It was rootable since day one. It's just that it was not publicized because we were afraid they would patch it when they released JB for North America.
I had the f180k version rooted before I made a system dump...
Now hopefully it doesn't get patched.

Also, since you knew the way to root, do you have a DZExtract modification (Or any other app) which can unpack the F180K .dz file?

no,i don't have that tool.someone told me,if we can extract .dz file,the phone's rooting method will be easy.but he doesn't have that tool after all,actually,no one has that tool,because it never exist.
That korean guy wrote the problem is DZextract cant recognize header of F180 .dz, but the container format is still same.
So, i think they probably already assembled a modded DZExtract.

Unfortunately not. I was helped by the devs on IRC on how to root. But I reverted back because network would not work on my E971.

This should be the easiest way to root the i9500 (yes, the so called 8-core one) by now.
Tested on FW I9500ZCUAMDG and should be working on others.
Recovery Feature:
1. Based on CWM 6.0.3.1 (Thanks CM Team!)
2. ROOT your phone
Just download the recovery and unzip it, flash the cofface_I9500_cwm_recovery_en_new.tar as PDA in Odin.
Then turn off the phone and enter recovery by pressing Vol Up+Home+Power keys, and select ROOT YOUR PHONE, reboot, DONE.
Download: Hotfile Dropbox
update: Some Russian FW users reported this will not work, i've inform the developer Cofface and will update later if he fixed this. And here is a way to root Russian FW.

About mine, i pushed CWM with odin, then did a reboot, clicked the "root" option, and did a reboot.That's it
BUT, my i9500 has the russian firmware, wich is : Russia - 2013 April - 4.2.2 - I9500XXUAMDK - I9500SERAMDK

Yeah just did the process..... Unable to get my root apps to work... i have a feeling it has to do with the firmware. Mine is also the russian fw.... Gotta flash the chinese one and then see..

Thanks Gseeker... I'm in China, and bought mine here too, but i flashed the russian firmware to get the european languages (the chinese firmware has got only chinese, english, and corean languages).
And unfortunately, i didn't get your CWM method working on it...

Currently the new update 'AOE2' is "in Queue" status at the bottom of the supported device list in the first post.

AFAIK, the only way to get OTA updates again is to flash a stock rom... Which I guess doesn't trip knox.
You'll have to root again of course after that if you want it.
OE2 is now in the PingPong Root list of supported devices! I just successfully rooted my SM-G920P OE2. How can you tell if Knox has not been tripped?

doesn't exist yet. don't use the lollipop one but I'm sure you already know that. I got around it by downgrading to 20J with a Koodo KDZ that I saved and rooting then using lollipop autorec, then flashing TWRP 3.0.0-0 via image flash in TWRP recovery.

well it is one big 2.2gb file. where you put it in Odin and does it do BL,CSC and stock rom?

Yep! In odin you flash it under AP. Then you flash TWRP in AP too. :good:

thank you very much. i read it...LOL. dumb today and frazzled. but this is just plain stock.
anyway the phone is not coming here till WED....replacing my G900A....finally. all the N910T's have unlocked BL's like the G900T, right? What would we do without people like you???
