ever since ive had my note 2 ive had screen protectors on it. they dont last long because they get scratched up easy and i hate buying them. my question is the gorilla glass that good where i dont need one? my phone is in my pocket a lot at work and i would hate to have a little scratch on it after paying so much money. give me your thoughts!
I think you answered your own question. It's still glass. It will get scratched. Screen protectors get scratched. Much cheaper to pull and replace than the glass itself.

If you like using a screen protector. Don't buy a cheap one. By a good quality one and you will not have to replace it.

You're right, it has gorilla glass 2
Anyways, I broke the screen on my first one about two weeks after I had it. (3 foot fall, screen down onto concrete.) not too many phones can survive that lol. Had to do an insurance replacement. $130 bucks ain't cheap.
Didn't have protection of any kind on it. I highly recommend getting an invisible shield hd. They work great, doesn't affect screen clarity and the s pen works great on it.

Gorilla Glass (1 or 2) isn't shatter proof. It's highly scratch-resistant due to being extremely hard. If anything, being so brittle, would make it more likely to shatter verses a less hard glass. IMO, of course.

I don't know if GG is shatter proof or not, but I dropped my S2 at least a dozen times, and some are horrible falls, like twice it fell from 1st floor to ground via all the stairs, and it didn't even scratched, forget about shattering. And now, Note 2 has an updated version of GG, at least the spec says that way, but it's much more less robust than S2. I've seen 10 topics at least already, that Note 2 screen is shattered from a 3 or 4 ft fall, which is bad and shouldn't have happened.

Your argument means nothing. Both the LG nexus 4 and optimus G were released in November 2012 same as the One X+ and Lumia920.
The official page for both on google's and LG's websites state they have gorilla glass, yet neither appear on the Corning list.

You say you rather trust that one website over some 3rd party website. Fair enough. But 16 different websites??

does this phone not have gorilla glass? Or is that just the international version? I dropped my phone last night out of my car but luckily the leather case it was in protected it from any damage.

That's why you need a soft case. It even saved my HD2 when I dropped from about 1 meter (and stepped on it!!!).
It got some scratches on the cam, but the screen saved.
Why not just call T-Mobile and have them send you a replacement?
I accidentally got candle wax on my screen which left a permanent mark that was rough to the touch. I tried everything to remove it, even a razor blade, but nothing worked. I don't have insurance either but I called T-Mobile and told them the story. After paying $120 they sent me a replacement. If you can go this route it will probably be cheaper and faster than going through Samsung. I was pretty pleased with the outcome through T-Mobile.

So I am terrified of scratching my screen so i went into the VZW store today and got their anti glare screen protector. I've never put one on, or used one, so they did it for me. They didn't do that bad of a job, there's some loose spots around the edges, but I was more disappointed by how the screen looks now. You can definitely see the protector, even more so during white or light colored backgrounds/apps.
This is fine for now, as at least im protected, but can anyone recommend one that doesn't do this? I'm not familiar with them as this is my first time.... but i want my screen to be beautiful again!
I don't think you need a screen protector. The screen isn't Gorilla Glass, but I'm sure it's right near it in quality.
There's a bunch of people who already scratched their screens...

Can someone move this, wrong forum
Verizon sells two types of screen protectors
1. Antiglare protector
2. Clear protector
I suspect that you got the antiglare protector from your store. The upside to this one is that it cuts glare, has a smoother slide but can affect visibility of on screen apps like you notice.
Go back and buy the clear protector as I have no issues with it. if you think you may have problems putting it on yourself, then you can always pay 2x the price for a single Zagg protector in your local mall.
Good luck
i also got the anti glare one from verizon but the grainy/static look is starting to bug me im thinking of just using the phone naked

The grainy-ness really cheapens the screen. I would suggest going and buying a better screen protector. That's what I'm doing. Not going naked for a few months.
I as well got the anti-glare screen protector at the Verizon store and I hate it, I can't admire the screen because it looks like crap with the screen protector on. I went to the Clear Coat screen protector stand at my local mall and they said they should have protectors for the Galaxy Nexus in about a week and I plan to just do that instead of living with this anti-glare crap.
I'm going to order a replacement one on Amazon tomorrow, any suggestions? I don't want one that has to be wet to apply. I don't want to even know its there...

So I'm debating on whether or not I should use a screen protector on my S3. With the new gorilla glass is it necessary?
What are all of you doing??
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I think it's personal preference I bought a screen protector and I am using mine. It depends how well you take care of your phone. Get a cheap one off of amazon or eBay and see if you like it
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
i take care of my phones so i will not be using a protector. I never have. I took my X2 to the extremes once i activated my s3 and it was difficult to actually scratch the screen.
hoping this holds up equally well. I did by a sleeve for the phone though.
At first I didn't plan on using one, but I did end up trying a wet apply protector and I'm liking it ok. The Gorilla glass seems pretty resilient, and there are videos on youtube of people taking keys, razors, knives etc to the screen with no scratches but the last thing you want is a scratched up display.
Come on guys, there has been threads about this

