I have an n7100 that is rooted. I'm wondering how I can set up custom vibrate notifications for specific apps. In particular, I would like SMS notifications to have a custom pattern and I can't see how to do that in the settings. It only allows me to turn vibrate on or off. Is there a simple way to do this? Perhaps with a third party app? Thanks!
Go to settings>sound>device vibration. At bottom of pop up is a choice to create your own vibrate pattern. Save it and I'm pretty sure you can apply to any app you want

There is no option in messaging app to choose custom vibrate... any app that doesnt allow for custom vibrate patter will default to whatever is checked there... how do i create custom vibrate in apps that dont allow it? i.e messaging?

You'd have to use a 3rd party messaging app like Handcent or Go SMS. They also allow you to set custom notifications for each contact as well.

Ok - but this will only allow custom vibration for different contacts... if i wanted to have one vibrate pattern for google talk, another for sms and another for facebook notifications, how could i set that up?

Is there a way to make the screen come on when a text is received so that one would know who it is from before unlocking the phone? Something like how the notifications on the iPhone light up the screen. I think my hero before this would light up the screen when receiving notifications.
Also I have 2.2 OTA and would like to know if sense can be disabled on this version like it could on the first evo software?
Handcent SMS has that function

And if you want to stay with the stock messaging app, you can use sms popup from the market.

Tasker is a great choice
Another app that does this and a ton more is tasker. I have the app set to only turn on the screen when certain contacts text me.
I hated that with my Touch Pro, increased the amount of butt dialing when it was in my pocket, but to each his own.

Settings > Applications > Manage applications > HTC Sense (or maybe it's called Rosie? Can't remember and running Cyanogen so I can't check). Then clear defaults and force close. Now, when you press the 'Home' button, it will pop-up and ask what launcher you want to use (you need to install another one).
This does not really disable Sense, at least not in any real fashion. But it will get rid of and make unusable all of HTC widgets and such. Sense is still there, baked into the system, but you wont see it.
And yes, this will work whether you are rooted or not.
Is there anyway to get notifications to show up on CM7's lockscreen (like "Text Message: John Doe")? Or how it is now in iOS5, where you can slide to unlock into that app? Please help!
If you have Widget Locker you can set custom unlock sliders that open into a user defined app.

I want something, like the iOS ones :/
You can use Missedit on Widgetlocker, and it will let you know that you have a missed text, call, email or calender event and by pressing on the notification it will open the app.
It can also be hidden so that it only appears when you have missed something.
Just use gosms or handcent and have the notifications turn the screen on

How do you set it up to only show when you missed something??

I have MissedIt! on my phone (running CM7), how do I configure it to show me texts and such?
Not sure with cm7. I think missed it only shows the number of missed. I know certain lockscreens on miu rom will show the actual message.

What script do I need it to run, so it'll atleast show me the notification.
Download SMSpopup.
You're welcome.

Working on this (see goo.gl/JFTyk) as a personal project. So far displays SMS and missed calls accurately. Using Widget Locker to display the transparent widget on the lock screen. Still need to figure how to swipe an individual notification to open into it.
Can I test that out? It's exactly what I need!
Here's the APK of my alpha release (goo.gl/OFE5v). It won't let you open the notification from the lock screen yet. I'll probably get that working over the weekend (swiping does not appear to be possible in widgets, I'm thinking double-tap). I'll probably make some UI tweaks, and add calendar events as well.
My next release will probably be on the Android Market, and for free since it sure as hell hasn't been tested on any phone other than mine.
MIUI has plenty of iphone lockscreen clones.
@mmrussell Thanks alot; let me know when you're going to put it on the Market, I'll look forward to it!
@sjpritch25 I used to use MIUI, but I just prefer CM7.
This would definitely be nice... My guess is we'll have to wait a few months for CyanogenMod to release Android 4.0 and it'll have most of this stuff. I doubt anything as good as iOS5 lock screen will be out sooner.
I'm on 4.0.2 GSM stock and I know that the ICS lockscreen sometimes has an option to unlock to SMS (swipe up) but it's not always there - its not there more often than is; is there a way to just permanently enable that unlock option on the lockscreen without using a third-party app like widgetlocker, a different launcher or flashing a rom?
it doesn't even show up when i get an SMS, is it because i've disabled the stock SMS app and am using goSMS? if so, is there a way to get ICS to recognize goSMS as the default SMS app or anything else i can do to get that unlock option?
This icon only shows up when answering a call, so you can reject and send a predetermined SMS to the caller such as, "I'm busy right now, I'll call you back later.".

On a stock build, no. Many custom roms feature what you're looking for, but you seem happy with a stock rom

Did you try to freeze it with Titanium backup ? But i dont understand why you want to disable it
Is it because....
.....you have installed another messaging app and you're getting multiple notifications?
Thanks for the reply. Titanium Backup cannot freeze it.
I want to disable it as I'm using a replacement app and whenever I receive a SMS I get it twice, once in both apps. The fix is to disable the stock message app, but I can't see how to do it

Hmm i am not sure about this app ... but you can disable notifications in the stock messaging app: open stock messenger --> settings --> notifications and there you can disable everything
Thanks again for the reply, but the notification isn't the problem. I get the message twice, in the both apps. So in both stock and the ICS Messaging I get the message twice.
I tried turning off notifications and it didn't help (worth a try though )

Oh, now i understand No, its not possible ... all the message apps are working on the base of the stock (i think), thats why you cant disable it.
You could try to set a wrong Service center number in the original app, and the right SCN in the one you will use give it a try and report back
There seems to be no way to set the SCN in the ICS app, so no go on that one. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll just have to go back to stock, no biggie

To be honest, i dont even know whats the difference between that two apps, the stock one looks great to ... the only thing why i use GoSMS is that you can block messages and set a private box, and theres no message/call blocker that can satisfy my needs for now ... i like the stock one more, but what can i do
You can't disable the sense message app but you can turn the notifications off if you go to SMS - settings - messages
i had the exact same problem, i just disabled notifications from the message apps settings and now i'm only getting one notification from ICS messenger
very happy !!
Good day,
First, I am sorry if this is not the right place to place a request.
I would to request to eliminate the screen wake up when an SMS arrives and let only the LED light notify me.
Is it possible?
Any ones help is more than appreciated.
Thank you and a good day to all. :highfive:
Anyone?
Its not possible.
Better to disable sms notifications and use a third party sms app like handcent which has customisable led notifications

Use GO SMS and disable stock app. There's a whole lot of customizations including "Wake up screen" in the notifications setting - which you can uncheck since you don't want to wake your screen.
If I remember correctly, @pulser_g2 answered a thread like this and said it could be done.
