Secret to Entering Stock Recovery - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

According to many sources stock recovery is finicky to enter. I figured out the secret.
Stock recovery is protected by an android on his back with a red triangle and exclamation point. Most places I looked the directions say to push volume up + volume down + power and try it several times until it works. While this may work eventually, there is an easier way and yes there is a trick to it.
Upon seeing the Android on his back with the red exclamation point,
1. press volume up + volume down + power
2. Let go of volume up and volume up only (you should be holding down just power and down)
3. Recovery has been entered.
No longer do we have to make several attempts!!!!

Huh? Who the hell can't get into recovery?

how about try the right way, when you see the android hold power and tap vol up.

He has a point some people didnt or dont know how I suppose. Think of the nubs.

I press the volume - then the power button then the volume + . Then let go of them all ,works for me on my Verizon galaxy nexus

When you get to the menu with the green android where you can select start, recovery, etc, you select recovery. If you are using the stock recovery, you should an Android with a red triangle and an exclamation point <== this is the main screen of the stock recovery. To access the menu, you hold power and then press volume up. Nothing else is needed - no other tricks.

What you are mentioning is the bootloader or fastboot mode, you can enter recovery from there.
Press power when you see recovery on the bootloader screen and then you will see the Android guy lying on his back with the red triangle if you have stock recovery. Then do what I said in the OP and you will have access to the stock recovery.

Hey one Galaxy Nexus user can't unlock bootloader because he's pc does not recognize driver files so fastboot and ADB does not work.
He is using Yakjuxw 4.1.1 and he wants to unlock bootloader to be able flash Jelly Bean 4.2.1 but all the methods does not work so this may be the only one way to root he's Nexus is to flash root*.zip via stock recovery!
but he has methods like flash via ADB/USB but when he selects "from USB drive" - Android cannot find the .zip file so he is not able to flash it, so how he can flash the root files from internal storage via stock recovery?
can someone tell me?
also the fake backup rooting didn't work too when he tried it.
He lives in Estonia and I live in Finland so it's really hard to help him via msn.
Thanks.

[Q] Unable to get into Bootloader [Bootloop]

So I bought myself a Galaxy Nexus from Ebay and it arrived today.
The problem with it is, that the seller told me he did an OTA Update that in the end causes endless Bootloops.
I thought to myself that this should be easy to solve by just flashing a custom rom but I don't even get to the Bootloader.
Whenever I press Volume Up + Down + Power the Google logo appears without vibrating or anything.
Then it goes on to the Nexus Bootscreen till it just restarts.
Any Ideas?
Does adb recognizes your de vice?

Isn't it necessary to be able to boot to check that?
So it looks like my phone is soft bricked.
There's still the problem that I'm unable to get into the bootloader aswell as into download mode.
I also already tried the OMAP flash tool.

I sadly can't access ADB either. Bought myself a USB-Jig.
Anyone got experience in these kinda things?

It will get you into Odin mode similar to pressing Vol down + Power, then you can use Odin to flash a new firmware which is very dangerous and could brick your device if done wrong

Successfully flashed a new rom on my nexus via Odin but I'm still unable to get into fastboot/bootloader.
Bootloop also occures whenever I start the device

Booting into Custom recovery help

I have rooted and unlocked my phone using he tool kit which worked like a charm.
My question now is how to boot into recovery? I have a galaxy nexus and I just hold the power button and down volume and it works fine.
Using TWRP recovery that was installed with the root kit.
With this device, it will just boot into safe mode.
My goal here is to install a custom rom.
Also, I am used to flashing the ROM and Gapps with my Galaxy Nexus , but the instructions or this phone always having something about extracting a zip and flashing it after the gapps. What is this for?
Thanks
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
You have to zip a ROM, gapps, and then flash the kernel. If you're using the all in one toolkit then all you have to do is press "boot into recovery," otherwise you'll have to power your phone off, go into boot loader by pressing your power and volume down button for a bit then in boot loader scroll down to recovery.I'm not 100% sure about how to work your recovery cause I use cwm. I hope this helps though. Good luck.

When i try to hold down the power button and down volume it will boot into safe ode not recovery.
Regarding flashing the kernels, Do they not come with the rom itself like JB Sourcery and all the roms for the Galaxy Nexus?
I would flash another kernel sometimes, like Franco, but that was optional.
Thanks
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I basically just want "vanilla" JB installed .
How can I do this?

no u have to use fastboot to flash kernel boot img and twrp has the option on the main screen to flash zip on it when u get to the main screen it is pretty self explanitory but, to get to recovery using adb just do the command adb reboot recovery in fastboot just replace the adb with fastboot if no p.c. then turn phone of power on and after hiting powerr botton just do power and bottom down and it should take u to bootloader screen
where do I get kernel boot.img? Is that something that comes with the rom like when i flash in my Galaxy Nexus
if I'm not mistaken, this forum is for the HTC One V... maybe the guys in the galaxy nexus forum can help you more?

Hold Volume up&home +power until the phone vibrates, then let go of just the power button (continue holding vol up&home).
Once you're in recovery you can flash a different rom, restore a backup, etc.

Make sure your battery is charged to at least 70%. Once done try entering recovery again by holding down vol up + power + home key at the same time until you see the blue text on the upper left hand corner and then let go. If this doesn't work you should be able to enter download mode with vol down + power + home key. If so I'd recommend flashing back to complete stock using ODIN on your pc and start from scratch.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I think people make it more complicated than it needs to be. Press the power button. When the phone vibrates, release it. Hold home+vol up until you see the recovery booting blue text, then release those.
Holding the power button puts the phone in a boot loop. Something I used to do on occasion until I learned it in fact didn't need to be held at all.
you can do this too...wipe data and factory...sometimes happening when i flasshing via odin

Vol down + power is indeed Odin mode, not recovery mode. FYI, OP, you should really read efrant's android on the gnex 101 (its stickied on General sub forum)

Button combo to enter stock recovery?

After I select recovery from the bootloader menu I get the android with the red exclamation mark. What do I press to enter recovery from there?
Hmmm... I know it is POWER+VOL DOWN to get to bootloader. Then I use volume keys to get to recovery and then I am at TWRP. What are you trying to do with the stock recovery?

You need to put TWRP on your Nexus 7.

I believe you push vol + & vol - at the same time. It should get you in then. As others have said, you are better off using TWRP though.

Thanks everyone. Holding power and one press of the volume up button is the secret to getting into stock recovery. Anyways, moving on. Time to mess with this svelte 32gb awesomeness!
I was wondering the same thing. I remember on my Nexus S if I went into recovery it went into recovery. I never recalled seeing the Android with the red exclamation.

You can just push volume up (no need for power) to get the recovery menu from the fallen android overlay.

The fallen android IS recovery. It just isn't showing you the menu until you push volume up.
