I'm having some issues with my connection. I am running stock rooted LJ7. My upload speed reports as .1 using a browser based speed test and any random number between 1 and 100 Mbps using an installed speed test application. It also will not allow me to update PRL or profile.
I had this problem previously and ended up having to restore to an older backup. While that fixed the problem, it is back again and doing a restore and losing data is just a pain.
Things I've tried: having sprint reset the connection, resetting from my end using the dialer, cussing, rebooting, switching to LTE mode and back as well as a few other things I can't think of at the moment as I am half asleep.
Things I haven't tried: factory reset from within the OS, kicking it, factory reset from CWM.
Any suggestions? It's quite annoying. Internet is almost unusable and I cannot send MMS unless on WiFi. (this problem only affects cell radio, not WiFi) Oh, and it also had an awful latency last time it did this but it doesn't seem to be doing it now. Attached are SS of the tests. Do note this is NOT eHRPD.
Thanks.

The second one is hilarious...65mb on upload...though when you flash roms, are you full wiping in between the new rom flashes, not particularly backups?
Uploads tend to be slower in general, though I'd see your sprint store cuz you may have an overloaded network, depending on the time of day.
Yes I do full wipe between ROMs and restores. I've taken the network into account, that's not it. I have a second device with which I check the network speeds and they do just fine. May just end up downloading a fresh ROM and start from scratch.

I'm running cm7 nightly v28. For some reason the 3g does no work. The only way I can access data is to pick up some 4g. Is this a common problem? Fix?
Reflash the rom. I haven't had the issue but that could work.

Reflash the rom, and if its not in your power widget, check mobile data under wifi settings.
Sometimes mine do go right away so I turn it off and on quickly and that seems to do the trick.

Thanks for the responses. I tried reflashing but that didn't work. The turned mobile data on and off but got nothing. I even tried going in airplane mode and then out and nada. I think I might try flashing a different rom to get it working. Could it also be my PRL?
Its shouldn't affect it, but being on the latest PRL never hurts.
Make sure that its on in wireless networks...
This is my EVO, there are many like it, but this one is mine....
Mobile network is stuck on turning on -__-
Well try to reboot it real quick. And sometimes it can take it a minute or two to actually turn on.
I've rebooted several times. I've done full wipes and even to different roms. It just won't budge. :-/
I was having issues with 3G connectivity earlier. Getting lots of code 67's and data call notices. 4G was working fine so I switched on and used that. 3G is fine and back to normal now.

Did anyone come up with a concrete answer on this issue? I too have this problem and tried all the suggestions except 4g... it's not available in my area. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Try flashing a sense rom and updating your profile and prl

So I just got my Sprint GS2 on Wednesday. Rooted it and flashed a ROM (Blazer) immediately (not too worried about LOS really). Everything worked awesome. 3G/4G great, Hotspot hack working fine, no problems. Today I wake up, go to class, and realize I have no 3G coverage. Weird, my brother on Sprint had coverage fine there. No 3G or 4G coverage on the way home, or at my house where both are strong. Turn on WiFi, hangs at obtaining IP. Same at work etc. tonight.
Anyone have any similar problems? I've rebooted, shut down for 5+ minutes, etc multiple times. Any suggestions on where to go from here?
Edit: Finally connected with WiFi by setting static IP address, reading more into it 3G seems like roaming issues, may try a custom PRL, 4G ??? there's pretty good 4G coverage in my suburban area and all the sudden I get it nowhere.
just a shot in the dark same thing happened to me.. only fix i found was to flash the rom agsin with out doing a wipe. its my story to the t. same rom same issues same everthing. hope that helps u out, got me fixed up

I was just thinking I'd try that. I'm gonna go ahead and do a full wipe too, just to be on the safe side.
you don't need to at max just wipe cache and davik so you can save your data and still be back up and running

