Inky effect on unlocking with s-pen - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Kill me if this is common knowledge but, swiping the screen with the s-pen to unlock the phone produces an inky effect in the water effect that you usually see when unlocking using your finger.
Just thought I'd share.

Seriously, on XDA?
Sent from Samsung Galaxy Note II

You are dead OP..... this is xda... spare some thought
It is a 4.1.2 feature. ..looks like you have been living under a rock. ..and just got updated.
I will do you a favor. ..search for ink finger mod. ..you can have that ink effect even while using your finger and not just the s pen

[REQ] Faceunlock without being displayed

Hi to all,
Yesterday I was thinking if it could be possible to get face unlock without being displayed the camera image.
I mean I would like to have the pattern unlock screen displayed but if you have your face in front the phone it will be unlocked immediately.
It's just an idea.
Happy new year from Colombia!!

This should probably be in the q&a forum. I would assume the camera view is vital to position your face properly so I doubt this request will come to fruition.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I support this REQ. I don't want to have to see my gangsta face each time I turn the screen on
I agree, dont like other people looking at me looking at myself.... Makes me look like a douche.
I dont think the face alignment would be an issue. Practice makes perfect.
might also be a suggestion that on the fake pattern lock screen, there was a faint face outline..like really dark grey or something.

In fact, I have posted here because to do this req, it must be through a code develop, it's no reachable just from an option.
Thread moved. Please don't post in the wrong topic. It pisses me off.

Twins can face unlock ... Wait for it...

I have a twin. It is possible for her face to unlock my Galaxy. Any female/male twin combos with Galaxy or twins in general. If you haven't figured it out I'm a male. Not sure how I feel about this.
Haha I'm assuming you guys are adults that would suck if you guys were teens bickering someone would be in trouble.
I might have my brother and sister try this out to see if it really works

Well cant test that you should try it out in the same room and position facial expressions etc try it im curious as well lol
My brother has unlocked mine and we are not even twins we just look at lot alike. It worked like 6 out of 10 times witch is pretty good or bad how ever you look at it. Lol. With the voice and face unlock it didn't unlock but with his face and my voice it did. Hope this helps

Yeah I have a twin brother and he can face unlock my phone too.. sooo back to the good old pattern unlock. Until they make thumbprint unlock

fraternal twins are as related(genetically on 50%) as any other regular siblings so this doesn't have to be restricted to fraternal twins but could be asked of any siblings
A picture of your face could probably unlock your phone, no twin required
Now notice I said probably, I don't know for sure

Yea were adults. Were not alike in a lot of ways though. She found it nice but not cool... Girls... Wish I was enthused enough to Google a face palm to her reaction.

I'm not sure how it works but when I set it up and when she used it, it was in the same room. I've unlocked my pone with different expressions so I guess she would be able to. Two important things though. First I think you have to look at the camera and not the phone if that makes sense, my sister agrees. Secondly her hair couldn't really be in the frame.

My cousin (we share the same grandmother) said her twin daughters can unlock her phone... Gets me worried about twisted kids and Google wallet
My brother (14) and dad (46) can face unlock each other's phones.
This isn't surprising to me since my uncle who looks almost nothing like me (with the exception of skin color) is able to unlock my phone with face lock 9 times out of ten. I just figured my phone is racist and thinks all black people look the same :/
Sent from over there....
Yes, I would think so.
i showed me cousin that feature and he also was able to unlock it with his face. that is not secure at all.
In just the right light, I can open my brothers phone with face unlock.

same here- my son which is 5 can face unlocked my gs3.. of course he can also pull up my xbox live profile with the kinect..
I have tested the picture of me quite a few times so far I am 17/17 with it. NOT the most secure lock mechanisms.

I have had absolutely no problems with the S Pen. In fact my wife is an Industrial Designer, and said that the Pen isnt too far behind her WACOM and programs she uses for work. slight lag, but nothing to lose sleep over. for me the S Pen is almost a novelty.

