Tv connection wirelessly - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Would I be able to connect my note 2 to a TV wirelessly to steam iplayer and films from Google?
Would I need a particular tv. Special adaptors etc...?

I think if you wanna mirror your phone onto the screen you need the Samsung all-share cast dongle..
You can also use a multi-media dock which uses HDMI input so nice 'n' HD
Your last option from what i can think of is passing the movies in to the phone or an SD Card and using the stock gallery app u can mirror it to the TV wirelessly. (Samsung TV's ONLY)

Wireless video out: possible?

I wonder, is it possible to connect the Note to a TV set without NHL or other wired setups? Is there any kind of dongle one can connect to the TV to receive audio/video by Bluetooth or wifi?

U can, if the TV do have DLNA and just connect it wireless.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEFdjqmgngA
Do you want to stream content from the phone or see the phone screen on the TV?
DLNA would cover the 1st option - the built-in Allshare app turns the phone into a DLNA compliant server.
For the 2nd option, you could either use and MHL cable with a wireless HDMI setup or use something Android VNC Server from a PC attached to the TV.
I use imediashare from the market to stream to my apple tv2... works great. Works with an Xbox and lots of other things too.

Allshare works fine. I have connected my PC, LED and phone. Cool thing to show off as well.
Thanks, the latter.I might use one of my Nokia internet tablets to setup vnc and hook it to my TV. Won't be quick enough for gaming and streaming, though.
The wireless hdmi setup requires too many things attached to the Note to be comfortable.

The Allshare works great, running with a Samsung UNC55D8000. Images video crisp clear and very fast sync.
Is there any wireless Mirroring on the horizon?

Allshare works fine between TV and phone, but the PC client has difficulties with shared folders. It keeps delisting my media folders, and now even unable to add any folders at all.
Try Qloud Media Free in the market

Awesome! How cool is that? Am playing movies straight from my phone via the PS3 to the big screen with no cables. Magic.
Much appreciated. I shall now have to tour friends' houses to show off!
Plasma TV without DLNA
Hi guys,
I have a LG Plasma TV without DLNA but with USB ports and HDMI ports.
I know I can connect my Note with the MHL cable but would like to explore the wireless options.
1) If I try to plug a wifi usb stick to the Plasma TV, will it work ?
2) If not, what are the other available options ?
thanks

Please can someone confirm which app you guys are talking about to stream to the ps3 for movies download from my phone.
Thanks guys

Unlikely, the USB port on your TV is likely only for connecting a USB memory stick or hard-drive to display photos and possibly videos. If your TV's firmware had support for a wireless USB dongle it would also likely be DLNA compliant.
Hi thanks. I have heard about HDMI (one side) to wireless (the other side) connection for example for HTC (HTC Media Link). Do we have similar things for Samsung Galaxy Note?

Well, there's the HTC Media Link for starters!
However, this only offers DLNA streaming, not full display mirroring.
The HTC Media Link HD does offer display mirroring, but only when partnered with an HTC One X or S.

Dave
OK,
So what are the available options for me (owner of the galaxy note and a HDTV without DLNA but with HDMI).
Is it only the MHL cable then ? Any other options to mirror or wirelessly stream ?
I saw an adapter for the Galaxy III which connects to the phone through wifi direct and to the TV set through hdmi cable. It's exactly what I wanted.
Hope out works for the Note, too, when it's available.

If your TV doesn't have dnla, Then get a dnla ready home theater / blue ray player
Those are your only two choices for wireless streaming from your Note to your TV. And it works really well.

Wireless HDMI transfer?

Is it possible to transfer (stream) video from the Note to a tv that doesn't have Wi-Fi but HDMI ports? I have an HDMI dongle for my Note but would love to get rid of the cable.

