I realize most questions are asked multiple times but I haven't seen this one. Forgive me if it's a redo.
Background: Stock, rooted with 100+ items frozen with TB and a 4200 mah Hyperion battery. Historically (or hysterically depending on your point of view) my battery life has been measured in days not hours. The best I ever got was 4 days, 11 hours and 12 minutes with 15% remaining.
About a week ago my battery started draining in less than a day, which I would call a pretty radical change. Of course the first question that I asked myself was "What the hell did I install that caused this?" Uninstalled a couple of things, rebooted, yada, yada, yada, all to no avail. Finally restored a nandroid backup from last month, again to no avail and there were only four apps that were missing: Flipboard, YPyellow pages, Yelp and Where. Additionally, the phone was always warm which, of course, is indicitive of activity.
When I looked at the battery stats, they were different than anything I had ever seen: Media - 90%, Screen - 3%, OS - 2% with only a couple of catagories. I had never seen the media catagory before and when I expanded, it showed as associated apps as Download, Download and 3 other items (I should have done a screenshot). With two download folders 1 internal and 1 on SDcard I looked in them. Earlier in the month I had installed Seeder but uninstalled it in a couple of days. During that period of time I didn't notice any unusal battery drainage. However, the Seeder apk was still in the external download folder and when I tried to delete it with Astro, it would not delete. I finally opened Root Explorer and it told me that it was write protected. After going to R/W mode, it deleted and within an hour or so my battery stats went back to normal with no Media catagory listed and the temperature is normal.
The question is: Can anybody explain this? It makes no sense to me that an uninstalled apk on an external SD card could cause a battery drainage problem like that. Today at 15:45 MST I have 89% of my battery left. Yesterday at this time it was <38% with about the same usage. My only explanation is that it's PFM (pure freaking magic) but we know that's not the case. I have since reinstalled the four missing apps and everything's still normal.
If anybody has any thoughts, I'd appreciate feedback. Thanks in advance.

So I've been running the RCMix3d for a week or two now, and everything has been great. Generally, after 16 hours or so I have 40% left on my extended battery (both on stock and RCMix3d). Now for the last two days, I've been getting this extreme battery drop where my phone dies in something like 10 hours.
I have no idea what it is, I thought it might be the newest facebook update (and facebook in the past was a CPU hog), but this time neither facebook nor any other offending app was appearing in the "Battery Use" chart. Everything seems completely normal, my battery use percentages are just about where they were when everything was fine. Watchdog is not showing any apps exceeding over the default threshold.
What can this be?!
Thank you
Run a dumpsys power command from a terminal. I bet you have a wake lock.

Too bad I wasn't patient enough to wait. I have reflashed stock already. Out of curiosity, what could cause a "wake lock"?

are you on GSM or having no signal ??
something like that happened to me ( battery dies quickly ) , and the reason was phone is searching for network all the time
So, I've been having battery issues for awhile now, and they only got worse with the most recent Sprint update. I'm not a battery management rookie, and I've been consuming info on posts and threads for some time now trying to figure out the issue. Turning off options or syncs doesn't seem to do anything (and I've toggled almost everything off and on with no measurable effect to battery).
MediaServer was an issue for awhile, and I went through and located and pulled all 0kb media files and MediaServer has dropped back down to no longer being a major wakelock/battery issue.
I have no one app that seems to the issue when I check SETTINGS->Battery, or GSAM battery stats or WakeLock Detector. It's always just "Android System" and "Kernal". But I have noticed over the past several days that "VOICEMAIL" in consistently in the top THREE when it comes to WakeLock (see photo).
Problem is, I haven't received more than a handful of calls in the past several days (I mostly use texts to communicate. Just preference - don't judge), and none of them used voicemail. Why would voicemail be at the top of the wake list?
Any ideas on this one? I can't really uninstall voicemail (I tried to "disable" it in settings, but that's not really possible...understandably), plus I would like to keep it around. It's a bit of a necessity with phones.
I am running a Sprint GS3 on the newest update and unrooted (although I might root again if that would solve the problem). I am going to try and do a factory wipe today and start over again to see if that solves the issue (I've already wiped CACHE and that did very little). Maybe updating made something not work with each other.
I've been searching threads for a few days now, and I see nothing about voicemail and battery drain. Is it supposed to be that high on the list? Am I missing something else?
Thanks.

