Hey , Sorry I am a bit new to xda (noob ) please dont be too hard on me. SO i had a few questions if someone could be kind enuf to answer ..
Model - R800a , Build - 4.0.2.A.0.42 , Andriod 2.3.4 , Baseband - 8x55A- AAABQMAZM-203028D-56
1. I was looking that there are 2-3 different ways to root the xperia play - super one click , flash tool or doomlord root kit... which one is easier or safer and which one should i use ?
2. Do I need to Unlock the Bootloader ? Also How to unlock the bootlader ? I came across this link unlockbootloader . sonymobile . com ... Is this the way to go to unlock the boot loader or is there another simpler way ?
3. Also main reason for me to Root the play is because internal memory is too less with all the bloatware.... I did came across some tutorial which explained how to partition the memory card etc. but i cant find it now any link regarding that will be helpful.
4. Also I am confused as to what is correct sequence of doing these steps is... Root ,Unlock Bootloader,Partition Memory, flash new Kernel,Flash Rom ?
5. Finally All I want to do with my rooted phone is Remove bloatware, Increase internal memory , ability to overclock and Get best gaming performance.... I would prefer Jb but i am not too fussed even if I have to use Gb.. So can u please recommend which kernal and ROm to go for ?
Tnx ,
This thread may help although I'm not sure since I have an R800i and it might not be the same for the R800a:

To free up some storage space, you could move everything to the SD card after rooting or use link2SD
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
You can't root the stock 2.3.4 version, you will need to flash version 2.3.3 or this enhanced 2.3.4 version.
Use the link from the post above and follow the "flash a ftf" guide to flash it. Then follow the root guide.
To solve your issue with low memory. There are many ways to deal with it, but I like using the program LBE Security Master, it can do things such as move apps to sdcard, remove system apps, and prevent apps from autostarting.

Hi all,
I recently got an Xperia play and so far I love it but I am running out of internal memory (it only has 380mb available for apps etc). I'm relatively new to android so please stick with me!
I read on a forum that you can partition a section of the SD card then use an app called "Link2SD" to use that partition as additional internal memory. As part of this you have to root the phone. I tried this and the software didn't work.
My main question is regarding rooting, is it worth doing? I'd heard that if you root your phone you risk bricking it and also you can't get future software updates. If that's true then I won't get ice cream sandwich in the next update.
So, can anyone advise me on if rooting is a good thing to do and if so, how do I do it? If not, do you know of any good ways to increase the internal memory that don't need rooting? I am already using the App2SD application which helps a bit but not enough as I've already moved all I can to the SD card in normal settings.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
It's REALLY worth it and you'd be super unlucky to brick or cause any damage by trying to root.
Use superoneclick. Really quick and simple.
Then Link2SD works fine (it needs root to work). You can move all of your apps across stopping the annoying messages about low memory.
Then when you get a bit more brave get titanium backup, backup everything.
Then google safe removal list xperia play xda and get rid of the sony bloatware you don't use. Will be like a new phone my friend. Enjoy your Play!
Thanks mate, I'm still torn if I want to risk it! Would it be OK with future software updates if I did root? How do I use the rooting program you mentioned, download it to my PC then just execute it with the phone plugged in? Sorry for all the questions, I know nothing of the internal workings of android! Thanks
Sent from my R800i using XDA
Superoneclick is a program you run on your PC. Literally one click with your phone connected and you're rooted. There are practically no risks involved at all.
You'll still be able to update OTA if you don't uninstall any stock apps. ICS will be available for FlashTool when it's released anyway so I wouldn't worry about that
Sounds good, I've already got instructions for a program to partition the SD card and for link2sd. I'll give it a go! I'm assuming the stock apps will be the ones not on the safe list? Can I still move games that came preinstalled? Thanks for all your help, it's much appreciated!

Basically don't uninstall any app that is installed to /system/app if you want OTA
This is irrelevant anyway since ICS won't come OTA. You'll have to use FlashTool or SEUS
hi !
When you are rooted ! uninstall those crap stock app list with Titanium backup (from market),
Warning ! It need root !

do you know if there's an app to unroot my phone? I'll probably do the partition thing, remove the apps I don't need then unroot the phone again. Any ideas? Thanks

Perhaps superoneclick does unroot as well (can't remember and not near a pc. But you don't need to unroot. Keeping root does no harm. If you're thinking about warranties then it's pointless as you'll have missing apps etc when you send it away.. Again though, root does no harm and you can quickly flash a stock xperia rom (they're linked in a thread here and all listed on xperiagamer website) should you need to send the phone for repair

Link2sd needs root access to run. If you remove root you won't be able to use Link2sd anymore
ah ok, you can tell I'm new to all this stuff can't you?!
Thanks!
How come ICS won't be coming as an OTA update? I'd read that it was being released in April for the Play?
I may need to pick your brains about how to get hold of ICS when it's released then!
Is there an equivalent to super one click for macs or will I be forced to use my 2009 eepc?

