Okay first of all hi this is my first time here so I apologize if this has already been posted (most likely has..).
I'm not a very patient person when It comes through reading forum threads hours after I've woken up.
Anyways~ on to my question.
I am looking into purchasing my very first Android (yay!) so of course I've done very extensive (sorta) research on the different OS versions and phones. I've come to decide that I am mostly interested in the new-ish ICS version of Android OS, however I am on a very tight budget for phone buying (I'm talkin' non-smartphone prices here...). I have decided to go the roundabout way and get an older (cheaper) phone off of ebay and root it to get the OS I want.
Now here's where I need some help, I am mostly interested in the Huawei U8652 (aka at&t's Fusion) and HTC Mytouch 4G Slide (PB65100). I would like the ICS ROM for either (preferably both :good and the Stock file in case I mess this all up.
Any pointers, links, and/or guides would be of great help! and I will definitely credit you if it works without a hitch :good:
Please note that I will not even attempt anything until I have located the stock files so I dont end up with a dead phone.
Thank you so much for reading, and in advance for your help. :victory:
Side note: I am also open to advice on better phones that are not as new that would be better than the two I am looking at. My basic needs in a phone are a good camera, decent speed concerning apps, and wifi (of course). I am not a very patient person so laggy/glitchy/buggy phones are not welcome, thanks! :good:
me too..same question

I have been looking into buying an HTC Diamond from Telus, but have kept hesitent due to a few major reasons: poor phone quality, reception, and dropped calls, and sluggish, slow interface.
Browsing the web for feedback and solution, I found an ad on the web offering to update the ROM which would improve in these areas. The person said it would turn diamond from triband to quad band, significantly improving reception, increase the speed of the pda, and the other interesting options. The only problem with that was that he was charging $100 dollars to do this. Thankfully, I discovered this forum, so now there is hope that I can tweak the Diamond. But it seems there is not one definite rom update, but a few. So my question is, do they all provide the basic features of increasing the processing/ display speed, and reception on top of other customized features, or is there a particular one the dude could have been talking about.
I really like the look of this phone, and it will be my first PDA. I don't want to get into some **** though on a 3 year contract. I am not noobish when it comes to these things; in fact, i enjoy messing around with my phone and computer -- customized both quite suitably.
If anyone has a ROM in mind that he or she uses very successfully, is very satisfied, please post it here and link the specs. Any advice, recomendations are welcome. I don't care much for music player, got an iPod, but compatability, accessibility, speed, reliabbility, and battery are very important. Naturally I am not looking for a mini laptop, so the phone aspect comes foremost important. Basically, I am trying to avoid restarting it every 10 minutes, rebooting, all that, which will just add on to the stress.
I also noticed some talk about Manila. What is it exactly? Is it just a theme, or something more. Well, any help is sincerely valued. Thank you.

Hello.
It seems to me you have a lot of reading to do and a lot of catching up.
Bear in mind that all of us in here clearly take the risk of loosing warranty, since all the roms are home made and not official from htc. This means that it is solely your responsibility if something goes wrong.
I respect the fact that you are not noobish but for PDA stuff treat yourself that you are noobish and read from scratch ( friendly advice to avoid probs)
If you want a suitable rom for you it comes down to you and only you to take the risk and start trying what is availlable.
No one can tell you what is suitable for you and if it will work or not etc etc., quality and functionality is totally subjective
I repeat that if you want to try you must get used to the fact of warranty is void with these roms.
So lets begin.
1. understanding what you do is important so here you are: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211 THIS IS THE BIBLE
2. Roms: look in the forum for the varius roms, see the specs, progs, if you like it try, if not, try another one
keep in mind the above link. read it carefully if you do not want to end up with a bricked device. follow instruction carefully
Finally, i have been flashing roms for a year now in 3 htc devices i have come across and never ever ended up with a brick, however, no warranty.
and again there are ways to get the device back to original state for warranty reasons, you will get there in the forum, but get to know the stuff well and understand them befor you do anything.
Lastly, always read before you ask since most what you need, there is an answer in here.
I hope i have helped you as much as i could and i hope you will get your device up and running with the stuff in here, thanks to the amazing hard work and knowledge of the members/senior members/mods/admins/cooks etc (i hope i have not left anyone out )
Greetings
Keep in mind that *almost all* of the ROMs available here on the diamond forum are for the GSM version of the diamond, NOT the CDMA version (which is what the TELUS model is). Good luck with you research.