Not sure of wireless hdmi but If your TV is dlna compatible and has a LAN port then you can.
Of course you need a LAN router for that.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
No LAN port, it is a generation before that, by it ha two HDMI ports, that is why I was going there might be a solution that allows me to hold my device and not be bothered by cable.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
The ONLY solution (besides MHL-HDMI cable) is from HTC.
They make a box that plugs in the USB and in the HDMI (2 connections) to your TV.
You can then "send" DLNA content from your device to the HTC Box, which graphs it on your TV.
I wish DLNA death because it is fundamentally flawed.
I rather that there was a little adapter/dongle that can connect to your TV's HDMI. This is just a (dual-channel) Wifi antenna.
Then using your phone you find the (high-speed N) Wifi network and connect to it.
You obviously need to enter in the password that comes in the box of the dongle.
Then once you're connect, your phone should automatically mirror the screen and beam it over the Wifi protocol. Otherwise, through an App to start the process.
If you think its impossible, it isn't you have a lot of bandwidth on the high-speed Wifi network, enough to stream BluRay content (not sure about 4K and 3D). In fact, DLNA is actually Wifi.
The difference between what I'm proposing compared to DLNA is; DLNA sends the data of the movie/music or picture. Its very selective, and doesn't cover many codecs. The other point is DLNA has to buffer, meaning, it downloads a portion of the movie, then the Player begins the movie. In the meantime, it streams patches of the movie to make it continuous. It means you cannot scroll/fast-forward until that scene is actually uploaded into the Player. If its not, it buffers again, and you wait.
Another point is, when playing Apps, like Angry Birds that can't be pushed over DLNA. However streaming it over Wifi means it will work. Because the protocol isn't dependant on the type of file, it just sends over what's on the phone like a regular HDMI connection does. And that's what I want "wireless HDMI" not DLNA, there's a massive difference.
My frnd has this. dont know if it works with phones but works gr8 with laptops.
Re: a straightforward WiFi->HDMI I totally agree, and DLNA must die. As I have a PC plugged into my TV Id love to find a simple desktop program that can take footage from my phone, but no joy yet.

I guess I dont understand why anyone has all their media on their phone if they have a pc hooked up to their tv.
VLC Remote works great for me where my media library is accessible through my htpc. I also use all-in-one remote for navigating the pc outside of VLC.

It is useful when you visit friends or family. There are other situations than just your own home where you want to consume media on a larger screen than a tab or phone.

Allshare Cast with Samsung Smart TV and Note 2

Hey guys. I am wondering what is the purpose of the Allshare cast dongle? Would I need it still if I have a samsung smart tv (UN55ES8000 series)?
I can use my note 2 as a remote control via the app Allshare control. I can view my gallery images into the tv via Allshare Play. However, if I go to settings -> More settings -> Allshare Cast, it tells me that there are no devices nearby.... Isn't allshare built into the tv? Or is allshare cast something totally different?

AllShare Cast Dongle is to wirelessly mirror your phone screen to TV like Airplay, iPad/iphone to Apple TV.
Allshare Cast "mirroring" won't work with Smart TVs without the dongle. and if you want to mirror you can buy the MHL adapter or if you want to mirror wirelessly then you need the Allshare Cast Dongle which costs $99.

Dongle works with Galaxy S3 and NOTE2.

i didn't buy the Allshare cast Dongle coz i think $99 is expensive for a device that only Mirror wirelessly and nothing else so i don't know if it lags when watching HD videos but if you only want to play HD movie you can do that using DLNA since you have Samsung Smart TV. I have a Sony Smart Tv and watching HD movie wirelessly using DLNA works perfectly without any Lag.
I bought the allshare cast dongle and it's awesome. It's easy to stop and use plus no lag. I was bored out of my mind at my in laws but this dongle saved the day. I connected it to their tv, watched a few movies I had downloaded and voila, no longer bored plus I saved the day w some entertainment.

