Does anyone else have this issue or just me

Sounds like a rom issue because handcent works fine for me with that feature on sky rom

I'm having the same issue, it just started after the OTA update the other day... it happens in both handcent & stock msging app. I've sent this person a billion msgs before but now when i type in the name it doesn't appear... I have to go into my contacts and select it individually. I've restarted my phone, cleared cache, done everything I can think of save for uninstalling and reinstalling handcent but since it happens with the stock sms as well I don't think handcent is the issue...
it also only happens with a select few contacts (naturally the one person I text most, and a couple others) ... help?

whenever I have issues with handcent, I clear the data for the app through application manager and uninstall handcent/reinstall...My Note 2 on Cleanrom 4.0.5 works fine with Handcent

Double msgs @messaging.sprintpcs.com

I am running SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.2 (Malanga)
It is nothing short of awsome. I just noticed that I am recieving two of the same messages sent to (phone#)@messaging.sprintpcs.com
I think this is SMS ... (not sure) any ideas? Messages sent from another phone come through correctly.
I also use handcent and it is also showing a duplicate message.
Can the stock messaging be removed?
I did install Handcent via CW from a .zip file from a midNIGHT ROM extras folderand it works perfectly, but i wonder if it has something to do with it.
Go into the stock messenger app:
Goto menu/settings and uncheck
1. Notifications
2. Receive automatically
3. and any other boxes that are checked..
And no if you remove the stock messaging apps it will break your mms, from downloading/sending...

Random texts

Anyone getting random texts from a 8737 number? I get them repeativly and look like this

These are from third-party sms apps. GO SMS or Handcent are the two main culprits. It has to do with a conflict between them, Sprint visual voicemail and the default messaging app.
If you use go or handcent, uncheck the option to disable other message notification (In GoSMS it is Settings|Advanced|Recieve Settings|Disable other message notification ) then reboot. This should take care of the problem.
If GO SMS... uninstall and reinstall... there are directions somewhere that fixed this for me.
Load the stock voicemail app and let it privision itself. Then wipe GoSMS data or uninstall/reinstall.
I learned to always load the voicemail app first whenever I change ROMs now
I am having " 8xxx??" Show up in my texts. Any answer??

"Hidden Sender Address" notification will not go away

I keep getting a notification from all the different SMS apps I have tried that is called "Hidden Sender Address". When you click on it, it takes you to the app but not to a message. Chomp SMS indicates it is an MMS message. I cant find any unread message in the stock app or any aftermarket ones.
Regardless, I cant find it to delete and it wont stop showing up in the notification bar. Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of this?

OP, have you been able to fix this issue? I just received the update to Jellybean and am currently suffering from the same issue. I have tried deleting all messages and clearing the app cache but haven't been able to get rid of this notification.
I'm actually receiving the same false notification and it started today for no reason other than opening an mms. On galaxy s3 CM10 preview
Nope...havent found an official fix. If I use Chomp, it doesnt appear. GO and Handcent and it shows back up anytime I receive a new message.

If you're using a 3rd party messenging app, disable the auto-retrive MMS. Go to Stock messenger and enable auto-retrieve MMS.
I use Chomp and this fixed the problem for me. Hope it helps.

Yes this is how I got around it but I couldnt find the options in Go or Handcent to disable MMS retrieval. So I am stuck with Chomp which is not the best of the three IMO.
Just started getting this today as well on GO SMS. Easiest fix- Option key, More, Mark All Read. Cleared them out for me and the notifications thay wouldn't go away are gone.

In handcent you can go to "receiving message settings" and disable auto retrieve. My sister uses handcent and hasn't received any MMS problems since.
Hey guys. I had this pop up last night after receiving 2 MMS in a row. Setting the auto retrieve off did not fix it but "mark all read" did. Just to let you all know.
I am on Motorola Atrix CM10 4.1.1 using Handcent
I believe there is a feature to mark certain contacts/conversions as secret. That I'd what that notification is. Look in your settings for something that refers to that. Those messages don't go to inbox but separate folder. Think you might have to password them to access.

I think what you are talking about is the private inbox. Those still come up and go away just like normal text messages except they bounce to the private box. That is not what we are talking about here though

Just wanted to say thanks for this. I have a Galaxy S III and started getting this as soon as I got 4.1 on my phone, drove me nuts. Just googled hidden sender address and found this thread.
Hidden Sender Address notification !!!FIX!!!
I was having this problem the other day after installing a jellybean messaging app. It worked fine for a day or so then I started getting "Hidden Sender Address" all the time and then wasn't even able to delete my texts. I would delete the entire conversation and it would still show that there was a conversation there, but it was all empty.
I contacted at&t to see if they had any ideas and the only thing they could come up with was factory reset. Screw that I knew there had to be another way. I'll never trust them completely!
I contacted the creator of the app and this is what he had me do and it did work:
If you have root you can clear the DB by deleting this file (apparently):
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
Of course that will delete all your SMS and MMSs, but you can
(hopefully) back them up to gmail and restore them afterwards using
SMS Backup+.

If anyone has any ideas on how to do this file deletion without root (on a Galaxy Nexus 4.2), I'd be very grateful! Thank you.

