Hello all I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which kernel helps save the most battery. I am a high school student and by the time I get out at 2:15 my batter is at like 30 or 40 percent (even know I don't get that good of service and shouldn't be using my phone In school anyway lol) but im using the infamous 3.9.2 rom... Any suggestions would be great!

Well to be honest no kernel is gong to be the "best" is more like you need to be conscious what you have on. You have to give more info like what percentage you have brightness on, how often you have data on or gps. Also syncing takes battery away so having those on will take big chunks. Really battery shouldn't be that bad because technically I would guess your not using it as much in school.

I normally have the brightness the lowest it can go. I never have gps on.. I use juice defender to turn off my data when I'm in rooms that get no 4G and im assuming synching is off when my data is off to.

What's your typical usage - the screen on time ?
If it's average use and nothing is wrong, you might want to consider buying either an extra battery or an external battery to charge with. Or an extended battery. Battery battery battery.

use one of the several methods to find out what is using the battery...i use betterbatterystats then i find out whats waking my cpu and go from there...
after that i use titanium to freeze the problem...I do this for several phones and normally can get way better battery life from them
Just make sure you don't freeze something important that's going to cause problems. If it's a app you can always uninstall..I'd your screen time is about 4 to to 6 hours expect like 9 to 10 hours max of battery life. Extended battery will make the phone look bulkier and having a case is a issue. If anything get an external battery possibly with charger too.

Try Lean Kernel its the best for battery life.

My phone has TERRIBLE battery life. It lasts about 2 hours usually and sometimes 2 and a half. I'm running the stock GB from that came with the phone, but I am rooted. I have tried every single from out there..none of them give me sufficient battery life. By the time i get home from school by battery is down to 30%. What could be causing this? I'm also on my third warranty replacement phone and my second battery.

Normally I would suggest going to stock for people but in your case, maybe custom is the answer.
Do you have loads of apps and accounts setup by the way?

This really has no useful information to be helped. 2 hours? On stand by, screen on time, any cpu tuners, etc?
Maybe take screenshots of what the battery chart looks like and what apps have the highest percentage.
It is about 2 and a half hours of screen on time. And I can't get a screenshot of it because I just flashed a new rom, and my battery hasn't had a chance to settle in with the new rom yet. If it doesn't improve I will post a pic of my battery stats. Thanks.

Well, I'm guessing there is an app that keeps running constantly. You should try an ICS ROM, that might help.

Same problem
I've been experiencing identical issues with my T989. I've had terrible battery life without many apps running in the background (as I use the stock task manager to execute all running apps). I've finally decided to root my device and install a 'set cpu speed' app. Even though I've set my minimum cpu speed to 200 MHz and max to 800 MHz it's still lasts for a maximum of 4 hours until I get the "Battery is critically low" message.
Does samsung provide warranty for their batteries? Because I've called to complain about battery life and they asked me to remove the battery and send the device itself so they could repair it. And under no circumstances would they offer me an exchange for the battery, maybe I just caught a bad rep?
I love this phone and all it's features and prefer this over the iPhone but I feel like i'm being forced to just purchase the iPhone 4s.

How do I get this phone to hold a charge for a day? Right now I get about 6 hours of battery life if I am lucky on decent use.
It is rooted on a black ice rom, running that Franco kernel. Is there something that I am not doing? Do I have to overclock it or?
I seriously almost traded it it for an iPhone just because of the battery issue. Like, it drives me insane and it takes away my freedom lol
Any help would be great

if you're only getting 6 hours, then you're a heavy user. Not much you can do about that, except use your phone less or charge it more.
Run stock for a while...

I'm on sprint and out of the box it was bad bad battery life. I'm sticking with it though hoping someone comes up with a way to get better life out of it.
Use an app like CPUSpy to see if your CPU is ever going into Deep Sleep mode, and an app like BetterBatteryStats to figure out why not. You can also look at Settings > Battery to see what's using up your battery. Tapping the graph at the top may give you more details.
I really am not a heavy user.
So switch it back to stock?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Usage varies man .. i have decent battery life so far with Franco 185 linaro with AOKP linaro rom. I keep the governor set to conservative . And I do overclock as much as I can ...might even be better if I didn't do that . But I get around 10- 14 hours on that setup . I text a good bit and twitter occasionally but spend most of my time on flud news reader. If you stream music all day or Netflix or something then you aren't going to get great battery life .
Make sure your screen brightness isn't high when you don't need it to be ..since the screen is generally what uses the most battery .
My best battery was with lean kernel and slim rom 4 ...but since I went to this new linaro I will forfeit a little battery for fluidity.
The key is just to experiment. There are lots of combos out there and they all work differently for us. There isn't exactly a one stop solution . Just tinker and you will find the light
Ps: I have the 2200 extended battery from Verizon . It is a necessity if you wanna get normal usage. They are listed at forty bucks or something through Verizon ...but if you go to the store they sell them for 20.

