Google Maps does not speak street names - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

According to some users on xda, this appears to be an issue with the latest Google Maps update. The navigation simply states turn right, turn left and not the actual street names. I tried uninstalling the latest update and clearing the cache/data on Google Maps but that didn't fix the problem. I've had the same issue on my stock 4.1.1 and rooted 4.1.2
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about the Google navigation app? If so I can attest that it does speak street names as I'm out of town on business and just turned that app off.

That's really weird, all it ever does say is take exit 51a and take a right, never speaks street names. Maybe because I'm on international ROM?

Can I ask if you have the latest version of Google Maps, also do you have Talkback installed and enabled/disabled (this according to some users could be causing an issue)
Thanks

Predictive text not working

Predictive text and autocorrect isn't working on the tmobile galaxy s. i get the predictive text list but i have to manually select the best match. It works differently on htc and misspelt words are not indicated or corrected. can anyone confirm this?

Works fine.

Works fine here.
I get the predictive text list but it does not auto select the best match. I have to select the match. That's how I think it is suppose to work Iike it does on htc phones. On htc all i have to do is press the spacebar and it completes the word. Also there is no autocorrect happening. Misspelt words are not underlined or corrected.

Well that sucks. I hope they can fix this. Is there a way to return to the previous build? My phone came already updated. I had a Samsung phone with sprint 2 years ago and swore I would never buy Samsung again after so many software bugs and delayed upgrades but decided to take a chance. Already regretting it.

I have the exact same problem and my phone also came updated. Try SwiftKey its so much better!!! Haven't looked back ever since I installed it and I think the trial lasts 30 days. In SwiftKey settings let it learn from ur texts it doesn't send any data but just analyzes it to help prediction

Must be some other app allowing that to happen (if it's not Talkback or Driving Mode).

Sms popup doesn't read aloud. Check svoice settings I forget what its called but theres a audio option in there that reads whats on the screen. I think its called voice mode or audible mode or something buried in the svoice settings

just to be clear, you mentioned that this is happening across several ROM flashes...
are you TB'ing apps back w/ data? or does this actually happen on a clean flash?
All else fails, nandroid and add apps one by one. What ROM(s) are you flashing?

Maybe so. I usually stick with AOSP. Never had an experience like that. I'm not touting one over the other. Just curious what sammy feature would do that. I'll see what I can dig up later.

Strange Ads on CM10.1

I sometimes use the emoji keyboard that I downloaded off of the Play Store, but right now I 'froze' the app via Titanium Backup Pro because almost 3 times a day, I will get strange advertisements in my notification bar/drawer. And note that I only see this in this CyanogenMod ROM I'm running right now, when I'm running stock TouchWiz, these strange ads never appear. Is there any way to prevent these annoying ads?
Forgot to mention that I do have AdAway installed and working, but it doesn't work for the emoji keyboard.
I'm running CyanogenMod Version: 10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-d2tmo-M2

You can try using an air push blocker, or a different keyboard like go keyboard or kii which both have emoji inputs

Look at my two attached pictures. Phone has been in standby for 5 hours and battery is 95%.very good... But why is maps on top of my battery consumption list?? Haven't even openend maps! And everything is turned off in the maps app (location sharing etc...)
Is this a reporting bug? Ofc reinstalled the maps app with no luck.

One touch gps?

Hello there. I'm one of those users Wii turns all GPS/location services off when I'm not using it, but when I want to use gps, I have to long press the gps toggle, click the 2 boxes, then go to Google settings, click location services, turn Wi-Fi on, all that good stuff. Is there any widget or app I could use to turn all this on and off at once? Thank you in advance for your answers friends.

Why shut it off if not using it? It's not doing anything or activating anyhow so just keep it on. That toggle doesn't do anything but tell apps whether or not GPS is available. So if you aren't seeing the icon in the status bar, no GPS is being used. So just leave it on. Mines on all the time.

But that won't cause wake locks and drain the battery? As sparsely as it's used, doesn't seem worth the drain possibility, but when I need it, it's needed immediately, and briefly. That's why I'm asking if what I'm requesting is even possible.

It will not drain your battery unless it's being used by some app or something. Other than that, it's not being used unless you see the icon in the status bar.

you could use llama or tasker to create an action so when you open maps or any other program, turn on gps...and when you exit that program it will automatically turn off gps

Yes, you have to get an app called Secure Settings. I use it for my maps. The only thing is, you have to agree with the location service when it pops up. I don't mind, it only takes an extra second. I also created a widget that toggles location services on and off for the times I need to quickly access it. I love Tasker, it's awesome! I find automated tasks for it to do all the time.