Why cant he just update the app to fix this issue?
Any news on this fix by the developer?
FIX!!!!
OK Everyone. I have resolved this issue on my Galaxy SIII and your are more than welcome to replicate this but beware, you may lose your SMS history.
First you can either delete all SMS. I didn't want to do this for obvious reasons.
Second, scroll all the way to the bottom of all your SMS. If like me you have oodles of them this might be annoying and take a while. At the bottom I found a sender called 'ANONYMOUS'!!!! Sounds ominous doesn't it.
I deleted this thread and since then I have nto had this message appear. ALTHOUGH.... i lost all my SMS as a result.... LOL whoops. bug time!
Please note. I also disabled auto download MMS, cleared badgeholder cache (which temporarily works), readded SMS icon and disabled google hangout from picking up SMS and neither of these permanently resolved the issue but feel free to try these first as you probably should do as they are non destructive.

[Q] Handcent SMS Issue

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on this. I am using Handcent for messaging, and I use the popup feature. Anytime I send a text, the last word of the text I send stays in the input field for the message. So I have to delete the word before I start typing my next message. I am using the Swype keyboard, and to be honest I haven't tried to see if it does it with the Samsung keyboard, but regardless has anyone seen this before?
Also, does anyone have a messaging app that has the popup feature that they like better than Handcent?
Thanks in advance...
I had that issue once, back up your texts, go to settings, applications, handcent, clear data, then force stop. It worked for me, but also you can try uninstall and reinstalling the app. Hope that helps

[Q] Sending texts causes crash

There are two people (at least) that I can't send text messages to. One is on AT&T and one is on Sprint so their carrier isn't the issue. And it doesn't matter which sms app I use.
When I use Chomp I get this result: "Unfortunately, chomp SMS has stopped."
When I use the stock messaging app I get this result: "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped."
There is no existing thread with these people and their cell phone numbers are valid. When they send me texts everything looks normal on their end but I don't get the message.
I am bone dry stock.
Any ideas? This is very annoying and I probably will have the same problem with other people, I just haven't discovered it yet.
I've never heard of this issue before

I don't think so. How do I check? When I long press their names in the contact list I see an option to "add to reject list" which suggests they aren't blocked. How else can I check?
I don't think I've blocked anyone. Is there a way to check everyone I've blocked? And on a related note, what happens when I add someone to the reject list? If they call me will they go straight to voicemail or what?

Are you opposed to rooting and trying out a ROM? I honestly don't know what's going on, but if it's crashing your sms programs, it sounds to me somehow software or settings related (but I've never seen anything that could do that). Since it's most-likely software related, I'd bet a fresh install would solve it.
But that being said, it's a really bizarre thing to have happened.
I'd try erasing the problem contacts and re-adding them before going too far into it. Very odd problem though, thats for sure!
It does not sound like you have anyone Blocked / Rejected. Did you install any apps before the issue started?

Honestly, I have never heard of this before. Usually, I would never want to bother sprint tech, but I would go show them and see what they think. That is very odd. Have you tried a factory reset? (Backup everything first)

Sprint Galaxy S3 "Supernexus"
Whiplashh Rom
Look it up.
So I'm in a major bind. I realized that the problem was for anyone who I didn't already have a sms thread with. If I send/receive text messages with someone that has an existing thread, it works fine. If they don't have a thread send/receive text fails as I described.
I tried uninstalling Chomp SMS and that didn't help. So I figured there might be some corruption in my text message store so I backed up my sms & mms and then deleted everything. Now I can't send/receive text messages from ANYONE and when I try to restore my text messages it fails. I backed up with two different apps to be safe and they both failed.
At this point it seems like the only option is a factory reset. Does anyone have another suggestion to fix this?
Before doing a factory reset I'd like to back everything up but I'm not rooted yet and to make matters worse I'm on vacation with my Mac rather than my Windows laptop -- so rooting is not possible. I don't want to do a factory reset and lose everything but I can't be away for this many days without the capability to send/receive text messages. Especially since people who are texting me have no idea I'm not getting their texts. FML
Turn on Mobile Data. Update Profile & PRL, Turn off your mobile data.
Backup export your contacts list. should be like a
Contacts.VCF file.
And backup your SMS messages if possible
Go into applications / All Applications > Wipe Data for both messaging apps + Wipe Contacts list.
Turn off your sync for contacts.
Reboot your device.
Open up both messaging apps and tweak / change what ever you need in the settings for both applications.
Turn on your data and reset LTE/CMDA CMDA/EVDO back and forth once
Reboot your phone.
Import your contacts list.
Re-sync your contacts.
Then try messaging them.
If that doesn't work then I have no clue what'll help with your issue being non-rooted.

I tried this, it didn't work.
Now I have another problem. When I try to sync my contacts, after restoring them from the backup, I'm getting an error. The error says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Maybe it will be back shortly but in my experience with a similar problem with calendar syncing a couple years back, this is not so easy to fix.
Any suggestions?
Your firmware and base is updated to MD4 right?
EDIT:
Have you tried Go SMS Pro Using this method?
Download from Google play
Open application and go to settings
Click Advanced Tab.
Click MMS Settings
Checkmark Fill APN Configuration Manually.
Code:
MMSC
http://mms.sprintpcs.com
MMS Proxy
68.28.31.7
MMS Port
80
Force Close application, and then reboot it, and now try sending something SMS or MMS.
Yes, I'm on MD4.
I actually think MD4 may have something to do with this. The first time I noticed the problem was right around the time I installed MD4. It was within a day, either right before or right after. For some reason Sprint pushed MD4 to may waaaaay after everyone else got it which is why I just recently got it.
I tried your Go SMS Pro technique but got not joy. The stock messaging app still crashes. Go SMS doesn't crash when I send messages but nothing is actually sent. And whenever someone sends me text messages I still don't get them.
