Maybe you've Cut/Pasted it somewhere? Try searching it using keywords you remember that the files contains. If that doesn't work, stick it into your computer and see if it can read it.

new to Epic 4G Touch with some questions

hello everyone...i'm coming from an HTC Evo 3D and just recently got the Epic 4G Touch. My little dilemma is that the phone won't read some things on my SD Card. for example it wont read backups i have saved for some certain*apps and it wont read my docs2go files. they show up when i plug my phone to my computer but not on the phone when its disconnected. i've formatted the SD Card mounted and unmounted and still nothing. My documents show up in the Polaris app though just not in my docs2go. Any ideas?
I'm also new to this whole internal/external sd card thing as well. What I see is that certain apps wont automatically read files located higher than /sdcard, and the external sd card is found at /mnt/mmc or /sdcard-ext for the newer phones. Do you have the same issue when you move those files to the internal storage?
I haven't tried moving files around. How would I do that?

Grab astro file manager from the market. Find the files and section "multi" then hit move. Find the new directory you want then in and select paste
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
For Real? If so, you either use "my files" app or grab es file explorer and navigate to, and then long press on the file and choose move> move to desired location.
Otherwise, happy fools day...
Yup I was being for real. I never had to do that before. Every time I wanted move files around I just plugged my phone to my comp. I'm one of those ppl that really doesn't root or try different ROMs on my phone not because I don't want to but I'm terrified of messing it up lol

? about 4.2 sdcard structure deletion

Why is the sdcard listed in so many places. I know they are basically shortcuts to the sd because as of now I only have 2 gig free on my card and there is no room to copy/paste it or whatever.
When I look in root explorer i see /sdcard, /storage/emulated, /storage/sdcard0, and /data/media/0 all have my sd files in them.
My main problem is now quick pic sees double of everything, can I delete any of these mentioned above? I don't want to just "hide" them from quick pic, I want just one copy of each folder if possible.
I believe if you use a file explorer on the phone and not MTP, it's much quicker to just move the stuff you need to the root of the SD card and then delete the duplicates. I would wait for someone to verify that though before you proceed. Mine was doing something weird in TWRP. I tried to flash the stock 4.2 again in hopes any issues I had would be resolved. Didn't so I went to restore my CM10 data and it wasn't there. At all. I'm thinking to myself it somehow wiped everything. Nope. My files were there, but only when I flashed a fresh CM10 build. I don't know exactly what happened, but 4.2 has had some weird issues with recoveries, which were addressed for the most part.

[Q] Formatting MicroSD

I used the settings in my Note 2 to format my 32GB microsd card. when i view it in windows explorer, the only folder that has been created is the LOST.DIR. should it be creating a folder structure?
on my BlackBerry, whenever my card was formatted, the device would create the folder structure for music, videos, pictures, etc. I've already removed and reinserted the microsd card. Am I missing something?
you're missing the question and answer section
Thanks, I just checked there but still couldn't find my answer. Can't see a way to delete this thread, only edit, so if anyone is able to help out, it'd be appreciated.

Thanks....that worked for the camera! I tried launching the music player and video player, but no other folders are created.
Problems is, is that I have media to restore to the card but not sure if i should create the folders manually or what.
The reson i formatted it, is cause i took it straight from my Z10 to my Note 2 and wanted to clean up the folder structure. remove data, format, restore into new android folder structure. but didn't really work out

[Q] Can't Rename Copy or Write files to External SD card

Hi guys, my issue is that I've put a new sd card in 64Gb microSD. I've tried moving files across from internal to external and it just fails every time.
I've tried creating a folder separately on the external card, but once it's created I can't delete it, I can't rename it and I can't put any files in there. Can't even copy files into the sd card in general.
I did format the card on the phone itself. Also, now when I connect my device to the computer it doesn't even show up as a device in explorer.
All this seems to have happened after the 10g update.
Anyone know why this is happening or how to get around it, please? (This is happening with ES File Explorer)

If you're rooted there's an easy manual fix here:
http://www.droidviews.com/restore-write-capability-to-external-sd-card-on-kitkat-manually/
I don't think that you should have to root your phone just to change files on your SD card. I had a G2 and I had to take it back for warranty fixes two times and they had a big sign at the front of the LG warranty repair center, rooting your phone voids your warranty . I don't think that you should have to root your phone just to have write access to the files on your SD card but it looks like I will keep plugging my phone into my PC to keep changing them.
Moving Files works with the LG File Explorer that comes with the phone.
I've read its a problem created by Google, so a lot of the File Explorers do not work.
Not ideal, but the on board one does the job.
Cheers!

You do. Unless you only use the limited stock file manager possibly.

It certainly is a backwards step by Google, what are they trying to achieve? The stock browser is ok for some tasks, but for batch work, batch moving files etc. it's very awkward to use the stock browser.
I hope they damn well put the access back in the next release.