I have uninstalled the apps, using titanium backup...but I think the data is still there cause the space has not improved...
Superoneclick will work on the .62 firmware as well right? ..
I let the phone do a software update and I thought I read somewhere that the .62 cannot be rooted.. please tell me I'm wrong..
this low internal memory is so freaking annoying
Hi all,
I think I've finally got all the info I need, just need to make the decision of which way to go now!
I found a hack that you can use to send apps to the SD card without rooting:
http://www.bongizmo.com/blog/moving-all-android-apps-to-sdcard-apps2sd-froyo/
but I'm more nervous of hacking that rooting because at least there is lots of guidance on rooting for novices like myself! What do you reckon? To root or not to root, that is the question!
I was thinking, now that my SD card will be taking the brunt of the apps data etc, is it possible to exchange the 16gb card I got with the phone for a standard 32gb micro sd to expand the capacity? I'm concerned that if I do this, links between the phone and SD card might not work anymore.
Thanks
Can anyone please confirm that superoneclick works with the xperia play, android version 2.3.4? If so, which version? I've downloaded v2[1].3.3 and I'm ready to take the plunge. Thanks

I'm afraid I'll need step by step instructions for rooting my play, I can't get it to work. I downloaded superoneclick and tried to execute it and it just closed itself. Do I need to install SDK whatever that is? I have no idea what I'm doing! Please help!

Are you running as admin?
If you can't get it to work try DoomLord's Easy Rooting Toolkit - don't have a link as I'm on my phone but it should be easy enough to find

just tried it, i just get "cannot find the path specified" on each line, I'm probably doing something fundamentally wrong! Does it need to be in media transfer mode? Here's what I did:
Downloaded the Zip file and extracted all the files into a folder.
Turned on USB debugging and unknown sources
Connected the phone via USB and skipped the prompt to open the phone folders
Executed the "run me.bat" file
Pressed any button as prompted
What am I doing wrong?
So.. hello! this is my first thread as you can see and i gome some question that stop me from rooting my verizon xperia play ( wich i think its called r800x ), mine is the CDMA version.
Btw, my phone has 2.3.2 and atm i cant update, Already read the sticky on r800x , but just want to confirm..
so basically i found that SuperOneClick does the job, so here are some questions:
i dont want custom roms on my cellphone i just want to remove verizon apps and those stuff, and also install titanium. BUT!
1.- if i root my phone, and uninstall the verizon apps, what will happen if i need to do a factory reset, will it crash ir brick since it cant find those apps?
2.- am i right? SuperOneClick does the job using the zergrush xploit?
Thats all for now! thank you guys!
If you do a factory reset in the phone, all that does is clear your personal info from every nook and cranny possible in your phone. It doesn't actually try to find all the apps, iirc, it just wipes everything it can find.
Superoneclick worked for me on 2.3.3, so I'm sure it'll work on 2.3.2, as well.

If you root your phone and uninstall all the vz bloat, I would suggest doing a data wipe because of the cache/dalvik cache left behind and re gain the extra internal space, your phone will NOT brick if you delete those apps and data wipe.
And you are correct, super one click will do the job!
I would update to 2.3.3 though, it is much better then 2.3.2, How come you cant update?
how to hard reset R800x?
i couldnt find anyway to hard reset this device , its got pattern lock and cant get inside the device , any idea please . i tried this ( right button-left button-power release after sony ericson logo displays on screen , that does nothing to device , any other solution please post and thanks in advance ,

1.If you do go back to stock, flash the stock ft ( in the Dev section)
2. Indeed it does. Make sure you get 2.3.3, root it, get cwm for locked bootloader ( there's a thread in the dev section ),and get Cola ROM. It is so fast, and has no Verizon apps. Plus, its for locked boot loaders!
I'm running it right now, and it is great! Also, make sure you make a backup of stock 2.3.3 before flashing Cola.

