[Q] What happened to the phone's ram? - HTC One V

So, I have the HTC One V (CDMA) and when I first turned it on, it had 498 MB of RAM. When I check it now, it says I only have 316 MB of RAM!! 176MB is used and the rest is unused. What happened to the 196MB? I checked with Speed Booster Pro and the default Task Manager.

Don't worry, its fine.you will never get 512mb complete ram.it is occupied by temporary tasks and processes.even if you get around 200mb,its perfectly fine.
Edit:it is just hidden, you cannot see it.but,it is there.even on the first ever boot of the phone, you cannot see it all.

Oh, Must have seen something else then
I've gotten 170 free before...

I'm running with the most ram I've had in a while and that's 92 mb pretty consistently.

Maybe they're on SUPrimo. The ram values aren't edited so it says 768MB total

With the newest version of simon's SuperSlick kernel for AOSP 4.1.2 you end up getting 423mb RAM from the normal 333mb of you would receive in the past. I currently have 194mb of free RAM on the newest build of PACman for CDMA.

[Q] Release RAM

Hello everyone,
While using my arc s, my free RAM memory is often displayed as 70/80 MBs. (which is shown by using equipment's default information - if i use airdroid app it shows a lower value).
Is there a way to maximize free RAM or, in other words, minimize RAM usage?

Thanks pal,
However, It gets lower than that! Besides, are these values really reliable? Why do I get like 50% less while using AirDroid App? (Device - Ram Usage)
Thank you!

If your phone works fine...no lags. Then don't matter how much you had free ram....right. Android itself manages all like he need.

i think u shouldnt worry about that, all the other ram space is used to cache your application for fast opening, doesnt effect your performance if im correct..try task killer if u really want to free it..
In Android, you should only worry about free RAM when some tall dark stranger approaches you and says: "I'll give you a thousand bucks for each MB of free RAM on your phone".
Other than that, free RAM is wasted RAM, under normal circumstances.

Hey guys i have some problem with my ram. Its looks like my ram always around 275mb used and i already stop any apps that run in the background but my used ram never goes any lower than 200. Is it normal? Or do i need to do something about it? Could anyone give me solutions?

If it makes you feeel any better, mine is always between 300 and 315, even from boot it is at least 250 and soon ramps up as all my apps are loaded
Oh thanks for the info man. I guess its just normal then . But are you feeling a little lag in that condition of ram?
Sent from my BioWonder using xda premium
What ROM are you using? Maybe you can try another ROM, or maybe you can try to disable some apps's background processes, it may help a little bit
i usually use go powermaster to know what app are runnig in background, i sometimes i uninstall, usually maps, facebook, email, that kind of stuffs are always runing and wasting ram
you can try to install v6supercharge and use the script to clear ram, time by time...
I'm using indroid remics when I feel the lag, now I'm using biohazard it's smoother though
I already installed v6 supercharger on the indroid but no result still laggy

lags are just normal, since its android. its a bit complicated but here http://www.appleinsider.com/article...ag_occurs_more_often_in_android_than_ios.html
with v6 supercharger you have less ram I guess, because it holds launcher always in ram, so restarts are disabled, and it makes multitasking better. I dont know what exactly is meant by "better multitasking" but I guess it keeps apps longer in ram, so they dont need to re load. but i'm not sure about it.
maybe you can try a lighter launcher like launcherpro (it needs 9-15mb ram).

Yes sometimes, it really annoys the pants off me when i'm in a hurry but I came to SGW from a Nokia N95 8Gb which was stuffed to the point of bursting (not literally) with software - so the lag on my droid is still far less than I had got used to.
From a fresh flash of a new ROM it amazes me how 225 - 250mb is all thats needed, but all the apps I install are pretty much essential to me in one way or another (otherwise i'd have a dumb phone instead ) so I just put up with it, and save toward a new droid with RAM measured in Gig not Meg :fingers-crossed:

Theoretically - yes, but I wouldn't do that. It will work, but as I was saying - the previous one was based on a Russian ROM. This one - on an English one. So... I would recommend to do all the wipes. You can use TitaniumBackup to backup and then restore your settings.
The next releases wouldn't need any wipes!
Did clean install and restored apps/data using tibu. Running great so far. Good battery life too. 0 reboots or bsods. The addition of lte support would make this perfect, although I don't know if that's possible. I'd personally give this a 9/10. New daily driver. Awesome work man thank you

Seems like the in call volume fluctuates between really low then back to what it's set to. The Russian version did the same thing. It's inconsistent so hard to reproduce. Other than that, perfect. Outstanding battery life as well.

It's because of the baseband - (P936 20c). Try flashing the AT&T one (P930 20c or P930 10j).
It's the same when using v10j baseband.
Edit: I actually had to flash v10j on this version to pull any signal at all, whereas in the previous version (Russian) I had service using included baseband

The phone has 4GB of total combined internal storage space, but it's split up into separate partitions. For example the system partition takes up about 661MB out of that total.
Generally speaking, people only care about how much space is free on their data partition, since that is where downloaded apps are stored. This partition is 2.15GB. That's why sometimes you see the "total" reported as 4GB (counting all partitions) and sometimes you see ~2.15GB (counting only the data partition), depending on where the information is being reported.

No apps no cached processes no ram. Can't even start keyboard

So the title says it all. After ~1h of use my one x runs out of ram while not using it for cache or apps. I realize that unused ram is wasted ram but what is happening to me is definitely not normal. After a while after reboot all apps immediately closes after use, app drawer including. I can barely start keyboard. And settings shows that there is no cached processes which is unusual. I'm using icj 3.8. Any advice would be appreciated

No, but before this the rom worked well. I want to keep changing the rom or cleanly reinstalling it as the last resort option, because it is the most time consuming.

Then it's likely down to a specific app with a memory leak.
Start working backwards and uninstall apps one at a time until it goes away again.
Wouldn't that show in settings running apps and services? I tried stopping all and using task killer but that didn't help

Not necessarily.
You can shut down the app itself and remove it from the list, but it's possible the leakage is remaining memory resident.

I'm at 1.15 right now, but you got to realize that in Android unused RAM is really just a waste. With these modern phones it will keep apps in RAM to speed up launch times, response time, etc. As long as your RAM isn't so full it lags to launch new apps you're good. Android will clear space when it's needed.
