[Q] build.prop tweaks? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was wondering if there were some good build.prop tweaks that make the device better.
I also wonder if a property works if I add it manually.
Can someone help me with optimize my build.prop?

If you add a tweak manually correctly it will work, but I think it could be better if you use some app. I think there are a couple made by a forum member, jrummy, one specific for the editing of the build prop and one which is a suite, ROM toolbox! In these app there's a long list of tweak applicable...

Thank you. But I have that app installed and within the build.prop editor I can't adjust everything because there are properties missing...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

Ok, i was thinking you were at your first attempt to edit the build.prop! However within rom toolbox you can directly edit the build.prop file and there's a really usefull function to make backup and restore the original build.prop, that's why my suggestion... I know that's easy manually too, but graphically is even better... and more you can add properties with the editor so there are less chance to make typo error than adding them manually...m2c

So let me get this straight, you think changing some lines in Build.prop is gonna optimize it?

Well, I think that the change can better fit some behavior of the phone to your need but I don't think it could drastically increase your performance... As I read in the pa thread performance are overall Google code related...

Thanks I found it... In the build.prop editor you can choose from a list when you want to add one. I am sorry I am blind I know. :$

Mostly placebo, I used to use build.prop tweaks on my old Galaxy S 4G along with drastic undervolting and overclocking. Finally one day I actually compared results of before and after from an objective standpoint and came to the realization most of that stuff didn't make a tangible difference.

App to change build prop

So I need to download some jap games
I need to change my build prop to a jap phone such as an xperia. I plan to use market enabler to change the market to docomo
Anyone know an app that can change the device type in my build prop back and forth so I don't have to mess with ADB ?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I haven't tried it on the E4GT, but Blade Buddy has a prop modifier. It's free on the market.
Root explorer will allow you to do it make a back up by rename it to buildprop.bak then copy it and change it but name it to buildprop again ...

its not on the market but it can be downloaded from amazon app store. its called market explorer. you can change your market to a bunch of different ones.
Don't know that "Jap" is the proper nomenclature lol

i just did it manually recently to get 50gb of storage on box.net...had to make my phone look like an lg...anyway hit up
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386159
for instructions to change it manually using root explorer just read through the first post on how to change it to an lg...and im sure u can follow the same instructions to turn it to a "jap" phone...in the very least you can follow the instructions to get free 50gbs of storage
if u need an app you can use system tuner or rom toolbox or root tools or like i said root explorer
Rom Toolbox is probably the best app for something like this.
Absolute System has a prop editor integrated on it.
Prop modder on rootzwiki
Rom Toolbox has a build.prop editor along with other goodies =D.

I have the pro version...but I hate its backup feature and everytime I install that app it starts automatically backing my apps up even when I tell it not too...
Titanium is much better they should just give it up

Always edit your build.prop manually with root explorer fist. That way a backup of the original is automatically saved. Cal me crazy but I don't trust an app to backup anything system related.
Well you are not crazy, just a little bit contradictory.

It will probably not work because the mounting path is a bit different. However you can try it. if it works, it will disable CPU rendering and add some tweaks to the GPU rendering. If not, nothing will be changed.
To check this tweak was appiled sucessfully, you simply have to open Root Explorer and go to /system//lib/egl/. There you have to check egl.cfg and if libGLES_android.so is renamed into libGLES_android.so.bak. In egl.cfg you should find only this line "0 1 adreno200".

If there are no changes made to both files flashing this Mod then it didn´t change anything. Oh well it might add some tweaks to the build.prop, but i doubt that because like said previously the mounting path is different and the update-binary is device specific.
However I´ve already ported this mod for our SGW and sucessfully flashed it.
You can download it here.
I´ve called it Buttersmooth because it´s not really butter for ICS but just disabling CPU rendering and mainly some tweaks for the GPU.
Thanks for porting for our SGW, i have flashed it already, seems smooth

smooth but seems got problem with superuser after using this tweaks.
Then you should go to CWM recovery and fix permissions. I will upload a lite version of this too. This will only disable CPU rendering which already makes it way smoother. But add no tweaks to build.prop.
Oh well I started a separate thread in the developer section about this. There you will also find the lite version too.

