You'll lose root.
I suggest that if you want to upgrade, just unlock the phone and download my rom. You can go through the options and keep everything stock.
The lifeless rom is v9 with the v9 boot.image.
But I'll lose everything on my phone if I install the ROM right?

What you will lose:
- Previously installed Apps and User data.
- Text Messages if you were using the normal messaging app.
What you shouldn't lose:
- Photos
- Music
- Any file stored in the SD card part of your internal storage.
Precautions:
- I recommended making a backup of all your apps with titanium backup.
- Also, before you install the rom, make a backup on TWRP also.

If you use v9 stock rom and follow the instruction you'll keep your data. Only thing is you'll lose some settings in system settings; when I upgraded the phone forgot all the paired BT devices.

I read somewhere that someone used survival mode on supersu before flashing the ota to v9 and they said they maintained root. Haven't tried it yet since I haven't gotten the update so far.

As long as you still have supersu and your not getting a su binary error, you should be able to get it to work. Try going into supersu in the settings there is a check box to enable supersu. Uncheck it then recheck it. Thats what I had to do.

The biggest news is the LTE stuff. According to analysis at S4GRU, one problem with Sprint's initial rollout of LTE is that the handsets have been programmed to downshift from LTE to EVDO at too high a level of LTE signal strength. Hopefully, this is a fix for that.
This update news really belongs in the XDA Sprint subforum forum, but now that it has been separated out I can't find it.

No go. It boots into CWM, then it fails with a signature validation error.
Gotta wait until I am near the laptop when the phone has a decent charge.
Then flash original non rooted rom, apply firmware, then re root the phone.

If you go to the dev section there are a few post showing how to upgrade with root. All I've had to do in the past was:
Madhouze's Instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747560
copy the file from it's directory to my SD Card (file is in /cache)
boot into CWM
Install ZIP from SDCard
choose zip from SDCard
choose the update.zip file you copied
Install ZIP from SDCard
choose zip from SDCard
select the .zip to add the custom recovery
Install ZIP from SDCard
choose zip from SDCard
select the zip from recovery file
Reboot and enjoy~!
Note: I got these instruction from madhouze's post in the dev section. I did not come up with them, only passing it along for other people to have.
EDIT: Confirmed the method that madhouze posted works. One note though update the SU binary if you are having problems with the root.

Had my GS3 for a few months and it's been great! So I got my GF hooked up with a Sprint GS3 as well (she loves her gadgets, too):good: but it's still on ICS and not getting the JB update from Sprint. What's the issue? Tried the system update/ reboot / etc. Hers is not rooted. How do I get it to prompt her for that update?
Thanks!
Very easy process, go to system settings, click on applications Manager. You will see tabs at the top (download, running, all). Go to the all tab and scroll down to Google service frame work, click on it and on the next screen click on clear data. Go back to system update, this will show you available updates. If you don't see it in first try, do this for few more time and you will get the JB update.

Don't accept an OTA if you're rooted. If you're rooted just flash a JB ROM instead. If you accept an OTA with a rooted device you run the chance of losing root.

Provided you have a custom recovery installed (CWM or TWRP) you can accept the OTA update and it will fail because you're not on the stock recovery. Doing this will also help to avoid the repeated OTA notification. :good::good::good:

So I updated to 4.1.2 recently and decided I'd simply root my phone. Now today I have the AT&T updater telling me I have an update pending. I'm already on 4.1.2 and the only possible reason I could conceive as to why this is popping up is because during rooting something must have changed and that flagged the updater as me having an obsolete firmware. Anyone else getting this?

If you are going to stick with stock, you may want to use autoruns to disable the check for updates. That way at least the notification will go away.

Not entirely, I did the OTA update while keeping root using SuperSU Pro and the root saving function. I had a similar failure at 25% when I first tried to update but found it was because I had missed a system app when defrosting. Make sure you've reinstalled/defrosted all the system apps you removed when you debloated.
As you're able to download the OTA update it means you've avoided tripping the flash counter and have been able to maintain the Status:Normal. I rooted originally with the Exynos abuse and have been using SuperSU Pro's root saving function since then to keep root through the OTA updates. It is possible but I will admit it has caused more difficulty then if I went the Mobile Oden or TWRP route.
Crap, I deleted some system apps.
Is there a list for me to compare?

Hello all Im afraid Im in need of dire help
I cannot connect to wifi. every time I try to turn it on a notification comes up
"prevention information" [see attachment]
here's how it happened
I rooted my phone via tutorial by chainfire and everything was working fine
I then decided to backup my phone using clockwork mod
-however rebooting to backup brought some small glitch so I decided to go back to regular root
I unrooted my phone following this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258628
I then rooted my phone again
*at this point the wifi didnt work so I unrooted again and performed a factory reset
the wifi still doesnt work and im not sure why
I am currently not rooted
phone stats are:
samsung galaxy s4 sgh-m919 tmobile 4.2.2
baseband version m919uvuamdL
thank you
Edit: yes I have rebooted as recommended by the notification

I just Odin'd back to stock yesterday because I had lost my backup of the 100% stock ROM... After rooting, I as well was getting the Prevention Information error; I just used Titanium Backup to freeze SEAndroid... Using TiBu to freeze an app is like uninstalling it, but it's less permanent. It doesn't run, it doesn't start.. just like it's not there, but you can 'defrost' the app and it's back to doing what it does. It did get rid of the Prevention error and it all still works.

The warning you are getting is only from rooting. All you have to do is remove KNOXAgent.apk from the /system/app directory. You can use any eoog explorer found on the market to do this. That's all that is. The apk is pointless.
