Any ideas why Google now on the JellyBean update don't show cards? It's just a voice search, unlike Google now on my Galaxy Tab 2 running Cyanogenmod?

Also, i believe the cards only show up when relevant. On my nexus a 'weather card' only shows certain times a day if i dismiss the card. So just bare in mind that the card function only works when relevant i think.
mine is not talking just showing card, i already downloaded the locale select and set the language to english US, but when i go to settings>language&keyboard>system language. there's no English US. is it possible to install english US? because my phone only have english for asian countries.
Mine works like a charm

Does the "send text to" or "listen to" functionality work? I can't get these to work. However the maps/ directions / call functionality does work for me.
Rooted official Froyo
I managed to get it downloaded and working via Appbrain
Woo hoo. Also got it but text and email options not working? Anyone got this working?

"Send text to" works fine. "Listen to" or "set alarm" don't though. The HTC apps need to be updated to support it

Does this give us bluetooth voice dialling by a roundabout route?
It won't install on my desire. Pays froyo rom.

Yes. I can press the button and say "Call Buster" and it does a quick countdown followed by dialling that number. Haven't tried with bluetooth but I assume it would.
I guess the problem is that you still have to press a button, but it is a move forward

Nice one!!!! Works much better. Which music apps support it?
Found answer: Pandora, Last.fm, mspot, spotify and Rdio according to the website

Have you worked out how to pick which music app you want? I have the standard music app, Spotify and Last.fm and it keeps defaulting to Last.fm.
Once the language is set in settings to English US it becomes infinitely more useful. Probably getting about 90% accuracy with complete random results. Test emails, texts, calling the chicken shop across the road from where I live, the closest McDonald's to where I live, and even my work place. All flawlessly! Very impressed.
I don't have English US in Settings>Language - just UK and Ireland
Edit - however I do in Settings> Voice Input and Output - is that what you mean?
Edit 2 - yes, that changes it.

Oooh. Changing to English US made all the difference. I was on English UK and it wouldn't recognise "text" and "email" commands. Now it's great! Remember to block offensive words unless you specifically need to swear because even the most innocent of texts ended up with an f-word or two. Not exactly what I was expecting but anyhow
Did you guys get it to work on the Jelly Bean leak? Mine is set to English US but the voice search won't show any fancy card, just a regular web search =/
Try restarting your device.
i have got the same problem...
restart didnt work for me
same for me... it only shows google results. no cards. if i ask for upcoming appointments it googles...
how do i enable those functions? i tried restarting. turning sync off and on... nothing helped..

There is no Google Now app...?

Set the Devices global language to "English (United States)".
That is the one in the main settings not the "Google Now" ones (Settings->Language & input).
The other voice/input language options can be whatever you want.
You should be able to tell if it worked as the Google Search should now have mountains as a background images rather than just being blank, and in the Google Now app's settings the first option should show up as "Google Now" not "Now Cards".
You might need to set the weather back to Celsius in the weather card options.
Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to get a decent voice when I as "What's the weather like" rather than a horrible electronic one?
Thanks
Google now bug
Ive seen many posts about this problem. Mine is fine on Team liquid vicious v2 with franco kernel 200. I have just the weather and I will see how it recognizes what tiles to place. I wish i could just place sports teams without it having to auto recognize google searchs.. oh well still cool.

It seems a fair few people are having issues configuring Google Now to give them the smooth female voice, images in the search content and the ability to send texts, set alarms etc.
Follow this tutorial and you should be sorted in no time.
The problem is that the phones native language should be set to US English, and the Google Now search needs to be configured to use google.com
Configuring Android Language
Go to Settings
Language & input
Language
English (United States)
Downloading Language Packs
Go to Settings
Language & input
Google voice typing (settings)
Download offline speech recognition
English (United States)
Configure Voice Search
Go to Settings
Language & input
Voice Search
Language
English (United States)
Configure Text-to-speech
Go to Settings
Language & input
Tech-to-speech output
Google Text-to-speech (settings)
Language
English (United States)
Configure Google Now
Go to Google Now
Settings
Privacy and accounts
Tick box for "Search on google.com"
Note: If you are in a Google Apps domain (rather than gmail.com/etc.), you will need to enable this feature as an administrator:
Google Apps Control Panel -> Settings -> Mobile -> Org Settings.
Click the checkbox beside "Enable Google Now." for the "organization" which should have access to the service.
(thanks to Rob Boek for pointing this out).

