Replacement Help - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok, I recently cracked my screen and through 5 att reps and some choice words I was able to get a replacement phone free of charge. My problem is that my current phone is rooted with the serenity rom installed and my backup isn't found on the phone, even though I did back it up. Does anyone know where I can get the original ics rom to flash back on my phone?

You have a few options. You can find the stock ROM here: http://samsung-updates.com/
and you can flash it with Odin. This will get rid of your custom recovery too.
Or you can download http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP
which is a nifty program that Samsung put together. Go to Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation and follow the instructions.
That will find the latest stock ROM for your phone (using the Model and S/N you provide) and flash it for you. This is the same
as using Odin but it can be easier.

Ok thanks dude!

[KERNEL][SGH-T989D] Telus Samsung Galaxy S II Stock Kernel // TLKJ3

Telus Samsung Galaxy S II Stock Kernel // TLKJ3 // SGH-T989D
Please note this is for the Telus SGH-T989D not the SGH-T989 T-Mobile variant.
Explanation
What we have here is a stock boot.img pulled from a rooted Telus SGH-T989D (Samsung Galaxy S II).
With this you can recover your phone using ODIN, in the case of a brick or just to return to a factory state.
Initramfs for Developers
I have extracted the boot.img and posted it up for all developers on my github.
Code:
https://github.com/bubby323/stock-initramfs-TLKJ3-galaxysII-telus
Downloads
Also to restore you're phone I have a nice little tar file that will take care of the job for you that you can grab from here.
How to Flash
We are going to be using Odin in this explanation to flash the stock kernel to your phone.
Downloads
First you are going to want to start by downloading all the needed files onto your computer and then place them onto your Desktop.
Samsung Kies
Odin3-v1.85.zip
SGH-T989D-Stock-TLKJ3-Kernel.tar
Process
Once you have everything downloaded and on your desktop, you are going to want to first install kies.
After this is done you should restart your computer for proper driver installation.
Next, extract Odin to a new folder on your Desktop. Leave the tar in the form it is.
Now, open up Odin by double clicking the .exe in the folder you extracted it to.
The most important step is now, you need to put your device into Download/ODIN mode so your computer will recognize it and be able to flash to it. To do this simply turn your phone off completely (or pull the battery). Then you are going to want to use the following button combination to force your device into download mode:
Hold the volume up/down and power button all at the same time.
Click to collapse
Now ODIN should have recognized your device ( it may take a while for the drivers to complete installation so don't panic the first time).
Lastly, we want to click on the PDA button and then search for the SGH-T989D-Stock-TLKJ3-Kernel.tar we download earlier and placed on the Desktop.
If all of the above has taken place you are free to hit the Start button.
Done!
If all has gone well at this point the flash should be proven successful and your phone should reboot like normal.
If so, please feel pressured to give yourself a pat on the back, that was tough!
Is this a new kernel?

thanks guys
Much appreciated guys. Any chance of a stock ROM in case someone ever needs to ship back to Telus?
If somebody wants to test the rom once I upload it then I will release it for everybody. Ill also work on the device report and build you your own Clockwork.

Great work Bubby.... maybe we'll have something to flash later??... Cheers!
Nice, I wonder if theres any differences from our Tmobile stock rom.

isnt the hardware the same?
i wonder if we can flash telus rom onto tmobile t989..
warning: dont try this if you cant afford a brick!
I flashed the tar file on my tmobile phone. Only thing it did was change my boot animation from tmobile to telus.

its fairly easy. just use odin to flash a rooted kernel and super user, or use it to flash recovery and flash a custom rom.
Does anyone here have the stock modem? Or maybe someone can guide me on how to extract it from the phone?

Oh and btw is there a way of making this kernel rooted. That would be amazing so then we keep everything stock but rooted.

One more thing would this kernel have cwm recovery built in? I know the tmo has it but again it would be great if this stock kernel would be completed with recovery. Sorry for the many questions I was a very heavy user of bell sgs2 I gotta get used to Hercules now

Just one question

Hello there I have a rooted and a soft moded build.prop galaxy note 2 with the Xposed framework added to it. And I was just wondering that now that my phone has a updated to 4.2.2 that you can get throw kias can I flash back to the stock Rom and get the update or do I have to wait for a Rom to be made with it.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
Well you have a att model it is going to take a very very very very long time before you see an update. Just wait for a rom here it will be so much better and sooner than anything att will give you.

