Hello, I am just wondering if there's a way to make free calls with your given number. I have looked in the app store but they all require another number or the other party having the same app.

I've heard the Vonage app allows you to use your own number to make calls for free, haven't tried it though.

Yes, they do have a free version in the market that allows over wifi only. The paid version allows you to use over 3g/4g. I haven't tried it over 3g/4g yet but wifi works great.
I got it free on Amazon a few moons ago. The early versions were pretty meh, but the last updates work great over 3/4G and WIFI.
Perfect app.

if you want to get incoming calls to you google voice number via the groove ip app you in your google voice settings you have to set for calls to forward to ONLY google chat
I can only find the pay visual voicemail app. Sprint had an app where the voicemail would be sent to your phone and you could listen to the sound file without calling your voicemail. Does AT&T not have anything like that?
Before anyone says it, I don't want to use Google Voice since I want that to be a separate phone number.

Try Visual Voicemail Plus. It even works with aosp.aokp, cm9, cm10, etc.
I ise att's visual voicemail app...not the att messages app. Do a search for it here on xda. Make sure you are provisioned for visual voicemail.
That's the link I posted.

Doh!!!!
I have used this AT&T Visual Voicemail App since the Original Note.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.att.mobile.android.vvm
Before opening it for the first time you need to call Customer Service and have them completely reset your voicemail.
Once they reset your voicemail open your AT&T VVM App and go through the steps.
It works for me every time.
Good luck
Sorry guys. When I said free, I meant completely free. No app cost, no monthly cost (don't want to pay for visual voicemail).
To those that suggested Google Voice, did you even read my original post? I want to keep my Google number separate from my regular number. Am I missing something here as to why people suggested it despite my OP?
Anyway like I was saying, Sprint provided a free voicemail app that would allow you to listen to your voicemails without calling it up. It would send the voicemail to the app whenever you got one.

You don't need to use your Google Voice number to have use google voice vvm. I've been using google voice vvm like this for 2 years now like this.

I got the same error. If you just change your voicemail number to your GV number it will work. Also go to google voice on the web and follow the instructions to deactivate and reactivate your phone.

Hey guys I was wondering what apps you use for Google Voice integration on your E4GT?
Last night I was bored and since my E4GT isn't activated on Sprint and I have a dumb Verizon phone I wanted to make calls with my E4GT.
I downloaded Groove IP Lite which seems to integrate Google Voice very well. I was able to call my Verizon number without any trouble.
Then I downloaded the Vonage Mobile app and during setup I used my Verizon number and it appears I am using that number to make free outgoing calls to US numbers. I don't receive many calls so I don't know if I'll receive them with the app. The sound quality is great since I'm using my Wi-Fi at home.

Groove IP is great.
Here is a app that intergrates GV SMS into the stock/go sms app's. There is a trial version available.

Attached is the Sprint Visual Voicemail application, just download it like normal and it should work perfect. This is for AOSP ROM's that don't come with a built-in Voicemail application. I know some people use Google Voice but this is for people who don't use Google Voice.
To get rid of the text messages alerting you of a voicemail (9016) then follow these instructions:
1. Download Mr. Number from the Play Store, Here.
2. Block "9016" from text messages.
3. No more annoying texts!
Enjoy!
Updated with Latest Sprint Visual Voicemail, as of 11/3/2013

The voicemail app puts me in gmail when I hit send or else it pops the onscreen keyboard and will not actually "send" the message.

It should just work. It just sounds odd. Did you go into apps and clear cache and data for voicemail app? Go into recovery and wipe cache/dalvik cache and fix permissions?

I use google voice. It works exactly the same as on my phone. I would recommend using Vonage (free) for voice over data instead of grooveip or talkatone. The quality seems much better, and you can use it even if you have an obi device installed at home as a free house phone. But I have not used Vonage on my tablet, only on my phone.

Hey, "Kisrita" you are right that Vonage provides much better services than any other. I use it in my tablet as well as phone.
I assume you have to be a vonnage customer to use this app, or can anyone use it?
thanks

I'm not a Vonage customer and I'm using it. They give something like 3500 minutes to use for free, and my calls are received showing my Google voice number. I don't know if there are some other perks for Vonage customers. I make very few calls so I haven't really looked into it further.
