I've become very annoyed with the fact the stock (JB) TW email app will not allow me to drill down to sub folders within my exchange inbox. Am I missing something here? I know you can do this easily with the (JB) AOKP version. How difficult is it to remove the TW email app and install the AOKP Email and Exchange Services found here in this repository thread?

Just follow the instructions. Quite simple and if it doesn't work, simply restore from your nandroid backup.

Ah yes. I guess I should have mentioned my device is not currently rooted. So I'm assuming in order to do this I would need to root.

Umm to replace a system app, I believe so. You can try ES files explorer but I'm pretty sure you'll need root rights.

Yes you will need to be rooted to remove a system app. Titanium Backup can do this. And why not use the gmail app?
Try K-9 email client from market. Best I've ever tried

There has to be a way to view all sub-folders with the stock TW email app, right? This can't be real..

By sub folders I mean, separate folders within the Inbox folder.
Im a heavy exchange user and the stock app works fine. In fact I even have my sub folders pushing which the phone alerts me whenever a new message arrives.
If you can't access your sub folders then you have something set up wrong.

I have the stock rom rooted on my phone.. I need to have multiple exchange email accounts setup on my phone, which sense email doesn't allow, but vanilla android does. I have the vanilla email.apk, can i just push it to /system/apps and have it work correctly or is there somethign else that i need to do? sorry if this an easy/stupid question, but this is the first time i will be pushing anything into the system folder and want to make sure i know what I'm doing. Thanks in advance.
you could push the stock email app, or just use K9 Mail, which is based on the stock mail app.
what rom are you using.

I tried pushing it to system/app , and it pushed fine and i was able to setup my mail account, but it wouldn't automatically sync the email.. meaning i wasn't getting "push" email, it woudl only retrieve my mail when i synced manually.. if I can't get this part figured out, then i'd love to hvae your file, but as I'd like to be able to start figuring some of this stuff out, if you know how to get it to sync right, i'd appreciate it.

I don't think you'd have to change permissions if you have SU on your phone. Stupid question. Do you have auto sync on and it added to your accounts on auto sync? I know I've turned mine off without even meaning to.

I have it set to push email within the mail app itself, and the application is showing up in the sync setting section, but it's not showing as enabled... but, it is working correctly, oddly enough.
I've loved the themes that I've seen for the gmail app, but unfortunately, I have non-gmail accounts and so must use the seldom-themed, standard Mail app. Any chance somebody could do one of those black/cyan themes for me? It would be GREATLY appreciated.

Try this. Original inversion credit goes to travp624 over at rootzwiki, and the icons are mine. I use corporate email exclusively too, and run AOKP 4.0.3- it works great.
How did you install it? I threw it in /system/app (there wasn't already an email.apk) and now I keep getting an error when the phone is on that "Email has stopped"

Aha. You must be running a different rom that still has the other email apk. (called googlemail.apk or something like that.) This is only for 4.0.3 roms like aokp or similar. sorry about that. Just delete mine and push a copy of your old one back. If you don't have a backup, just pull one out of the rom you use and push it.
Yes and no. I'm using the Apex ROM on 4.0.3. Any way around this?

Honestly I'm not familiar with Apex. The OP on rootz said it was compatible with "most" 4.0.3 roms. If it's extremely important to use exchange email, AOKP is an amazing rom and the file i sent works great.

Alright, I'm still kind of new at this. Can I flash the AOKP ROM without having to re-enter all of my user data and app settings? That would be a major PITA right now.
Would Titanium Backup back up as much as I would need to? Would a Nandroid backup?
Nevermind, I ended up just going back to factory and then flashing AOKP. Loving it so far, though!

So I came from the HTC One X to the S3 and it's been a great phone so far. However, the email font size is too big for me and the app isn't so great. So I have been using the stock ICS Email app for a few days now and it's been 100% stable.
If you want an awesome app with Microsoft Exchange, this is for you! I personally have 5 Microsoft Exchange accounts setup with zero issues.
To install the Stock ICS Email app:
1. Root your phone! Clear/Remove ALL email accounts/settings!
2. Download attached EmailGoogle.apk and ExchangeGoogle.apk
3. Install ES File Explorer and under Root settings, enable Root Explorer and Mount File System.
4. Go to System/App and remove: Exchange.apk, Exchange.odex, SecEmail.apk, and SecEmail.odex then reboot!
5. Optional: Remove Gmail.apk
6. Drop EmailGoogle.apk and ExchangeGoogle.apk into the System/App folder and reboot!
7. Setup your Exchange accounts and enjoy!

I recommend not using the Gmail email app and just setup your Gmail via Microsoft Exchange and add it to the stock ICS Email app. But if your contacts are with Gmail, then maybe you shouldn't unless you know how to config it separately.
are you having any issues with exchange meeting invites not displaying the meeting times? I get a accept/decline option but it doesn't display the date/time which is annoying. you can accept the invite and then check the date/time on the calendar. I'm currently running aokp for the att s3 which appears to use the default ics email client. thought I would ask before trying the one you posted.
I searched and it looks like a lot of nexus ics users also had this issue. a co-workers nexus running jb displays everything correctly.

