[Q] Handwriting with non-Samsung keyboard - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone here know if there is a way to use handwriting recognition while using keyboards other than the default Samsung one? I really love the ability to switch to handwriting on the fly but the stock keyboard just isn't my cup of tea.

Just search for a program called SpenBoard im not sure if its on play store but its most likely in xda. It learns how or what keyboards you use most of the time and also you can set it to switch the keyboard to your liking when spen is not in use and switch to Samsung hand recognition when the spen is out.

There is a mod in the themes and apps section that switches back to the stock keyboard when the s pen is detached. Its a good work around

Better keyboard

Has anyone been able to install better keyboard from the market? I even tried by direct link and I got item couldn't be found. I have a titanium backup of it, but haven't tried it since I have no root.
The unlocker for better keyboard 7/8 doesn't show up for me either.

If you send me your email I can send you the apk to the dark gingerbread keyboard I've been using from the sensation 4g forums. I think it's better than the stock Samsung one.

Ya it does more a lil more than the other to but works for me
Better keyboard was removed about 2 weeks ago. The developer got sick of google pulling his apps. If you have a TB backup gran androzip and open the TB folder. In ther find the better keyboard zip and extract it. Then yoh can install the apk. Do the same for the unlocker. Did mine this way and works great

go to market
search "gingerbread keyboard"
download and install
go to menu > settings > keyboards
enable gingerbread keyboard
go to somewhere where you can type text
press text box, select "input method"
change to gingerbread keyboard.
that's what I did until we get some themed keyboards or a port for the htc_ime (which is the best aftermarket keyboard that doesn't cost money)
I like using SwiftKey, 3. Colors and predicts your words for you.

Do you prefer touch wiz or after market launcher like NOVA?

I'm a previous nova launcher user. Trying to get a consensus on touch wiz.
TOUCH WIZ!!
Touch Wiz and all its features can't be touched.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
ive always used third party launchers..giving touchwiz a try and i like it a lot so have been using that
I'm ok with Trebuchet and have tried Go Launcher but I really like what they did with touchwiz for jelly bean personally.
Nova, got the paid version a few weeks ago on sale for a quarter. Los of great setting and options

I never really liked touch wiz at all. This time around im not so against it. I think my favs would be trebuchet, or the sense launcher. Never got a good feeling from nova or any others...

Not sure if serious...?
Can't resize widgets, can't change grid size, no scrollable dock, etc.
The modded touchwiz launcher is OK with increased grid sizes, but still too limited. I use Go Launcher. They update it like every Friday, good support, lots of themes, animations, etc.

go launcher seemed to always add battery drain when i used it. i've tried going back multiple times and each time i'd get bad battery life which would go away after uninstalling. it also started slowing down my droid charge, each update added something that caused my charge to be slow as heck (it's only got 512MB of RAM).
it's got some nice features and add ons however.

Hmm, I've never experienced that.
I use NOVA. I'd love to use stock, but I cannot stand having less than a 7x7 grid, which just is not possible with TW
I always loved Apex, but it's not worth giving up all the features on this so touch wiz it is

Used to be hardcore Apex up until I couldn't use it on my GS3 with Paranoid Android. Been using Nova ever since. I'm a big fan of stock Android so TW just doesn't do it for me. I can't wait til we get an AOSP from, hopefully with Nova or Trebuchet built in.

The s pen integration. Like how s note opens when I pull it out. You can also do the search with it. I love the profiles, like when I plug in headphones it goes to a Page set up for music.
The customization Of apex isn't worth giving up the features.

Can someone run though the features they like in tw? The bits I like about the note interface such as taking a screenshot awaiting your palm across the screen still work in Nova. On the other hand especially on the phone with a lot of storage things like the Nova Launcher ability to use folders in the app drawer to organize applications so you don't have to scroll through hundreds of them are really nice. Same with the gestures for control which really cut down on the poking and pecking when it comes to trying to get stuff started quickly. I used TW for a few days and just found it pretty pretty plain Jane with no extra features

Advice for T9 keyboard

hello friends,
i have Gnexus with cyano 10
there is a keyboard (apk) with a fantastic T9 ? like sense 4.0 T9 keyboard? or something like that...
thank you very much!
i try find it but with few results...
Yes, I could never get use to with the standard QWERTY either as I'm addicted to the old T9 writing. Download smart key board (or Google for smart keyboard pro apk, you will find it easily). Once installed go to the keyboard settings by holding on the keyboards ?123 key at the bottom right and select T9 layout.
Cheers.

Chinese TW zhuyin and handwrite apk

I am sure that overseas phones have these with the native samsung keyboard to select as input optiins but they are not options in the US note2's. Is there a way to get these inputs on the US phones? I see many options in the playstore using ither keyboards to have enable those inputs but it would be another separate keyboard.
Thanks in advance.

There are keyboard options like go keyboard and touchpal but they are not as good as the samsung keyboard for english and/or they only offer just zhuyin and not handwriting.
If anyone has a solution, that would be great
I added the Chinese pack in the keyboard setting and now I can do handwriting in chinese with stock samsung keyboard.

LMT Launcher [PIE]

First off I'm a fan of stock TW on my Note 2, however I love a lot of the features of AOSP. One of those features is PIE. LMT Launcher is almost identical to PIE in every way, maybe even a little better. All you need is root, download the newest app, install, open the app, select "set gesture input", select the Note 2 (number 2) and enjoy. I'm running this on a basically stock TW 4.1.2.

Ok i figured it out......it probably because your on a later version of LMT. So IF you are using Jedi12 which is running 1.9 it will NOT display the faded colors, if you upgrade LMT to 1.96 the Hex colors for the fade work fine.
Thanks for the code Mikey
Works great now. I had to align the commas and spaces properly too. Thanks for the note mate.
Is there a way I can adjust the gradient to become more blue heavy?
EDIT: nevermind, playing around with the numbers. The colours are fantastic.

If you have the latest LMT (1.96) you can assign key 1004 to a gesture or pie item. This will trigger longpress back...

Edit: Nevermind. Upon looking at it 3 more times, I finally saw that I'd left out a string. Looks awesome!!!!
Ok I got it working, but how do I get back into the pie menu to start customizing it? It's not like it created a shortcut in my app drawer, and I've tried pressing every available button to get back into the menu? Help?

Ok this is quickly becoming cool as [email protected] i have a question. For assigning apps I wanted to assign maps as main and navigation as long press, but navigation isn't showing up In the app list? What up with that?
Ok more questions... I'm trying to add the phone app, and it let's me assign it, but it won't activate when I press the pie key. I've found this to be true for several apps. So I cleared both blacklists, but still no joy. Any ideas?
