[Q] Fake Class10 SD-Card ? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Week ago i bought a Kingston Class 10 - 16GB ,, Now i'm testing it's Writing/Read Speed using SD Tools and ONLY get
Writing Speed : 8.4 MB/s
Reading Speed : 20.0 MB/s
And i know that the class 10 has a minimum writing speed = 10 MB/s
Class 10 asserts that the card supports 10 MB/s as a minimum non-fragmented sequential write speed.

I think that 10MB\s is theorical speed...

10 mb/s isn't the minimum , its the average and usually alot of ppl get speeds below it (like 8 or 9) sometimes it hits above 10 but not often (at least with me)

Before I answer I might point that this is the wrong section to ask a question mate.
SD cards are separated in classes but the class number does not define its minimum speed. Class 4 can hit 5-6MB/s Class 6 can hit up to 10MB/s and Class 10 can hit up to 15MB/s . But that does not mean every time it will be that high. Normal speed varies from 8-12.
And especially when its Micro SD you might to cut it slightly bit more lower. Which means that 8MB/s is extremely reasonable.
Mine is only 7+MB/s.

em.mayb u can try testing it several time.im getting different result from 6-10++mb/s..did u use swapped file for ram?

FYI
Scan.co.uk are selling 16GB CLASS 10 microSD cards by Kingston! They are a bit pricey, but have MASSIVE data transfer rates.
Look up Cat No.s LN32904, LN32905, LN32786 - they are all about £80 each and in stock now.
ebuyer have them for between £70-80
Does it need to be that fast? on a phone? I have no problems playing movies from my class 2 I think it is ???

Today it's not much of an issue, right, but if the summer's updates bring Apps2SD it would do a lot to eliminate a possible (probable) bottleneck when you load or run apps from the card, keeping your phone interface nice and zippy.
EDIT: From wikipedia....
The following are the ratings of some currently available cards:
Class 2: 16 Mbit/s (2 MB/s)
Class 4: 32 Mbit/s (4 MB/s)
Class 6: 48 Mbit/s (6 MB/s)
Class 10: 80 Mbit/s (10 MB/s)
Keep in mind that class only applies to write speeds, and it's a minimum speed. Lower classes can be a lot faster then said above.
Indeed.. I'll be investing in a 16GB class 10 at some point, sorted for life once you got one I dont need 32GB's tbh
A swedish mag ran tests that shows Sandisks Class 6 cards performing on par with the Kingston Class 10 or better, can't remember where, but Swedroid linked to it...

This is because the write speed is the lower speed. All flash classes are measured that way. I have a class 6 pen-drive and it's blazingly fast - it was more expensive (2 years ago) and worth every penny

Yes I know thats what I said. Some people don't really care that much about write speed (like me). Read speed (loading apps) is important to me, installing not so much, don't mind to wait a bit.

[Q] Is my brand new Kingston Class 4 16GB MicroSDHC card legit?

It took about 20 minutes to transfer 2.99 GB from my Macbook to my EVO... I thought the class is the minimum write speed - i.e. Class 4 ~ 4 MB/s write. If I did the math right, writing about 3GB = ~3000 MB, at 4 MB/s that's ~750 seconds = ~12.5 minutes...minimum.
Is there a way I can effectively test this thing (on a Mac preferably)?

You can try either of these two programs. They are bot in the zip they will bench test your sd card, only work on windows though. You may be able to find them for a Mac. Sorry I only use windows so can't help much with the Mac side of things.

thank you for that lil proggie gonna ck my new Lexar 32gig out 2nite when i get home...took me approx 30 mins maybe to xfer over approx 7 gigs from the old card!

Increase your sdcard read/write speed!!!

I havnt seen this talked about, remember it back in the og epic forums though.
This will allow you to change the cache set for read and write on the sdcard.
The first app SD Booster will allow you to make the change, it is set to 128 stock, I have found that 2048 (2mb) or 3072 (3mb) are the best settings.
The next app SD Tools will let you see the speed increase SD Booster has allowed.
Ill also inclue an update.zip if you dont want the SD Booster app, the script is set to 3mb.
Update.zip
SD Booster
SD Tools
ROM Toolbox Pro also has the SD Boost on performance settings. There are the 2048 and 3072 options. Thanks for the test app info

Must be something wrong with my phone. SD Tools tells me ~5 MB/s read and write with class 10 cards. I've tried 2 separate cards and a few different read ahead settings. This has been the same for ICS and GB on stock and repacked (GB) kernels.
Definitely test your speeds after using. Decreased mine for some reason