Bangsters, try playing a movie and allshare it from your phone. I have a 6050 series dumb tv with a smart sammy bd player. I can download 720p tv shows on my phone and allshare them to the bd player from the stock video app. It looks just like I had my laptop hooked to my receiver with hdmi and stays in sync. I was VERY surprised.

thanks for the advice guys. Unfortunately, what I wanted to accomplish is impossibe with the Allshare Play app. What I wanted to do was get rid of my appletv and start collecting all my digital movies via google play. However, movies rented or purchased via google play cannot be streamed using allshare play. It cannot even be played with any other player except the google movie & tv player (the one with the red icon).
So I guess the only way to do it now is really though allshare cast dongle if I wana do it wirelessly.
Bummer, now I think I bought a useless samsung smart tv and just burned huge hole in my pocket could have saved a lot by buying a basic led tv and an allshare cast dongle.

Can you use the AllShare cast dongle while connected to a WiFi network? I was wanting to use it for Netflix and pandora and I don't have a cellular signal in my room. I had heard that it might not be able to connect to a wifi network while using the screen mirroring functionality. Thanks for your help.

Just make sure both devices are connected to the home network, open up your video player to play the movie, and in the upper left corner of the screen is a little icon like a monitor. I'll have a number in it corresponding to how many dlna devices it is seeing. Click that icon and select your bd player. I'll say processing on your tv for a couple seconds and start playing!

Does anyone has experience with watching Foxtel on a Samsung smart TV via a Samsung dongle with mirror image wirelessly from an iPad ? The iPad needs WiFi to play Foxtel which I am not sure may interfere with the dongle's wireless signals ? Thanks !

Sort of. Chromecast can show a few things (YouTube, Google Play, Hulu Plus, NetFlix) on your TV. It is controlled by an Android device (like the Nexus) but it isn't streaming it from there.
However, on a desktop browser (but not from the Nexus, that I know of) you can have it more or less grab your screen and put it on the TV. Then you can show anything but video performance is only so-so and that's if you have a screaming fast computer and network.
Why you can't do that from Android, I have no idea -- it may be because of things like Hulu being paranoid about missing out on the mobile market.

Chromecast is not mirroring. You need special apps that have Chromecast capability to stream. And currently there are very few apps that can do that (Netflix, Youtube, etc.). You can not even mirror pictures or recorded videos (yet).
There are 3 ways (that I'm aware of) to mirror (listed in order or reliability):
1. Use a long cable (wired method). You need a slimport adapter and a long HDMI cable. There are mixed reviews and many are reporting the cheaper slimport adapters aren't working well. I use the one made by Kanex and it works well, but it's on the more expensive side at about $30.
2. Miracast (wireless) - This is similar to Widi and may be compatible with some Widi units. You need a TV that has a widi adapter built-in or you need to purchase a Widi Adapter for your TV. I have a Belkin Screencast which connects to my TV via HDMI and is a Widi adapter. The latest firmware allow it to do Mracast as well. However, I had to try several times until I got it to connect. I bought the Belkin Screencast a year ago to work with my laptop, but it was unreliable as it disconnected every few minutes. Hoping the latest firmware update would fix some issues. I just connected it today to my Nexus 7 and need to do further testing.
3. Google TV (wireless) - You need a TV with a built-in Google TV box or a separate Google TV box. There are apps that you can add to both the Google TV box and your Nexus which allow mirroring. However, I found this to be unreliable. The apps really slowed down my Logitech Google TV box. Lots of lag as well.
Nothing beats the good old wired slimport cable. However, I've seen Youtube videos showing great success using Mracast with other branded Miracast adapters (maybe it's just the Belkin that has issues).
Good luck!
Just a quick question, can I switch the screen off on my mobile when mirroring to tv via slimport? I want to use xbmc on nexus to watch tv on my tv screen and use Bluetooth mouse to control it so I don't need my nexus screen to be on.
Thanks

No. Slimport will mirror whatever is on your screen to your TV. If the Nexus screen is blank, the TV screen will be blank too.
Obviously a Slimport connected to the Nexus 7 is the way to go. Then it is just HDMI.
I do have a question, can you please recommend a specific slimport model where someone has had success with the airport.
