[Q] Samsung keyboard missing Japanese IME on N7100? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Samsung keyboard default doesn't support Japanese IME on Galaxy Note 2 N7100 so I wonder if I can install addition pack or flash a cook ROM to make the Jap IME available ?
I know I can install another keyboard which supports Jap but I don't like it because it's inconvenient for switching keyboard every time.
Thank you.

Japanese has its own stock samsung keyboard separate from the Regular Stock keyboard. You'll need to get that apk and then get the necessary libs for it. Its annoying thats for sure.

If you haven't tried ATOK お試し版, it might be worth it even if you have to switch keyboard from time to time. You can take the trial for a spin.
There are a few other keyboards in my sig, to consider and play around with.

I'm not sure if all of them are actually necessary or not, but that's what got iWNN (called "Samsung Japanese Keypad" in the UI) and MazeC (for handwriting) working on my US (TMobile) Note2. The voice recognition will fail with a SIM card error unless you have a Docomo SIM (so go into the settings and change voice input to Google Voice - I'm not sure how well that works), and I don't think this gets emoji working (it probably wouldn't work anyway outside Japan).
The process to get them was a bit involved. I had to untar the tar file, then run sim2img on the system.img and cache.img... then after mounting both, in the cache partition, there is a file recovery/sec_csc.zip. Most of the files I listed above are in the system partition, but the rest need to be extracted from that zip file. Then you can put them in place with a root file manager or adb.... If that sounds like too much work, maybe I can zip the the files up (not a flashable zip) and post them here.
Besides that, I'm a bit surprised by the lack of integration compared to the built in keyboard, especially with the multiwindow (it doesn't detach like the builtin keyboard). Also, you'll have to switch back to the "Samsung Keyboard" to get the sliding input or decent English handwriting recognition. So, I'm not sure if I actually missed anything and it or maybe that's just how it works.
The theming/colors also won't match what you see in the videos - it's more gray like the default keyboard on US Note2, while it appears to be blue in the youtube videos I found.

Thank you for your hard work in testing and posting here but I am afraid that's not what I am looking for, I need the Japanese IME integrated right into Samsung Keyboard then I can just slide to change the IME right away without needing effort to switch keyboards. For that mazec Japanese handwriting we can just purchase from Google Play if needed, no need to flash the JAP ROM.
Moreover, I tested Mazec's trial version. Mazec handwriting is good, but IMO it's not as good as the handwriting of Samsung keyboard compared to what I've been using with English and Chinese handwriting.
But anyway, I really appreciate your kindness in testing and reporting :good:.

Basically you can't integrate Japanese into the stock Samsung keyboard, at least not yet. It seems to have a different IME on all phones, at least in my experience.
If/when Swiftkey add Japanese to their language packs then it might get added to the Samsung Keyboard as well.
If you want all your languages in one keyboard you'll have to resort to using Swype or Smart Keyboard Pro.

Why does when Swiftkey add Japanese to their language packs then it might get added to the Samsung Keyboard as well ? These apps are made by the same developer ?
Yes, I am using Swype but the reason I love Samsung keyboard more because their handwriting is the best one IMO.

The current Samsung keyboard uses the swiftkey api/dictionaries/prediction engines whatever they call it I believe.
And swiftkey doesn't have a Japanese input method yet. So I guess I'm making the assumption that when that gets updated then you'll see Japanese added for the Samsung keyboard too.

Just notice that you're from Japan. So could you tell which keyboard app you're using to type and handwrite Japanese ?

Honestly I don't do much handwriting as my character drawing is terrible! As regards keyboards try what has been recommended. I use either the stock Samsung Japanese keyboard or swype for ease of switching when typing.

Add Japanese locale?
I too have a Galaxy Note 2 and I'm bemoaning the lack of Asian languages on it.
I'm not bothered by having to install a third party Japanese IME as I don't type in Japanese much. What I really want is to be able to switch the device language to Japanese (and/or Korean actually) just as I can switch it to French etc, for testing purposes. I'm not even that bothered about whether a few glitches and so on happen; I just want to be able to test application localization on one device!
Is there a way to make the 7100 act as if it's Japanese, such that apps use jp resources and so on?

For localization, I think you are looking for "Language Enabler" ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wanam ), which should work on any (rooted) Samsung device. Just open it up, select the languages you want, save and reboot.
Although Korean was in the default list on my phone.

