Much lately I have realized that I cannot mute my messaging tone while im on a call. I have a custom message tone which last for 7 seconds. And during a call when I receive a message, the tone plays non stop for 7 seconds. Even though I pull down the notification bar, enters the messaging app. It will only stop after 7 seconds. I don't want to lose my favourite msg tone. But at times its annoying during a call, and I have to tell my caller to wait for a while to continue our conversation. Im using stock messaging app and don't fancy using 3rd party messaging app. Currently im running on 4.1.2 DLL7 deodexed stock rom. Help is much appreciated

over writig tones
hello guys , may be some help, i have a question? there is the posibility to overwrite the original tones(,ringtones, notification tones and the alarmas tones )on Samsung galaxy note 2 for difrent ones but with the same name and extention?
Both problems i had issues with.
The first solved as above, however changing the tones...
1. Get Root
2. Get Es File Explorer Ideally
3. Go To System/Media/Audio and delete the folders ^__^
4. Create Same File Tree In Flash Storage.
5. Places Tones In Each Folder
6. Result ^__^

As many of you may have expirienced after switching to Rickys ROM (not that the loss of vibrating txt aalerts wasnt worth it) I have found a solution. Though I am not sure it will work for everyone i fiddled around with the settings alot until i got it to work heres wat i did...
STEPS
1. If u have SMS Bubbles uninstall it ( I know this sucks but you gotta do what you gotta do)
2.Go to
>>Settings
>>Sounds
>>"New text message"
3.Now change the sound to one that you do not use for any other alert reminder etc. Do the same for "New E-Mail". I used a custom sound.(I kno you're probably wondering why you have to change the sound and to be honest idk why just beer with me)
4.Go to
>>Settings
>>Profiles
>>"Vibrate"
5.Once on "vibrate" click menu
6.Press edit
7.Go to Notification type and select multiple vibrate.
8.Enjoy your phone will once again vibrate when you have a text
I am not sure if all of the settings have to be identicle like i said this took much dabbiling to achieve but it works for me hope it works for all of you as well. Good luck!
mine never stopped working...interesting.
bubbles maybe?
some ppl have the problem some dont im not quite sure why. Did u ever install SMS bubbles?

I use SMS Bubbles and Rickys ROM, I have never had this problem.
I upgraded to 2.2 OTA yesterday. Everything has worked great except that out of all issues, the notification sound for my text message became a very low key pop sound. I attempted to change it various times and tried resetting my phone a couple of times to see if that changed anything and nothing.
The funny part is I can still change the sound notifications for my twitter, so it is specifically the text messaging that is causing a problem. I have never rooted and didn't flash that early froyo, just the legit one yesterday.
Can anyone help me?
Does anyone have any ideas ?
Have you tried a reboot?

By rebooting you mean turning off and turning on? If yes I have many times and tried taking out the battery too.

Im rooted using fresh right now it is built on the latest OTA and I'm trying to replicate your problem. What happens when you attempt to change the sound also where are you changing the sound at in messaging settings or the default in sounds?

When I go to settings/sound/notification sound I click any of the sounds and click ok. (As I highlight any of them it plays the preview sound).
Then I exit and have multiple people text me and it plays a little tiny sounding popping sound instead of whatever sound I picked.
Now I am on launcher pro and attempted changing on regular sense and nothing happened. I'm also using chompsms. (maybe uninstall chompsms?)
I don't know what to do . I turned off the phone several times and also took out the battery. Twitter notifications work fine, so its directly related to texting
go into your messages home screen press menu, press settings, scroll to received messages heading, make sure play notification sound is checked and than select a notification sound from the next option below and select ok

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG THANK YOU !!!!!!!! You have no idea how frustrated I was with this !
I really appreciate it man.
This was mentioned in the rom thread but seems to have gotten lost, so...
I've put an .mp3 into my /system/media/audio/ringtones to use as a custom ringtone. Reboot and there it is in the ringtone list. Select it and all is good.
BUT, in a couple of days it disappears from the list and the ringtone is reset to something else.
The file is still in the right folder. It can be fixed with a reboot, but still kinda annoying.
Any idea what's going on here?

i set mine through zedge... i was gettin the defualt rings if i would setup the ring through sound~
... it is odd....but works now... . like i said..set through zedge..workd for me
I set mine through handcent, because it allows the usage of custom ringtones, and I've never had a problem.
Put it in /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones/ instead. Give that a shot.
I had this happen with my alarm clock. I put an ogg file in system/media and after a few days there were only 3 ringtones to select. I even tried some apps from the market and got the same thing. I've been flashing nightlies on top of eachother so I assumed that caused it.

