This phone is proving to be a nightmare to return to stock. I have the correct RUU, extracted the rom.zip from it, flashed boot_signed.img & recovery_signed.img and the relocked. I left the phone in hboot like in the video and ran the RUU and it just says error 120, the battery is too low but the battery is at 96%. CID is HTC__621, getvar version-main says 1.29.751.12 and the RUU is called 'RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_Chunghwa_1.29.751.12_Radio_1.1204.107.14_release_261363_signed'. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks.
Unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery ......do a full wipe, also batt stats ! Then relock the bootloader and keep the phone in fastboot usb mode , then run the ruu with admin rights ! Right click the ruu and select it
I've mentioned this before and believe it or not it's worked for at least one other person, no idea why, but it works:
unplug your phone and plug it in to a different USB port on your computer, preferably one in the back (those hard to reach ones, 'cause nothing is easy about going back to stock).
I've tried both suggestions and it still says the battery is lower than 30% even though its above 85%. I tried all three USB ports on my laptop. I've even tried 4 different USB cables, a black HTC one, a white HTC one, my Nexus 7 one and one I got from a dollar store. Never have I wanted to destroy a phone as much as I do now..
Faulty battery .... Nothing i can do about that. Sorry
What if you do
Fastboot getvar all
It gives also the batt stat

Battery Status says good and it says 4080mV.
This sounds stupid.... But.....did you reboot the pc once and then check again. And check if there is a 2.17 ruu available for you and run that one
I didn't. Let me try that.
Same results and its now at 88%. Better Battery Stats reports good battery health as well. Ultimately I just want to tryout the JB Sense ROMS. My CID is HTC__621 so I tried to flash the firmware for my CID but I get a failure message upon that too.
You have a working rom on it ? We can do this without a ruu. Do you have a nandroid backup of the stock rom ? Otherwise we have to check in the nandroid backup thread from Matt95 in the general section. And restore that one

I don't have a Nandroid back up, I bought the phone used already with a custom ROM on it. I've been using ICJ AOKP since I got it but I wanna give the Sense ROMs a test run. Do you have a link to that thread?
Found the thread. There's a JB Nandroid for my CID (HTC__621) but it says I have to have the latest Hboot installed but the firmware won't flash.
Check the rom threads for a rom you would like, only ICS sense roms work on your hboot. Look around and pick one out ....
Download it and put it on the sdcard, copy out the boot.img and place it in your fastboot flash folder.
Put the phone in fastboot usb mode and flash the boot.img
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then enter the recovery and do a FULL wipe then install the rom.zip
I can check tonight if there is a way to get you to stock so you can update to JB. I'm off now .... @ work
I was just running InsertCoin 9.7.0 but I miss the JB features. I restored a Nandroid to ICJ for now. I tried to flash the firmware again and it gave me an error again and I've attached a screenshot of it.
OK, I managed to get it to start flashing the firmware.zip but it said something about flushing the image first. Screenshot attached.
What is that firmware.zip ? if you want to restore the nandroid you have to flash the boot.img that is inside the nandroid backup folder. No need to flash firmwares to restore a nandroid !
Edit : a the firmware to upgrade to a JB hboot, I'm a bit distract here
Did u locked the bootloader before running the upgrade commands ?
I didn't lock the bootloader first. That did it. Thank you so much for all your help.
And now you can also return to stock because there is also a stock nandroid available for you !
CASE CLOSED
Flashed the firmware, flashed the boot in the Nandroid for my CID and restored the Nandroid and it works like a charm. Flashed the stock recovery, relocked the bootloader and got update 3.14.709.20. Now I'm making a Nandroid of it. Thanks again for all your help, Mr Hofs.

Hello, im having trouble getting my hox to stock to apply the new OTA
I didnt install any custom rom, but i unlocked bootloader to install CWM and rooted my phone.
I checked that my version is 2.17.707.3, WWE, unbranded, so i downloaded this file RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.17.707.3_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_278245_signed
The thing is that when i run the RUU, it fails everytime, i tried installing it with android booted, usb debuggin on, using an usb 2.0.. tried booting in bootloader mode using fastbook USB and still failed.
Any ideas?
You need to relock bootloader.
Code:
fastboot OEM lock
And make sure to have battery charged <50% before RUU.

