[Q] Overclocking Problem .... [>.<] - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey There. ..
I am not able to Overclock my note 2 N7100 ...
I am using Omega Rom v10 with Note2Core kernel (latest version) ..
whenever I set 1800/1700 Mhz (performance) using Setcpu and then I test Benchmark .. and I got 5600+ in Qwrdnt professional
after that I check setucp and I noticed that it automatically sets to 800 Mhz.....
I tryd many time buh no luck . .......
and I tryd other kernels but same problem in all
some 1 pls help me .....
Thanks. .

Thermal throttling perhaps
Nothing to do with the "not all chips are created equal" thing

Have you tried with Perseus kernel using stweak?

If he tried other kernels and gets same results, then it is not thermal throttling. Not all chips are created equal. I find it highly unlikely there are any gnote2's that can't over clock a couple hundred MHz but there is little point trying to get performance that is not worth it or denying the very very few reasons you can't.

I have the same configuration but no problem
Try a full wipe then install kenel and maybe use undervoltage.

Make sure the governor is not on performance.....I did that at first running benchmarks on performance and had the issue you have...

What app do you run to overclock as I'm not sure what's included with note2core?
Sent from the Rabbit Hole

try use Perseus kernels. it is good and stable.
me running on 1.8ghz (daily use) , 1250mV ... GPU: 533, 1050mV
governor : pegasusq
benchmark score: 19881
*install system tuner pro & antutu benchmark.
run antutu benchmark and system tuner pro at the same time using multi window..
you will be able to see the performance.. make sure the CPU temp not more than 80 degree (if it go >80, your CPU clock will go down to 800mhz)
:good:

CPU Overclocking

Anyone has managed to overclock the cpu of Samsung Galaxy W?
I've tried with both SetCPU and CPU Master with no results, as the max frequency cannot be increased more than the default speed of 1400MHz..
For overclocking need custom kernel

Correct!!
Arco is working on a custom kernel, and maybe i will give it a shot if there is a good tutorial!
gr8! thx guyz
I've talked about this before.
Arco refuses to add higher speed frequencies to his kernel before making sure it's stable and smooth.

Im not familiar with antutu. Does M.V have to do with the voltage? If so be careful about lowering it much more. Because the kernel that comes with it is already under volted, and your phone could go bonkers. You need to lower the CPU speed to about 1.118. You wont notice any difference in speed. Im running BeastMod and I dont use any off screen profiles, synergy kernel goes into deep sleep with out any.
I have git my goal but now my phone is slow I am running at 450!-850 but I would like to run 700-1200

GPU overclocking kernel request

Found this in another forum. Wanted to get exposure to the possibility.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087853&postcount=2
From another poster: He references using "siyah" kernel in his S3, which appears to be an international version with the same processor as we have. He indicates the need for "stweaks". He talks about GPU "steppings" so I'm not sure if Andrielux has changed these in his kernel. I installed the app "stweaks" but it wouldn't load as it said "no kernel support".
Wow!!! What in the world. Is this for real? I wonder how stable it is. From 440 up to 800?! They are using some app called Stweaks (and the kernel of course) to do it. Love to see that on our Note 2.
And since it seems that the GPU wasn't changed much....from the Galaxy s2 series... "700 Mhz - 1100 mv" is only 75mv higher than the stock 440...and accoring to the forums stable. A 70% increase in speed and stable. This is a must have for any newer kernels.
His kernel does have it. Read the n7100 thread for directions

"his kernel". Can you be more specific? Do you have a link to this kernel that we can use on the Sprint GSNII that supports GPU OC?

It's about 1/3 the way down the OP with a beige arrow and a GPU frequency table. The few paragraphs below explain how to overclock the GPU via adb/terminal.
** Edit: AndreiLux just posted a new update which includes STweaks support.
Perseus kernel supports GPU overclocking now using STweaks. And it FLIES. Wow.

Stweaks slow overclocking but if you OC it by 100mhz laugh amd giggles numbers. What kind of actual gpu performance are you getting. I see with.stock better real life performance.during.gaming versus his kernel. So if I were to oc just to match stock is pointless to me.
why overheat the gpu when I can get the same performance on stock kernel.
It has to be the way he has it coded. Till it matches stock and further progress dev for it ill step in. I do appreciate his work and time. But for me I need something better than stock. I got this phone for a reason haha.

