[Q] Move to SD Galaxy S2 style? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I came from S2 and my SD was very useful moving apps to SD.
Question: What has to happen in order for us to move apps 2 sd, is it even possible with the note2?

That feature is no longer available with JB. You can root your phone and install the external to internal sd mod. I'm running Jedi master 7, perseus kernel and the external to internal sd mod with a 64 gig card and it works great.

I'm on Jedi 7.2, I guess I just have to flash perseus kernel?
Is it easy to setup external and internal?

It's not difficult. It's recommended you clean flash the Rom, then perseus, then the external to internal sd mod, in that order, and before the initial reboot. That's what I did and it works perfectly. Seems like issues arise if not installed in that method.

Do you have link to this mod?

I've tried ext to int storage, GL to SD, Directory Binding, etc.. but each mod had issues and aren't flash friendly (I flash new ROMs all the time). Hoping one of these great devs we have here comes up with a better solution soon.

I used to be a flashaholic, but now if I find a combination that works I leave it. I have so many apps on my phone with the 64 gig card and have no issues. I even have Sygic GPS app with all the state's saved on my phone. I haven't tried flashing a new rom since I set the external to internal mod up. I do use Ti backup tho and would assume that I could clean flash a new Rom, flash perseus kernel, flash external to internal mod then use ti backup to restore all my apps again. I use nova launcher pro and could backup and restore my launcher settings too. It wouldn't be hard to do but would require more time then I'd like to spend right now, considering I have a configuration that works flawlessly. If it ain't broke don't fix it...

[MOD]App2ExtSD2 [Works for all U.S. Galaxy S3!]

This is a hack that that allows you to swap internal storage with your external SD card so you can increase your app data storage.
All credits go to original i9300 App2ExtSD Hack by mattiadj. I simply hacked it to work with U.S. versions and also I've added code so it will disable this feature when you don't have a microSD card inserted (app storage will default to internal when no microSD card is inserted).
E.g. If you have 16GB internal storage on Galaxy S3, you can install this witih a 64GB microSD card and swap the storage and get 64GB on your app storage instead of 16GB.
Before you can use this, you will need:
1) Rooted Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535/SPH-L710/SGH-T999/SCH-I747) or also Canadian versions too (i747m, etc...etc...)
2) A ROM/kernel with init.d support!
3) I've only tested this with TouchWiz-based ROMs, so it should work on stock ROMs and any TouchWiz-based ROMs, not sure on CM9 or CM10.
4) You must use the FAT32 or EXTFAT zip file below, depending on what format your microSD Card is in! (e.g. if you have a FAT32 microSD card, use FAT32)
To get this working, simply flash the zip files in your CWM Recovery:
Download and Details:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-t...-external-microsd-for-u-s-canadian-galaxy-s3/
If you are on stock ROM or any TouchWiz-based ROMs, you can flash my new HighOnAndroid kernel to get init.d support on your phone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30718496
If you do not have init.d support, you can also enable on any rooted phone by using Script Manager, here's a quick tutorial:
I recommend you to FORMAT your microSD card once to get camera working flawless before using this hack!
How to disable this:
If for some reason you are having trouble, simply delete /system/etc/init.d/11extsd2internalsd.
OR
if you leave your microSD card out during boot (then re-insert it after), your phone will work as normal (internal storage used for app data).
Sounds awesome thanks

Is it best to wipe first, or will this move all the app data from the internal to the external for you?

It is best to do a wipe to start on a clean slate, or you can also copy the contents of your internal to external.
OR, I like using Titanium Backup to backup app and its data then restore after putting in the microSD card.
it works great, thanks for the mod, will report if I find any problem w/ it.
Great work max! I was using stock rooted rom.. Now I need to look for one I like that has int d support.
Thanks for this though appreciate it!

Would it be possible for you to create a Stock kernel with just the init.d supporthe?
My SD card is reporting "vFat" as the type......is that FAT32 or EXTFAT or neither? lol
yes let me see if i can upload it tomorrow

I meant format. Sorry about that. Autocorrect got me again.
This is great! I'm curious if this mod sticks if I flash an updated/new rom? Do I need to flash this zip after I flash the rom? Also, what happens if I wipe my phone when I have this mod? Do I need to re flash as well?

A couple questions...

1. In twrp can I format my internal sdcard and then flash a ROM from my external sdcard to make it completely fresh? Will this reorganize everything back to just what the ruin has in it?
2. I see allot of posts on the 4.2.1 sdcard0/0/0 issue. I have gotten the newest twrp and am told it won't do it anymore? Does it only do this when going back and fourth from 4.1 ROMs and 4.2 ROMs? And will doing ? #1 fix this mess? Doesn't seen to be taking up any space on my internal sd just seems messy and I would like to understand it more, but from what I read it's never really explained well. I know it's for multiple users.

Your backups are made on the internal sd so if you format it, you'll format those as well. Also, flashing is made from the root of the internal to make sure everything goes fine.
Not so sure about your 2nd question though.
1. Yes you can. My nan backups are on my external. Once in awhile I do format internal and flash a fresh ROM. Remember though..some app settings and saved data are on internal. Also make sure you back up your pics..if you have them on internal. Make sure the files you need to flash are actually on your external before you wipe LOL
I have my nandroids and my PiCs on my external SD... and the roms I want to flash... anything else I need on the external to format my internal? Don't care about app data and stuff.

Could always make a backup of your efs folder before going ahead with this. Should be done either way

I usually just use something like root explorer and browse the folders on my internal just to be sure. Sometimes I forget there may be an apk i want and its in my download folder. And make sure you have your titanium back up stuff if thats important to you

Need more information. What ROM did you flash. How did you fry your SD? are you SURE you changed the settings? If this is just a problem with stock browser is a simple solution to just remove it and use a better one?
intergalactic 2.4 and I was coming from urban ROM and now it's saying my SD card is blank and I can't connect it to my PC or Mac neither of them detect the card and I'm 100% sure I check the browser settings
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I have as well fried a few external SD cards. I always remove mine when I flash a new ROM. I just fried my girlfriends.
I do not have experience with intergalactic 2.4. I suggest running a Nandroid backup.. trying to flash over a new ROM or reinstalling intergalactic 2.4. See if that fixes the issue. Or just using a different browser if you're not too attached to the stock. I run Hellfire 1.4. Love the ROM. Hopefully someone else will have a different/better suggestion than that for you.
Best of luck!
does removing the card before you flash a rom saves it from being damaged?

The MetroPCS version of the S3 is model # RCH-R530M. By installing the D2MTR ROM, you have changed the build.prop to reflect this. Flashing firmwares for a different model number is extremely risky and you are quite lucky you didn't brick your phone. Try making your backup to external directly from recovery mode. This may just be an issue with ROM Manager.
OK thanks i do my backup directly from recovery in the future
Where i can find step to follow for flashing CM 10.3.1 stable d2att and gapps ???
SGH-I747M (CM 10.1.3-d2mtr)

[Q] Does move to SD work for you with android 4.3?

One of the features the 4.3 update was supposed to bring was the ability to move apps to the external card. I upgraded to Omega ROM v19 which is based on the official Samsung 4.3 and I do have the option in "Applications manager", and when I click on it shows that it moved it, but free space on either internal or external storage remains unchanged. Did anybody have more success with this with either the stock rom or some custom one?
It works... somewhat. I found that it only moves a very small portion of the app, so far a big 1.5gb game, it may only move 50mb. I just use foldermount (paid version) and have at least 10gb moved to my sd card and I leave small apps on my device.