Ha, I didn't even know that there is a /sdcard equivalent for ringtone storage. I'll give that a shot.
Although, I am a little concerned about "ring lag", but curious enough to find out nonetheless.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
I've had all my ringtones reset various times when flashing CM7 nightlies (granted i'm on a NS4G now)... but still happening... which is a huge PITA when I have custom ringtones for many of my contacts. I just found an app on the market that apparently backs up the specific database where these settings are stored.
It's called Backup My Tones (on the market)
This sounds really stupid but anyone else having a problem with the ringtone you select staying? I select a ringtone and then verify but every time I get my first call after it goes to dumb Verizon airwaves ringtone. My notification tones stick like normal. Just really getting annoying.
Thanks
Never had that problem ....

Yeahp i had it...seemed to have stopped tho.
I'm still having the problem with the ringtone not staying. Still reverts the VZW Airwaves after first call. I checked to see if I disabled an app to cause this and struck out there. I'm wondering if its do not disturb. I keep it on always and only let contacts call.
Same problem here

Mine is still happening. I've been busy working but I may try a factory reset. My phone started bootlooping this morning when I got home from work and put it on the charger. Restarted like 6 times. Lots of bugs
I'm still not having any issues, well except this

I had this issue at first. Do you have ES File explorer? Mine was borked because of that. So i had to disable that from being default. Then it still wasn't working for my SMS only text tone so I switched from Hangouts to Google Messenger, changed the tone then switched back to Hangouts.
When I was doing that Hangouts had the right text tone selected but that wasn't what played. So i used "SMS" as default SMS account vs my Gmail then switched it back the be more organized and it worked. Haven't tried changing tone since so idk if thats needed each time

I'd again verify your not going through a file explorer menu and thats its not the default app. Instead system explorer

Okay good to hear. I'm just going to wait and deal with it since I will be exchanging for a new device. Thanks again for letting me know.
No problem
Been having this same issue on my replacement Note 7, (ringtone never switched to default on my original Note 7). I used Samsung cloud to restore some settings on my replacement Note 7 and that could be the culprit.
I really do not want to do a factory reset as I just spent a ton of time setting my phone back up this week.
I moved the ringtone from SD card to internal to see if that would fix it from reverting. Will see...
I had the issue on my original defective Note 7. Not having it on my new one.

Maybe unrelated, but are you using any kind of audio volume manager? Some of them (like AudioManager Pro) will store ringtone information, so when you toggle modes, the ringtone comes along for the ride (reverting one that you may have manually selected).
I put a brand new ringtone on my internal drive Ringtone folder yesterday and when I turned on my phone this morning, it had reverted back to the Verizon default ringtone again. Any ideas how to get the ringtone to stick other than a factory reset?
Hello. I'm running 10.2.5.0 (PFBEUXM) stable and I have an issue with Whatsapp notification sounds.
I tried to change the default sound notification from Whatsapp Settings - Notifications - Notification tone. When I clicked there I had couple of choices and I clicked I think Internal shared storage.
The issue is that I cannot anymore get out of this internal storage whatever I click. It's very strange. Is anyone else facing the same issue ?
Unfortunately uninstall and install again didn't solve the issue. I'm stuck on that page without the possibility to select another sound.
Install any file manager from playstore and try one kore time.
Don't tap "always".

That did the trick. Thank you!
What's strange is the fact that seems that Whatsapp doesn't come with a pack of sounds at all. on my other device (xiaomi redmi 5 - I have lots of sounds to pick from)
Yes. I would also like to use the default WhatsApp tone but can't seem to find it any where and it does not reset if i click restore defaults.

I've never had inbuilt Whatsapp's sounds in any Android phone.
