Hello users.
VPN always baffles me.
Some say free internet.
Does it mean any amount of internet for no charges whatsoever or does it mean no restriction to porn and all?
Could anyone set me up a VPN?
I am in India so probably Wasimk32, akul, sadi, and many more peeps must be using it!
Thanks!!!!!
nope no free internet !
its virtual private network, when using wifi it provides you with security and privacy. Its kind of a network firewall.
So,if on public wifi you can do anything you want without getting spied !
Are you quite sure?
I read like tens of posts stating free usage of internet. One thread below has all mixed up replies. This is just for security!!??!!
Sorrowed!
yup,i tried it in initial days seeking free internet but ended up being disappointed !
there should be carrier support for it,tried with docomo, airtel, bsnl but with no luck at all
There is no such thing as free internet or dinner lol
Thanks guys.
I tried it with !dea so that carrier is gone too.
Anyway I am disappointed too...
There is nothing free in this world, well why should it be?
One thing wasim, do you know any permission denying app or mod or hack or tweak for sense?
Its beautifully embeded in cyanogen.

Hi,
Been using adfree for a while now and i have to say it's a fantastic app, however i've been using Leedroid (which is a brilliant rom may i add) and the ad's are getting through on each and every prog which would have them.
Am i missing something or is this little prog come to and end of usefullness ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i hate adverts, they're evil
Did you update AdFree's files?
Sometimes it's a cat and mouse deal. Google are always providing new servers to serve up ads from and then you have to wait until the new hosts are included in an adfree update.

Yes, repeatedly, I uninstalled it a few times, even wiped the dalvic cache and other cache on phone guessing it might have helped but nothing, this is the first time it's not worked for me.

Thanks for all these answers, i appreciate it, but is there defo nothing else it could be?

The new hosts are 100% the issue. I have noticed same myself. A couple of days after ads reappear, adfree announces updates were found (if you have it set to advise you) and after updating and rebooting the ads are gone again.

antivirus will make your phone lag and freeze a second while they scan the installing file, other than that not much fuss
I've been using lookout since last year and it has been great - doesn't slow the phone down at all.

I use common sense + check out comments first + permissions when installing :]
I'm using AVG (free) Antivirus, and I'm very happy with it so far.
I use Antivirus Free

I dont have it running as a service, just use it to scan the phone occasionally.

I was worried about the recent dodgy apps and wasn't going to install anything. my mate suggestied lookout and I thought I would give it a go. it hasn't slowed my phone down at all so I installed it on my Vega as well.

Hmm I've been looking in to this a bit. Am I right in thinking this AV simply uses a list of known malware rather than actually scanning inside a file? Any light on this appreciated.

Highly likely, that's how the devs themselves describe the app. Lookout AV seems to be immensely popular as well, but no description by the dev on how it catches any bad code, which makes it difficult to compare to Antivirus Free.
Which brings up a question on how does AV software for Android actually detect malware. Just like in a PC? Where a list of definitions are installed and everything inside the PC cross-checked against that?
I think the term we're looking for is heuristics.
Eh, definition, heuristics - pardon my French.
Greek apparently, it means to find, cross reference and generally spot patterns and figure stuff out.
Hi guys, since posting this I have download and installed a anti-virus software from the market, its called antivirus LOL its by creative apps. So far its very good doen't use much battery and my phone hasn't slowed down, give it a try its free also
Not convinced there is an actual threat .
Yes you can get some apps that are " iffy" and will send txts etc... but you just have to read about them first .
Remember we are using Linux...how many Linux viruses have there been?? as many as windows???
Read the reviews , and if you are you are unsure.. look on the web ..
most of mine are word of mouth ... so I know they work
Have a feeling a lot of people have already heard about it, but for anyone who hasnt tried it, definitely get it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lbe.security.lite
Its an app manager that lets you control what apps have access to. You can block apps from accessing the internet, viewing your personal info and take away any permissions you dont want it to have.
A big benefit to this also is battery life will go up as a result of blocking apps which always connect to the internet to upload your data or steam ads to you. A lot of freeware apps also have way too many permissions and this lets you effectively block them.
Its the first thing I install everytime I use a new rom
I'm gonna check it out...thanks for posting it

I really appreciate you posting this and letting us know about this app! I don't think I would've come across it otherwise.
So I installed it and I'm just dumbfounded at all the stuff that some apps want access to....Why the f*** does Angry Birds: Space need to access my phone's GPS data?? There's an odd one!
Oh, by the way....a co-worker of mine with an iPhone smugly showed me that the functionality of LBE Privacy Guard app is actually built right into the iOS.
Not trying to turn this into an Android Vs Apple thread, but man, that kinda got under my skin.

If I recall, there's a developer option you can enable in CM7 that allows you to do just this. Just press the permission you want to block when installing the app or afterward. CM9 doesn't (to my knowledge) have this option yet, but I'm sure it will. Good day, iPhone users =).

Its scary how many apps want full control of your phone. Ive seen them wanting to read my contacts list and even control my messaging app. A lot of it has to do with data mining of their customers. All the info they collect from you is pretty valuable and the gps thing is pretty scary too. Theyre able to record your coordinates and report the info back to them. Not to mention its going to kill your battery too with them doing this.
Security apps I use
Droidwall - simple iptables for android
PDroid - like it better than Lbe, takes less resources but needs patch and waiting for ics support
Addons detector - shows which apps have "adware, spyware, etc."
Thanks William for mentioning PDroid. The app thread is here
PDroid gives message saying I needed to build somethingortheother first in order for it to work on my OG EPIC 4G .... LBE working great right outta the box though
Wow its come a long way I remember this when I first got rooted the guy mentioned using this... but its icon was red and the ui was bland they really uped it a notch =] completely forgot about this app thanks.. love it.

if your worried about security and are rooted get LBE security from play it lets you control the permissions of all yours and system apps.
I wan to install it, update and scan my phone, than delete it again, to save memory/battery/performance

I have been using the Dr. Web free version for past 2 years - light and does what it is supposed to do. The paid version has extra features which I do not need.
ESet was good until they made you pay for it!
pdroid is great but doesn't support HOX due to not being s-off yet.
I use avast! Mobile Security.
It has a lot of functions, is free, and won several test of Android-Antivirus Software

and so on...
Lookout
I use lookout. Not sure if the malware virus stuff does anything. Never had it find anything.
But the other features are brilliant. Locate you phone by GPS or getting it to scream. Remotely wiping your phone when you loose it etc. It is one of the first apps I install. To protect me from losing my phone and more importantly all my data.
i use comodo. free for pc and android. have been using it for years
