So, I heard some while a go that it is possible to have flash in GIO. Me being a totally helpless with tech I asked my friend of a friend of a friends cousin to ROOT my phone. Well that went smoothly, I did not get flash on my mobile´s websites but instead I can´t connect my Gio to PC via USB... NUTS!
And "the Friend" can´t help me no longer...
So here are the problems, I can´t connect to PC, no matter what. Tried de-buggin, un-installed drivers <-> installed drivers. Nothing...
Also I have that app I don´t really want ( or do I?), called SuperSU which is´nt working, says something about "binary needs to update -> Fail". How the h*ll i´m gonna get rid of that? Is that app that lost my USB-connection? Did I do it?
So could some one please tell me, 1) How to remove SuperSU-app or how to fix it (I you think that I should have it). 2) Any ideas how to solve USB-issue. 3) If I need to install any app´s, softwares and so on, links would be great. Working ones...
Here´s some specs from my phone, GT-S5660, Android ver. 2.3.6, "somethingsomething" S5660XXKT6, Core(?) 2.6.35.7-perf-CL1006648, "mumbojumbo" GIGERBREAD.XXKTI. SuperSU v0.98
Ask for more information if you need it, i´ll try to explain the best I can, english is´nt my language. Me no enklish, me finnish.
... Is it possible to have flash on GIO?
superSU is the app that gives away root acces to apps and to the system.
you need to use wifi or 3G and update the binairy
for usb, make sure you fully disabled Kies and killed it with the task manager

Thanks for reply. SuperSU won´t update, not on wifi or 3G. Just says "update failed".
I have deleted Kies from laptop, cleaned registry, even removed all usb-drivers then restarted laptop(did that with WIN7 an XP-PRO), yell´ed at my neighbours and blamed the cat.
Still no connection, I can connect NOKIA with usb-cable, the cable recharges my Gio but no luck with connecting... I quess that damn thing is broken.
I´ll focus now on removing that superSU, which will be a weeks job at my skills...
Thanks anyway.

Yes, it´s the cable that came with Gio. Can´t find Nokia´s cable so I could try that one. How do I check that if my phone has a custom rom that is´nt suitable or something like that. I really don´t know what that friend of my did to my phone, BUT the problem occured after his I´ll have your phone going like Räikkönen in Abu Dhabi-tuneup.
Really i think u should unroot it if u think root cause this problem.

Just tried that one, correct me if I´m wrong but unrooting is done by using unroot.zip (the one for superSU)? because that did´nt do the trick. For now I have done unroot.zip, wipe all data from phone (to factory re-set or whatcamacallit), boot-> voilá, theres that superSu still, version 0,98 if I recall.
I know that the bigges problem is in front my laptop´s screen, AKA my face, but as I earlier stated, me no computers.
I wish someone would make an app that removes all of these root-thingies and gives you a free nokia 3310
Thanks for reply, I won´t give up. There must be a simple answer for this. I just have to find it, or someone gives it me... Latter the better.
Ooh ooh, FYI, now I have these two app´s in my phone. SuperSU and Superuser, should I just quit fidling with my phone
...and now when I connect my phone to laptop, win7 gives every 3 sec. a message that one of the USB-hardwares is in errormode or something (I´m bad at traslating), it sounds like a intro of a Skrillex-song...

Yep, if you mean flash´ing is done by the the method of power+"that large button at bottom of my phone" and install update->unroot.zip then yes, app won´t go. Do I have a wrong file? Are those files spesific to a certain app? The trick is to get two superuser-apps is klick+klick+yes+fustration+install+hope+i don´t know. If I could I would give you better info... You mean that SuperSU (the one with cyan droid with red cape) and Superuser (the one with green droid and a eyepatch) shouldnt exist in a same phone? This is going straight to the twilightzone.
If you are confused, quess how I feel:laugh:

Oh, and yes, no ( ) I can´t uninstall either of those app, well from phone´s uninstall-section, butt that do´snt uninstall these apps for good... They are still there when I go to settings+apps+manage apps+all-> there they are.

Here´s where I´m at now, SUPERuser says: su binary vlegacy (0) -rwsr sr-x root root System/bin/su. When I do update I get this: Checking installed version:Legacy(written in red), Gaining root acces: fail! (allso written in red).
SuperSU says " The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?" -> "Installation failed!".
Busybox installer says my device is rooted
Root checker basic says Sorry! This device does not have proper root acces.
Got root says "Successfully located ´su´(superuser) on the device. Failed to obtain root privileges through ´su´.

i don't think it related with hardware, root is related with software (OS).
Right, here´s where I´m at. Now my phone IS rooted, it also have android 4.0.4 and CyanogenMod9
Done some fidling you see...
But still no connection via usb, I´m starting to think that it is a hardware-related problem. It does charge my phone, but no connection for file transfer.
So for now I will be happy for these settings.
Just need to get the a2sdgui working propely, can´t move apps from phone to sd.

