So I already had songs, pictures, etc on my Nexus 4, now decided to install Airdroid.
The app didn't work as I wanted it but anyway, I opened my Gallery on the Nexus 4 to find out that all my images/photos are gone. The next thing I do is connecting Nexus 4 to my laptop. All folders/files are gone ?! Or maybe they only got moved?
wtf ?!
That's weird. I have air droid and just used it last night. Works great for me.. I don't think stuff can move by themselves after disconnecting. Maybe try a media scanner app. Rescans SD and organizes stuff.. I have this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.clypher.mediascanner

nope re-scanning didn't work... I just wonder what else airdroid could delete... pretty much my whole "internal space" is gone (the space that shows when u connect the nexus to your windows 7)
Flash a Google stock image to your phone.
why would flashing a new OS bring back my old data ?
Sorry I don't know then.. That's a new one for me. Never had that happen..

It may make your storage usable again. But if you try that your old data will be gone.
Well the storage is usable...its just that all my old data is gone. So there is no need for doing that? Atleast aslong as airdroid didn't delete anything else :S
Also: since the only thing i did to m nexus 4 so far was rooting/unlocking, what would be the best way to start from a fresh/new rooted OS?
Did u unlock ur device after having pics/media stored on the SD card?

Ah I did an unlock/root.. but I believe my data was still there after doing it.
I also flashed a new kernel and cleared cache & dalvik cache.

I had a screenshot app wipe mine a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I had it all backed up on my computer.
Happened to me once as well, no clue why, I have been using that app for a good year and never had anything like that

Also happened to me, but it happened because the folder 'storage' was removed of the SD card when it was hooked on to the computer.
Just one folder removed, and your entire sd card is empty... So watch out!

Unlocking your bootloader wipes the "sdcard", prevents someone from getting easy access to your data in event of phone theft.

Ahh alright, so I don't have to worry about Airdroid deleting random files.
One more question: I feel like since I unlocked/installed airdroid, Windows 7 asks me if I rly wan't to transfer a file because the device might not be able to open it ? I didn't get that message before ?

Airdriod has always been good to me. I had a similar experience once but my whole sd got wiped it was because of a broken recovery

Im sure you did, this happens when I want to transfer MS doc files or MKV. Its because it natively doesnt understand those extensions.

This sounds like a dumb question but I've never had this happen to me before. The other day I switched to Eugene's MIUI Patchrom. I was on it for about ten minutes when I realized I couldn't access my pictures. My gallery was showing a couple hundred when I have over 2000. I assumed it was the rom since it's not super stable. I restored my backup or Juggernaut and I just realized I can still not see my pictures. Surely they didn't get deleted, right? Please help because those pictures mean a lot to me. Thanks.

I don't know of any ROMS that will wipe the sdcard. Did you check the DCIM directory with root explorer or via USB from your PC?
Yeah I did. Like I said, the folders are still there with the names I gave them, they're just empty.

O well, have fun finding the pictures/ taking them again.
Besides the attributes getting changed by accident to hidden, I'd cough it up as a loss unless you can manage to do a file recovery program to scrape them off somehow

O&O Software makes a really good file/folder/partition recovery program. I'd imagine it would work on sd, but im not 100% sure.. It never hurts to check
That's always my biggest worry when switching to a new ROM, because all my videos and pics are of my kids for the most part.
I personally don't know the best way to get them back, and the position you are in really sucks. What I tend to do is backup all my photos and pictures to my external SD card (32gb, so I have the space). Also make a backup on my computer and make another backup through a cloud storage program of your choice, I am currently using Drive.
I know that is a bit of overkill, but again, they are pics and vids of my kids growing up so I want to be 100% certain they don't get lost.
Hopefully you are able to find those pics, if not, perhaps my suggestion will help you in the future. Peace.
Thanks for the help, those who actually suggested something. I used some app from the gay store and it was able to recover some of my pictures, but not all. I suppose I'll just have to be more careful and make backups in the future.

Almost a year now, haha
I haven't rooted and/or put a custom rom such as cyanogen mod or anything, although I have been curious.
If I do go ahead and do it, how would I keep all my data and stuff, like pictures, contacts, messages, game data, etc.?
And how easy would it be to revert back to the stock T-Mobile ICS rom and stuff including the unroot, e.g. factory (how I got it)
This is the general statement and I might have more questions about this later

Stuff like pictures are stored on your SD card and wont get wiped by flashing a ROM. Stuff like programs and settings can be saved with Titanium Backup.
Don't I have to root to use titanium backup? In turn, doesn't that wipe everything?