I have a My Touch 4G Slide. I hate the long name.
I have been using it for over a year now and it has a few very slight scratches. It has Gorilla Glass.
Now about the videos on YouTube: They all use metal that is not so sharp. I would like to see how the glass stands up to a single grain of sand, dirt or rock fragment.
I'm a mechanic and work in a rough environment. I get dirt and grease on it all the time but I don't purposely scratch it.
My 4G was a replacement for the G2 I had for almost a year before and did use a Zagg and it got dirty within a month and the free replacements for life cost $6 to ship them.
I'll have my S3 this week and don't plan to use a protector. I don't think that a screen protector can save it from a direct hit. Since the majority of the surface is non screen, I am considering a case to spread out the impact damage if I drop it, which is more likely to break the screen.
My opinion is non scientific and is from limited experience.
The Verizon guy installed one for me and its working fine. I wasn't gonna put one on but I do like it.

I have been hearing a lot of cases when our Galaxy SIII's screen has shattered when dropped that too not from a height. Then i heard of AMZER's shatter proof series and i pre-ordered it 3 days ago. Now my case protector has arrived and it is the toughest screen protector i have ever used. I was so lucky that i bought it on time. It was dropped by a kid with face on and nothing happened. This one is really tough guys.

It's definitely scratch proof, but shatter proof?
Yes I agree with the OP - knocked my sgs3 off and it hit the corner of the table and then floor - screen first - i have cracked by display on the sensation in a similar situation - this time not even a scratch and this thing sticks right on! Asking to those who had a scratch on the screen and didn't wanna pay 200 odd bucks to replace the LCD and Digitizer, have you bought any of those third party front outer glass available on eBay for around 20 bucks? If you have done it, does the S Pen work, or is the glass Gorilla or just standard one?
I have a scratch on mine, very tiny, but it's in the middle of the phone, that's why it's irritating me, but I will no way spend 1/3 of the phone's price to replace the LCD and Digitizer especially when I believe the LCD is not scratched as it is not deep.
Thanks in advance.
I would live with it if I were you. It is highly likely that no matter how skilled, you will end up with some imperfection that will be just as bad as the scratch. You will also void your warranty. For a small scratch it isn't worth the money or time when you can't be guaranteed of a perfect result. Also consider that the cheap eBay screens are usually not genuine and probably not even gorilla glass so will scratch up more easily leaving you worse off than you are now.

I wouldn't suggest changing the glass for a scratch. Alternatively, you could just get a glass screen protector that covers the entire front glass; it will hide the scratch, and its glass!
However, if you do still decide to go along with changing the screen then check the link below on my signature.

Hmm! I would not do it by myself. Was thinking about a professional.
And I highly doubt the front glass is Gorilla.

Yeah, thanks. I have heard that some screen protectors do make some tiny scratches invisible, maybe it's right, protectors like Martinfield or something, don't remember the name exactly. You have any advice, brands with a link would be appreciated.
And thanks for the link on your siggy.
PS: Didn't notice that you mentioned Glass protectors! Well won't that make the screen less responsive or something? Will the S Pen work as it does normally? Honestly I don't have any idea or even heard of Glass protectors for Note 2.

I'm sorry your links prove what?
It has been widely debated. The note 2 has gorilla glass 2 as my link PROVES. You think you know so much and ask noob questions about changing a screen! :banghead:

Mate Wiki isn't "proof" for anything. It's the last reliable source if anything.
I think it probably has GG to be honest, because otherwise I'm not sure how it even passes the moderate scratch tests - if it's plain glass surely it should immediately scratch? And even S3's with Gorilla glass could scratch like crazy if a grain of sand gets in there.

My links say that Note 2 does NOT have Gorilla Glass. Say, not prove. You might be a Samsung fanboy, but I am not. Why sites like GSMArena, Phonearena, Corning doesn't mention that it has GG? They don't have any personal problem with Note 2, so?
And what's that 'so much knowing thing', are you a kid or what?

Samsung and corning already said early on they wouldn't confirm as they were under some sort of NDA agreement
Only a fool would believe a flagship device like the note 2 doesn't use "gorilla glass" or some other aluminosilicate equivalent.
Samsung fanboy? LOL I will pit my line up of devices over yours anyday
Enjoy your scratched up non aluminosilicate screen

Okay, so what about those sites? They have some agreements too?
And yes, I am fool, but I believe what I see, unlike you, who depends on flagship device and those craps.

One the attack eh? Was your knowledge challenged?
Are you the type of person who always has to be correct? If you wanted to be 100% correct in your post I suggest you read up in writing etiquette or even behavioural science . Was a little harsh and very defensive.
This thread is going south.
Needless to mention, in the absence of any type of confirmation from Corning, you are more than likely right with your assumptions.
Hope you have a great day.

Sigh.....xda is getting worse & worse. You're attitude sucks. Whether he is wrong or right, you need to show a little more respect....being correct, doesn't entitle you to be rude. I haven't looked at your profile, but your behaviour shows a level of immaturity that isn't helpful here.
Edit....which is a shame, because your first post was a good one.
