[Q] Do the newest games lag on your phone? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I noticed that newest games lag a bit on my gnex. For example, Death Dome is a great game and it doesnt lag in gameplay, but it is terrible in menu and while loading. It gets 2-3 seconds lag. Other game that lags in Vice city which should be a joke for gpu. Even on medium settings i get frame skips and 20 FPS. Dragon Slayer worked pretty well, actually. Got only few frame skips on it. and Most Wanted also works perfectly. Is it normal? I'm running Xylon rom with Purity kernel. Other roms dont work well with my phone

FPSe performance on GNex

Hey,
i just bought an HDMI adapter for my GNex and wanted to play Crash Bandicoot with the FPSe Emulator, but the performance is like a wave ^^
For some seconds very smooth and then it begins to lag for some seconds and so on...
I also noticed that the warmer the phone the worse the performance, but why does it even go hot?
i mean the PSX has a 33MHz CPU
My setup: Apex 1.0.2
PopcornKernel 7.2
Does anyone have a simular problem?
cheers
I have the same "issue".
Fpsce works perfect on my Xperia Play, for example with Colin 2, always 50 fps, always perfect.
In Nexus i have over 40 fps with hard downs who makes the game inplayable, even with dual core boost marked.
I donĀ“t understand anything, maybe is about the 720p, maybe ICS, maybe GPU....

so when your phone gets warmer it has lower performance?
its probably due to throttling due to high thermal output. regardless of governor, kernel, or settings, if the chip gets too hot it will throttle down to the lowest state, usually 350mhz. causing massive lag. this is normal practice in a lot of poorly cooled, space confined chips. maybe try undervolting to keep the temps down. stay away from overclocks. they are not stable due to this reason. i rather play smooth 30fps then 50fps with constant stutters and freezes. overclocking does not solve all issues, it usually introduces new performance issues due to bottlenecking

okay i will try, but why does the CPU even get this hot while emulating? even my calculator has more power than the good old PSX
Because it have to convert it to a higher resolution + the emulator might not be that good...

[Q] What 3D gaming performance should I be getting?

So, I seem to be getting really poor 3D performance out of my Galaxy Nexus, and would like to know if I should be worried.
Something like Shadowgun will fluctuate between running pretty smoothly (30-40 fps, I guess) and chopping noticeably (15-20 fps) on my phone, whereas other people report it running perfectly smoothly on their GNs. Even simpler 3D games like Wind-Up Knight or Cordy fail to run smoothly on my phone, constantly feeling a bit choppy and occasionally dropping to pretty bad framerates. A game that does run very smoothly is Minecraft, but it seems to be something of an exception.
What are your experiences? What version of Android are you running? I'm on 4.0.2 stock, and I'm trying to figure out if my issues have something to do with that (I've found some accounts of people claiming their performance dropped with the 4.0.2 update) or if my phone is actually not giving me the performance I should be getting.
I was playing Shadowgun last night and was amazed at how fast and smooth it was. No lag or stutter that I could notice, but I have no idea what fps I was pulling.
I'm running the latest GummyNex and Franco kernel. I highly recommend both.

Yeah, that doesn't sound at all like my experience. In the very first area of the game, the framerate was noticeably low on my phone, especially when looking out over the open area (it got a bit better when close to walls, etc.). And again, I'd like to find out if this difference is because I'm running 4.0.2 stock or if it's something else.
Could a certain GN unit really have significantly worse 3D performance than another without there being something seriously wrong with the GPU (which would probably show up in other ways as well, such as visual artifacts, etc.)? I seem to be getting similar scores to other non-overclocked GNs in benchmarks such as Antutu (yeah, I know they are not a good measure of performance, but I figured they could at least be useful when comparing the performance of different units of the same model).

Asphalt 7: The Heat

Now that It's finally out, I was wondering if you guys started playing and if so how's the game play for you?
So far for me it's not as smooth as asphalt 6 was, it lags a here and there and the controls aren't as responsive as I want it to be.

I've played both for quite a while, and I find that Asphalt 6 was refined a little more. My experience however on Asphalt 7 doesn't seem to be nothing less than smooth. I guess it's because of the kernel and ROM I am currently using that makes it seem smooth. but you are right. Asphalt 6 handles much better. Asphalt 7 seems like it wasn't very well optimized. I played it on my iPad and it runs much better, which doesn't make sense considering our device has so much more power.
Lags and frame drops a lot. Played asph6 to make sure it wasn't an issue with my underclocking the cpu but asph6 ran lly smooth as usual.
I gave asph7 5 stars but I hope they optimize the game for s3 Snapdragon soon.

I found it very smooth when I played it (though it could be due to the fact of being overlooked), but my main quirk so far with this and 6 are the controls. I can never stand them and it upsets me that there's little customization for it (still find real racing to be my favorite racing game on a mobile device). Otherwise graphics are amazing and the levels and cars look fantastic.

Does your screen get hot while gaming?

I'm currently running Jellybomb 11.0 and I'm not sure if it was like this when I was stock because I've only had the phone for a couple days and flashed this rom on the 2nd day I had it. But does anyone elses screen get hot when they play games? My entire screen doesn't get hot, only towards the top (where the front facing camera is) gets hot after only about 10-15 minutes of playing a game such as NFS and it cools down with in like 5 minutes of closing the game.

Old signature that I still have to change.
Yep my screen gets hot too. I guess its normal.
My screen actually gets colder when I am running graphics intensive games that press my cpu/gpu to its limits. How weird.
I'm running VeNuM ice(if that makes a difference) .. And my screen is actually stays the same while playing graphic intensive games.. Sometimes a little bit warm if I'm playing for a long period of time.. but nowhere near hot.. All normal to me
-TeaM VeNuM Like A Boss
-Galaxy Note II Edition
Seems to only happens when I play NFS. If I play too long it makes the full back hot, but it starts at the "top" of the phone where the camera is.
Hm, well its seems like there's mixed experiences. Makes me a little concerned that my phone gets hot so fast in only a certain area of the screen.
Stock. Some make screen hot, some don't. NFS and spider-man do but the less intensive games don't

Does Genshin Impact run smoothly for anyone else?

So this game seems to be blowing up all over the world and looks like something I'd enjoy. I downloaded it but the game was very laggy and I could not get it to run smoothly. I've run COD Mobile, GTA Vice City and Dead Cells on my A70 without any loss in framerate or or just graphically in general. I'm quite sure there isn't anything using up resources for the game.
So my question is: Does Genshin Impact run smoothly for anyone else? What settings do you run it at?
Cheers,
SDC
it runs decently on my phone about 30 fps when exploring and about 20 when in combat with medium settings, i still prefer playing on the PC because when the phone gets hot the fps drop really hard making it unplayable