Best solution would be to get an extended battery to last you the whole day or an extra cheap one to swap with at the middle of the day

Yes, do this before blaming the phone. Also pay attention to the apps you install and see if any of them are causing the problem. Stock roms are usually less buggy than custom roms.
You would also get more help with your Question in the actual Q&A section.

I get phenomenal battery life out of my S3 (stock).
I had an Epic 4G and was afraid to leave my desk because of the battery drain. With moderate usage (30-60 mins talk time, texting, chat, some web, exchange, ect) I can easily get 16-20 hours. Signal quality in your area will impact it more than anything. Also, wifi is vastly easier on the battery.
PS Facebook app SUCKS. Just bookmark the webpage and use that. Works better and doesn't ruin your phone.
Here how it looks like ! Lovin this screen on time..

Post a screen shot and I'll tell ya what could be happening.
You can improve battery life by switching to custom roms with less bloatware, and updating to more efficient kernels. (This is on a Rom/Kernel level)
Software wise, just figure out what apps are causing wake times and try not to use them. Basically whenever an app/widget refreshes/updates content, it may cause phone to wake (like weather/clock widgets for example).
I have been using cpusleep and it seems to have helped my battery life ... also using a custom rom without the bloatware is key for me.
my current setup is freegs3 release 6 with the latest trinity kernel...even though its overclocked my battery has been amazing and phone has worked flawless.
Im also using system tuner which has given me the ability to manage the cpu with on demand and other customizable settings
The only thing I synch is my k9 mail account
I also have frozen several samsung apps which helped...
Im now getting over 20 hours of basic use between charges...I dont use games/videos so might be a little skewed . I use this phone for business calls/internet/messaging/photos/navi...pretty basic

I have been using Gigajoule lately by feckmu and it has given me the best battery life out of all the custom roms I have tried. Even with GPS, WIFI, and screen at full brightness I can make it through the entire day with 30-40% battery left. If your looking for a rom-based solution to your battery life, check it out!

For SGS3, out of the box, the battery life is ok, not something to write home about. Yet, if you get rid of the bloatware, freeze some applications you don't intend to use on daily basis you can end up with more than 24 hours of battery life for sure.
Check the attachment and let me know how's yours looking like. I'm curious.
Not to mention use a custom kernel, low screen brightness, turn off auto sync and try to get inverted apps.

Can you please define "pretty good battery"? That's a bit fuzzy. Do you have a picture to prove that?
From you what you see in the attachment of my initial post, I do have close to 8 hours on battery and the current level is (was) at 65%. Indeed there was some charging during the day but I don't count that because I was using the GPS location. This being a battery intensive operation, I didn't count it in.
For me its good enough but me thinks I may delete my wp8 launcher. Everyone has their own standard of what's good and bad battery life. For me I am happy of I can make our most of the day on a single charge which I can. Buy a bigger battery or a spare. Check if any applications are causing drain. Check your settings like GPS, Bluetooth, auto sync etc.

I'm sick and tired of all of my iPhone friends having their batteries going strong after heavy usage and I'm struggling to keep up.
I know, I know, it must be an app or some process, but the battery indicator in the settings shows nothing irregular and I have no idea how to interpret Better Battery Stats.
Hell, I'm even on a Mophie Battery Case to get me through the day, but it makes the phone hotter, heavier, thicker, and slippier.
I've tried so many ROMs and kernels and nothing has been able to get me from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM with moderate usage (mainly sometimes using Internet browsing apps such as Reddit or Dolphin, and playing some on device music).
I need your input. I love this phone but the battery is really giving me buyer's remorse regarding my contract that ends December 2014.
I'm currently rooted on 4.3 SlimBean and its stock kernel.
I need suggestions, any and all!
Most importantly, I would like your absolute best combination of ROM and/or kernel in terms of battery life. Thanks in advance.

Dunno if it will help u but there's this app on Google play called setcpu for root users. Basically it let's u control your CPU power. you can over clock or under clock your phone with it. So if u wanna save battery life through the day. U can limit the amount of power or phone uses. Hope it helps. If not then u might need to buy a new battery. Good luck.
