Has anyone found a way to enable wifi tethering with a rooted stock JOP40D yet?
Oh no, three angels have fallen from grace as a result of your mis-leading title and posting in the wrong section.
Now for the goods I was gonna do the hack for that but I won't have time, its simple to do all you need its apktools and the knowledge of how to use it and you're good to go.
1. use apktool to de-compile framework-res.apk
2. navigate to res/values/arrays.xml
3. open arrays.xml in a notepad editor
4. edit the line "config_tether_upstream_types" change the 4 to a 5
5. save changes and re-compile framework-res.apk
from there you will be able to tether

wrong thread? I am talking about a Sprint, Galaxy Nexus running JOP40D stock and rooted and the wifi tethering functionality, this requires some dev work (see post above yours). so maybe I should have been more descriptive in my title or even my post I guess I assumed since I posted it in here it would be obvious sorry to anyone who may have been confused or mislead, if a mod wants to move it no worries :good:
Anyways... I will try the decompile/recompile steps and see if that works, I just didnt want to re-invent the wheel if someone already had done it
thanks!

Thanks this worked perfectly! For anyone choosing to do this things to note:
1. It will wipe your google account so you will have to re-login and setup the gapps
2. the framework-res.apk size will not be the same (in my case it was either a full MB larger if I unzip/reziped it with my changes or 4 MB smaller if I just dropped my new resources.arsc into the original apk.. very big size difference but everything still boots up and works *shrug*

tethering zip for 4.2.1 sprint update
This worked for me so give it a try. I have no idea if this will work for anyone else so please dont blame me if it messes up your phone. This is for the stock sprint release 4.2.1 - framework-res.apk update to include unlocked tethering.

hedrickms, first of all, thank you very much for doing this and posting it for the rest of us.
Would it be possible to post a "back to stock/restore to Sprint configuration" flashable .zip, just in case? (It's always nice to have that available in case I need my phone to appear to be truly unrooted and stock.)
-- Andrew
OK not sure if this works but here is a flashable .zip to return tethering to Stock (Locked) state. I did not flash this to see if it works so if you have issues please let me know and I will see what went wrong. The "tethering_4.2.1_Return_Stock.zip" is for Sprint Android 4.2.1 only and will not work with 4.1.1 or 4.1.2.

So does this mean the SystemUI in this version is able to decompile without errors? If so how exactly did you do this?
Thanks.

I used smali and allowed each APK to reference all of the .odex files in the framework, added the classes.dex files to their respective APKs, and zipaligned. I don't know if it matters, but I did those steps through the command line, although I'm sure the process would be a lot faster with a script. If you would like the exact line-by-line process that I used, let me know.
So how is this Rom & all I have to do is download & flash it or is there another step to do?

The procedures are the same as for other ZIP-based ROMs: download, transfer to phone, and flash through recovery. You may or may not need to erase your data (depending on which ROM you're coming from), but backing up your data beforehand is advisable and never hurts.
I haven't received any feedback regarding this specific ROM yet (I don't know if that's a good or bad sign). The main difference is that it's deodexed and will decompile without errors. I'm sure there are other threads with more in-depth information on IMM26 changes/improvements/issues.
SuperUser
I was impressed with this rom for the first few minutes I used it. But then I found out that my SuperUser app wasn't working. I tried updating the binaries through the app itself but it couldn't gain root access. I downloaded the file again and flashed it again but SuperUser still didn't work. It was the same problem with not gaining root access. So I flash the SuperUser zip file from zedomax's tutorial on rooting the Nexus S 4G and I was able to gain root access. Just thought I'd tell you.
mvilla, how did you fix the superuser root access problem? i am having the same problem when i try to update binary, and im getting permission error when i try to flash recovery in rom manager, i think is because of superuser not working.
I went to nexusshacks.com and downloaded the nexussrootICS.zip file (I think that's what its called). There's a SuperUser.zip file within that zip file. I moved the file to my phone and flashed it in recovery (wipe cache and dalvik cache of course). And its working well.

Hey buddy, I'd LOVE to have the step-by-step, or line-by-line on the process you used to decompile. If you could PM me, or post it up here for everyone to use, that would be great!! I'm kinda new to the decompiling and compiling scene so any help would be great! Also, you said that most devs that use ICS probably use a kitchen to decompile and compile their .jar and .apk files, where is this kitchen? Or are you talking about Android SDK?

Did you ever get that step-by-step process for deodexing ICS from the OP? If so, can you send it to me?
I guess the Google Apps are included?
Will there be any further updates to this in the near future, or has this reached the end of the line so-to-speak? Just curious because I like having the natural AOSP of this.
Been using this since the 9th and I have to say it's very smooth. Very stock too, which obviously is what it's supposed to be. Just saying that for anyone who comes in looking for something customized. This is basically pure vanilla ICS.
Sorry for the delayed replies. I've been hammered by other obligations lately.

The stock Google apps are included. There are now two choices: One has the apps that were included in the IMM26 release (R3) and I have also included the latest app updates and related binary files as (R4).

