Help: Photos/Video of my late mother deleted after system update - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi there,
I am new to the forums but am wondering if anyone could help me in recovering recorded videos/photos.
My mom recently passed away from cancer and these video files are extremely important to me as it was her last words to me. Before unlocking and rooting my phone, I created a full backup through the Nexus Root toolkit program. However, in restoring the files, it only pushed back a fraction of the files I had on my phone.
Is there any way of restoring all my files or even just the photos and videos? I am completely distraught and I have tried all the data recovery programs for android but unfortunately none of the applications work as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus cannot mount an SD card.
If anyone could provide any input, it would be much appreciated.
My direct contact is: [email protected]
With sincerest regards,
Richard

That's rough. By chance did you have auto upload turned on? If so they should be present on your google account.
Do you still have the backup from the nexus toolkit? Can you explore it for the DCIM directory?

Thank you for such a quick response,
I do have auto upload turned on but I do not know where I can find the files on my google account. I did not see it in my google drive or docs. Should I be looking somewhere specific?

Google recuva. Downloads the program and run it through your device, assuming you haven't over written any files yet. It should recover a majority of the files. I can't count how many times it had saved me. Let us know what happened. Sorry to hear.

Esteway: Unfortunately my device synced to picasa and so there are no albums there aside from a profile picture.

At the moment, I'm completely distraught but I'm planning on bringing it to a computer store to see if they would be able to recover the files. Although none of the methods mentioned above worked, I just want to thank all of you who have responded. I really do appreciate your input and am happy I joined this community.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up and say that I was able to recover the deleted files by following this guide.

Blank/empty album named after me always in Gallery

Hi, I've just bought a Galaxy Nexus, and I've noticed that there is always a permanently empty album in the Gallery, named after me. I don't know where it could have got the name from exactly, however I'm guessing from my "Me" contact in the phone? I know for sure that it isn't a picasa album. Anyone have a similar issue to this? I want to get rid of it if i can, but I see no way that I can delete it.

Have you checked G+ albums? Maybe you've got one named after you
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Nope, nothing there. My Google+ Albums have the picasa logo on them, but this blank one doesn't have any sort of logo. Can't delete it either.
Anybody got any ideas?
Well i've posted a thread on the Android Help forums, but I hope I don't have to end up resetting my phone

May be a dumb question, but have you tried deleting it? I tried transferring pictures onto my GN and ended up with some ghost folders that I just deleted.

[Q] Anyone know where I can find the myverizon.apk?

Anyone happen to know where I can get a .apk for the myverizon app that was initially installed on the phone? I can't find it on the market... Need to use it to track my parent's data/min usage. Thanks!
I was thinking of grabbing the stock image from google but I have no idea where/how to extract the .apk from there. Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, this happened to me after syncing with my Samsung account, then it would try to sync anytime i was at main screen...DONT SYNC!!!!
Thanks for the warning folks.
this is sad and ironic; given S Pen is main attraction of this tablet.. it needs to work well..
I am waiting for a call back from samsung to try and recover my data. What kind of laws cover their destroying my data? They were not very cooperative and failed to understand theirs servers deleted my data.

Laws.... You're trying to take on a company with multimillion dollar legal teams for lost s note files. ?.

I've had this issue as well, note 2 and 8 are supposed to sync the notes but it doesn't work well. Instead I get blank notes in one or the other and if I delete the blank then the good copy will disappear from the other device.
My solution was to ditch s note. I now use lecture notes along with drop sync to handle the actual cloud syncing. Works a treat, no more lost notes. Sort it out Samsung, small independent developers are doing a better job than you.

It was more sarcasm than anything. I did ask the supervisor about their cloud storage policies, and he took about 10 minutes trying to find some, but couldn't. I love their mobile products, but I will never trust their backup cloud again!

Do you know the name of the partition? The option is still there but nothing new pops up in gallery, however I can add a new private picture and have it show/disappear on command. And i was so excited in getting the lollipop OTA, i skipped some of the regular prep list before upgrading out of sheer excitement :crying:
So they're still here, just not accessible through gallery. Should I unprivate or zip them? There aren't really any other available options than that

Unprivating them through the stock file manager didnt change them back to their original form, just literally moved the encrypted (i assume thats how it works) files from the protected private partition to the unprotected partition of the sd card, without unencrypting them. So still no better off than i was before. A reboot didnt work either.:crying:

It's just a idea, but you can try to put them on your sd card, use Odin downgrade back to 4.4.4 then put them in private an try to unprivate them and see if it works but it's a long shot...
plus would take alot of time, maybe there is a app on the play store?

Yes it's possible there is a post 5.0.1 back to 4.4.4 in the general threads
But you'd lose everything it's factory reset, which is y you'd have to back up everything on sd card

Damn, the same thing just happened to me. When I activate Private Mode, I can see it mount files under /storage/Private but they are renamed and look to be encrypted. How did this get past any kind of testing???
I tried activating KNOX to see if that helped. Doesn't look like it did. I can see why Sammy decided to disable it by default...runs much smoother.
However, unfortunate for all those private photos seemingly lost.
Searching around I found Galaxy S5 users that complained of this same thing happening when they went to Lollipop. So it looks like this was a known issue! But they have no solution either that I could find.
Does Android have a history of listening to user complaints and coming out with a fix in the near future?
Some way to unencrypt them..
Same thing happened to me. Had anyone had luck downgrading and unencrypting that way? Can we report the issue to samsung? I lost a ton of important info for my job.
I have the same problem.
I was talking to samsung support via twitter. They said that in the next FOTA it will import the previous encrypted files...