No, rooting only gives you root access. All it does is give you permissions that you or apps will usually don't have. Like stated earlier deleting data or system will not delete your files and pics. To do that, you will have to format your SD or internal card. Quite different from rooting.

Back your pics up to a computer. Game data, messages, etc., can be restored via titanium backup or other similar apps. Your contacts should be backed up on your Google account. You can log into the account on a PC to confirm this.
I'm not sure on the unroot process or the level of difficulty since I've never done it.
Rooting does not wipe your data as previously mentioned.

I used it religiously for over a year but have since stopped. Its nice and might do you some good, but rooting and flashing a custom ROM will alleviate most battery problems.
I read that Tasker is a good app for managing your phone, battery, and a lot of neat things.
Is it worth the $6.49?
Also, do I need to unlock the bootloader?
You would lose all of your app data and that kind of stuff but don't worry about your pictures. Also, just backup your contacts to your SIM than restore it after you flash what you want. Also, it is super easy to unroot. Check in the dev section. You will find stuff about returning to stock.

I seem to be having an issue which started just recently anytime I flash a new rom or nightly release of AOKP or CM10 all the content in my DCIM/Camera seems to be gone the content in the thumbnails folder is still there but the photos at completely all gone any ideas what could be causing this issue? Thank you in advance.

well I just checked all images are gone... internal and external photos.. images..wallpapers... just gone very strange plugged into pc and I see some of the files there for the images and the file size but can't copy any of them and on the phone the folders are just empty
Maybe you could get lucky using a data recovery tool on your sdcard. There should be some free/trial ones on the net. You just gotta search em out.
As for why....no idea. Obviously it shouldn't be doing that! Maybe the updater-script does something like format data or something...though tgat diesnt make sense either....has anyone else in the rom thread reported this too?

Indeed I mean my new pictures I'm taking seem to be staying but everything all of my 700 images and pictures are gone nothing left which is very strange how only all the image media got wiped on external and internal sd
I don't see why or how but is it possible they were somehow actually stored in the apps data/cache folder and just linked to the sdcard??
It seems far fetched but its the only real explanation I could come up with other than something being corrupt and not working as intended.....
That's an odd one man.
Have you looked into any data recovery tools? I've heard of some success with them dealing with flash media like sdcards.

Hello. For the past 2 day's my phone has been REALLY slow not to mention laggy as hell. It all started when I lend my sd card to a friend overnight so he can watch man of steel along with other movies I had on it. Here is the thing. He's phone is a MESS. He has the s2 and that thing turns off on him ALL the time. Freezes. So now my galaxy note 2 is actin stupid when I download a large game (around 230mb) it begins to lag. The screen will not respond for like 5 seconds then it touches everywhere I did. Ive tried reseting my phone nothing. Tried a back up/dfferent rom. No dice.
What can be possibly wrong all these market "anti virus" scanners are all just imitation

Does the phone to back to normal with the SD card out?
You could try copying your all of your SD card to your computer, deleting all of the files on it, formatting the SD card, and copying back what you need.
Also, I've found my phone used to lag when I racked up too many text messages. I currently use Handcent and have it set to keep only a certain amount per thread...I routinely go through all my threads and delete conversations with people I hardly text as well.
Hope this helps!

In addition to wiping cache and dalvik cache, do a "fix permissions" under advanced in recovery.
If that doesn't work - I would recommend in recovery that you mount /system and then format system. Then immediately flash a rom or a backup made before the trouble started...

From what I've gathered it's not actually there twice, it's just a reflection, so to speak, of your user data. It's a feature implemented for muti-user setups.

The HTC One is formatted different than a typical external sd card (FAT). Because it is formatted differently, USB mass storage does not show up on our computers. Use adb to push files. Check your storage space on the phone.

This is def a bug, and I might have a fix... Here's how I came to this...
On soff day one I soffed, immediately I installed cwm recovery, and first thing I did was do a backup... Restarted my phone, and immediately got the less than 10 GB left...right after that I wiped and i installed mokee, and still had storage issues... Then I deleted the factory backup and did a nother fresh backup from recovery... Poof all my space is back... Check the size of your factory backup, bet its huge... Take it off your phone and stash it on your PC if you wanna save it...
This is where backups are stored
