i used to pull down 40-60mbps in the metro atlanta area on my old LTE skyrocket but on my note 2, i've been averaging 15-20mbps. other cities i've traveled to, i was seeing 30+.
i got the skyrocket right at launch and it was samsung's first at&t LTE phone so i'm guessing that the network's bandwidth was hardly being used but with the iphone 5, gs3, and note 1 & 2, there's a lot more congestion which is driving the speeds way down.
I recently had about 45 down and 25 up around Detroit since there's like no one there haha

I had this problem when I first got my NoteII. I was coming from a NON LTE device so when I switched the phone they didn't put me on a LTE plan. If you are in a good area where they have LTE give AT&T a call and make sure you are on a LTE plan. Also if you are on a custom ROM you may have the wrong APN settings.
On LTE I am getting 55 down 35 up all times of day.

I was just in Philadelphia over the weekend and loved the speeds on ATT. I got 7 Mbps with a ping around 80. So good compared to here in Cali.
I'm in Orlando FL. At home about 1-3 down and .5 up, but at work (a few miles away) I get 3-4 solid and 1 up.
At home on a Sunday am I get solid 6 down and 1 up.
So I'm happy, my "unlimited" data lasts longer than if I had an LTE.
Ran XXLA2 then changed to UGLC1 and see really no diff.
I did get Getril Premium and matched up my RIL but no diff then either.
My reception with this phone sucks in my house but at work it's stellar.
Of course at work I can see the tower from my office window .
APN: I use standard default from the first time I put in the ATT sim from my Atrix.

I was thinking of getting another phone soon to replace my crappy Sensation and from my brief research, the GS3 may or may not have it in the hardware to support T-Mobile's upcoming LTE network. With the One X+ cancelled, am I only left with the GNote 2? I'm really not trying to carry that big of a phone around . Will there be any announcements by T-Mobile in the upcoming months to release phones for the holiday season? I'm keeping my fingers crossed . Thanks in advance for any insight or details.
The T-Mobile S3 will NOT connect to their future LTE network. The Note 2 probably won't either. Their LTE network is even close to ready to begin rolling out.

The note 2 is the closest one to get lte it pass by fcc by 1900aws and 700(Verizon band), they were rumors of tmobile making arrangements with Verizon so we probably get it then (if you have a supported device) having said that I don't worry I get up to 24 mbps on tmobile and love it, I use 20GB last month with unlimited so ain't going anywhere for a while

I couldn't agree more. I've seen very impressive speeds from 4G on SGS3... While I'm sure getting 30-60 mbps down (seems average on other LTE networks) is really cool, its more of a signature spec - or bragging spec... 10mbps+ on 4G is plenty fast for me, especially considering I've been using an iPhone on T-mobile for years stuck on 2G EDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Verizon's LTE, I pulled on average 15-25mbps. It peaked out at about 30. On T-Mobile's Faux-G, I pull on average 10-20 mbps. I peak out at about 25.
LTE is not noticeably better in any way other than speed tests. Latency had been about 100ms for both as well. Primary difference had been LTE outages on Verizon seemed to last 12-72 hours whereas HSPA+ outages on T-Mobile seem to last 30-600 seconds.

30-60 is average? I've never seen anyone around here go faster than 22 mbps and in that context, my GS3 gets 15-16. The difference isn't very large at all.
First of all don't get T-mobile their HSPA+ Network gives me 0-0.50Mbs around all Brooklyn, even if signal is below -60dBm

Any way to prevent this from happening? Make a phone call before buying? Call tmob customer service?
By the way, since the Note 2 will be coming out by the end of this month or maybe early November, I think a lot of people will try to dump their GS3 to upgrade. Will craigslist prices lower? I'm seeing 300-350 on average right now.

I was assume it could be multiple things. Buildings in your area, interference, and the amount of ppl using T-Mobile in your area can all cause you to get less than expected speeds.

To contrast, this is on my wifi at home. For shame, Cox.
Ok so I thought I'd contribute a bit and start a topic regarding what people thought of AT&T's LTE network.
I got an iPhone 5 the day they came out and was getting some amazing speeds. Like 15 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up. But within a few weeks of having my phone I started noticing dramatic drops. I live on Los Angeles and in the city I now get 2-3 down and less than 1 up. So what I would do with my iPhone was turn off LTE and too my surprise the 4g network was doing leaps and bounds better. About 6-8 down but still less than 1 up.
Now I have my new galaxy note 2 and still don't have the best of LTE but 4g is still giving me the high downloads I was seeing on my iPhone 5. So for the most part I keep my LTE shut off on my phone though turning it on and off isn't as easy to do on android as it was on my iPhone. Unless anyone knows a toggle I can add some how?
Anyways just thought I'd start this little discussion to see what everyone else thought about their LTE in their area. Personally I think it's a joke how expensive AT&T is and how poor quality their bandwidth is. If it's gonna be expensive it ought to work great. But I guess that's just how things go with all carriers. Well love to read your guys' thoughts.

I usually get 10-15 mbps in Tulsa Ok. I have seen 50+ a couple times. Unfortunately I don't get LTE anywhere I go on a daily basis. I can get it by going 2 blocks south of my house, but my daily commute takes me north away from any coverage. That is pretty impressive. where are you located?
I don't know why, but with my S4 and Note 3 HSPA (4G) I get 27 down and 9 up on average, but on LTE I only get 13 down and 12 up. HSPA seems to be a little faster here in Tampa, Florida than LTE. T-Mobile's HSPA is capable of 42 MBPS and so are the phones. So i keep my phone set at hspa instead of LTE. I also get 4 to 5 bars of signal on 4G and only 1 or 2 on LTE which might explain the speed difference
Just did a test outside near a tower. I got 22 down and 11 up. Pretty decent.