I think there's no problem with a rooted phone. You just need to do some homework before you started at it. Let me help you by explaining you some words and some help.
Root: when you root your phone you are able to flash roms on your phone.
Recovery mode: the menu that you get when you touch the on button + the OK button.
Flashing: installing a rom.
Rom: a kind of system on your phone. After rooting you can put these on your phone like iOS or
ICS.
When you are rooting your phone, you need a new recovery mode: Clockwork mode recovery. You can install this as the same way like flashing a rom. After that you can apply the update.zip package. Now your phone us rooted and when you reboot your phone you have a new app: SuperSU (or superuser) This app gives apps permission to other apps. Now you are able to flash any rom you want. Just google on: roms for /thenameofyourphone/ and you get enough results. Some roms are really great and are smooth and have a nice theme like android 4.1 or ios. Just download the rom. Put it on yor sd card. Go into recovery mode (clockwork mode recovery). Backup current rom, do a factory reset, wipe cache and install the rom. After flashing you must reboot your phone and ENJOY!
You can also download link2sd which allows you to move ALL you apps to your sd card. By the way. When you have rooted your phone it isn't bad but you have to read very much and after a while you will understand everything and you will enjoy your favourite rom.
-sorry for bad english-

hotkeys?
Hi all, i got this old phone (Samsung GT-S5560) with a phonelock on it. The question is how do i do a hard reset with the buttons or how do i get the recovery mode with the buttons? I cant find it on the net.....
I have rooted my phone using the Vietnamese method, not Bin4ry's, and I have successfully unlocked the phone using Freegee. I downloaded Root Browser Lite and began trying to uninstall some of the bloatware I'll never use, but have found I cannot uninstall anything other than apps I installed myself. I have things running properly that require root, i.e. AdFree, but I noticed that RB Lite did not request root permission when I opened it up and tried uninstalling apps. I've uninstalled and reinstalled RB Lite a couple times, hasn't fixed anything. Am I doing something wrong? I am new to this game, having only one phone prior that I rooted/unlocked and messed with ROMs on, but I never had a single issue removing apps off my Evo 4G. Any help is welcome and appreciated! If you need more details, let me know. Thanks guys!
Does the RB Lite supports the required features?
Cause the Root Explorer, for example, doesnt provide them in light version.
It claims to. In the description: Batch copy/paste, zip, tar, delete, move any file or folder. When I ran FreeGee, I didn't get any errors, and CWM seems to be working fine. And again, apps that require root, i.e. AdFree are working correctly. I don't know, maybe I'll throw down the $3.99 for Root Explorer and see if that works...

Care to elaborate? May be helpful to others.
RB Lite was the issue. Downloaded File Explorer, which if you intend to use on a rooted phone, makes you download some extra files from the app store. This program is free and seems to work well enough, though my goal is simply debloating the phone. Anyways, silly error on many part.

I rooted my AT&T i747 with Android 4.0.4 a couple months ago and installed SuperSU as well and was working great. When I upgraded my phone to android 4.1.1 a few days ago I lost all rooting capabilities. My Titanium Backup Pro no longer has root access as well as my SuperSU and a couple of other apps that require it. I also have tried uninstalling SuperSU with no success.
Could I just reflash my i747 just like I did back on 4.0.4 to root it again or is there a way to correct the current root access? What would you recommend?
Thanks in advance!
If you took the official update then you have lost root. You just need to re root and you will be back in business.

I want to do it but this is what the app says on Google play...
"NOTICE: A SPECIAL PROCEDURE IS NEEDED FOR UNINSTALLATION. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE APP, DO *NOT* JUST UNINSTALL IT, YOU *WILL* LOSE ROOT.
Superuser access management runs through a so called "su binary". There can be only one of these at a time. So if you install SuperSU, your previous superuser access management solution will no longer operate. So if you want to switch back: (1) Open that application, and search for an option for it to install/update/replace the "su binary". (2) Confirm root-using apps are using the superuser solution you want. (3) Uninstall SuperSU."
Does that mean I will lose root for good if I just try to reroot it a second time without first uninstalling it? That is where I am having trouble as well. The app will not let me properly uninstall it from within the app.
Thanks.