It enables just those in system language but still doesn't have input method of languages.

Stock to AOSP
Has this been tried on a non-stock rom?
I assume you are working with a stock Samsung rom and taking the files from the Japanese rom into the english version, but I may be wrong.
I would like to explore the possibility of doing this from a stock-japanese to an AOSP or cyanogenmod.
What METHOD did you use to identify these files? It would be of great help. I seriously want to use the mazec that came with my original rom into this cyanogenmod that I am using.
Thanks~~

I'm hoping for an answer to this too. I'm using Assassin ROM and would like to get the Stock Japanese Keyboard and Mazec Handwriting on my Note 2. I wasn't able to crack open the pure stock Docomo image I found online, but I was able to extract most of those files from a zip that Robobob1221 pointed me to. I can't find 3 of the apks in yubimusubi's list:
system/app/DcmVoiceSearch.apk
system/app/DcmVoiceEditor.apk
system/app/DcmVoiceRecognition.apk
I'll see for myself soon enough, but wondering if anyone knows up front whether those files are necessary.

Seems most of the files from yubimusubi's post may not be completely necessary, but that may still be a bit premature to say.
I've only copied the fonts, VODB folders, Maruberi, iWnnIME_T0, Mazec apks and the following lib files to my system directory:
system/lib/libiwnn.so
system/lib/libmazecdict.so
system/lib/libMazecJpnDic.so
system/lib/libMazecRecJpnDicA.so
system/lib/libMazecRecJpnDicB.so
system/lib/libMazecRecJpnDicC.so
system/lib/libMazecRecJpnDicD.so
system/lib/libMazecRecognizer.so
So far, Mazec handwriting works (!!), the English keyboard of the Samsung Japanese Keyboard works, numbers keyboard works, and symbols/emoticons work. The only problem I'm having now is getting the Japanese part of the keyboard to work. When I press a key, the keyboard freezes. Gonna try and figure out which of the other libs might help.
But so far it seems that the voiceeditor.so files aren't necessary. But then again, I don't use voice recognition or anything, so I'm not sure.
UPDATE: I didn't want to hijack the thread, so I started one here. I managed to get the hiragana and katakana input working, but I seem to have broken the ability to change kana to kanji and now the kanji. Everything seems to work fine! If you're interested in what files I used, please check the other thread.

Alright, for WWE rom of X1, download and install Ce-Star 2.8c, brought you by Mobem. While installing, do not tick any SIP comes with the software. After installation, reboot, install either "PlumSIP V6.1" or "sogou Pinyin for mobile". for plumsip supports hard keyboard while sougou pinyin supports vast words of popular. they all comes with PinYin style of inputing. for handwriting style, use which comes with CE-Star as "手写输入".
Thanks guys, the only problem now is how to stop plumsip from changing my font. It changes it to this Times New ROman like font and makes certain things, like smses very small. Tried to change back to tahoma in xperiatweak but it doesnt work

[MOD] Samsung Japanese iWnnIME input for i9000. (MKA5)

Now that there are a few Japanese i9000 stock roms floating around I had a chance to nab the iWnnIME files. They seem to work reasonably well on JPY.
Installable with CWM2 recovery.
Install - http://www.multiupload.com/NMHY05PXJG
Remove - http://www.multiupload.com/YVR695BWY5
Installable with CWM3:
Install - http://www.multiupload.com/ZFJJC5UUTI
Gingerbread Info:
* Tested and seems to work without issue on Gingerbread. Does seem a little laggy though.
* Install with a CWM Kernel or drop the files in yourself. (Voodoo Experimental)
Updates:
* 20/04/11 CWM3 compatible install added.
* 29/03/11 Tested and working on Gingerbread JVK.
* 30/01/11 Updated using the latest firmware for the sc-02b (MKA5). Actually all the files I believe are exactly the same, no change in file sizes.
* 16/01/11 Incorrectly was copying libemoji.so and libemoji_docomo.so. Both are already in JPY.
* Added removal mod.

There's an app called Morelocale 2 that'll let you set Japanese as your language
This works perfect with JPY.
Thanks so much.

