[Q] Stability - 4.1.2 Stock JB Skyrocket Leak on T989 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Long time lurker, 1st post!
I'm wondering did anyone else see frequent freezing and reboots on the Herc with the latest odexed version of mohan's leak? It seems like everyone else ran like cake despite some known issues with the earlier versions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064513
[edit] This was my first time rooting or flashing anything on this particular phone, just been on the latest ICS from Kies.
Before you ask, I read all posts very carefully and made sure the files I used had been tested and were good 2 go. These are the steps I took in order.
1) flashed CWM with Odin
2)nandroid
3)rooting with 3.1.3 ChainsDD SU
4)wipe /data, /system, /cache, and dalvik thoroughly
5) flash the odexed ROM
6)flashed Blaze LB7 (after a reboot and playing around in JB)
It was fine for a few hours until I restored everything with Titanium backup. The next day it was progressively worse until I got home and every 5 - 10 minutes, freeze, reboot. I tried wiping /data, /cache, and dalvik a few times...nothing. I decided to try flashing the deodexed, but I wanted to try touch CWM, so I flashed 6.0.1.5 I believe and then was unable to unmount or wipe /cache. The process would just freeze my recovery, sometimes with a reboot after about 10 mins. Other times touch recovery would freeze while navigating and shut down. At some point it wouldn't get past the AT&T splash screen, would just go dark, and no reboot (at least not within the 20 or so secs I waited). It finally booted and I was able to dl ROM Manager and flash non-touch CWM 6.0.2.7 from there. I was still unable to wipe /cache, but went ahead wiped everything else and flashed the deodexed ROM along with root, Blaze LB7, and rotation fix. A full 24 hours later (restored all apps and froze the AT&T bloat with TB) and I've been running as close to perfect as can be ever since. WTF? Not one freeze or random reboot, while I did get some crazy graphics artifacts in the system menu once. No idea what that's about. Also, the official Twitter app doesn't save my log in info between reboots and app preferences are not saved so I have to choose the default app for an action every time.
Update: The graphic glitches got worse. I've since broken my phone and flashed the Odexed on the replacement. Running fine, but still getting the graphics glitches. Swype will not save the dictionary or allow new entries after the first reboot.

bump for edit

What version of Swype are you using?

Random reboots + vibrating?

I installed the Blackedition rom following every direction in terms of wiping data, cache, dalvik, super wiping, etc. For some reason when I turn my screen off, my phone turns off and starts to vibrate every 2 sec about maybe 6 times. Then it reboots fine. I have no clue what's going on. I tried wiping and installing other ics roms and even reverting back to GB roms as well and I still have the same problem. I tried Odin but I can't even get my phone into download mode. I've been using Screen On as a workaround so my screen doesn't turn off for the time being. Does anyone have any suggestions?

use the darkside superwipe script and then flash darkside digital warfare 2.5.1 or juggernaut
those are very stable roms which many people here have used at one time or another. the superwipe script IS A MUST if you are experiencing issues and will completely clean out your device.
flash superwipe before flashing the rom, then wait ten mins before monkeying around with the phone while the rom completes its initial boot and scripting.

So i got it into download mode for like half a second and a blue screen briefly flashes and it shuts off on me. Anyone have this issue?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using XDA
My issue is somewhat similar to yours, except my rom never fully boots, it gets to the boot animation then freezes and restarts over and over vibrating a few times every time it does. Reason why I'm still stuck on stuck cause it happens with every rom I flash.
Bump? Anybody?

Jedi Knight 3 and CWM 5.0.2.7 and 6.0.1.4

I cannot speak for other CWM builds but when trying to flash Jedi Knight 3 with my T989 I notice many issues. Phone sticks when trying to restart...constantly missing NFC/Android Beam...and then once getting everything re-installed it hangs at one of the loading screens when trying to restart the phone...so as a recommendation like the uploader of this ROM states, use TWRP recovery.
In case you are unsure of how to get TWRP, download GooManager from the market, when you are in the app, hit the menu key, then click Install OpenRecoveryScript, tap Yes, and then ensure that the file name contains your specific model number. If it does, go ahead with the download and it will automatically install, once done, choose the option to Reboot Recovery. There you have it, you should now be able to access TWRP recovery mode.
Anyone else have any suggestions when it comes to this ROM build? I personally enjoy its look and feel and a lot of the features, especially the Yoda ringtone (which I am sure can be obtained elsewhere, but who does not love to be lazy?!? lol)
I made a thread earlier explaining why TW roms malfunction with CWM.

