So there are numerous posts and questions on how to get sprint visual voicemail working with miui or aosp roms.
For the life of me I can't get it to work no matter what method I use.
Can someone please help who has successfully got it working on there rom please reply with the exact steps you used.
Would really like to figure out the proper method on this.

Once you have it installed, click the mic icon up top on the right, record whatever(background noise is fine) then click send and send it to [email protected] this will provision the voicemail so that it works. You will receive annoying texts from 9016 everytime you get a new voicemail but using the spam block settings in you messaging app will hide/block them
I like to break stuff!
I have tried that numerous times. All I get is a bunch of 9016 messages but no voicemail ever comes through.

That's weird. Have you tried making a backup in titanium backup of it working on a tw rom and then restoring the app and data on miui?

Unfortunately it doesn't work properly on every rom, because if 9016 texts get blocked to the phone completely, then vvm never receives the message, vvm has to receive these messages in order to function. The rom I'm running has a blacklist option that allows me to block 9016 from messaging app only, keeping 9016 coming through to phone, which vvm then picks up perfectly. Their are apps to do this, but some block it totally, which is not what you want.

You can use google voice for voicemail or you can use the aosp visual voice mail for cm7 on cm9.... however I don't think it works properly.

My Sprint Voicemail works fine on CM9. I restored app and data from Titanium. I disabled notification and use the text message from 9016 as my notification.
If this don't work for Visual Voicemail Plus in the market works great too.
I didn't care much for Google voice either. I have been looking for a replacement in the Market. I will give Visual Voicemail Plus a try. Thanks.

Kenny, which Sprint VVM version are you using. I've tried 5.1.0.48 and 70.
The closest I got was 70 on Alpha2 where it told me I had a voicemail, but could not retrieve it.
Thanks
The only way (at the moment) that I got Sprint VVM to work on CM9 is to backup an already functioning Sprint VVM from CM7 or a TW ROM using Titanium Backup.
Flash back to CM9 and restore VVM WITH data and it should work.
Also, for anyone wondering, I'm using Sprint Visual Voicemail v5.2.0.24

If your phone came with AT&T Messages, you need to go to AT&T store to have them switch you back to the old VVM system. I upgrade to Messages and hated it and went back.

you don't have to go into the store you can call a csr they should be able to reset your account.
I also use Google voice and its awesome. But since most messages left are in Spanish, Google will tell me the craziest things when it tries to make them into English words (I get a hell of a kick out of it)

This app worked fine when I was using TW, but I switched over to AOKP and the app will not work. I go through the setup and it asks for my pin. I type in my pin and the app just sits there with the wheel spinning, looking like its doing something. However, it never comes back. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, factory reset, wiped cache & Dalvik cache. Any ideas?

Thanks. I should have spent a little more time looking around before posting. I also found the answer here.
I switched to Paranoid Android and somehow lost my phone # in the sim card. I was searching and found I had to go into the phone app and readd my # and also readd my voicemail dial in #(which is different than your phone #)
Had to call AT&T for that.
I was never able to get att visual VM to work. Tried everything even called att. They couldn't figure it out...surprising huh

For some reason, I can not get my phone to use Google Voice as my default VMB for the phone. I installed Google Voice, and it asked if I wanted to do that. I said yes, selected Google Voice (as opposed to Carrier) and it said it failed to update. I tried manually under phone settings many times. Tried rebooting too, nothing.
Any idea why I can't change calls to be directed to Google Voice for voicemail?
I'm on stock LH9 ROM, rooted and the special tethering framework (I tried without this first, but still no luck).
ya, tried the att messages app today.. horrible. it froze my contacts and kept shutting down some google app process.
for those who are curious.. google voice works on ICS. took me a moment to figure it out, and really liked having it on gingerbread. go to google voice website. hit settings and then "activate voicemail" it gives you a series of symbols and numbers to enter into your dialer and then it's activated.
BAM.
I'm getting notifications in the notification bar saying there is an update available for Sprint Visual Voicemail. I go to download the update and no matter what rom I am on there is a package parsing error. How do I fix this?

If you aren't on a stock rom (rooted or unrooted) you will get the parsing error, I learned this the hard way. You could also look for the updated apk for it, but will end up getting texts about new voicemails. Unless you plan on be forced to like handcent good luck on figuring out how to stop the texts.

Actually you don't need to use Handcent to ignore the texts. Just get an app like Super Private Conversation, There are others too I just use that one and have for years because it works. It allows you to block Numbers and send them to a separate call log or delete them all together. The best feature is I can use whatever text App I want.
I did the switch to google ... but I found that if you dont check the settings it sets the reject calls and makes you press 1 too accept the call ... otherwise it goes directly too voice mail and is supposed too act like a call screening feature ... which was driving me nutso ... and I dont remember seeing anything about that setting when setting up the google voice .. the only thing I remember was it said this will erase all your

Google Voice for Voicemail issues
Hey all-
I am running Blazer Rom ICS build on my Samsung, and ever since I update to it I both:
1) keep getting the Sprint Voicemail update notification.
& worse,
2) can't use Google Voice for my voicemail. Google Voice used to lead you through a step-by-step installation process where you could choose it as your voicemail and you dialed a special #. Can you still do this? Does anyone know the # you need to dial?
Thanks,
Mike

Every time I've used custom ROMs since my original Evo 4G, I've had issues with voice mail. It's not just visual voice mail, it's the Sprint voice mail call in and notification. The long press 1 gives me a carrier automatic message for not available and my notifications are all text messages with a hyper link and phone number to call that don't work. I have to manually call my number to access voice mail and check for messages.
I've tried the Google Voice option and did not like it. I love switching ROMs like socks and giving them all a whirl, but I cannot live without better carrier voice mail integration or a better solution for tracking missed calls, my job won't allow it.
If anyone can explain why AOSP/AOKP ROMs I've used have this problem and stock framework ROMs do not, I'd be grateful for the education and would also welcome work around suggestions so I can keep ROM hoping.

Because it's not built into aosp ... It's a carrier thing which is why you can do it on a touch wiz rom but not aokp or cm10 its not there to fix on aosp

So is basically hardwired into the framework of the ROM. Modified stock ROMs would work by maintaining carrier framework but AOSP/AOKP based ROMs would not because their framework is based off Google source code. That about sum it up?

To get voicemail working on aosp, install the VVM app, go to menu and record a message, then send the message to [email protected] and wait for a return message. This will provision voicemail to work on aosp. After you do that VVM will work, with the exception you will receive a text from 9016 as well as the VVM notification, and long pressing 1 will work. For long press 1 you may need to go to the dialer > settings > voicemail and add your phone #

It is to an extent. It only works automatically and self provisions on stock based samsung roms, it has to be done manually on AOSP/CM based roms. The other alternative is to use a 3rd party vvm app from the playstore like youmail. But manually provisioning and setting up the carrier VM options in the call settings from dialer should get the sprint VVM working. You'll get your regular vvm noti but you'll also get a text from 9016 everytime you get a message

Stock messaging app doesn't have a spam blocker, but I got one that works. However, I can get the VVM apk installed but it won't work right and the activation vm I sent did not return a message to me. Also, with Paranoid I'm not able to change my voicemail number from *86, whenever I enter a new number and hit OK it changes back to *86.

I dont use VVM anymore, but when I did the only way that I found to fix it was to activate another phone on your line, then reactivate your phone on your account. I dont know why it worked, but it did.