Yes. That is good to make your phone have Japanese menus or compatible display. However, there is a problem with SMS'es that corrupts the text when an sms is sent from an Android phone without native Japanese language support to a Japanese domestic phone. Phones like the iPhone or Sony Ericsson X10 have native Japanese support and sms in japanese works.
Tested this Samsung iwnnime with JP locale on an international i9000 and still got corrupted.
So we are missing something that makes it truely native

Just sent an SMS in Japanese from my i9000 to my girlfriend's Japanese iPhone 3G and then one back to my phone in Japanese.
No text corruption or otherwise. I'm not using a Japanese locale though, so perhaps it's an issue with that.

Hong Kong.
Hm the issue occurs with both Locale on and off for me. But from the japanese phone it is ok.
One quick question. You have updated the zip today.
Should I uninstall the previous one and install new one?
Or just installing the new one will replace all?
Appreciate your advice.

No need to. The old one was copying two libs that were already present on the i9000. Just removed those from the zip.

Champ that worked !
Japanese Locale.
Ok,
After much hunting around, I grabbed the framework.jar and framework-res.apk from JL6 and popped them on my i9000.
This will let you set Japanese as your Locale. It's probably worse than the market downloadable option.
* Notes *
- At your own risk! It shouldn't break anything that a reflash can't fix, but still always beware!
- It's a bit spotty. It's mostly Japanese. It seems to depend on if the app was written to include Japanese localisation. For example, JPY Settings.apk is not in Japanese, but if you upload JL6 Settings.apk it is. (Not sure what you'd lose out of that )
- Probably not 100% compatible with themes/battery mods. (It overwrote my gingerbread statusbar but kept my lockscreen).
* Install *
1. Boot CWM Recovery.
2. Apply jl6-jp-fw.zip
3. Wipe Dalvik Cache/Cache partition.
4. Reboot & Wait. (Phone will rebuild cache).
* Remove *
Same steps, use jpy-fw.zip
* Settings.apk *
JL6 Settings.apk also included if you want to test it. Back up your old one and put the new one in /system/app/
* Downloads *
jl6-jp-fw.zip - http://www.multiupload.com/FZZ9LFDZZU
jpy-fw.zip - http://www.multiupload.com/HLOMAKRU7S
Settings.apk - http://www.multiupload.com/ECKELMO4F1
Something odd I also noticed, if you switch to the JL6 framework, set Japanese, then switch back to JPY it'll stay in Japanese. (Assuming you don't change the locale again).
Not sure how long it'd last for though.

I have no idea. I don't have a tab and I'm not sure on what the differences are between the two in terms of OS.
It's nothing that a reflash shouldn't be able to fix if worst case it won't even turn on.
Realistically it's a few libraries and apk. I'd backup those files if they're already present on the tab before you attempted it though.

[Q] Bluetooth keyboard in 2 languages

Hi
If somebody has physical keyboard connected via Bluetooth to XOOM please check is it possible somehow to use 2 different languages on it. And how to switch between it.
Normally I use 2 virtual keyboard English and Russian one, but I'm thinking to buy Motorola Bluetooth keyboard to type letter and etc. I know that on Moto keyboard only English alphabet, but it's easy to make engraving on it to have 2 languages, so I need only to check is it working or not.
As I know original Moto keyboard somehow could have only English language (even when you set language strictly to russian. The on screen keyboard will show Russian keyboard, but when you will touch the physical keyboard it automatically just types the English letters). So is it possible to change somehow?
Which virtual keyboard you're using for Russian? I've tried SmartKeyboard Pro, but the layout is not that good...

I use standard virtual Honeycomb keyboard)) But know I prefer to use bluetooth keyboard
I figured out how to use native keyboard after posting
I believe the regular keyboard will work once we figure out how to set Locale to Russian as well. I know Russian is supported by Honeycomb, but by default only English and Spanish are the options. Anyone knows how to enable other locales?
Tablet keyboard
i use an on screen r virtual kwyboard on my zoom that i downloaded from the market. it is call "Tablet Keyboard" made by "Pretty Easy" ther isa free onethat i tested out and it was great. it has an option to use a full keyboard or it split the keyboad in half with one half on the left for the left tumb, and the other half on the right. it also works in connection with the build in keyboard onmy zoom. so there always the option in th lower right hand near the time where you can switch between the two keyboards if you like. you do have to check the boxx in keyboard setting to make it active. i think they even have a paid version for only ¢99.