Got this done so thanks! I did have some errors but after clearing the application data and setting up the account again it seems to have fixed things other than I show I have one message on the shortcut but nothing is there. Any ideas?
I'm going to let it cycle once by itself to see if it clears up on its own but I'm doubtful.
You mean badges? Stock ICS apps don't have badges
Thanks for reminding me. I edited the post.
Before you move forward, you must clear/remove all of your emails!
Messages you do not, but it wouldn't hurt. I don't though.
Thanks....will try this later today
So does the s3 tw motion control work with stock ics email and messaging apps? Like double tap to top and direct call?

I'm not sure what's putting it there but the icon is definitely getting updated with a message count - even when no messages are there. I used Desktop Visualizer to create a shortcut using a different icon (internet) and it still got the post count added to it. See the attached image for what I'm talking about.
Maybe I'll move the versions from my Nexus over the the S3 and see what happens.
ETA: It must be TW that's adding it because if I fire up Nova and add it the message count isn't there.
Make sure you have Exchange.apk, Exchange.odex, SecEmail.apk, and SecEmail.odex removed. Maybe it's an Exchange badge?

I renamed them by adding a ".sav" to the filename so they shouldn't be impacting things. I'm thinking of updating my Nova launcher to the paid version to see if it behaves the same as TW since it supports badges too.
The only other issue, and I think I had this on my Nexus as well, is that sometimes when I open the app it shows "Loading" and stays there. A reload makes it work properly. Curious.
I really rely on Facebook contacts sync as it has pretty much all the numbers i need. I know there are apps like Friendcaster and Haxsync but those do not sync the numbers with the profiles. My GNex is running stock 4.1 right now and it is rooted I believe, since i rooted it myself last night (i think i did it right). Is there something that will allow me to Facebook Sync my contacts and still keep the standard OS without noticing anything changed. Or i guess in other words, how can i quickly enable it so that it can sync and then delete whatever i put to enable it to do that so that I am back at square one just this time with all my contacts I would backup and put on my computer. Using a standard GSM Gnex on the latest Jellybean update, I hope I was descriptive as possible. Also I am a noob so please don't go too crazy on me, I've never actually done any of this stuff but i just want my contacts so i can use the stock until im comfortable doing more of this

Download Friendcaster from the app store, just run it side by side with the official FB app. I did that for my fiance, even though friendcaster is more robust.
She loves it now though because she can finally get realtime push notifications from facebook

I don't think you guys are understanding what I am saying lol, I understand these apps give you the contacts. This is what I want yes, but what they lack is adding the contacts WITH the phone NUMBERS. I want the the phone numbers. I am trying to get the phone numbers of with the contacts lol am i clear yet :crying:
Exactly. I want numbers too. I have like 5 people synced to my Google account. The rest are on Facebook. Friend caster only syncs them to my "people" app. If I go to the phone app the numbers aren't there. When I open the menu and select "choose contacts to display" I select friend caster and it says 0 contacts. Looking for contacts phone numbers not just names and HD photos...

Custom ROMs usually have Facebook sync working fine, you could also search how to modify a stock google image to allow facebook sync, if I'm not mistaken you'll need root and busybox, you will need to edit a text file and run a script that will update a database in your phone... Unfortunately I don't have this information handy, so, you'll need to search for it if you want to modify stock rom (remember, you need root), or, you can always use custom roms that do not have this limitation.

You tried to export them? There must be a way once you do get the contacts synced to save them into the phone and not just under the synced profile that way you can export them. I tried to export them off my other phone running gingerbread and put them onto my Gnex but it was a no-go the file i extracted had 0 bytes for some reason it just didn't want to export the contacts at all.. Was hoping it was still possible but I suppose its not
This is from Facebook site. Only option I found for you, would be to export them and add them to Gmail.

Hi. Is there a way that I can use an app from the Google Play store and set it as my default e-mail on the OnePlus 3? There are no settings to set a default e-mail app.I've tried to find a way but every thing I've tried, it seems that both the downloaded app and the 1+3 original app both receive emails at the same time. So I need a way to work around this if anyone could suggest anything. Thanks in advance.

quick question is this your first android device? I ask because there is no reason to have 2 emails running and also what email address are you using as your main is it gmail?
No it's not my first time having an android. All I've ever had were Android devices. I do not want two email apps is exactly what I'm saying. The Email App that comes with the 1+3 , if you go into App settings, it doesn't give the option to Clear Defaults. I want to download an alternative email app and use that as my main Email app as I dislike how the original Email app is setup. And yes Gmail is what I use.
Rooted? If so just delete the system app.