The reason I was soo critical about it is because I need it to take note in class and always have it with me when I need to study.
i dont think a phone/tablet/any electronic device could ever replace pen/paper when it comes down to class and taking notes...not even a laptop. our brains learn best when we write things out, not just type them up and to take tons of class notes on a 5.55" screen is just silly...anyway, my s-pen was initially too sensitive and would register screen taps at times when I would only be hovering. following a fix in some thread, I probably love my phone more than all my other devices combined :good:
Theres a known issue with the s-pen and magnets. Mine works great.

Guys - at the Sprint store the pen did not work for me AT ALL - the guys at the desk said "yeah, its not good - buy an iPhone 5 this thing sucks" - i bought it anyway, it works fine... CONFIRMING that at 3 stores I went to in order to find stock in Las Vegas, this was a problem and that with my device - no such problem.

While I do agree that paper and pen are the best, I actually saw a girl in my organic chemistry class who took all her notes on her iPad. She drew structures and wrote formulas with a cheap, standard capacitive stylus, typed out whatever she could type out, and took pictures of slides and a pasted them into her notes. I'm not sure what program she used, but it was quite impressive to say the least. Of course, I think it requires learning the programs inside and out and making sure you can use them efficiently.
I have a Nexus 7 and a Galaxy Note II and wouldn't use either one to replace a notebook and a good mechanical pencil. I'm also not motivated enough to try though either lol.
If you're gonna take notes, just do a Bluetooth keyboard... makes more sense.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
Yea but there are some classes where you can't type everything? How do you draw a structure or diagram with a keyboard?

There is a great app called handrite in the market and it lets you type and draw in the same file as well as import pictures. I use it in meetings on my Xoom.

Cool features. ./ general talk

I want to say hello note family! This phone is already my favorite phone. Also I like to have a thread where ppl can ask questions about anything and talk about everything. I personally like to talk about lil this I find and share them with others. So we dont blow up threads on dev section and have a million threads on things that have been answered.
So to start it off, I found that the note 2 has low light feature witch makes photos look great!!!
Same phone flash.. had galaxy s3 didn't have that feature. Thought it was cool

That will def come in handy, esp these uppoming winter months when we're all pretty much stuck inside! Inside/dark photo-taking=always a challenge.
One of the hand gestures I saw on a video that I didn't know was there is pretty cool. Basically if you have it active, while your phones on your desk or at a table, you can wave your hand over the headset and it will turn on part of the screen(most the top half) and slowly dim over a few seconds. Basically used for taking a quick peak at missed calls/text/notifications.

If it doesn't really require lots of hassle, i would ask for a swap.
If I bought it at a store, I would return it.
It will definitely go back first thing in the morning as I just found that the theft side of the screen is waaaay to unresponsive to the spen.

Holy crapola that sucks! I was gonna say (before I read all the way down) that I'm so anal with my stuff that I'd return it in a heartbeat. Now that I see the sensitivity issue I'd obviously return it like you did. Hopefully that doesn't ruin your opinion of the Note 2 though, because it's a truly awesome phone! I've had mine for a few weeks now and I don't know what I'd do without it anymore!

Well, I'm a huge fan of the note concept & I know that Samsung's quality control is very very good but sometimes you get a lemon & you have to deal with it.
I guess I'm just fortunate I never have these issues....how did you purchase in store. ...yet its later outside the store you notice something you SHOULD have noticed at time of purchase.............doesn't everyone inspect their device prior to paying and leaving. As far as the s-pen issues people should adjust their settings mines works just fine you have to tweak the sensitivity to your own UNIQUE handwriting style

bipoler: Sometimes new gadget owners fall victim to the so-called Gollum syndrome: their eyes enlarge, their skintone dulls and greys out, and their cognitive functions are diminished. It can last from a few minutes to a few days, and only the worse failures can stop the symptoms quickly, more subtle defects take longer.

Well I got my unit online from timo's website. Once I got the device 18 hours later it was on its way back. The spen issue is not just a less sensitive area... its a deadzone which the device just does not register anything.