i like the pic man!!! now this is something i did not know.
greetz from greece
thanks a lot everyone. i am gona have a read. nuff respect.
What a great question! I'm so glad you asked!
I recently gave in and got my bootloader unlocked on my Verizon R800x, just so I could see what all the hoopla was about. After a few days of analysis, I've already been able to draw some conclusions that I hope new seekers will find useful.
There are several things to know when making a decision like this one.
1. What model of Xperia Play am I rocking? Not all Xperia Plays are created equal. There is the data connection to consider. If you are in most of the world outside of the US, you probably have a carrier that uses GSM for data. So does AT&T and Sprint in the US. Because it is so common, there are lots of Custom ROMS and kernels, unlocking the bootloader is easy, and many people are experienced in supporting GSM. But you're a Verizon Wireless customer? - sorry, you use a CDMA connection, which means your choices are much more limited, unlocking the bootloader is more of a challenge, and people tend to laugh at you!
2. Do I want to use the phone primarily for gaming with that sweet gamepad and not-so-sweet touchpads? Do I really depend on my phone to be 100% useable at all times? Better stick with ROMs and kernels based off of stock. No need to even know what a bootloader is!
3. Or, screw the games, I wanna be big, bad and bold, on the bleeding edge of technology! Well then, plan on furthering your techie education! You're going to be learning all kinds of fun and interesting terms, like soft brick, hard brick, adb, fastboot, flashing , RAM, ROM, push, root and boot - after awhile it all starts sounding like a naughty little party is going on in your phone! Hey, Baby! I got yer bootloader right here, know wut I'm sayin?
How about some do's and don'ts?
DON'T post a question on how to root, unlock the bootloader, install coolappofthemoment.apk or what does any of these terms mean without doing a little research on your own first. Chances are, someone else asked it at least once, probably a million times, and the only responses you're likely to get are "GEEZE, READ THE BLOODY FORUMS, YA N00B!!!"
DO use Google, search the forums, and actually READ the threads that seem relevant to your question. Yes, you will read a more than a few posts like "Does this work yet?", "I don't like the color of...", "MemberX is a troll!", but interspersed in there is quite a bit of information that you may benefit from and often you will find your answer much more quickly than posting a question and waiting for a valid response.
DON'T be afraid of rooting your phone but...
DO be aware that your warranty may (will) be affected by modifying your phone.
DON'T remove anything preinstalled by the service provider until you...
DO a Nandroid Backup first. (There's a term you will want to explore further. Hint: Look into CWM Custom Recovery.)
DON'Tuninstall system apps right away. Instead freeze them (OOOH another term you might want to learn. Hint: Titanium Backup among other apps.) Once you are comfortable with restoring your Nandroid Backup, you understand what the app does, and you experience no issues freezing it, then you can remove it if you want to free up some internal storage space.
DO pay attention to who the developers are for different projects, as well as frequent posters with actual useful contributions. You can tell who they are by the phrase "The Following 9 million Users Say Thank You to UltraDev For This Useful Post:" These are the people you want to make your bestest friends.
WOW !! Who knew there was so much to learn !!! Can't I just skip all that and charge blindly ahead??? I have one word for you. BRICK !!! OK, I have another word for you:
DON'T!!!
After trying the few kernels and Custom ROMs available to me (Yes, I am a lucky Verizon customer), I decided that, for me, it's fun to be able to juggle razors (Get It? Be on the BLEEDING EDGE???), but since some of the things I like to do with my phone are not yet working with the latest and greatest, I'm better off sticking with a customized stock configuration. The great thing is, I can always try the newer stuff and then go back to the "safe" setup.
Oh yeah! I almost forgot! There is one more DO for you, and it's extremely important!
DO click that Thanks button when someone posts a project or information that you find useful. We all want to know our efforts are appreciated, right? RIGHT?????? <<Taps his foot and looks pointedly at the Thanks button>>
Your post reminded me of Excel, of Excel Saga's fame. For that you carved a little nostalgia hole in my rocky heart.
That's going to be very useful, and you had me laughing for 10 mins with the bootloader thing

Dear Sirs,
please forgive me for asking this, but from two days of searching on this forum I still cannot answer myself this.. (seems im not asking myself the right questions)
I have been an i-device user, but with a need for an 8inch tab i also decided its about time to try out some android awesomeness. Luckily as it seems LG offers this perfect size of 8.3" and a possibility of a pure android system. Since im from europe i can only find a stock LG version (non-GPA) which i really do not want. Imho, a crime much like cutting a nice glass of whisky with some coke. So the question is:
Can i buy the LGA version and transform it into a GPA version, without voiding my warranty? (Possibility to revert?) How hard is this to do, and what would be the best way?
Appreciate your time&effort,
Alexander

Conversion from a 500 to a 510 is currently not a known white or black magic incantation. The voodoo involved seems to be a few minor hardware differences that results in no wifi or bluetooth working when people attempt the switch.
Your fellow magic-users do appreciate it if you search first... However the proper search incantation must have eluded you in this case!
(hopefully you found this funny, as it was meant to be, and yes I even answered your question)
The closest you can get with a 500 is picking a rom that stays close to AOSP...
Thanks! A true gentleman and indeed quite amusing, life is better with a grain of satire I realise this must have been discussed before, but as a novice to this world, obviously my quarries had indeed been weak. In my defense though, there is a tonne of misinformation out there on the great webs.
So something like this would be the best bet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-pad-83/development/rom-android-5-0-lollipop-lrx21m-t2941207
And is there also a bulletproof way to restore to the original LGA state in case one needs to claim warranty?