EDIT - Oh, and the phone has been off the charger for only 2 hours and it has dropped 20% while NOT BEING USED at all...aside from sitting in my pocket. The apps that are opened are because for ten minutes I went through and wrote down what I needed to reinstall after the factory wipe. I had tapped some of the apps while moving screens around. It was at about 83% before I started that process. That can't be "normal" for battery.
Hey guys
So i recently updated my S3 to 4.4.2 (about 2 weeks ago) and my battery life has become completely horrible afterwards. My phone is rooted and im using the stock Telus 4.4.2 update.
Some days the battery seems ok and other days its completely terrible. Yesterday and today for example i charged up my phone over night (like ive always done), and within an hour the battery dropped about 20% and i did nothing but check the weather for today.
Someone told me there was a camera issue and to just open and close the app and that would fix that issue...... made no difference. I dont have skype installed since i heard there was a battery drain issue with that app as well.
The only thing i have running in the background constantly is WeatherBug, WidgetLocker, NiLS, & GSAM Battery Monitor (both of which i used before the update to 4.4.2). I tried rebooting into recovery mode and clearing my cache and that made no difference either.
I even use an app called Greenify to put some apps in hibernate that i dont use often.
I have location turned off (like always) and i changed all my sync settings to sync only the stuff i need (work email and contacts basically). I dont have the cloud setup to backup anything, nor do i have anything setup under Backup and Reset either (again like always).
I have very limited data so ive gone though every single app under Data Usage and told them all to restrict background data. Im on wifi 99% of the time anyways (at work and home. the only time im not on wifi is when im driving). Ive turned off the stupid HP and Samsung print service plug-ins as well.
The only thing i really do on my phone is check my email when it comes through (which is set to sync every hour). Mayyyybe the odd quick facebook check, and text back and forth with my wife. And whenever im not using the phone i always lock it immediately after, otherwise the screen timeout is set to 30 seconds. Ive also got my brightness adjustment set to low.
Basically im at my wit's end on what to try next. Here are a couple screen shots ive just taken. Please help?
Edit: I should also mention that before i updated to 4.4.2 i was on 4.3 and my battery life was way better. At the end of the day i would be at roughly 30-50% battery life on average. It all depends on what i did with my phone during the day. I also notice that for some reason when the battery gets below 40-50% now it will drop off like crazy, especially when im at home for some reason.

Well the stats you posted don't look bad.
To really know what's draining your battery though, you should install BBS (BetterBatteryStats), which can be found on here, in the app section. Let it monitor a full charge and post the results.
Alright i'll install that and post the results when i get them.
Said to hell with it and installed CM 11 on my S3 and now the phone is a HELL of alot faster and the battery life is just insane!
Thanks anyways!
I noticed you said your data is limited. To save data and battery life, give my lightweight app a shot, LeanDroid. There's a thread here on XDA with thousands of happy users