What kind of performance? I beat the Nexus 4 as the highest rating 3D for a GPU in the market on Antutu. And it's noticeably different. Fun for extrme gaming I guess. But it affect the entire speed of the phone too.
Did you try it yet? The kernel is EXCELLENT. Going to donate from my next paycheck to dev. Thanks again.

NFSMW, GTA 3, Heavy Gaming. I noticed it was bleh on the kernel. And stock was virtually amazing no fps in fps either even during benchmark. On his kernel the 3d test for quadrant ghe fps dipped below than 58 which was consistent on stock

Why would I need a kernel to overclock the gpu to match stock gpu clock from stock kernel to get same performance performance. Neak is on the s3 not Note 2 unless he or it in that Rom but still.
I want a custom kernel that can match the GPU performance on the stock kernel without the need of overclocking

Note 2 N.E.A.K.-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2000328
Should we test it? I asked him if it will work on the Sprint version of the Note 2. I can't imagine why it would not.
FYI, STweaks is working for the Perseus kernel as of build 27. My GPU is currently at 733Mhz and I've undervolted all settings by 25 - no issues.

Yep. Seems like a very stable kernel to me. But the guy above is saying that the kernel has low framerates compared to stock. I am hoping he will test the Neak kernel out.

Sorry but I will not ill be sticking to stock maybe in the future. That kernel seems weird not sure which to choose. And like I said, I don't see the point of downloading a kernel know that will I will basically need to overclock the gpu just to get the same performance as I would on the stock kernel.

You guys.... stop scarying the people already. Overclocking your device will not break it in any case, most likely will shorten YOUR BATTERY LIFE! But that's it! You will not fry your phone, motherboard, display or whatever. I can ramp my phone upto 2ghz and it has nothing... But 1024 mhz or 1200 is enough!
I had OCed hellboy to 2 GHz...it felt stable but the phone crashed every time i opened an app...anyways 1.2 is best works so smoothly...best for everyday use...

Difference is there. Just to be sure that your phone works at that range (and its not a rom/kernel problem) - install Perfmon from the market and open the CPU section - It will then show you in real time at what range your CPU works. And if 2.0 gh becomes laggy it is because your cpu can go that high. Some cpu's can and others can't. That's just how they work. My old HTC Hero could go upto 691 from 526 default but other HTC Heroes could go upto 740....
Yo Son, Just OC'ed my V to 1.8GHz, it flys. Kill those animation.
When I oc'ed to 2.0GHz stability test Crashed dawg. Stability test it son!
BTW: When I drop to 1.9Ghz throttling issues Nig. So bench your one V too.
now I'm at 1.8GHz it's stable and no heat issues at all.

May I ask why? Not about AnTuTu.. but Quadrant Standard is great!! Even helps in choosing a better ROM.. a little..:cyclops:
The only use I have for benchmarking apps is to compare changes in roms and kernels on your own phone. If you use the same app to benchmark, you can see the different performance gains and losses in various rom and kernel combinations. i really don't think they do any good comparing performance between different phones, but for checking on your own mods they do come in handy.

Use benchmark to determine throttling
Here are some tips I know which increases the benchmark rating..
Use PERFORMANCE as the Governer after overclocking.. And disable 'Force use of GPU for 2D Drawing' in developer options.

[Q] CPU runs mostly at 1600mhz when using 4.1.2 custom roms

I've tried Omega 10 with perseus 30.1, 31.2 kernel and my CPU runs mostly at 1600mhz. I used to think that problem was related to the kernel, but now I'm using ARHD 8.0 with its stock kernel and the problem is still existing. I have also full wiped even /sdcard, but it didn't help. I've used 4.1.2 stock kernel and perseus kernel 29.1 before, and the problem was not there.
Can anyone tell me what is the cause of the problem?
Thanks.
try using uneak v 1.4 kernel....and set the cpu slider to the amount of Mhz you wish...try using another cpu govenor.
i think you are using the performance gov.
i hope it could solve your problem dude
Thank you guy, but I've not change any settings such as governor (it was pegasusq all time)
Mine does as well, but yet battery life is still pretty good. I wouldn't worry about it, as when it's not actively doing anything it will quickly throttle down, not to mention the other cores.
