But...that IS where to start. I don't think a clearer guide exists or could be written...
ok a few thing i might want to clear the model i9250 what its genric name or mean whats its type is it yakuju or jord something like that.....and installing the driver and downloading the firmware from google site what i do next mean connecting the phone whats the app by which i flash through and how to files in the zip i download
In a nutshell (this is assuming you have working adb/fastboot drivers set in your system PATH and that the bootloader is already unlocked):
1. Download the 4.2.1 factory image from Google - https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/yakju-jop40d-factory-279cdc5d.tgz
2. Extract the resulting file using 7-Zip to your Desktop
3. Open a command prompt window in the folder where the IMG files from that TGZ are
4. Connect your phone in fastboot mode
5. Run flash-all.bat
Once finished you'll be on 100% stock 4.2.1

1) i gave you step by step instructions.
2) you're a rom dev, if you cant figure out those instructions you need to stop doing rom dev stuff.
3) read and follow the guide. it takes at most 30min to do and thats if you have to setup everything and dont know a thing about fastboot. it should take you 5min so your "i'm in med school and dont have time" excuse will be pathetic.

I have added a batch file to automatically fastboot flash this under windows and restore your phone to stock.
turn the device on with both volume buttons held and enter fastboot mode. connect usb and execute flash-windows.bat (included) you may need to install samsung adb driver and boot unlock the device though (which you can find on this forum)
tested on my galaxy nexus and restored successfully.

Thanks OP worked great!
Why would you upload mirrors when Google themselves are hosting the files? Wouldn't it be more reliable to just download straight from Google?
Also, I'm assuming that they'll be updating the recovery images for each official update as well... Meaning your mirrors would be outdated soon anyway. Just a thought.
Thanks anyway though, these will come in useful!
Google's package is compressed in tgz and comes with sh script, also doesnt include fastboot windows.
I put all necessary utils together with a bat script so user can just double click and restore.

Guys, a little OT question, but I don't want to open a new thread just for a noobish question:
How could one actually brick the GNex? Is it possible to brick the GNex so serious that it won't even get recognized by fastboot?
If not, it's literally unbrickable. If yes, what would I need to do to brick my phone like that? Just wann know so I can NOT do it
will OTA updates works if i flash this image (assuming i've also cloclwork mod recovery)?

You could do what my idiot brother did to my Nexus S. Format /boot from Clockwork mod (under the storage options I believe) and then turn the phone off. The only way to unbrick it is to send it to Samsung, or the guy on XDA who runs that company that uses JTAG to fix it (which is what I did)

Why would that brick the device? Can't you still get into the bootloader or recovery and flash a new boot image?

Hey guys ,
This is my first post and I was directed here as the experts will be around . I need your help guys to upgrade my phone Galaxy nexus . I have never did any thing on it . It has the following information that might help you guys to help me
Android version 4.0.4
Kernel version 3.0.8-gda6252b
build number imm76k.i9250jple1
I saw some phones that are rooted and have this wonderful images of Roms . I need to try them but I don't know how
I have downloaded the toolkit program but I dont know what ROM shall I select ?? which one is the best ?
Please guys , teach me how and let me start his journey with you
waiting your heeeeeeelp
start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812959
recs for a n00b
Since you've never rooted or used a custom ROM before I suggest starting with either mROM or MMuzzy's ROMs. They are close to stock but will get you to Android version 4.2.1
mROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763823
MMuzzy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762846
Remember to MAKE A NANDROID. After you use the toolkit to unlock, root, etc. boot into recovery and MAKE A BACKUP. Also, when you root/unlock it factory resets your phone, so anything not on the SD card that you want to keep, backup to your computer.
This is the thread which completely helped when I was new to rooting and all this stuff. No further help was needed. The methods are very well explained here.

Try to root with the exploit in the link above. Otherwise try the original rooting method below.
In the "AT&T Galaxy Note II Android Development" sub-forum, this [REF] thread is at or near the top...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987541
In the thread pasted above are instructions to root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980644
You can also view the video tutorial (link is next the the 'Forums') by clicking the 'Root Info' link (next to the 'Forums' link toward the keft on the XDA 'AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II' forum page) which visually shows the procedure in the link above.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1870#tutorial
Once Recovery and Superuser app are installed (through Chainfire's or other dev) rooting method, you can reboot into Recovery....backup your current ROM...wipe cache...wipe Dalvik...factory reset...then flash the ROM of your choice.
Look at the ref threads (if any) at the top of each sub-forum. Since the rooting instructions are in the Dev section, I can see how this could be confusing for newbies (not a ref in the Q&A or General section). As other members have stated, search is your friend. Yes, there is a lot of info to read on and that may come up in searches (will probably take you a few days). You have to take the time to read up on all these aspects of rooting (rooting, ROM, recovery, kernel, etc). or expect to be flamed hard on this site.
Made it way to easy man......

1. Questions go in Q&A
2. Can you not restore the backup you made before rooting his phone?
Download Rom to your fastboot folder on computer.
Go to recovery and sideload the Rom. It should upload and then automatically flash for you.

Follow instructions well enough to post in the wrong section
Anyway, you can always use the sideload function. Download a ROM zip, place it in the same folder as your fastboot/adb programs and then select sideload within your recovery and follow the instructions. If you need more detailed instructions just google how to sideload with TWRP/CWM (whichever one is installed on your phone).

What rom??
OK, a few things needed...
1. Can you connect the phone when in fastboot mode and then use the following command:
fastboot oem readcid
and post the result? I wanna know so I can get the right back up for you
2. Which custom recovery is on the phone at present?

Pick one! If you want Sense go with Android Revolution, Viper, InsertCoin, Hyperdrive - they're all in the Android Development Section.

METHOD-1
If you want to be as close to stock rom you should download ARHD it is the best rom I have ever seen.If you are a total NOOB then simplest way is copy your desired rom(ARHD,IC,SD,Viper etc) to your ext-sd(if you have one or if you have an otg you may use it)then inside TWRP navigate to ext-sd then flash it!.
METHOD-2
You can do it via sideload-instructions are http://teamw.in/ADBSideload here.
Note: I would suggest to give the output of the following command before so that you dont mess with the device.fastboot getvar all then we might be able to help you out

METHOD-3
Also there is another best way you dont have to think much is Flash Stock Rom And then ruu.
You can follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235.
Note:Method 3 is a risky method especially for a noob the best way is method 2.Also if you want to try method 3 I would suggest to give the output of the following command before so that you dont mess with the device.fastboot getvar all then we might be able to help you out

My guide won't work as it's a branded phone. Easier to just flash a custom ROM or restore a stock backup but I'm waiting on the OP to post the CID to get the right backup for them