Now you should be all good to go. Give it a try and let me know
No "search on google.com" (even though it does it automatically for me) in privacy and accounts settings. Just Manage location settings, location and google search, show recent searches, and manage web history...

Interesting.. Not sure on that one. Take it you're in the US
I can't seem to download any language pack for the voice recognition. I see many languages listed but they keep failing to download. Is it because I'm not in the US?

Language pack for UK downloaded fine for me, however it does seem to take an unusually long amount of time (~10 mins)
Well seeing that there's a country besides each language, I figured that I can't download any because I'm not in any of them...

Thank you so much for this information! I can now add alams and send texts. I cannot get it to open applications though, no biggie!
Thanks again
EDIT : One last thing, it now thinks that I am living in the US and automatically gives me forecasts for Washington. I have to say "Weather forecast in Swansea" to get my location. Any way of changing this?

They are all on, it still gives me information for US though.
If I select "search on google.com" it gives me US results, if I un-tick it, it gives results for my location
Please forgive me, I have searched but 'Google Now' isn't a great search term...
Basically, I get no voice feedback when using voice search or the Google Now app on my 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update. Initially I was underwhelmed by Google Now and wondered what the fuss was, until I discovered it should be talking back to me in a Siri-like fashion.
I had the leaked 4.1 I/O release previously and same issue. Language is English and I have voice prompts turned on in the search settings.
Any ideas? It's a Google stock ROM and it never worked, so I really don't know what it could be.
Edit: Nevermind, same discussion here. Too bad there's no time-limited delete functionality here, feel free to delete.
Try this
There is my solution:
- Set your locale to whatever you want
- Set the Google Now Voice Language to English US
- Voice Output to Always
- Remove the tick(untick the box) on Hide Offensive Words
I spent hours of tinkering with this and tried all kinds of options, but in the end that solved it for me. This is because recently there was an update to Google Search, which is the application designation for Google Now and it introduced this bug.
I have my locale to my native one English UK en-GB and everything works like a charm as it should be and as it used to work before the update.

Make sure that you have downloaded the offline speech recognition in English US and maybe try asking something like "What's the time?". It will not talk back to all questions. Only the ones that were specifically pre-programmed. If it still doesn't work, try putting your system locale to English US and restarting your phone. And most importantly update your Talkback, Google Search and Google Voice search apps to their latest through the Play Store.
What I did now officially works on my O2 HTC One S and 3UK HTC One X, so it works for sure on those two.
I hope this helps
Hey guys, I can't seem to find an answer to this and I'm on a prepaid plan with 200mb, so my options are limited. I bought my GSM gnex from Google in the US. All of the language settings are English/US. I am in France now. If I try to do a Google search, everything is in french and I can see no option to change it. Even the Google play store is in French now, and I can see no option to change it. Help!

Wouldn't it be under default languages?
Under language and input, everything is set to US English. As I said, I bought this and have used it in the US with no problem. Now that I'm visiting France, the web browser and play store seem to default to french without asking, and there doesn't seem to be an option for me to change this. Even regular Google searches come back french. Everything else on my phone is still in English.

Odd. I'm in the Netherlands but my gnex is on English(US). Play store, Google now and search are all in English.
Wish I could help but I have taken my Nexus to a couple of non-English speaking countries and while searches and the Play Store are customized according to region, it never changed language for me. For searches, you could try going into settings> accounts> Google> search and then tick the last box to force your phone to use google.com rather than the local domain. I don't know how you could change the Play Store language though.

I guess that's what I meant. All of my searches are customized for french, and even the play store apps now have french descriptions. Its kind of hard to search for tourist information in France when all of my search results are in french no matter how many times I try to redirect to Google.com instead of Google.fr.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Update: that last tip did the trick. Chrome still shows french results but the main browser is now in English. I guess I can wait until I get home to read play store app update descriptions. Thanks.