Anyway, same damn issue today. This is getting really old, really fast. Almost wish I would have just got a Nexus S if I'm going to be having radio problems galore on a phone that can't roam for crap. Time to go reflash my ROM, again...
Hey. I flashed task's AOKP 8/26 rom and started experiencing strange loading times when on the internet. I just flashed Paranoid Android's rom today and I'm having the same result. SpeedTest app says I only have 40-100ms ping, but takes 5 minutes for it to actually find that data.
It says on the top that I am in '4G'
I don't think it's a throttling issue, I get 20 Mb/s down after speed test finishes
My ping is 95ms, but it takes about 4 or 5 minutes to finish the ping process
I am on the LTE settings that came with my ROM and they are the same as task's as well.
Upload speed is around .84, 4.0, 3.0 MB/s respectively
All Web-browsing, SpeedTest app, Google Music, and Play Store take forever to initially load
Any ideas on what it could be or what I could try? I have tried flashing the latest modem, same result as I had on task's and Paranoid's rom.
I was just about to post a thread on this same issue. Its driving me nuts!
I fist noticed the issue when I flashed from CM9 to CM10. Today I tried task's jb aokp ROM. Same issue. So I flashed cm9, it didn't get any better. Next I'm gonna try Odin back to stock. What's really odd to me is WiFi is unaffected. Only when on 3g/4g.
I've checked my imei, and its still correct. I've tried all 3 available modems.
I'm not to sure what else to try. Hopefully we can come up with a solution.

I had the same exact issues with tasks ROM and paranoid android too lol.. went back to wanam lite 1.3... the T-Mobile jb leak that was ported to our phone I had no issues with so I don't think it has anything to do with jb but I could be wrong...

Have you all with these issues posted these with the ROMS thread and brainstorm with other users of the ROM? You could try that. I personally heard great things about Task's ROMS and paranoids. To make sure, have you all tried wiping EVERYTHING in recovery and i mean wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, before flashing the ROM? You all might have to do that and then report back.

wow, wasn't expecting people with the same issue lol. I checked my Data usage also. Only at 4.1 out of 5 Gigs.
And yes Bruce, thanks for the suggestion. I wipe everything possible before every flash and always have. To the point where I even wipe things twice without realizing. (Cache, Dalvik, storage, system, cache, etc etc, even the eemc).
Tried basic apn settings as well as the 'phone' hdspa+ settings. same issue. reflashed over and over again, problem persists.
AT&T is beginning to work on a major LTE rollout from what I understand. I suspect this is a side effect of preparation. It would be interesting to see what going back to stock does.

That's what I thought too but flashing back to stock with Odin seemed to fix it. Problem started after installing 9-02 cm10.
how are you guys doing on this issue?
i flashed back to stock as well and my problems were fixed.
...really want a modded rom though. think it's a cm10 issue?
Same here. Flashed back yo stock because my h+ was behaving like 2g...seems to have helped quite a bit.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I see similar behavior while stock, have managed to not root and flash yet. Although, in my case it isn't actually 5 minutes, but there's definitely latency, it just doesn't normally show up in the ping time.
A friend with his also at stock (never rooted nor flashed) mentioned he was seeing this as well...
I too have been getting problems. I thought initially that it was due to Task's ROM, but then i went back to CM10. And im still getting these issues. My girlfriend is running AOKP on her SG3 on Tmobile, and she's not getting data issues. Im thinking its a problem with AT&T.
I was about to go back to stock and see how that goes. But since 78c10 says he sees no improvement, then....idk wats going on. =(
stock not rooted. same here.. takes forever for things to load. the connection seems to stall for a bit then kick back in.. has to be something with att not the phone or roms etc..
Having the same issue. Just got done wiping everything and formatting my SD. Still VERY slow. Was going to try stock next.
On task's AOKP.
If anyone finds a solution please post.

Everyone here should post their issues and location because they've been rolling out LTE here in Philadelphia & it caused a lot of the same issues for me & others. It may be completely unrelated but it's a strange coincidence considering how much work they're doing on LTE right now.

It seems to be hit and miss here I just keep rebooting and then I'll get lucky one time and it will have a snappy data connection lol and its universal so I think its an ATT thing. I have been back and forth between stock, ktoonsez, and cm10 today and it isn't bias. I am in fort Irwin, CA right now and am straddling H and H+ but with solid bars... and sometimes I can't even load xda it will take like 5 minutes but what in really find strange is that I can stream Netflix...

A few of us in the Houston area are reporting data connection problems (reported in AOKP thread). Someone stated that Houston has been having problems with their LTE network... This would make sense, as i was at a friends house in the heights on Sunday, and we had full bars LTE and neither of us could connect or stream anything data wise. Now, while I'm on latest AOKP, he has a skyrocket, and is running stock ICS... So it has to be the network.
I live in the Woodlands, and ive been having the same issues up here too (just speed tested, & topped out at 9 mb/s - i remember getting upwards of 40 mb/s when I first got this phone). Really starting to piss me off.
Anyone in the Houston area herd anything from AT&T yet?