HA! I actually used that post quite a bit before switching to TWRP. I was referencing that post and the Jedi Knight 3 post to do everything, but after countless failed attempts with CWM I got the phone re-flashed and booted and then went the easy route of getting TWRP on my phone.
It was kind of sad that CWM had so many issues, especially when I would hang in the restart process from the Android environment and then during the boot process it would get stuck on the loading screen. Became very annoying, but now that I have TWRP, so far everything seems to be working properly, except for NFC/Android Beam, but I did find an enabler on here so I guess I am gonna give that a try and see if that works.

So far yes, slowly re-installing all my apps because before I would re-install all my apps and then try to restart the phone and it would hang at the loading screen. Got about 5-10 of my 50+ apps restored, and so far so good!

You shouldn't have a reboot hang with twrp even if you used the super wipe script. Like I said in my other post for some reason the super wipe script breaks the roms ability to reboot with CWM. That's why TDJ made the cache wipe script so it would fix reboot issues because CWM 5.0.2.7 has a few issues. You should be gold bud!

Everything was fine and dandy, was able to reinstall apps, and then I restarted the phone, now it is giving me a SIM Error.
EDIT: Scratch that, shut the phone off, left it off for a minute, and turned it back on, now the SIM registers, although Wi-Fi Calling is telling me SIM in invalid for for Wi-Fi calling. It is funny the hoops I've had to jump through for this...Wi-Fi calling fixed... love this stuff!!! Now if I can just figure out how to get the NFC/Android Beam to work---NFC/Android Beam have re-appeared...

[Q] where can I get a stable JB 4.1 for CWM T989!

I have been looking all over and my eyes are about ready to have a critical meltdown.
I have a T-Mo T-989 (Hercules) and have been looking for a JB ROM all night and found some shady threads or ROMs that don't work. I dunno, maybe I've installed something wrong, little help here?
Generally the ones that will install get hung up during the initial boot, wtf? Have run across some that wouldn't even install and would abort.
I should say I am using CWM 5.0.2.6... I think, its been so long since I have done anything to this phone so I forget but I know its ither Odin or CWM (or are they both one in the same? x.x ) I've been using Darkside Evolution ICS ROM all this time and would be nice to move up to JB if there is a stable one out there
Have you tried vincom's cm build? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886009 its very stable. Been using it for 9 days now without a single SOD or RR. To get the best results I recommend using TWRP. Just head over to the play store and download GooManager. Open, grant superuser, hit menu, then click on "install open recovery script". Go through the prompts and it will download and install TWRP. The method I use for flashing was: Darkside superwipe, ROM, gapps. (I did not use the super light gapps because the home button doesn't work when I do and it doesn't auto restore my apps)

Hmm, well I got goo manager and its now stuck on the TWRP's boot screen and just reboots after so long of sitting there :/ and its already deleted the rom, so I guess I have to go through the CWM rooting proceeders again?
Well I have managed to get CWM5 back on it and got a working ROM for now but it seems when I do the method you imply it flukes and freezes at the TWRP boot screen. I followed ye the best way possible, maybe there is an alternative way?
I have tried installed Vincom's JB all versions and it comes back as error then aborts install or it installs but sits at initial boot for more than 25min and does nothing I've found that while the warning say give it 10min to boot is generally just a 'just in case' scenario since the T989's processors are considerably powerful.
I have tried to get the ROM onto the phone's internal memory and install from there like Vincom said but the computer won't read the phone for some reason >.<
i would say, to use twrp and download the latest cm10 Here.
i recommend twrp for stable flashing cause there's bugs in latest cwm...