You can also try restoring nanroid backup.
Dont forget to flash boot.img also erase cache.
Then flashing the stock recovery.
No need to lock bootloader.
You can find the nandroid backup thread in general section.
Thanks to all!, i will try that as soon as my phone gets 100% battery

Hi guyz. I have my HTC One X which was carrier branded to optus. i wiped and flashed a stock rom and stock recovery, which took away the optus splash screen and bloatware. I've realised that optus approved of the jellybean update but its not appearing on my phone. also do u need to lock the bootloader for ota updates? also a basic description of why and what android sdk is.
thanks in advance
Its because you have a stock ROM that's based off another region and not the actual Optus stock ROM which you need, the bloat ware and carrier logo at boot up should be present in order to receive OTAs.
What you should do is download the Optus nano droid backup in the general section and restore it to return to stock.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
ok thanks. im downloading the nandroid backup for htc one x jellybean optus from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
is there a way to get stock jellybean sense rom on my device? or remove the splash screen and bloatware after i flash the optus backup
thnx
Yeah... Install one. Mike1986 has a stock JB ROM.
So, after you return to stock and receive the JB update, you'll be ready to install a custom JB ROM.
ok thanks guyz. i got one more question, im getting the stock nandroid jb rom for optus, do i have to update my hboot or anything like that? befor flashing?
UPDATE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970 this is a stock jb rom for one x, can i flash this instead of the jb optus nandroid backup (the hosting site is annoyingly slow). and again do i need to update hboot for this rom, if yes how. thanks
You need a stock rom from Optus and the stock recovery to be able to update the phone. Restore the Optus nandroid, flash the boot.img from the nandroid and flash back the matching stock recovey, then you can update the phone
thats good. but im asking, is it neccessary to update my hboot for the JB optus nandroid backup? and for a stock htc JB rom?
You need to restore the nandroid backup that matches the software number of the phone ! If its 2.17 you should restore the 2.17 Optus nandroid and update officially to JB, the update will take care of flashing the higher hboot to 1.36 or even 1.39. After that you have to flash a custom recovery and flash a custom rom again.
Fastboot getvar version-main
That will say which one you need.you can't just restore the JB nandroid. The hboot has to be updated for JB roms
ok thanks, but i also have the hboot for jelly bean (optus), which i got from here http://d-h.st/users/ClydeB1/?fld_id=8110#files
can i use jelly bean flasher and flash the hboot 1.36. then the JB rom?
the reason why is that i cant find a nandroid for ics optus. so im thinking of any other ways
Yes if the cid matches you can flash the firmware that will bring you to a higher hboot and flash JB roms
I see a Optus 2.17 backup here

Update hboot optus001 manually
Hi i was wondering how you flash the hboot as mentions in the earlier post, I to need optus001 2.17 nandroid backup but cant get it unless link is changed to public.
However it seamed that your work around got u there, I have dowmloaded the hboot 1.36 optus zip & the recovery 5.8.4.0 file, I have also downloaded ARHD 18.1 + boot img.. I'm currently hrunning ARHD 9.7..
So were can i get a hboot flasher compatible with optus001 cid & is this all the stuff i will need & is there any threads that may help walk me thru the process's..
Any help would be great, I seemed to have it down packed till i went back to stock & optus updated my hboot to 1.12 after this my stock ruu wont work & i seem stuck. (Reading threads its clear that if i had restarted my phone one more time the JB update would have been there & all this stress saved)
Kind regards
Clemenator
Get your firmware.zip from the download link in this thread (by ClydeB) your cid is exactly Optus_001 ?
http://d-h.st/mBx
then put the phone in fastboot usb mode, lock the bootloader and follow this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376
You have to flash the firmware.zip with the given commands in the thread.
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash firmware.zip
All this is done with a locked bootloader and the phone in fastboot usb mode.
After the fastboot oem rebootRUU command the phone will restart and stall in a black screen with a silver HTC logo then you perform the firmware flash. Unlock the bootloader again and flash a custom recovery, then you are ready for JB
NOTE : charge the battery before you start !!!

