[Q] USB OTG One X JB - HTC One X

I have a fewquestions regarding OTG on my One X running JB. I searched Google and search and did not find the answer to my question.
1. I currently have my psx game images on my usb thumb drive to keep my sd card clear. Will using this function cause any hardware damage if I use it for 1-2 hours a day every(every other) day? Or just significant battery drain?
2. Is there any way to create a shortcut on the launcher screen to quickly mount or unmount my usb drive, or am I stuck going into settings>storage and then unmounting?
3. How necessary is it to "safely unmount" my thumb drive everytime
Thanks in advance,
David
Edit: fixed typos

I can help you out somewhat.
3. When you safely unmount a drive, the system will make sure all other processes have finished reading and/or writing to the drive and then unmount it once its no longer being used. If you've only got your game images on there then you won't need to worry about safely unmounting the drive because nothing is being written to the drive and so nothing can be corrupted. So in your case, you don't need to worry about the unmount, just disconnect it when your done.

It is highly unlikely to cause any damage to your phone by using otg for extended periods of time but you are going to notice a hit to battery life as your device will be powering the flash drive you will be using as well as itself
If you are rooted you can install an app like stickmount. When otg is enabled you will have a notification in the drawer. Just click it to unmount your drive

SD gone mad.

I'm facing a weird problem with my SD Card...it keeps saying mounted as Read only. Everytime I change its attribute via properties. After mounting the same problems are shown again. M too sick of it, I can neither play songs or view stuffs. Help

You haven't knocked the little tab on the actual SD for read only have you?
Does the SD work on laptop/pc?
If it does is it read only or writeable and if so full format it.

It works on my pc. Infact after no proper solutions i've formatted it, but it haunts me again...i cannot format my sd card all the time. What is the cause of this....anyone?

When you disconnect the sdcard from the pc on disc drive mode, ensure you "eject" it from the pc first, then change the phone connection to charge only. By doing it this way, you can minimise chances of corrupting files. This maybe was part of the problem?

Don't think Micro SD cards have these. Does sound like a corrupted SD card to me, so yes make sure you unmount it before unplugging the phone

Computer not showing phone on AOKP?

My computer always detected my phone fine until I installed AOKP. I have USB debugging enabled, and I dont get the usual option to mount as mass storage or whatever it was. Is there an option that I seem to be overlooking?
Should be a USB mass storage app in the app drawer thats what aokp came with when i flashed it and without it it doesn't connect to PC I deleted it and then had to restore it when i was testing removable apps

Thanks for the file, after that was installed magically the stock looking one started working. It won't let me go in to my sd card, but atleast I can get into my phone.
Yea getting in external SD is a bit of a pain I just pop it in a card reader to use it I put most of the stuff I need for the rom I'm on on internal SD tho cuz it's alot faster than the external

Yea that's what I planned on. I didn't need to follow the instructions you sent, the file was labeled "install" automatically on my phone so it did everything for me haha.
IF you have fast charging option enabled...
""" YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONNECT TO YOUR PC AFTER EACH REBOOT! """
""" This setting will set fast charge ON after each reboot. While fast charge is on, you can *only* charge your phone! """

[Q] Funky Storage Issue

I've got a Sprint Galaxy SIII, SPH-L710 16GB, no SD Card. When I connect the device to my computer (WinXP, latest Samsung Drivers Installed) I'm able to see files I have downloaded to the storage via the device itself, as well as an .apk that I moved over from my computer, but I'm not able to see the various folders (DCIM, Foursquare, Music, Goomanager, Etc...) Is there something I'm missing here? Phone is running CM10.1 JellyBro.
**In the attached screenshot you can see the various files and folders, when I try to access the storage on my desktop, all I can see are the GAPPS.zip file, and the WhatsApp.apk
I know when I connect mine (vistax64) it pulls it up as a media device should be able to see it under my computer. If not I would look under your media player settings. Or you may wanna check to see if USB debugging is checked on your phone

Thanks. I actually tried that. USB debugging changed nothing. When I threw an SD Card in though, it suddenly was able to see SOME of my folders... I'm gonna do a clean wipe and start fresh, using the CM10.1 Official Nightly. I really need to get this remedied. I'll circle back once I have some results.
Should be studying for my MA Life Insurance license, and not buggering with my phone... oh well.
Try a different USB port on the computer

Thanks. Unfortunately, that didn't work for me. I'm trying to make sense of the file system on this device, Emulated, Vs SDcard and ExtSDcard...

Am I missing something?

I have come from an xperia play, I used to be able to move apps to SD on it when it was running gingerbread or ICS. I have searched and searched but I cant even find it mentioned anywhere that this is not possible on the note 2. Any ideas?
It was also possible to mount the SD card to my computer, through usb sort of like a memory stick. I seem to only be able to to do a slow media transfer now.
This is my first post so forgive me if I have done anything wrong or something considered noobish.

Moving apps to sd is possible when the app lets you do it, just see the details for each app on the app manager.
As for the usb/media mode, guess you can't really choose anymore, but check your cable, mine seems pretty fast to transfer files

I have the 16GB model and I must say it fills up pretty fast. I am using DirectoryBind and it is working great for me. It requires root access and one or two reboots but it's well worth it.
Another solution to the low internal memory is a mod called Ext2InternalSd which basically switches between your internal and external memory. I find it quiete extreme as a solution but that's just my opinion.
We are stuck with MTP mode now instead of USB mass storage.
Its not bad, but at least with UMS I could see the previews of my images when connected to my computer. With MTP I can't

Welcome to jelly bean
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
ICS does not allow to install to SD Card/// You can run a script on a rooted rom that swaps the internal memory for the external... Look it up dude
Use airdroid. One of my favorite apps.. solution to mtp

[Q] Enable USB Mass Storage Mode in AOSP(A)

I'm having trouble with MTP using the latest version of Paranoid Android, it's SO slow, I just copied a 5MB file to the phone and the transfer lasted like 15 seconds, also, I really don't like that "media" layer thats added, I need to make some space in my internal storage/SDCARD and I can't even use a program to calculate the folder sizes, I want direct access to it, just that, I don't understand why it's not available in AOSP.
Well, I searched and someone said "hey, mount the storage/sd with recovery", ok, here we go. And nope, last TWRP doesn't work for some reason. OK, lets go back to CMW. And nope, again, can't mount them, it just won't work, nothing happens when I check the mount button...
Also I read that using the "Fix permissions" fix may solve it, well, it doesn't, tried that with both recoveries.
So, is there any way to enable USB Mass Storage Mode? Also, why is MTP SO DAMN SLOW? I've searched and I'm not the only one thats having this problem it seems.
Thanks.
Anyone?
Samsung made it like that, you cant do nothing about thet so far.

Can you explain a bit further about that? What did Samsung do?
Cant sorry, samsung made your sd car like a media storage not all file storage, more for music, movies, pictures, thats one of the reasons why samsung wont let you save apps on sd card.