Not entirely true. Contrary to what everyone has been saying, and im not trolling just saying from personal experience - cwr 5.0.2.7 and dark side wipes have yet to give me problems I was on the majority if not all jb roms with no issues other than rr/sod which was before the kernel fix.
I'm a noob and expect that 90% of the people here kno more than I do but I wish someone could explain to me why the scripts and cwr 5027 are suddenly so bad.

CWR 5027 isn't bad at all it's just that using darkside scripts with certain new recoveries has caused some people boot loops and also with the newer recoveries they aren't required since the built in wipe options work just fine.Personally I use the recovery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844637
and have had zero issues with it plus it has the darkside scripts built in

I would recommend trying either AOKP OFFICIAL Build 5 (not sure if by time you read this if theres a newer one) or a CM10 Nightly. I've tried tons of different JB roms from 4.1 to 4.1.2 and those work good. Decent battery life without changing too many settings (I'm afraid to change too many things because I've hard bricked my phone before but barely got it replaced under the 20 day full exchange warranty). No random reboots or force closes for me so far. Highly recommend trying them out, very simple to flash.
Been on the official aokp and its amazingly stable better then anything jb rom I tried on the s2 battery is excellent too

Actually... I have CMW6 now the touch one. Does that have something to do with it? The main issue I have with SBean and CM9's JB is eveyrone complains that they can't hear me, that I sound like a robot and the call is badly broken up or that I'm not speaking up like my mic isn't picking up on my voice very well.
Is this a ROM error or a kernel error? rather annoying frankly @[email protected]

Ooooo, wait a tic... I feel like such n00b now...
I kept downloading V1 thinking it was the newest one xD I think the V6 at the way bottom is the newest one. I'll try that for a few days then report back.
Edit: QUESTION - my screen is flickering (just installed SBEAN V6)... is that a bad install or did I have to fix permissions?
That pretty common in most JB rom but it usually goes away after few mins for me. You can go to settings and then developer options then disable hw overlay but you would need to do it on every boot because it won't stick after a reboot.
Btw you should check out official aokp-milestone-1 it not on here but Google aokp and download the one for our phone. Its pretty sick and stable.

BSOD, halo burn-in, graphic glitches: V20C

I've been running HoNo's cwm flashable V20C off and on since its release, more so than any other Rom, and experienced few issues if any. I couple weeks ago I decided to test some different roms (pa, cna, mui, a few cm10 nightly) but eventually ended up back at v20c after fresh wipe and clean install, due to some of the bugs in the other roms ( don't get met wrong devs, stellar job on some solid roms, just waiting for more stable releases). Now after flashing all these and coming back to v20c the phone ran great for a week, but has now started having graphical glitches in Facebook and other apps, eating battery, and just generally behaving like one of the older cm10 nightlys I had previously flashed. Then earlier today I got a black screen of death that I had to pull the battery for, and resulted in the halo-like screen burn in for about ten minutes after the phone rebooted. I have no idea why or how the cm10 bugs have carried over to my v20c flash since I wipe everything twice between flashes. Does anyone have any ideas or have experienced similar issues?

[Q] Why does a battery pull kill my stock rooted 4.1.2 SGH-T989 UVMC6 ???? [SOLVED]

If you are running stock rooted 4.1.2 UVMC6 on a SGH-t989, pull out your battery while the phone is on. Now, can you get past the 4G screen? If you can, is everything now FC on you?
This is frustrating. It seems all runs SO PERFECTLY. Until I pull my battery on the stock rooted 4.1.2. Then my phone will not boot or will not boot properly.
Anyone else have this?

I'll try this next time. I'm tired of restoring my phone just to have it randomly die. A few days later.
This time I restored with the stock rooted deodexed rom and not ODIN. Maybe it'll keep working...

Why are do doing a battery pull? You can't power off normally? If the phone is freezing just hold the power button in for about ten seconds, and it will do a reboot no matter what it's frozen on. Then when it reboots you can do a normal reboot or power off.