I apologize for the late reply... I typically run CM12 myself I do not have direct experience with the rom you specified here.
You can restore the tablet to the factory condition. I just did it myself last night. I'll see if I can find the thread that documents the method that I use and add it to this post.
The approach that I use (and just used again last night) is detailed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
Those instructions are for the G2 however I have used that app on both my G3 and my V500 to get them back to pure stock. If you have never plugged your tablet into your computer when it is in download mode, it will take a while for the drivers to install. Once they are installed you should not have to type anything in (if the program is prompting you for information you have not got it right yet). The instructions for the factory reset and download mode entry are not the correct key combinations, but otherwise the procedure does work...
Superb! Thanks alot. As you can see from my signature i have gone ahead an got myself one of theese. Im loving it in every way (except he doesnt wanna jive with airplay all to well), but once decluttered, the lg rom is not that bad. Knowing i can restore everything back, calms my mind about trying rooting and stuff. I heard even airplay can work better once rooted..

Good afternoon,
My name is JJ and my phone or service has taken a dump.
I have the Unlimited Plan with MetroPCS and its paid. I was on the phone today for an hour (on another device) and they have no idea what seems to be the problem. I live in great coverage zone. I have been having troubles connecting to the mobile network as well as getting, receiving both calls and texts. When I am connected to WiFi I am fine..ish. I set up apn settings a few times, most recent today with MetroPCS. My IMEI is good, paid in full phone which is a SM-G925T-ZDETMB (Galaxy s6 edge orginally from T-Mobile)
Took it to the store and they looked at me like I am a monkey.
I need my phone for work and can't afford to get another one. It seems to be in great working order other wise. I figure I might as well flash it and root it and make it mine or something. I downloaded ODIN and got freaked out because I have no clue what I am doing.
Be cool to flash it or root it with Nougat. Is that possible?
So I was hoping for a step by step guide here.
My service and phone worked great until about two weeks ago,..now its as intermittent and flipp flopped as Trump and his hair and policies. Thanks again in advance. Looking forward to a speedy reply. I got nothing else going on.
These forums are really dead for this device, you can root using this link: https://download.chainfire.eu/732/C...F-Auto-Root-zeroltetmo-zeroltetmo-smg925t.zip
There is no Nougat for us. You can flash new ROMs which give better battery life and other nice goodies, you can flash it after you root and install TWRP.
Sorry

Anyway you could give me a step by step? What is flashing compared to rooting? What is a ROM? No obligation here on this noob here.
Whats the difficulty with simply reading the threads here on the subject you're interested in? I mean after all, thats why they're here. If not, there'd be a million threads asking for step by step instructions. It seems like you have the competence to write your issue why not take it a step further and use the search button. Its clear you dont have any specific questions, youre simply looking for root instructions which have been posted and utilized by the thousands of other users who did use the search button. For whatever reason if youre needing these personalized Id suggest using your imagination and pretending they're written directly for you.
If youre still having issues, with this rather simple task that my 8 year old cousin could do by himself than perhaps rooting isnt your thing.. What youre asking is more basic than basic itself. By the way, when searching and reading you'll actually be gaining knowledge!
My apologies if you suffer from any health issues or current mental conditions that prevent you from these tasks..
Good luck

I recently picked up a v510 GPE for $40. I'm comfortable with the linux command line, and have been reading tutorials on how to make an AOSP rom. I've been wanting to dabble in ROM making for some time, but didn't want to risk messing up a more expensive tablet, but am more than happy to risk a $40 tablet to experimentation.
My main question is: Is there some road block that has made it impossible to develop ROMs for the v510? Or is it just that very few people bought it in the first place? From my looking through the forums, it seems that it is the latter, but I'd like to make sure. If there is an issue that has stopped people in the past, It'd be good to know so I can save myself some time.
For anyone who is still holding on to their v510, don't get too excited. I am a total novice with ROM development, and this could very well go nowhere. Though everyone is a novice at some point, right?
Thanks in advance for any info!