I just bought an LG G3 which came with KK 4.3.x and upgraded to KK 4.4.2. I am using the LG File Explorer that comes with the phone to move music and pictures from internal storage to the SD card. After the upgrade to KK 4.4.2 it doesn't work using the same file manager. Pre-upgrade it worked just fine. Tried Delete, Move and Copy functions and none seem to work. Deleting a picture file only seems to work from the Gallery app.
I'm a little frustrated as it seems it should work even with the restrictions of KK 4.4.2 for SD cards since its the pre-installed file manager that came with the phone and other seem to have success with it AND using the Gallery app to delete works. I can read from the SD card fine (File Manager sees the files, played music in the standard music app, view photos fine) so I don't think its a bad card already. (I just bought the card too).
Any thoughts on why the default file manager won't copy/move/delete files on the SD?

Root Directory Folder Just Appeared

Just had a message from Google Photos to Backup 0123-4567 Folder
After a search i find that this is in Root/Storage and seems to be either a clone of my SD Card or Shortcut to it.
Either way something obviously written it to the Root and isn't removable.
Could this be a virus or malware?
Forgot to attach Screenshot
Root in this sense is just the base directory ... Not sure the file explorer your using but it's how it should appear .. see my attached screenshot from MiXplorer on my un-rooted device .
Root can mean either root user (i.e. you 'rooted' your device to gain Su rights, root rights) or it can mean the root directory, i.e. the base directory (on windows the root directory would be your c drive, or your root user directory your home drive)
Maybe an application update on your file explorer of choice?

Im unrooted and using file manager which ive had since day 1, but this morning I get a notification that i can backup the new folder 0123-4567 which resides in the storage folder of the root directory, if i open this folder it contains exactly what is in my SD Card. Which is strange for it to just appear out of the blue.

as stated root in your case is /... referring to root directory.. the screenshot u posted is normal.. basically its /storage... this is all normal.. the 0123-4567 is typically your external sdcard... /storage/emulated/0 is the main storage directory for internal memory i.e. where Download folder is for example.. another way u can get there is /sdcard which is a shortcut to /storage/emulated/0
you probably had an app or something u installed that can read sdcard but its definitely nothing to worry about amd is definitely not a virus since thats how pretty much every android device is for years n years now

Yes im an advanced Android user, i know all about Root...but its always been emulated/0/ and nothing was installed or uninstalled. I have never seen 0123-4567 as an SD card directory on the last dozen Android phones ive owned previously. Just seemed a little suspicious it would ask me to backup a NEW Folder for no reason.

not sure what you are talking about honestly.. / has always been known as root directory or rootfs etc...
there is no /emulated.. it is /storage/emulated which translates to root(dir) > storage > emulated...
under /storage you will see your different storage locations which will be your extsd (XXXX-XXXX), internal storage (/storage/emulated/0)...
I honestly dont know what android devices youve owned or if you are confused but it is what it is.. it is not unusual for your device to ask if you want to back stuff up on your storage directories.
Case in point my extsd is shown below, in a XXXX-XXXX character map to storage .from what I gather there isn't a naming convention at all on how these are mapped, vendorID maybe of the sdcard ? I dunno ... Tis what it is and I just ignore

What im talking about is pretty obvious in my root/storage directory a brand new directory appeared called 0123-4567 which has never been there before.
And i have owned Nexus 2 3, 5, 6P, Huawei mate 9, mate 20 pro, samsung s9+ s10+ S20Ultra
All of the nexus i rooted with custom firmware.
None of these phones had ever had 0123-4567 as a folder anywhere in the any root directory on the phones until this occurred yesterday.
And im well aware its usual that the phone asks for backups.
Your missing the entire point. Which is
A New directory appears
The phone notification also stated if i wanted to backup the photos in this.... NEW FOLDER.
upon examination of this folder it was just a clone of the sd card.
emulated and internal folders still appear as always did in the storage directory... but now theres a new resident.... 0123-4567 whom moved in yesterday.
What's difficult to understand???
Screenshots... notice SD card appears in the Root directory which is how its been since phone was launched and purchased 6 months or so ago. 0123-4567 Never appeared in storage until Sep 11 2020.
Notice that theres nothing in the other folders, however yesterday emulated had /0 which contained my sd card contents..... now its not accessible.
Google found my hidden root folder. I got 100gbs of porn store there
Just for comparison screenshot from my S5e tablet using the same Solid File Explorer Version. The only difference on my tablet is no synergy theming. Same apps installed on both devices.

ur phone must have been glitched before then and all ur other phones..
u have to look at ur permissions as well.. ur clearly not root and to view storage storage/emulated you need root permissions..
Xxxx-xxxx IS YOUR EXTERNAL SDCARD
it could have been google photos wasnt saving to extsd or settings changed or app was updated or u created a new folder or saved something to ur extsd that prompted it to ask if u wanted to back it up..
also if u look in ur own screenshot sdcard is just a symlink to /storage/emulated/0 which is your internal storage.
theres not really any other way to explain it. it is normal behavior, not a virus or anything, xxxx-xxxx is ur extsd, its no virus, its not root (u dont have any special root permissions or anything) so im still not sure what else u need answered. If you still disagree with something then that wont change any of the facts
ive had every samsung since original smartphone, multiole goigke phones, some lg phines, some zte, asus and even some motos and they were all the same so either unvr paid attention to it before or who knows.
also doesnt matter what apps u have installed or anything.. if u put a extsd into ur tablet ull see the same or similar xxxx-xxxx in same directory