That warning by Chainfire relates to the various other superuser shells out there (like superuser.apk, ROM-specific superuser shells). Wait, what's the shell? Let me explain:
OK, so having root means you have three folders/files available:
superSU.apk (the shell; it's an interface lets you allow certain apps access to the actual superuser files..think of it as the root gatekeeper..having it alone does not mean you're rooted...seems like you have this)
/system/xbin/su/ (folder with files SPECIFIC to SuperSU.apk...apps can ask superSU.apk to access these "root-enabling" files ...you lost this)
/system/bin/su (folder with files SPECIFIC to SuperSU.apk...apps can ask superSU.apk to access these "root-enabling" files...you lost this, too)
The latter two, the folders, are collectively referred as su binaries. His warning: if don't like using superSU.apk as your shell, do not simply uninstall superSU.apk. Why? I'm not totally sure, but I think it's because that will leave the su binaries, specific to his app! Then, when an app wants to ask for root, it doesn't know what the flip to do. It has to interact with the shell, but the shell is missing!
The special method to really remove root is:
creepyncrawly said:

OK, the "what is going on behind the scenes" is over. To get root back:
Basically, you need to replace the su binaries. But, the only way I know how is to replace all three of those parts. I'm pretty sure you're fine to "overwrite" the 1/3 of root you already have (SuperSU.apk). Thus, you have two main options:
1) Use CF AutoRoot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963790). It will temporarily flash a modified recovery, and then add those binaries and the SuperSU.apk, and then flash the stock recovery back, but it will trip the flash counter. Takes 30 seconds. Should be safe, because it will just overwrite the apk and add the su binaries. [I rooted this way; triangle away is cheap to reset the flash counter!]
2) Use Mr. Robinson's method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426). This contain a /system image with all three aforementioned parts. Will take about 15 minutes, but will not trip the flash counter. As long as you're on stock firmware (which I think you are), this won't delete any apps/data.
I got it rooted again. Thanks for help guys. I just reinstalled the supersu.apk and the binary files and it's rooted once again. Whoo-hoo!

i want to root my archos 80 titanium
It works on 101 titanium, but you have to live with a chinese supersu. Titanium backup did perform its automatic restore ok for me.
Now searching how to change to a English supersu?
Is it possible to use such a tool from linux (I've no real windows machine only a virtualbox emulated win XP system running on top of my arch linux distro).
Thank you,

Rooted Archos 80 Titanium HD
I used the VROOT app that Aung Thiha attached on my 80 Titanium HD model. After installing the app with the root.exe executable, I plugged in my tablet fully booted with debug mode turned on, and I pushed the green button in the software. After a few seconds, the tablet rebooted, and I had root.
Now, what to do about the Chinese app that I couldn't understand?
First, it is important to know that when the app pops up to give root access to a program, you need to push the right side button to grant access.
Now, you can search for and install "Superuser" from the Android market. The version made by Clockwordmod did not work for me, it is important to use the version from ChainsDD.
Then start Superuser, and click on the "i" for Information at the top of the app. It should say us binary v3.x.x with the option to "tap to check for updates". Check for updates and then click the update button.
This will replace the Chinese binary version with an English version. You should now be able to see the normal Superuser Icon in the app drawer and will start receiving prompts in English.
My profile is hungry for thanks, so don't forget to give this a thumbs up if you found this helpful.

So... you are root with the last update from Archos? You could contact the people on Arctablet forum to send them some files. This could lead in some custom rom in the future.

I'm on stock E980 Kitkat and I just rooted my phone using the Root Tool for Kitkat (can be found elsewhere in the OGP forums). Everything went fine and the next step is to install SuperSU or Superuser from the Play store. This has been my routine all through my Android life: Root and then install a superuser app.
Well, currently I don't have any of these Superuser apps installed (honestly, I was in a hurry and simply forgot to install one) and everything is working perfectly fine. According to Root Checker, I have full root access. All apps who require root are working perfectly fine; maybe even better. Titanium Backup restored all my apps. No issues whatsoever!
So my question here is this:
In order to have proper root and for everything to qork perfectly, is a superuser app really necessary? Or can I just keep things the way they are right now (no su app) and expect everything to work just fine?
PS:
I've been having to reflash my rom several times because of certain root-requiring apps constantly force closing on me. I've had SuperSU installed while this has been happening and without an su app, these apps are doing exactly as they are supposed to. I'm now wondering if there is a bug (or just some other issue) in SuperSU or something.
In Beanstalk thread, its OP recommended to install SuperSU App and uninstall it afterwards.
Kinda confusing and i dont know its purpose from a developers perspective.

My guess, and this is coming from the few hours today using my phone without an SU app, is that it's a security thing (?).
Without the SU app, anything on my phone has root access as it pleases and I have no clue as to what is being granted these permissions. This is fine for me personally because everything I have installed that needs root, I WANT to have root access and it's really annoying to me to have to have to manually grant everything access.
So, I'm starting to wonder if the SU apps are simply for managing root access; allowing certain apps permission, while restricting the access of others.
So far, I've been running the phone several hours without any SU app and the phone is working great! I don't have to constantly grant apps permission all the time (or well, first time I guess).
Super SU
It is better if you could have Super Su installed because then you can control apps that needs root permissions. Some times root privileges required apps can harm your device.

OK, so SU apps like SuperSU are basically used to manage root access from root-requiring apps. A security measue basically.
This is what I figured, but had to make sure.