Up in Humble, have the same issues. Thought it was something I had done so wiped down everything and flashed tasks from again, then switched to a different one, but saw little improvement. Good to know its at&t maybe and not me screwing something up.

Just to let everyone know my issue was solved by going back to a 8/25 AOKP flash and whola, perfect again.
I would have to say that its related to the current builds. At least on mine.

Hmm...tats weird. I wonder if this is really the problem. Has anyone tried this approach?
So I got my galaxy s3 yesterday and decided that I might as well root and flash immediately and not waste the time setting up just to do it again. I flashed cwm and then tried a couple different runs that wouldn't boot. I went back to my backup and then installed some cwm 10 variant Rom differently but then my 3g was acting up.
I changed the setting under mobile networks to SIM from NV to see if it would make a difference but it didn't so I went back to my stock Rom and unrooted to start over but I never changed the SIM setting back and started getting no SIM errors.
I then went through a couple more unsuccessful flashes before finally having luck with paranoid android and thought that changing back to NV from sim would solve my issues, but it hasn't.
Now my 3g signal Is very bad even when I had the stock Rom and often holds tool 1x even though I have an air rave. What can I do at this point? I don't think trying to hop back to stock sprint Rom will fix the issue since I already tried that once.
I wiped appropriate caches and data every time and even factory reset to before and later find out my initial issues were probably due to hash sum mismatches.

Try to update profile and prl. then restart. make sure your in a good area with strong 3g. best is WiFi especially if you know the speed your paying for. its possible the slow speed is on the sprint side due to lte up dates or bad coverage.
I've been having data issues that I've addressed in an earlier post but no one's been able to help me, which is understandable, but basically my data gets stuck on the loading screen anytime I try to open a browser tab or app, including the Play Store I've tried everything I can do to fix it but nothing seems to work. Can someone please help me out with a reliable solution?? Thanks

What have you done to try to fix it? And what is your current phone setup?
I want to see your results with speedtest. I'd wager you just have a terrible connection.

Which brings the next question.
To OP, is it a noticeable change from previous speeds in the same location? Or are you just not happy with the speeds you have always been getting?
I am currently running the latest RootBox nightly running android 4.2.2 with a custom theme from the Play Store but the rom is not the issue because this problem occurs no matter what rom I'm running. Touchwiz roms minimizes the amount of times this happens but it still does happen.. I've tried just about every troubleshooting step in trying to fix it including flashing/testing different radios, changing my T-Mobile APNs, reflashing the rom, flashing back to complete stock and doing the whole process all over again, etc.. Nothing seems to fix these data issues. And I don't have a terrible connection. It's not necessarily the best but it's not terrible and I know that because SOMETIMES a reboot would fix it and I would get my normal down/up speeds back but when my data gets stuck I can't even perform a speed test because it fails to search for a server.

As long as your speeds are consistent, you don't have an issue. Every samsung phone I have owned has had the data "hang" annoyance. It will flash the upload arrow, but not download. Usually I just toggle data and it is back to normal.
Yeah my data signal always appears as if it's working but all it does is as you said, HANG. I have to constantly toggle data on/off until it starts working but like I said within a matter of minutes it continues to hang.. It is very irritating, not to mention how I can only take advantage of it for maybe 10 minutes? before the issue progresses. This did not happen before. My data would always stick but now? No matter where I am this issue always happens. If you have any other ideas or advice I'd greatly appreciate it but regardless thank you very much for your assistance.

I've been experiencing the "data hang" for the past 2 or 3 days.. It's definitely the T-Mo network
Yep.. confirmed. It's T-Mo, probably because they launched the new pre-paid plan and they are going to be doing "network management" supposedly to give better access to us contract customers (pre-paid gets slower speeds depending on the amount you pay)
They're probably implementing the new speed governing system and that's why it's all jacked up
Incidentally, I found a awesome resource to use when we are questioning the network:

I dont think tmobiles website has anything to do with "questioning the network". It's quite seperate. Isitdownrightnow only checks websites if they are offline/online, not mobile 4g networks. This is what i assume
You know, you're right.. weird though that their website shows difficulties when they're network was having issues.
