I have recently upgraded my phone from a Droid Incredible to the Galaxy Nexus. While on the Incredible Conap created a cool app called "Change Carrier Name" V1.3 that automated the process of changing the carrier name. Thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960111
Would it be possible to do the same for the Galaxy Nexus? If the process could be automated it would sure beat editing the framework by hand.
Use Aokp it has what you're looking for.

Was hoping this could be accomplished without replacing the stock ROM with a custom one. Something like unlock and root stock ROM, install APK, run, rename, reboot and PRESTO new custom carrier name.

Changing carrier name on a odexed ROM is kind of difficult and very limited.
Even the thread you link says,
Currently only for AOSP roms such as cyanogenmod roms.

Yea but you need to either hex edit or decompile and edit with a xml editor. Just follow the instructions in the thread I linked to.

But if you do that, it'll probably alter your OTA ability in the future and will cause problems.
quick question, and pardon my ignorance, would changing the carrier name make it where techincally I could use the towers from other carriers and get a better signal in certain locations? Im not an amatuer when it comes to rooting and other forms of development but I've never thought about even looking into doing that? how well did it work when you did it on your incredible? Thanks in advance.

No. You'd be on the same network and same towers.
You're also on Verizon. So there is no way you're going to be able to use AT&T or T-Mobile's towers. Even if it was possible, it'd be illegal.
oh ok thanks for the clarification.

Gummies Rom has carrier text change capabilities
Sent from my 4g GUMMY Nexus
zephiK: Took your advice and installed AOKP ROM. Don't foresee going back to stock any time soon. Love AOKP in conjunction with Franco's Kernel. Carrier name change was a breeze. Loving the other features of this ROM as well. I would recommend it to anyone with a Galaxy Nexus.
i have the same question
in miui the carrier.apk will show the carrier in the upper left in statusbar
will that work with aosp crom on the nexus aswell?
i know i can change it in aokp, but its not shown in the statusbar..
I had a couple question and hopefully you guys can help me out.
I have a gs3 and was looking to install a rom, now do these roms just add features or do they completely replace the default rom? Im I going to be able to do everything I was able to do before the custom rom? Also what does "cm10" or "cm5" mean? Also my phones 4g isnt working, it stays at edge, no mateer if I have full bars. Would a custom rom maybe solve the problem? If I add a custom rom can I revert to stock without side effects?
Thnks
Read and read and Google and Google, or vice versa! And have you rooted and flashed already? If so check your imei and see if it has numbers or just 0 (settings, about phone, status, imei) oh and read some more like the resource guide I created, and Google other things.

Buddy my advice to you is read more! And that's being serious because flashing things is no small matter but to answer you're questions.
Flashing a rom will replace the default.
It will change kernel, build, etc. The only thing that wont change is you're modem.
If you did install a touchwiz rom. You're most likely going to do everything you do plus more but make sure its based of T-Mobile... they tell you on the first post of roms.
Cm10 is cyanogen mod and they make asop roms. They best way to describe the rom is watch a video of the nexus stock rom.. u will get the jist of it.
For you're data make sure you're on a 4g area my friend. If u are then personally check you're data and make sure 4g is enabled. Still wont woek then maybe flashing the newest modem might work but be very very careful! !!!!
If u install cm10, akop stuff like that people recommend to odin back to your stock. Look up odin if you do not know what that means.
Ok I answered all you're questions
But truly watch out. From reading you're questions it sounds like you are new and want to learn which is good but keep reading and reading before you flash anything dude. Treat this like programming class and you're fighting for that A

You are the man.
What is the full model number of your GS3?
Dude you really look like you won't take advantage of all the rooting capabilities maybe it's best if you don't. Have you ever had 4G? It might be your area, tmobile doesn't cover everything. So custom roms most likely won't improve that, so before you do anything call tmobile and see what's up with that because most likely your paying for a service your not getting. If not then a warranty is in place if they cover it in your area, also let us know if you have mess with some settings in network.

Yes, if you flash a ROM it will delete Cyanogenmod 10. If I were you I would just stick with what you have. Unless you really have to have service mode.

Ok! I understood... Let me see if you could help me again...
I want acess the Service Mode because a found a tutorial teaching how to increase the mic sound.
My Problem is: When I call for another person, they say to me that the sound of my calling is far longe.
I'm using UVMC6 Radio with the noise supress activated.
What do you think?
Thank you!
Embryo doesn't support service codes. Its dialer will allow entry but the display won't work.
I am interested in this as well. It seems to me that there should be a command-line function for this available through a terminal emulator, but I haven't found it.

You can try blocking the microphone on the top of the phone. Or you can flash a different kernel. You have to make sure it is the right kernel for your ROM though.
Direction to the solution
O.K i will give you a direction. hopefully someone will help both of us.
I have the same problem, from my searches that is a known problem at T989.
i found a solution to increase the mic sensitivity, that should be at the phone menu but with CM all the Samsung MMI codes doesn't work.
The only code with CM from what I know is *#*#4636#*#* but I didn't find there a Mic option.
So i looked for a way to change it, and i found that there is a way with the app Android Terminal Emulator, but i didn't find the command that change it (at our phone the number should be changed from 90 to 110).
Maybe there is another way to do it but that what i have found till now...
As i said i hope some one will be able to help both of us because this issue is frustrating
i can't add sources because i'm a new user (my first post).
What ROMs are okay to flash if you have the Knox bootloader. Im so confused about this Knox thing. Ive read if it doesnt change your bootloader you will be fine and others saying i have to wait for a stok mk3 .tar (i do believe thats the right one) file to be available. one dev posted a rooted 4.3 rom and he said this wont mess with the bootloader. im just nervous dont want to brick my phone. someone please help and shed some light on this confusing situation
This should be Q and A section, and Cnexus posted a FAQ about this in general section....