Just as a side note, class 10 should have a minimum of 10 mb/s of write speed... which you're clearly getting, but the read speed should've been equal or higher !! It doesn't make sense because to write, the card does 2 operations but to read it only performs one operation... so in theory, the card should get twice the speed when reading vs writing !!
Look at the bottom of this page, to see an example ... http://www.frys.com/product/6786695

Because you're testing the internal memory, not the external SD. If I pull out my SD card, I get the same read speeds.
Here is my SDcard statistics -
32GB Samsung Class 10
(Speed testing app - Antutu benchmark v2.7.3)
2048kb - write 5.1MB/s Read 43.1 MB/s
128kb - write 5.4 MB/s Read 18.3 MB/s
1024kb - write 5.5MB/s Read >50MB/s
3072kb - write 5.7MB/s Read >50MB/s
4096kb - write 5.6MB/s Read >50MB/s
(SD Tools - is this useless app? I can't believe this result. It seems like it doesn't care the buffer size)
4096kb - write 5.1MB/s Read 7.9 MB/s
3072kb - write 4.8MB/s Read 7.9MB/s
2048kb - write 5.1MB/s Read 8.2 MB/s
1024kb - write 5.0MB/s Read 8.0 MB/s
128kbkb - write 5.1MB/s Read 8.0MB/s
SD Card Tester
1024kb - write 5.54MB/s read 27.89MB/s
2048kb - write 5.67MB/s read 27.74MB/s
3072kb - write 5.43MB/s read 27.7MB/s
4096kb - write 5.49MB/s read 28.48MB/s
128kb - write 5.58MB/s read 29.58MB/s
I'll find out more tools to measure the speed.
- it seems like that's it. I couldn't find any more reliable apps to test SDcard speed.

Wildfire with SD class 10 faster or not ?

I curently have SD card class 4 and SD-EXT on it . All my app are on SD-EXT .
HTC wildfire installed cm-7-20120909-NIGHTLY-buzz. Will there be any difference in speed of phone and in communication with PC ?
Yeah.. there will be obviously. I get around 9-10mbps write speed on my class 10 card and read speed around 25-27 mbps. When compared to class 4, you will get 3-4 and 5-6 respectively. Huge difference.

Well, as he's a Team Buzz member and you posted in the Wildfire forum he most likely took that into account when answering
But you seem to look for some bullet proof answer - so: yes I can confirm that you get faster read and write speeds with a class 10 and our Wildfire can handle those speeds pretty well - please note that it's the card that makes the brake here, the internal r/w speeds are much faster
--- EDIT --- but you shouldn't expect too much from a faster card. My observation is that the class 10 card made my Willly much more stable. The speed improvement in my opinion isn't as much remarkable as many other tweaks (like custom mtd partitions, disable services, prevent certain processes from starting at boot, setting better minfree values etc.)
Thanks for the confirmation. You made my job easier. @eventcom.
@op: it was obvious man. I had been using class 10 for some time now and I can see considerable changes which I just love it. Another thing, if it wasn't compatible, I would have straight away said that
Sent from Hell!!
Thank you both for clearing that
I replaced my class 4 with class 10 SD card
Boot time is almost the same , applications start much faster and communication with PC is almost the same ,maybe little faster .

I think it is differ at the read and write speed of sdcard. Maybe it will effect the game, if you swap the sdcard. Then when it need to read data from sdcard, the higher class will make it faster. Just what i understand about that. Correct me if i'm wrong

Class 2 is the slowest SD card speed. It had a write speed of about 2MBPS and is suitable for standard video recording. Class 4 and class 6 have 4 and 6 MBPS write speed respectively and can be used for HD Video recording. Class 10 (obviously) has a 10MBPS write speed and beyond that is the UHS speed cards that can go up to 312MBPS.

Speed Classes 2, 4, and 6 assert that the card supports the respective number of megabytes per second as a minimum sustained write speed for a card in a fragmented state.
You should utilize only UHS Speed Class.
Class 2,4,6,10 are laggy.

I disagree. Even at class 8, the sd card is said to be fast enough to be used as ram. Pretty sure anything you load from a class 8 and above card will be fast enough. UHS might be overkill (more performance than needed, waste money)
As for class 4 or 6,if the price difference is huge, just go for class 4. Put your programs on internal storage and stuffs that don't need high speed communication with your cpu such as pictures, video, unused files, etc can be placed in external.