I'm going to update my htc one x to jelly bean from ICS, using custom ROM (ARHD), it was noted that I need a firmware package, and now that I found the package for my CID because took sometime before I found it, is it really required to flash it? TIA
For JB roms you need a JB hboot those are the 1.31 and higher up. Except for the aosp JB roms, those run also on the lower ics hboots.
So if you are on a lower hboot then 1.31 then yes you need to upgrade the hboot
Now I think everything's messed up and I badly need help here, so stupid with I did.
At one moment, my phone is stuck at One tm screen, after I flash the boot.img and installed the custom ROM. I tried to restore my phone using CWM but it still stucked. It was too late before I realized how to flash the firmware package that I need to rename what I downloaded to firmware.zip. I tried flashing the firmware without knowing that I have to relocked my phone before I flash it. Now I relocked my phone and I'm stucked with hboot and I can't do anything at the moment.
With it relocked. In fastboot do
fastboot oem rebootRUU (note the capitals)
Your phone will then reboot into a black screen with the HTC logo.
Then do fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Once completed fastboot reboot-bootloader
It will reboot into bootloader
Then unlock and flash recovery again.
Flash boot image and reinstall ROM and you should be good to go

Cannot load "firmware.zip" always shows up. My CID is HTC_044, and as far as I know I downloaded the correct firmware package for my phone according to ARHD forum. Thanks in advance.
Did you have the firmware.zip in your fastboot folder?
Yes. And I downloaded it 3 times just to make sure it is the right firmware.
Oh and sometimes you need to flash it 3 or 4 times to succeed. I had to do the command 3 times when I flashed my firmware.
So try it multiple times in a row.

Sorry but I tried several times and "error: cannot load 'firmware.zip' all the time. What could be the problem?
During at work. I thought if is it possible just to return to stock ROM? But I just can't find the proper RUU yet.
cid: htc_044
version-main: 1.29.707.11
I'm currently charging my phone using the batch file I found here in xda. I saw a lot of posts regarding flashing the current version of CWM so you can charge your battery, I think my CWM is in version 5.8.1.0, and as far as I know you have to unlock your hboot before you can flash recovery, so it's impossible for me to flash 5.8.4.0? Am I correct here or I can just proceed to the other steps?

Yes ! If you can't get enough power with the batt script you can flash the latest cwm recovery and charge the battery in there to 100% if you want to.
Unlock the bootloader first if it is still locked

I was done in re-unlocking my bootloader, but then I still can't flash cwm recovery because it says low battery, then I tried to use the batt script again and of course it cannot work since I just re-unlocked my bootloader.
I never tried it with a unlocked bootloader, have you tried it ?
Yes, I tried it and it doesn't work.
What I did for the past hours, I tried to restore my phone again using cwm recovery, still nothing changed, still stucked at htc one logo, then I turned it off trying to charge it using the main charger and it does have light in its LED, left it for a while and now it doesn't turn on.
Try it with phone connected to the pc, it seems to make a difference sometimes....and if you are capable again to run the bat script then leave it for 2.hours or so !
Now it's working. The first time I used the batt script, I thought it could charge more than 3681mV but It didn't work as it didn't get higher than 3681mV. I HOPE it's enough just to flash the cwm recovery. Thanks Mr Hofs, will update asap.

Well i would go with the nandroid backup (the one with from the last link) get your nandroid backup from there matching your MAIN number .... 2.17.771
You unzip the nandroid backup to the phone (read the OP to where exactly) then you flash the boot.img from that nandroid (located in the folder) and perform a full wipe in the custom recovery and restore the nandroid, boot it once to check the phone runs as new...all Oke, flash back the stock 2.17 recovery and reboot the phone and check for software updates.
And as for the firmware flash, the thread could not have typed it out better.....you need the part that says NAND H3G__106......
All the commands are in there and the links too

Well, thanks! I'll try it in the evening.
A last question: After doing the nandroid backup and firmware flash my HBOOT will be 1.39, am I correct?
Yes you are going to hboot 1.39.
But keep one thing in mind, only do one of the options. If you go for the nandroid backup you do not have to do the firmware flash......when you restore the nandroid backup completely including the boot.img and stock recovery you check in settings - about - softwareupdates for the official OTA and install that. The OTA will flash the hboot automatically and will update the software to JB

And if not, I think I have to unlock the phone again and do that stuff to flash a custom rom?
Ai i can't answer your first question, never encountered that before .... as for the second question, with a nandroid backup you do not have to relock the bootloader. So after the updating process you flash back the custom recovery and flash a new JB rom.