Hey guys, frankly im a noob.. Im running on a stock ICS, stock kernel on my Sony Ericsson Arc.. running really slow and I have decided to flash a custom rom onto it for the first time. I need your help guys on where and how do I start the process.. there are a few que i have in mind such as
1) do i need to unlock the bootloader of my hp?
2) there is something called internal sd..and im so not sure what is it actually.. the arc doesnt have an internal storage like the galaxy s2 and etc as to my understanding..so what does it mean by i have to copy the zip rom files onto the internal sd?
3) i thought of flashing cyanogenmod 9 onto the arc but i would like to ask on your opinion on the rom and what would your choice of rom be?
hope to hear from u guys soon...thank you in advance..
well bootloader (e.g the BIOS settings in our computers) is just like the police officer that controls which programmes should start, what should run etc. although unlocking your bootloader will void your warranty however, it can be relocked by ways, our dev's have shown.
NEED---- it will help you install (also known as flash) custom (your own) kernels (interacter between software and hardware) and roms (interacter between humans and softwares). thus you will be able to customize anything and everything. and without the risk of bricking (make it no more useful thn a brick) your phone
well u must have read xmooded 90.5 rom requirements hence you must have been asking this, i dont know what that means but the externel sd card even works superb with that rom.
lastly i would suggest you use jj'shybrid rom with stock kernel and cwm installed. it is as good as cm9 in ui and almost the best in battery life (battery drain is about 0.2% per hour when idle)
hit thanks if i helped you

Hello guys. As you can see I'm new here. I registered here because my friends and everyone I saw when I got my new phone is to root it man it's good and everything. I sad ok I will check how to root and everything. Everything sent me to this forum. I didn't saw anyone root a phone before so IDK anything about this so I need much help in a simple way / reply .
I have some questions first about rooting:
- Why is this good ? what + I will get from rooting my phone
- Rooting my phone will delete all my data from my phone / SD card ?
- On Xpreria Play will the controls and the " touch joystick " be harmed in some way ?
Ok now I searched on Google I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859 For me this is kinda complicated to much text XD. I would need something more simple for ex.
1) download this and this
2) check this and this.
something simple maybe with images or a video ( up to date )
Now for the phone data. If I can't root it simple and I have to downgrade don't bother explaining how to,
Phone: Sony Ericsson Xperia Play R800i
Android: 2.3.4
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-pref [email protected] #1
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.58
Thank you in advance
Most people root their phone to remove bloatware(unused useless apps) to free up memory and speed up their phone... And to install recovery...recovery will give u the ability to flash custom roms... Im not gonna get into how or whatever you can search yourself and fund out how...and it doesn't affect your sd card data or any data on the phone and it won't harm your phone
I downloaded DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip and checked everything on the phone the debug and the unknown installed adb drivers and connected the phone. I clicked the runme pressed a key and when it finished the phone rebooted. But I think the phone isn't rooted. It doesn't have Superuser.
Here it is the log that I got in the runme. Help me how to solve this
Don't know mate... Can't see the pic is to small im on my phone but if it rooted it just download the superuser app from the market... If not try the other method superoneclick
A lot of the things failed it seems. I'm DEFINITELY no expert at all. I don't want to seem like i'm just showing off this thread or forcing it down someone's throat but maybe you could look at this thread from page 2 onwards:

I don't know of any simpler method. Are you sure you've done all the steps? Extracted the zip to desktop? Allow unkown sources? Are you sure your phone is connected?
Try running the runme file as administrator?
Or as cippi said, try installing superuser and see if it works?
I only rooted very recently thanks to "LordBattleBeard" so don't really have vast knowledge

Lol as it turned out I had to use v3 dunno why but it worked well with the v3 v4 maybe for new something XD. Now the question is what rom should I use I heard that Cyanogen mod 9 is like ICS. But heard that it isn't working very well. Some suggestion ?
I can't really help on that front. I think gingerbread ROMs are better for gaming though

xperia nxt rom OR dixperia 2 OR true ancestor OR ice cream pureness OR gin2jellybean AND much more great roms.
look in development forum and try to find them.
For gaming, i prefer dixperia 2 or xperia nxt.
But don't forget that for some of the roms like cm9 you have to unlock your bootloader
Hey, I have htc wildfire s with s-on running on 2.3.5....
I want to root it to use applications that require a root..
I want to know is it possible to increase internal memory or use sd card partition to utilise as an internal mamory? If yes, then how to do it?
and I want a simple root... means no upgrading for 4.0 ICS is required for me.
I am a new to rooting.. so please explain me in simple way..
I dont understand the bootloader and clockmode recovery like words..
Please help me..
To be honest, if you don't understand the bootloader etc you may be better off leaving the phone alone, as you need to modify it to achieve rooting of the device.
This section is full of well written tutorials that are easy to follow.
Just use search function for how to root your wildfire s.
Look at the link below, it has a bit of advise and some links to look at.

Thanks for reply... but can i do the partition? and can i install all applications if I partitioned sd card of 1 gb for Internal Memory..??
Simple answer is no, there are a few apps that will move apps to the SD card (some apps cannot be moved though)
This is one reason why people root the device....to free up memory and remove unwanted service provider apps etc.
It is a fairly simple process, take the plunge and root the device.