If you want a simple answer, then here it is: you can flash any rom you want.
Only one catch: do not EVER Odin a full stock tar with version < MK3 to your device or you will instantly brick.

The original ROM checks for "know" baseband versions to make sure you dont try flashing the ROM on the wrong device. I had to unpack the ROM, add support for the new baseband and then repack the ROM inorder to get it to install. I also change he kernel cmdline to set SELinux to permissive mode by default (like it was in 4.3). I will post the tweaked ROM shortly.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47987693&postcount=875
.
please note i said ROM INSTALL GUIDE for the M919 ...this is not the actual rom thread.
i take NO CREDIT..all the credit goes to Albe95
reason i am posting this is beacuse i dont see any Note 4 based ports for tmobile development sections and some people may not know but this rom works great on the m919.
here is the thread for the actual rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-develop/rom-albe95-rom-t2967688
HOW TO INSTALL on M919:
***CRITICAL***first make sure that u are on BOTH the nh7 bootloader and modem (u can just odin the tmobile nh7 samsung firmware and it will update everything) if u fail do to do this step then dont be surprised if wifi doesnt work or if u have signal/radio problems.
now make sure u that this rom below works with no problems ..make sure your wifi works, wifi turns on off, and that you can make voice calls and data works via cell carrier.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...stock-base-4-4-4-nh7-rooted-deodexed-t2873695
if everything works previous to this step u can now just install the NOTE 4 port from recovery....just do a full wipe and then install
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-develop/rom-albe95-rom-t2967688
NOTE: i am sure there are other and faster ways to install (such as odining orig fw and flashing recovery, root, wipe and then rom) but this method 100% worked for me...if u try to install it on the M919 any other way the please consider that at that point you are testing on your own and your feedback on a successful install would be nice to help others.
Last but not least be sure to thank Albe95 in his original post for the beautiful rom and all the hard work he put into it.
I think I'm gonna pick a few ROMs in another carrier's S4 forum and reword the OP and post it here in development... I mean, because the installation procedures differ so tremendously from ROM to ROM.

That's awesome and all that he gave you permission and all, but what I'm saying is that I don't understand the need for this post... I would think that this would be more "General" oriented than development oriented, seeing as how you're not the developer, you didn't have a hand in developing (unless you were a tester), and the whole idea of this post is just to advertise someone else's work. Like, instead of posting in development, your post in general could say "I know this topic has been covered many multiple times, but you can flash other carriers ROMS, and speaking of... try THIS one" and be done with it.

i see other HOW TO's and Tutorials in this sections, so i dont see much of the difference. If other HOW TO's and Tuts were in GENERAL then i would of posted this in GENERAL. Would asking for permission to make a zipped updater script on the build.prop for this rom to make it fully tmobile then qualify it for this section...cuz thats all that pretty much has to be done, or would it make a difference if i just told the developer to post it himself in this section would that make u happy? (even tho i got his permission)....end of the day its all pretty close to the same IMO...just a matter of how u look at it. personally i figured its a rom and people looking for roms generally come to check this section and this is a rom that works for tmo. ..u may already know how to do it, but there are many others that dont and i bet can learn from the OP. This site is all about learning and testing, i tested something and it works and i am sharing, isnt that what XDA's about? btw im done ranting with any of your posts, this will be the only one..
I mean, I was just curious. I wonder the same thing on the others, honestly. You know I'm literally a nobody here, I just wanted to ask. Myself, personally, since the majority of the ROMs for other carriers don't require anything special other than adding your own APNs, I just don't see the point of even posting each individual ROM in each carriers development section. Now, if someone makes that ROM specifically catered to a certain carrier, then yeah, post away.. but I would think that just generally having the basic understanding that if you see an S4 ROM in another carriers section, go ahead and flash it. I mean, do what you do,I just wanted to know.
The only downside is that albe changed csc to the European one and WiFi calling doesn't work ?

Make sure you are using the nh7 bootloader and modem read the first post.
I am currently on this rom and it is a really nice Rom love all the Note 4 features, my phone is the T-Mobile S4 SGH-M919 And Wifi Calling does work with this rom I have used it plenty of times.
The only issue I have is that there is no call recording feature and I can't find where to shut off the proximity sensor
other then that it works really well.
Will this ROM work with NK2 modem and boot loader, or does it have to be NH7?

I just flashed the Rom, cleared Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache and Internal, I am on Cricket Wireless, but originally the phone use to be on T-Mobile, all I did was flash the Rom and the update and I can make calls while WiFi is on and Mobile data is off, as far as WiFi calling in the settings, I don't see that, I believe that is a T-Mobile app or bloatware.
Good Luck