Go to
http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/main/supportMain.do
To get your i317m model's Samsung Kies software
You can check for updates through that.
Make sure you back up everything before updating.
Hit the THANKS if I helped

I have the kias but I just want to know if I can just plug in my phone and hit up date or do I have to flash back to a stock Rom and the update and we'll that even work
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
No you can't just update through kies.
You have to be on one of the stock ROMs supported by Samsung first for kies to recognize a starting point. And it is possible to get into a reboot loop coming from a custom ROM. After you flash the stock ROM using Odin After your phone reboots, pull the battery, put it back in, go to recovery and reset/factory reset/clear cache & data so your stock ROM starts out clean.
This will eliminate the boot loop possibility.
And frankly since you're going to have to do a stock ROM flash why not just get the newest release you are aiming for and just flash it with Odin that way you don't have to deal with kies !
This is your newest Bell release it is Android 4.1.2 so if you have a thing for 4.2.2 Samsung hasn't released it.

Just remember to back up before you start messing with flashing back to stock.

You can use kies to update from other rom too.
Open kies - tools - firmware upgrade and initialization
You need your Sr number to proceed, you can find in setting - about device or from back side of device under battery.

[Q] Upgrading a rooted M919UVUAMDB

I'm rooted with a custom recovery running M919UVUAMDB.
So if i get it right. Only way to upgrade is to
Odin to stock.
Upgrade and break root.
Root with upgrade.
Re Flash upgraded stock.
Pretty much. Or you can use Skies to do recovery to the lastest firmware, then root again.

Been searching for last hour or two and this is only thread I've found this specific topic. Just got S4 today coming from a GNex so somethings are new to me.
Is there a detailed instructions somewhere on how to do this?
I'm also rooted on M919UVUAMDB and trying to figure out the best way to upgrade to MDL so that I can re-root again.
Install Kies. Under Tools setting, select recovery and put your phone to download mode. Let Kies do the rest.

Thanks for clarifying. Just to double check, would cwm recovery affect the kies firmware recovery process?
No. Kies would wipe it off during recovery process and install the latest firmware.

lol I've searched around too, but made my own conclusions. ahha
Not attempting to promote any particular roms but Wicked v2 is running mdl update with the mdb modem and radio and smoother than silk on s4, Revolt requires manualy updating with setuidremoval but has a great writeup how to do so as does Infamous S4, I personally can confirm Revolt and Wicked are working flawless as long as the minimal theming currently in both is fine with you.

Odin can't complete flash!

Hi everyone. I have a GT-I9300 Int'l version. The phone had worked previously with a custom rom, however' the previous owner tried to update through kies and now the phone is showing an error and asking to recover with kies. I tried that, and it fails. Also, i downloaded the stock rom for it from sammobile and the flash fails after about 2/3 of the way through.
How do i fix this?
I appreciate any and all help !
Do give you a heads up you are in the non international version of the sgs 3 forum. You need to go the international forum for the s3 for help. Using our methods can damage your phone.

[Q] Rogers note 2

I just got a Rogers note 2. I'm a little lost on how to install a custom rom/recovery on this device. I only have experience with the nexus 4 and htc one x,s and evo 3D. So i know the basic adb commands and such and have fastboot set up. Basically as an end result I want a custom rom, kernel and a working recovery. I was also wondering if a custom rom such as cm10 supports the s-pen? and can I flash a at&t rom on my Canadian phone?

Model: SGH-I317M
Android: 4.3

S Pen: you can get some spen feature with AOSP roms but most of em will not be like a touchwiz rom.
Yes you can use att rom on your note but you might need to manually input your APN. This is no big deal.

You can do it both way. If you have a costum recovery installed you can flash the zip file provided in the thread. If not you can flash it with Odin.

You first need to root, I think there are two ways of doing it, I usually do it with odin and cf-autoroot. I'm not familiar with other ways.
Then you can install recovery trough odin OR using goo manager from playstore and press menu, install open recovey script
Once you have done all this, you will be ready to install a new rom.
Take a look at the cf-autoroot thread and the twrp thread in the development section.
Read a lot before attempting stuff, you need to prepare yourself and understabd how it works or your risk ending up with an expensive paperweight.

OK sounds good. I just thought some firmware you couldn't root. Am I good to install kernels like that too? Most phones I have owned need an unlocked boot loader to flash kernels. Are Samsung phone pre unlocked.
