[Q] r800x Factory Reset with bloatware removed - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

About 2 years ago I rooted my Xperia Play r800x and removed a bunch of the Verizon bloatware. Before I did any of this I backed up everything using Titanium Backup. My phone has started to run slow and I want to pretty much do a clean install. What I was planning on doing was formatting my sd card putting my backup from before I uninstalled anything and doing a restore all. Then do a factory reset on the phone.
I'm also using link2sd so I'm not sure what effect wiping my sd card will have, but does this sound like the best plan of action?
Also once I do the reset, is there an easy way to prevent the over the air update to 2.3.4? I'm currently on 2.3.3 and don't want to upgrade since Verizon broke all the Google connections with no update in sight.

2.3.4 is still broken if you update over the air. Another fellow mentioned about buying R800x from verizon that already has 2.3.4 and it has google services working. If you seriously want 2.3.4 firmware on your R800x use flashtool.

If you want to just stick with 2.3.3 then just do a factory reset and format your SD. I don't see what the issue is. Does it force you to do an update or can't you just cancel it?
I had no problem with Google last I used a Verizon Play with 2.3.4. And its better to up date to 2.3.4 since it have some improvement and introduce autofocusing for video recording. What I recommend doing is to update to 2.3.4 with root, you can do it without unlocking the bootloader using my guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33401955. If you have issues with Google just install the GB gapps, then do a factory reset.

[Q] Xperia Play 2.3.2 downgrade problem

I wanted to root my phone with Gingerbread so I downgraded it to 2.3.2. It was on 2.3.4 which was flashed by Flashtool. Many things are crashing and it's very annoying. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong? Also, the boot is taking a long time. Help?
Sometimes it notifies me that SD card is safe to remove. Does this stop the Gingerbreak process? Various crap crash like some .acore or .media or something..
I've successfully installed superuser, does it mean that my phone is rooted?
If I upgrade back to 2.3.4 and not wiping the user data, will I retain root?

[Q] Problem downloading/updating and deleting apps. unrooted

It seems like ever since the market updated to google play i can't download any new apps on my phone (the force close and disappear as soon as i open them). Also, when i try to update existing apps they also force close and disappear but they end up coming back if i restart my phone. Also applications that i've had on my phone that i don't use any more I can't get rid of. I delete them and they come right back as well.
I've tried to restore my phone in tons of diffrent ways, regular factory reset, ruu, thought hboot, and htc sync. Factory reset and hboot just give me a red exclamation that i can't get around, the ruu someone told me to use didn't work i believe because the version of android i'm running and htc sync always tells me my phone isn't connected when clearly it is because i can open it up and explore it on my computer.
I'm at a loss, anyone have any ideas?
Time for a new phone?
Maybe consider rooting? I actually haven't seen a dinc with GB 2.3.4 that upgraded to google play, for some reason I've seen it stay with the market. My phone hasn't been in stock for a long time so I couldn't really say if that were true now but I know that google play was first released back in March and mid-april when I first rooted my Dinc, it was still on the android market. That being said, the dinc is far from trash if you are willing to root and flash a custom ROM to it.
I've seen this problem on ROMs when the version of gapps wasn't compatible with the ROM anymore because either the ROM was updated or gapps was updated and compatibility was lost. Usually in that situation I would recommend that person to do a fresh flash of their ROM with the newest google apps but in your case I would suggest flashing a custom ROM for the first time. if that is not an option you want to explore at this time, I believe that if you place this PB31IMG.zip on the root of your SD card (which must be formatted to FAT32) and then get into hboot it will reflash gb for you which might do the trick.

my DINC upgraded to google play when it was on stock. But really, stock sucks and has bugs. Upgrade to a real firmware listed here