I know such app, but I'm trying to find answer is it possible to connect Bluetooth keyboard to Motorola XOOM and use it with 2 languages. Like it's possible in virtual. Right know I got answer from Motorola support that their Bluetooth keyboard support only English language, also I got the same reply form one of the owner of such keyboard.
Now I'm trying to find solution to print on 2 languages English and Russia from any Bluetooth keyboard that could be connect to Motorola XOOM.

Try this:
Select Russian virtual keyboard as input and start typing on Bluetooth keyboard. I think it should type in Russian... But I don't have a keyboard to try it. Mine should be here in a few days, I'll give it a shot.

One owner of Moto keyboard and XOOM tired and told. Even if you have only one language Russian, the Moto Bluetooth keyboard still type on the English language(
But if you will get it, try to click SHIFT+CTRL or SHIFT+ALT (if you have such keys on the keyboard), may be it will recognize it. I read somewhere that Moto keyboard support hot command like CTRL+C or V to copy and past command. So may be it will change language of keyboard like a normal PC.
Thank you in advance.

Swype 3.25 works

I've been hoping for something like Swype for a while, and now with the 3.25 beta it works on my A43. Now, if only it had a hexagonal ATOMIK layout instead of that silly QWERTY one! (But there are patent issues with the ATOMIK layout.)
Yeah, it also works on the 101 now.
Only problem:
The language settings don't show all languages that are listed as supported in the offical resoulution / language table.
As an example, German is missing. (Don't know about all others)

I have swype on my HTC Legend phone.
I think swype on a A101 is difficult.
I use the multiling-keyboard which has 'big' keys for easy touch.
hmmm
im not really a fan of swype
ive downloaded flex t9 and i use that on all my devices
it does have swype like abilities but i feel its better
just my opinion
I used swipe but found swiftkey better for me. Use on both SGS & 101
Just intalled it on my 101... REALLY liking this new version (wasn't a big fan of the older version).
Is it supposed to be centered like that and not taking up the whole screen, or is that just a problem on our devices?
Either way, seems to be working very welll!
Using thumb keyboard loving it

Yes, German is missing. Strangely some people in German forums got it working anyway. Don't know how they did it.

Want IME Japanese input on Jelly Bean Rom

I live in Japan and own a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I'm running on the Docomo network.
I've rooted my phone. I have Android 4.0.4.
I started to check out the different ROMS and decided to use the Jelly Bean ROM I found on galaxynexusroot.com called:
aokp-jelly-bean-rom-build-1-for-galaxy-nexus-gsmverizonsprint
2 problems so far, the first and main problem for me is that there is no longer a choice to use the IME Japanese keyboard that came with my GNEx. I need this keyboard because I have email in Japanese. I've seen some apps, but the inability to change to kanji characters makes them useless for me.
The second problem, when I go into my contacts so that I can sync my gmail to it and get all my contacts back on, it won't. It will say that it can't make a secure connection and it will stop. I can run it fine when creating it in the settings area, but that won't allow me to import my contacts.
I am new, I have checked, but I have a feeling there aren't many Japanese users on here. Hopefully I'm wrong...
There are plenty of Japanese IMEs in the market I'm sure, I know Google has one of their own. What do you mean about the inability to change to kanji? That doesn't make sense, Japanese IME without kanji would be useless, the Google IME shows kanji being input in the screenshots.

I saw a few of the IME applications and the remarks made that it was useless for the users since there was an inability to change from hiragana to kanji. I just saw the Google version and I'll see how well that works on my stock ROM where I already have a Japanese IME that comes with the ROM (Does that make sense, I'm still getting use to this). Several languages were available in the Jelly Bean ROM but none were Japanese. I'd like it if it were available right there in the ROM. I guess I'm just not sure if this is something creators of new ROMS remove or if it's something that has to be placed in.
Yeah, the CJK IMEs are part of localized ROMs but they aren't in the ROMs that come with US phones so that's probably why they aren't in most custom ROMs. It makes sense too, the IMEs take up space. I use Google's Pinyin input for Chinese, but I wouldn't want the Japanese IME taking up space on my phone since I wouldn't have a use for it.
Using Google's one. I don't like the design but it works really well, especially with people and places' names.
BTW, Google translate supports hand writing for Japanese. Might come handy sometimes, but you need internet for that.