I have replaced the Google apps that have been updated since the IMM26 release. There are rumblings that the official ICS ROM should be released sometime soon. I'm not holding my breath, but I'll offer the same thing to that release once it comes out.
If you're asking about adding functionality or features, I don't think I'd have anything unique to offer since there are so many other ROMs and customizable updates out already. I have considered including FaceLock functionality, but it adds quite a bit of size to the ROM and honestly, it hasn't worked very well for me. If there is enough interest, I'll include it as a separate revision in the future.

Can someone please share this for me? I am using the i9300 and having wifi calling will be a real improvement for me. I've tried searching, all I get so far is that the apk works only on touchwiz (which is what I have), but nobody's put up a link to this mythical thing
It only works for Tmobile, if you're using international S3 it won't work.
It's not just a apk, it's in the framework too.

I am on an Omega Jelly Bean ROM on t-mobile, with the i9300 variant. Don't I check all the right boxes? I thought the framework that it needed was part of touchwiz?
its way way more complicated then what you think it is.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
The pack has to be built for touchwiz because of the libs used to make it work.
You need the wifi calling provisioning or it won't route the UMA traffic over the right T-Mobile gateway.
Files:
system/app/com.android.kineto.apk
system/lib/libganril.so
system/lib/lib_ril_switch.so <--- may be custom modded for vendor (ie: Samsung, HTC etc)
system/lib/libkineto.so
system/lib/libreference-ril.so
system/lib/librilswitch.so
There may or may not be other files but you can see it's not just an APK.

Thank you, that's a great start! When I get back home today, I'll take a stab at extracting these from a T999 update and try it out. If it works, I'll see how complicated creating an update.zip is and package it.

That is a start but im afraid that's about all it is. You'd also need wificall.apk (com.movial.wifiicall) and probably some binary files.
Also, even if you managed to get all the correct files, you would then need to port the code over to settings so you can use it. There is also probably code in systemui, framework, etc. I just doubt that simply flashing the files to your phone will work...unless the i9300 version of tw has it already and you just need it to work for tmobile. I dont think itll be a quick or easy thing to do.

If the OP follows your instructions, he will have a brick.
Until the bootloader is unlocked. Attached is some mods to improve upon Jellybean.
Also, I urge people to bring any modifications(or test yourself) some of the mods in the Nexus 4 section that I can hopefully start transposing onto the LG Optimus Jellybean. I suggest if you're unsure if a mod will work. Ask me first, it's better to ask than brick your phone.
I'll make flashable zips and incorporate into lifeless eventually.
thermald-8064.conf
- Download file (this is NOT flashable)
- Extract the file
- Replace the extracted file with the same file in System/etc (Using Root Explorer or similiar)
- This improves the overheating issue based on the modified stock thermaconfig from ICS
Camera-Mod by _EPIC
- Same exact directions as above
- Excep replace the media_profiles with the media_profiles file attached.
More to come
Seems to be working thanks!

Wifi Teather Root
Hello,
Hope this is the right forum, just recently updated to jelly bean LS970ZVB from this forum. Was able to retain root access; however lost my ability to use Wifi Tether for Root Users. Evidently FreeGee hasn't came up with a way to unlock the bootloader just yet after the update. Is there a way with this update to utilize free WIFI wireless tethering. I've looked around everywhere, and nothing has seemed to work. I have all green check marks on the log within the application. Please help!!!!:confused.
Maybe Sqlite will work with forcing entitlement changes; however , cant find this either.

Adri, the bootloader is unlocked, but the boot image that freegee has is for ics and therefore won't boot. If you just flash the recovery and aboot, you are unlocked, but can't debloat since the security error is fixed with the custom boot image. We haven't figured out how to fix it on jb hence the delay.

This one sounded interesting. Wonder if there's a similar mod that would work for us:

It changes the synaptic driver out to increase touch screen responsiveness.
Nothing else really comes to mind though.

Lightly Tweaked Stock
Purpose of Rom
You may have noticed that this rom unlike others is essential all stock. I've done this for the people who want a clean rom to start their own development from or just like the complete stock experience without the hassle of Odin and rooting afterword.
Features
Based off UVMC6 (4.1.2)
Deodexed
Rooted with supersu
CM10 APN
Screenshots
UVMC6 Related Issues
If you don't use a radio based on a 4.1.2 rom you will get no signal bars and may experience frequent disconnects. If you're on a provider other then t-mobile like me you will be able to connect to your data network provider if cm10 supports it but you will need to disable wifi calling in the settings.
Flashing Instructions
Use Odin to get a custom recovery (Tested on TWRP 2.5)
Wipe System/Data/Cache/Davlik/Preload
Flash Rom
Reboot
Let sit for 10 minutes
Reboot agian
Enjoy!