Really smooth in hd games, but still got lagging sometimes, perhaps because the kernel (using the xxlm8 kernel) i think...
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda app-developers app
You will never get this device completely laggfree. To get it nearly laggfree you would need a dual core cpu, faster and more RAM. The real bottleneck is the amount of RAM and it´s performance.

dont think it makes games more smooth. I guess it just disable some lags and not smooth animations in UI-rendering.

Bump
I can't find the thread but here is what you have to do.
Using root explorer ( or similar program), navigate to /system and set folder to writable. Open ur build.prop with text editor and add the following line:
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval= (enter desired time in seconds here)
Then save and reboot.
I think the default is like 120 or something. I am not sure on JB but the line isn't there like it used to be. On the OG epic, the line was there and my value was modified to 300.
I would suggest backing up your build.prop before modifying. I am still new to the sgs3 so I am making an assumption this will work for you.

Interesting app. Which tweaks have you tried in it and which will cause issues?
And, of the tweaks you've tried, how do you know they are actually working?
So these edits in the link do you just add them or do you have to change whats there to say the mode. Because I just add at the bottom and every thing seems to be working I think nothing broke lol sonthats a good sign

I only do the ones I understand! If you go to the forum for this app there are tones of explanation of what each tweak or mod does. THE ONLY ONES I DIDNT USE WERE THE CAMERA MODS DUE TO THE FACT I HEARD THEY BRAKE THE CAMERA. Other than that just make a nand and tweak away! How do I know its working...i guess i dont. It seems faster, multitasking, internet and data...to me it seems to be working. My only concern was if you invoke a tweat or mod that doesnt play well with a tweat or mod in your rom already...they tend to fight each other and can make things sluggish. I noticed that the build.prop edits are put at the end of the build.prop file under /system and also in /system/etc/init.d. In the ladder of the locations i think is where Platt puts the tweaks for my rom Synergy. Thats my 2 cents! I have been running safe with the mods and tweaks for over 24 hours now and no issues!

I've tested a few, then used 3 different benchmark tools and speed test apps.
Many of the ones I've tested obviously require custom kernels, etc or otherwise have 0 effect. Ex: vsync.....
As a good reminder, before you start experimenting, make sure you back up your device with a fresh nandroid.

[HOWTO] Add apps to Multiwindow on Stock ROMs

I was just thinking to myself "why mod it so that every app you have installed shows up in the multiwindow bar?" This presents incompatibilities and also makes it hard for those who have a lot of apps installed (me) to really find what we're looking for to actually multitask with.
With the latest leak they've added the ability to specify which apps get multiwindow support through the awesome CSC engine. Now, instead of having all of your installed apps show up, you can pick and choose which ones you'd like to be added.
If you ever wondered how those Sprint apps got added to the list, it's by editing the feature.xml file located in /system/csc
Find this line:
Code:
<!-- Multi Window -->
<CscFeature_MultiWindow_AddOnApp>com.mobitv.client.sprinttvng,com.sprint.smps,com.sprint.mobilewallet,com.sprint.android.musicplus2033,com.nbadigital.gametimelite,com.zipwhip.devicecarbon.sprint,com.zipwhip.devicecarbon.sprint,com.handson.h2o.nascar09,com.telenav.app.android.sprint</CscFeature_MultiWindow_AddOnApp>
Add and remove apps by package name. This is a bit advanced so it's more for ROM chefs or users who know how to retrieve package names and feel comfortable editing this file. If someone were to create an app to do this, it would be even better. I have over 300 apps installed and this is the perfect way to make sure I'm not scrolling endlessly as I try to find the app I want to multitask with. A reboot later and your new app should show up in the list.
Thank you.

Thanks Freeza!
I modified the feature.xml and added the Yahoo Mail app (com.yahoo.mobile.client.android.mail) entry and then rebooted. When I went into Multi Window, I was able to add Y!Mail and was able to split screen it.
Nice!!Thank you works fantastic

Beat me to it, found this earlier and was going to post, great job freeza!
SPRINT GS3 FAQ
Appears Chrome Beta and Chrome are not able to co-exist in Multiwindow. I added Chrome Beta (com.chrome.beta) to feature.xml and then Chrome is not available to split screen with. I then tried to add Chrome (com.android.chrome) to feature.xml as well, but only 1 Chrome will show up.
Great info...A little too complicated for me...worried id screw it up...but still, thanks.