Yes ofcourse .... do a nandroid of the rom you are running now and after that you restore the stock nandroid backup.
Don't forget to flash the boot.img again when you return to the old one
Well,
I tried the nandroid backup from this thread but I only get some md5 checksum errors...
Then I tried it twice with the backup from here but here I get sometimes a black screen (display is ON) after the htc logo and sometimes it goes past the black screen and comes to the screen where you see "HTC ONE BEATS AUDIO" and there it gets stuck.
I also did a full wipe every time before doing the backup and I also flashed the boot.img from the backup
Any ideas? :/

Uh, my bad I'll try it again in the evening ^^ Thanks for helping a poor noob
status update ^^
Used the backup from here, searched for OTA update (got one), tried to install it. Phone switched into recovery and I got some errors. Looked it up in google, found this site and removed this part
Code:
assert(check_cid(getprop("ro.cid"), "00000000" , "11111111" , "22222222" , "33333333" , "44444444"
, "55555555" , "66666666" , "77777777" , "88888888" , "99999999" , "HTC_……);
After this I was able to install the update (in recovery, using "install zip from sdcard"). After the update the phone reboots and gets stuck on the HTC logo. Hboot is still on 1.12. Now I used my old backup cause I need the phone tomorrow again. Any ideas how to get the update fully working? :/
cheers ^^
Then i guess the update fails because you need a backup matching your cid too !
Because the nandroid backup was for another cid (O2 and orange backups where compatible with different cids)
You can try to only perform the firmware flash to update the hboot and then flash a JB custom rom after that.
Mh, okay. Then I'll try it with a firmware update. But I am a little bit confused because when I deleted the part with assert(check_cid(...)) etc. I saw my CID, H3G__106, in this part.

Hmm okey, well i can't shine a light on that im afraid, but if the nandroid fails (who said that the nandroid is 100% stock anyway, we believe the uploader on that ) your best chance is with the direct firmware flash
Am I right that I have to do it with this manual? And do I have to install at first this stock backup or can I flash the firmware directly on my acutal ROM?
1) go into fastboot and enter "fastboot oem lock" - the device will reboot
2) go into fastboot again and enter "fastboot oem rebootRUU" - there will be a black screen with a silverish HTC logo
3) enter "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip" (you need the firmware.zip from page 1 for this)
3a) enter the same again, the green bar under the logo should go to 100% (either after the first or second time)
4) enter "fastboot reboot-bootloader" to go back to your fastboot
5) unlock your device again with the unlock code ("fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin")
6) Restore your old boot.img (fastboot flash boot name_of_boot_file.img) and recovery (fastboot flash recovery name_of_recovery_file.img), make sure you copied them from the nandroid backup folder we created earlier into the folder that contains the fastboot.exe you're using.
(7) Reboot and you should now have Hboot 1.39 with your old boot and recovery.
(8) If it won't work we still have the backup ready to restore the old system, Hboot isn't changeable right now on S-ON devices outside of the RUU routine - so even if you restore your nandroid you should still have Hboot 1.39 now)

Uhm well......does that rom needs a modified boot.img for the higher hboots maybe ? Just like the CM10. I would try it first with a full sense JB rom to make sure that everything works as it should, or try CM10.1 ?
Did you checked that the hboot is actually upgraded ?
Or could this have something to do that you unlocked it from the carrier ?

