Custom kernels - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do custom kernels erase all your phones data after flashing them?
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app

No. Not related to data. Just flash'em. Make sure u flash the right kernel for your android vers.
GB kernel = GB rom
Ics kernel = Ics rom
JB kernel = JB rom
Regards,
Sdojoin

Just to make sure you're saying I don't need to clear data to flash a kernel, and thx for replying

Question about kernels and roms.

I'm still pretty new to this. If I flash a new rom (in this case CM10) does it also flash a kernel? If I am on cm10 and flash a new aosp based kernel and decide to go back would I flash the stock Samsung kernel or is there a special one for cm10?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
All ROMs include a kernel, without one it wouldn't boot. If you flash a new kernel after installing CM10 and want to revert to the old kernel, just flash the ROM again without wiping data and it will restore the kernel.

You don't have to, you can just go in recovery and flash the new ROM if its the same Kernel.. I think!

I do not understand you ,, all apps work fine and everything work fine
Only ,, No Service Network
Were you using android 2.3.6 (gingerbread or GB) before you put on the custom ROMs, or did you have 4.1.2 (jelly bean or JB), it would help to know

Before this rom , I use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971243
and everything work fine
So you changed from a custom GB rom to a Custom JB rom maybe you should try to flash an official JB rom for exemple MG2!

How do this ??????
Search around for it, there will be a guide somewhere on this forum. And if you don't know how to do that, I recommend you don't even bother, you need to know what you are doing before you do this sort of thing. Do some research

Update your xs to 4.1.2 then
You should be able to flash
Just wipe your:
Dalvik
Cache
And if its not stock based then wipe your data
And again if its not a stock based rom ensure your bootloader is unlocked to avoid bricking
I think ive missed something but im sure thats more than enough
Any questions ask
And any one else try to help