[Q] [Help] Problems after updating Xperia S to JB

I updated my Xperia S to JB with PCC.
I thought it would be a smooth experience, but all hell broke loose after the update finished.
1. Walkman does not work. It crashes all the time and always gives me the error "Unfortunately, WALKMAN has stopped working"
2. The album app cannot detect any of my photos stored in my device. Same goes for Ringtone picker. I have tried clearing Media Storage (It always worked for me in ICS) but it simply refuses to rebuild the Media Storage.
3. I cannot connect it to my PC at all. PCC keeps reporting an error and any of their proposed solutions do not work. When I try taking a screenshot, it says "Unable to capture screenshot, internal storage may be in use". Did the update screw up my internal storage?
I am now trying to flash it back to .55 FW. After first successful flash, it is stuck in a bootloop, crashing on the XPERIA logo. So now I am trying to reflash it again. However, I keep getting weird stuff like "Flash Aborted" or "Flash Cancelled" by Flashtool for no reason.
What should I do?

Before you hard brick your phone. Read this carefully.
You probably updated your phone to JB without resetting data/factory reset that is why you're facing force closes, lags etc. Now you should download SUS as you have effed up your phone, from here. Then follow the on-screen instructions CAREFULLY and you'll get your phone back, working with no lag/force closes whatsoever.

I find it odd that Sony didn't mention anything about resetting phone when updating via PCC.
Thanks for your help though. I managed to get it to stop bootlooping and flashed a ftf to completely wipe everything - there goes all my messages.......
Now I'm able to at least boot into .55. Should I update to JB now since it's on a totally clean slate and hopefully prevent any other unexpected stuff from happening?

Well, i'm downloading jelly bean now due to its high antutu score, which basically means more performance. When i updated from Sony Update Service, it asked me if i wanted to just update, or wanted to update with a clean install.

I see. So SUS is a more reliable option I guess.
On another note, managed to update to JB and issues are resolved. Only sad part is a ton of my past apps have about 8gb of SD data on my SD card but they aren't installed -.-"
Time to manually reinstall them.....

Possible Solution : CLEAN RE-FLASH
The New Update downloads and optimizes a few apps at start up from phone.
You will find new small apps google updates for 4.1.2 and also new chrome browser.
If you are facing the problem.
Reason is 4.1.2 Google Apps might not be compatible with ICS and vice verse.
What you can do now.
Reset Your Phone.
Check if the phone shows "Optimizing Apps" After Flashing from SONY Official Software..
If not! Flash Again With A Clean Whip.
If You are on rooted and unlocked phone and with recovery : Flash Gapps compatible with your device.
I hope this information helps you.
Reply back if there is a progress.

Just found out that my router had DNS settings that change location for Netflix, and my phone was freaked out.
Now router is on default settings and everything works.
Not sure why XS was fine with it when it was on ICS.
Thanks for reply.
Best part of update is when connected to my car stereo via BT, songs information shows!!!!
I just could guess that even my SE MW600 might work with songs ID, will check later when come back from school.

Some times it takes a while( maybe days or weeks) before Goolge actually update itself. It is totally normal.

I've had this phone for a month and during that time I performed factory resets twice for reasons unrelated to the Play Store. Before the resets the Play Store wouldn't automatically update. After the first reset it did update, but after the second reset it wouldn't update. I thought something might be screwed up on my phone so I just manually updated. I wasn't sure if anyone else was having the same problem.

Doing a factory reset may have messed with your Android ID. I think the best thing you can do is clear all data from the Play Store app, and then un-install all updates from it, reboot, and then open the Play Store again. Hopefully that would "reset" the update process, and give you the newest version.
Thanks to every one that try to help, I figured it out
I restored all my apps using titanium backup before setting up my google play store account, since TB backs up android ID as well, ones I restored my apps using TB, the google play store would not update itself because my android ID says it is updated to latest one all ready.
If made an error trying to explain my apologies goes for you all.

So how did you fix the problem? My playstore is not updating either and I'm fairly certain I didn't restore any of my apps with titanium the last time I used Odin to update to the latest stock firmware back in September. I am rooted if that makes a difference.
(EDIT) I now see how you fixed it. I read your answer incorrectly the first time by the way it was worded. But looking at it again today I understand. Thanks for your input.