Thanks mate. the restore worked and I was able to get the phone back working. Now to do some backups
I had previously been trying to restore to stock in order to bring it back to the shop under warranty (yellow/brown patch on screen on top right).
Thanks
Mick

Just trid that to version 1-28 I think and I'm getting the dreaded red triangle
I thought that was a clean versio so maybe something else is wrong. Any ideas?
Uhm wait .... You flashed back a 1.28 stock recovery on a 3.14 rom. That's not going to work.
And what is your goal now actually after the restore ?
And where do you get a red triangle ? When you boot up the phone or when you try to enter the stock recovery ?
When you enter a stock recovery there will always be a warning sign like you describe, we are not supposed to go in there
This is a stock 3.14 recovery

OK, I have now flashed 3.14 and booted into it. first time around it showed the normal icon for a while and then restored my system. Second time around when I booted into recovery is shows the red triangle over the image of a screen. Flashing CWM seems to be ok.
bootloader version: 1.36.0000
version-main: 3.14.161.27
cid: has changed to VODAP001
Should I startt again from the nandroid?
My aim is to fully restore the phone to stock and then lock it before I bring it back to the shop for hardware repair on the yellow/brown patch.
Does the phone boot up properly ?
I don't know if there is a nandroid that also matches your cid ?
Fastboot oem readcid
Will tell the real cid.
Do that and we check if there is one actually available.

yep, it boots ok into wwm (after reflash) and into the main system but not into recovery if I flash stock.
I can make calls etc and everything seems normal.
Only software issue now seems to be that I can't flash stock recovery successfully
So when you flash the stock recovery the phone does not boot ?
Oke give the cid with the command, lets check that out
Crap....you wrote it in the title....overread it all the way !!!
I have an idea that might work !
Get the nandroid 2.17.161 vodap 001 and restore that one completely !
Then flash back this recovery

Then boot up the phone and update with official ota.
It worked before with and O2 nandroid .... Its worth a shot mate

Phone itself works with stock recovery but it won't boot into stock recovery itself without red triangle.
I've just been trying to change the cid with "fastboot oem writecid VODAP019" but I keep gettin either "too many links" or "unknow error". Itried tried but with the phone locked and unlocked :crying:
I'll keep trying to see if that will let me flash the stock recovery successfully and boot into it.
Mick
Hahaha that's the trick, the stock recovery is supposed to give you that warning sign ! That is absolutely normal. When you see that triangle screen you press volume - and power and it should enter the stock recovery. (Could also be volume +, can't recall it in my mind atm)
And you can't write a cid, we need S-OFF to do that .....

immediately follwed by the main system update as expected
Yeah that's because the stock recovery can't mount it, the error is also normal. There is not much to do with the stock recovery.....
If the updates go well you het back the original stock JB rom and cid back !
Is it working .... the updates ?

Hi, the updates took a long time to download. Everything is now working and back to stock.
Thanks for all your help and patience.
Mick
Good ! Hope you get the fix sorted too
CASE CLOSED !
Sorry for reviving an old thread. But this one seems closest to what I'm stuck on, so hopefully someone can help.
I was running a viperX rom on my htc one X for quite sometime, after updating the rom it was working fine but all of a sudden it stopped picking up any mobile network. Stupidly I deleted everything from recovery (cache, data on the sd card, the android OS, everything!). - No backup unfortunately.
I read about going back to stock, re-locked the bootloader and attempted to install via an RUU. My HTC One X is exactly the same as the one by mccmick, running 3.14.161.27 of the HTC software. Can't find an RUU for it anywhere.
But what do I do now? It ran out of battery, so I used command prompt to get the phone to change a little bit, then re unlocked the bootloader using hasoon2000's tool kit and installed the lastest version of CWM recovery so the phone can charge via mains.
There is no root access on the phone at the moment, can't access the internal sd card to put any ROM or superSU files on there. Mounting the sdcard for usb use via recovery does not work.
How do I resolve? I can't put a nondroid backup to the phone. Ideally I would like to go back to stock, but even if I can just install a rom and get everything working again, I'd be very happy.
Is there any command prompts I can use to send files over to the phone? Send a kernel, rom and root files over?
Should mention my phones cid is VODAP001 and running 3.14.161.27.