Hi, I gave a sgh-t989d as well..do you have any problems charging to 100% using your rom? Right now I using Koragg618's stock rom and my phone is only changing to 97/98%.
Nice job on this. Guys be sure to expect a multi view ROM from team necessity. Will be based on this ROM
Looks pretty wife friendly lol thanks

Perhaps I am, what have you done here then development wise other than posting a rooted stock 4.1.2.? Seems like there are about 20 threads in this forum that already that cover this.

wifi tethering
if you want wifi thering on a stock rooted rom then try this. download wifi tether widget from play store and set up name and password. then go to system-apps and delete tetheringprovisions.apk. then create new apn. name it tether. then on apn line enter epc.tmobile.com or whatever is in the apn line for your provider. save it you dont have to set it as your apn. you should have wifi tethering now:good:

I've never had any problem's charging to 100% with UVMC6, did you try wiping your caches and/or data? You could try to charge to 100% in a recovery or when the phone is off and reboot that way, it's unlikely it's a hardware issue but if it is that would let you know.

Tetheringpervision.apk is hard coded into the framework-res.apk. For it to successfully work you would also need to decompile the framwork-res.apk and navigate to red/values/array and remove the part about tetheringpervision. Then recompile the apk and push it to system/framework. if you need help let me know.
Also the APNs need to be unlocked or you won't be able to change it. Last there is a hidden APN for tethering, if it isn't removed you will never be able to connect.

There's also a good guide for t-mobile touchwiz roms here , I'm going to upload a flashable zip with the mod incorporated in a few mins.
This is exactly what I was looking for.

But, I can't seem to find google play store after I boot, or reboot, what did I do wrong?
Never mind, I decided to go back to ICS via odin and wait for the official update from koodo.

Yes Jovy is one of my buddies. He and I trade modifications all the time. Anyways, like I said if you need a hand let me know... or you can just grab mine. That is fine with me as well.
Great!
Has anyone managed to get a hotspot workaround running for 4.3 yet?
I'm liking the ROM on now, but I really need hotspot and it doesn't seem to work on any of the posted stock 4.3 ROMs out of the box.

Thank you! I'll check around for that then. Much appreciated!
On Jovys rom I posted a link with modified framework and files that will allow tethering if you are using the MK2 modems.
Tether/hotspot only seems to work on 4.2 roms tried 4.3 and 4.4 none works or seems to have no support at least nobody answer to this kind of issue

That is good to know. I will migrate my way over there and look for that. Now all I have to do is get smart on how to modify framework.

They go under /system/csc folder
You should be able to just overwrite the two that are there.
I typically delete thme out and then write the new ones and change permissions.
Reboot and it will read the new files.
Thank u, using without a problem in Jovys23 4.3 stock rom

where's the link to those files?
does anyone have a link to those framework files for hotspot tethering with the mk2 baseband?
Framework Files
Hello Agelistus,
the files you can find them on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47983804&highlight=tether#post47983804
It will be Post #225
I didn't copy the direct URL as I don't own the link of files. Would be glad to post them here if TheArtiszan is ok with that or re-upload them to make them available in more than one spot.

Much obliged!!
Hey southsidexz, thanks a million!! xda is an entire universe of information and I would have truly burned the midnight oil looking for this to no avail. Gonna try it out now. So far that's my only issue with infamous 9, it seemed that wifi tethering worked natively on 8.0. Again, many many thanks!
Your welcome
Your welcome. Always glad to help people around.
On another note I was dumb enough to rename the framework to old before I replaced it so my Phone got killed..... However thanks to cabloomi and his Recovery Image to .tar.md5 odin flash, I was able to flash CWM latest recovery so it could read my MicroSD card and then flash the zip I created that flashed the framework file. (Thanks to ScatteredHell)
If in case someone else does it... and doesn't want to re-flash the rom or restore old backup.
You can flash Framework via recovery, following this thread instrucitons to get the framework apk into a flashable format for recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840098
If in case you have a recovery that won't read your external SD card (like I did) you can use this link to flash any recovery via ODIN.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281287
(Side Note: if you get errors, please see post #23 on the link above, it provides the solution if you get errors)
Note:I am not responsible for damaging or further damaging your phone, I am just providing help/alternate solutions. Your phone is your responsibility
I follow the steps above and got back up running.

Just to make this easy I had the same problem on replacing framework, too. Then I searched on some other forums here and found out you can copy or move the framework apk into system folder and fix permissions then move that framework I to the framework folder to replace over the existing apk and just reboot. Just make sure to make a nandroid before doing anything just incase something goes wrong.
Thanks
Thanks Carlos2200,
I would've taken that route but sadly I couldn't get into the system folder. I wasn't able to do a nandroid restore as my SD card got messed up and the backup was gone.
Definitely for anyone, make sure you have a good Nandroid before anything.
I will update that the method I mention above does remove all your accounts only. So you will have to re-add them.

An alternative....
For those who don't care to bother with the framework files in the event that 3minit is updated to work with 4.3, I came across an app on the play store called "wi-fi tether router" that seems to work, though I haven't a clue why it does. Changing the user agent on the browser renders it successful it seems. Good luck to all!