Same issue with 4.4.2 update
I took the OTA 4.4.2 update and my battery life took a big dump as well as the battery / phone started getting hot. At first I just thought my extended 4200 mah battery was on the way out ....so I bought a new one and still have the same problem. So upset that I took that update ....and surprised not to find more complaints here. I assume I can go back to 4.3 or whatever the previous version is ?? Anyone have any suggestions??
(Conspiracy theory) This is probably AT&T 's way of getting people to buy new phones.
The SG3 is stock / unrooted
I'm not sure if it's more appropriate to post here
or on the custom ROM forum itself, but here's my battery issue:
Issue: Abnormally fast battery drain. My battery would
be fully charged, and almost immediately start draining until
it'd show 1% within 2 hrs. Screen would be off mostly (normal
use).
Been on a custom ROM since January 2017 (crDroid) and have had no problems with it since,
except 3 days ago, when the problem first appeared.
Things that are ON: LTE data (or Wi-fi), Auto apps update on
Google Play Store (never been problematic before), Location,
Things that are OFF: Bluetooth, ScreenCast, Caffeine
When I check Battery in Settings, the numbers don't add up.
I'd have battery indicator at 70% for example, but Screen,
Android System, all other apps would add up to only 7%. So
that's a whopping 23% unaccounted for.
But here's the weird thing: it drains fast until 1%, then at 1%,
the phone is supposed to initiate automatic shutdown like it has before.
When this issue cropped up, the phone keeps going for about 6 hours
or so before shutdown is started. Checking Kernel Adiutor occasionally,
I'd see a much slower decrease in voltage which probably reflects
more accurately the power drawdown situation.
Things I've done:
-clear cache (both through File Explorer and TWRP Recovery)
-clear batterystats.bin
-calibrate battery after full charge/discharge (via Root Essentials,
which basically does the same thing as manually deleting batterystat.bin,
if I'm not mistaken)
-Resetting App Preferences via Setting/Battery
None of the above has worked. Any idea what might be wrong?
My device is a Zuk Z1, with a 4100mAh battery. It usually lasts me more
than a day on normal use, but as the attached pic shows, it's at 96%
yet without having used any apps yet, has only 2 hrs of juice left.
I've tried reflashing my ROM, wiping everything including formatting data
yet nothing has worked.
I'm a light user, as I don't play games or watch videos on my phone.
Neither do I use graphics-intensive apps. I haven't used processor-intensive apps
that require constant GPS (like Google Maps, Waze) since then.
OK, I've flashed 3 other ROMs: Citrus-CAF, NucleaROM and stock, and the problem persists.
By doing the above, I've crossed out the possibility of it being the ROM. Neither is it the battery
itself, because it would've shut down by itself at 1%, yet at 1% I can last 6 or 7 hours of light use.
Anyone out there have any idea?
Hello.
I've bought a G4 in March and only 20 days ago I've started to notice a odd and big battery drain. Android tells me it's "Android SO" consumption. What once drained like up to 5%, now drains more than screen. 20 days ago, battery lasted like 34h. With same usage now, turned 12h.
I've uninstalled the apps I've installed meanwhile, used it in battery eco mode and even on airplane mode, without any luck.
4-5 days ago I've installed Wake Lock Detector (no root, but with the right permissions) and Better Battery Stats. From what I understand from the reports, they don't blame any specific app but show thousands of wakelocks on Android SO. I believe sometimes it can be normal (for instance, when I run with GPS and music). Anyway, maybe the issue lies here.
What I find really odd is that those 2 apps say that the phone is awake more than 90% of the time. Like 1h of deep sleep only per full battery.
I could understand if someone says that it's the battery that had a great use already, but not only has 7 months of use, but also the phone behaviour changed (Android SO was never so high before, at least constantly).
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Suggest you check out and install the apps recommended apps on ✭[GUIDE][26-07-2016]Extreme Battery Life Thread(Greenify+Amplify+Power Nap)✭ at https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884
Read the OP thoroughly for each app discussed. The wakelock situation can be helped a good deal with Amplify and Greenify in particular - the paid versions - but I would also install AppOppsXposed - all require Xposed which requires root in order to be installed and I would also check out Power Nap to see if any incremental improvement.
You may a also want to run a malware scan ...
Thanks for the info. I checked it earlier, but most of those apps only run in root phones. I'm waiting for official Nougat in G4, mostly because haven't saw yet a Nougat image for this device without any problems, like camera not working, or such. I wouldn't mind to pay for apps that could work on this, but I want to avoid rooting. I guess I rather put Android 7, that has a bigger chance to even solve this problem, than root at this time.
Haven't said earlier but did a factory reset yesterday and device kept the behavior... I believe a hard reset would reduce almost to 0 the eventual malware problem.
No obvious alternatives for not rooted phones? Haven't this happened to someone else and been solved?
Thanks!
I had the same problem a few weeks ago...i was loosing ~30% of the battery at night with no wifi/data/gps etc. I tried everything...factory resets, different roms, greenfy & those kind of apps but the phone would not sleep. The last thing i tried was a factory reset and after i logged into my gmail account i set the phone as a new device...so no restoring apps and backups from my gmail account. Now everything is ok, my phone sleeps like a baby. I've read somewhere that it might be related with the syncing & backups....i don't really know, but you can give it a try.

Haven't tried that yet. I'll try to remove and add the device again, to avoid the pain of a new hard reset.
To have a reference, it was good to know an average percentage of other G4 deep sleep. If everyone has around 90%... maybe it's not a problem at all. The "sleep like a baby" is which percentage? Also, there are plenty babies that wake up hourly crying for a period of time...
Thanks for the tip!

My phone was awake >90% of the time(when screen was off), even in flight mode, when it had "the problem". Now things are back to normal...~2% awake when the screen is off.
Hello again.
Tried to reset a couple more times, tried to remove old phone register in my gmail account, but I wasnt successful.
How you did the
"The last thing i tried was a factory reset and after i logged into my gmail account i set the phone as a new device..."
?
Once it asks for my account, I'm not able to set it's a new device. I also did no restores... Is there a way to disconnect devices from Google account? I was only able to do so in devices I connected like one month, or more, ago, but not able to do so in the device I'm using at the moment.
One thing I did not try but that would confirm your thesis is to register device with a new account.
Anyone with an alternative?
I'm hoping LG really releases Nougat for G4 in 2017...
Today, the device returned to normality without any intervention. I can only imagine the following: since last factory reset I've disabled some apps I didn't used, like Google books, or Google music, but only yesterday I did a normal reboot (due to huge battery drain...). Eventually, some updates just took place after this reset. Anyway, even having imagined this theory, I don't believe in it. Wizardry, I bet.
