Howdy,
I have a marvelous, marvelous AT&T Note II. Happy with things as is, the reason I would want to root is to get rid of bloatware. I just wanted to hear from those who decided to root but for little things NOT to run a custom rom or anything.
For those that did root and nothing else -- did you notice a change in performance?
Please be gentle
I did for that same reason. But I run the att special edition clean rom.

What is the advantage of this rom? Do you get more toggle options than stock?
I rooted to remove bloat and use google wallet. It also allows me to use root explorer and TiBu. Other than that im stock and like it that way. I may switch ROMs down the road but im happy for now.

I'm not 100%. But it removes all of the bloatware and I think you can download an add on that as like 23 toggles.

I only rooted so I can easily tether occasionally (2-3 times a month).
My opinion is that you don't need root to debloat. U can disable the majority of unneeded apps via app mgr. works great.
I rooted for all of the above reasons plus because it's my device and I wanted it my way. There's no reason I can think of not to.

What bloat ware do you recommend to remove from stock?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I rooted my phone for customization, speed performance, and occasional tethering. I went back to stock today because I was having data issues so I want to see if I still have data issues with stock.
Rooting is the way to go by far.

I rooted only because of Six Axis Controller Bluetooth connectivity... Then muli-Window before the official release... Then root explorer for customizations... Then a bunch of other things lol root = domino effect
Using the Stock CleanROM ATT SE 1.0 to actually remove bloatware (not just to disable them), to make any app available to multi-window, tethering and you can add other little things like 23 toggle mods, theme different parts of the UI, call record, expandable pop-up browser...basically the ability to cuztomize whatever you want while keeping the base ROM stock.
I rooted so that i can restore my apps from my Galaxy s1 using Titanium Backup.
Other than that I'm on stock as well (using nova launcher).

Did you figure out if root was the cause of the data problems?
I rooted mine so that I could get multi Window on my Canadian note 2. Rogers is slow to update. No performance issues during the few days that it was rooted and didn't have a custom rom

Does anybody use the stock disable feature anymore...
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium
initially i rooted strictly to get rid of the bloatware, and enable tethering, but then once i saw the roms with multi window support for any app (running jedi xp8 at the moment) i jumped ship and installed a custom recovery, and then the rom. also part of it had to do with not getting the 4.1.2 update. my bros note 2 got the 4.1.2 update notification for multiwindow as soon as he set it up, i didn't, and going to the software update thing showed nothing... so i decided to just go with a rom.
may end up switching to an aosp rom once 4.2 becomes stable enough.

On my Sprint Galaxy Nexus when I first got it the stock wifi tethering setting worked on my stock ICS. Later on I found that it just doesn't work anymore. It will activate and appear to be working and let my laptop connect but the 3G will go away like they have some kind of built in checker.
I did some research and found out that they might have a checking system set up. Well I found out you can still use apps like Foxfi which is great but I was just wondering if there was a stock work around.
They even blocked Foxfi from the market place but you can go to there main site and download it from there.
I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and what kind of solutions do they use.
Right now I am using Foxfi which works perfect but I read that you can use a widget like switch pro and create a toggle to switch the portable wifi hot spot without it going through the check.
I do not want to use USB only prefer hot spot.
So please let me know all of your guys types of solutions.

Well obviously the wifi tether built in is something your supposed to pay for. For stock no, there are no mods.

I thought it was just weird because it worked at first but now it doesn't the stock version. Maybe because my phone was just still getting set up. Foxfi works for me great because I like to have hot spot but I hear PDA Net still works as well for USB Tethering.

Does your Sprint tether work or do you have to use FoxFi?

Just root it and tether it up

It probably worked because they hadn't yet blocked it for you. Then you tried to use it and they did block it.

Have you tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658288
I unlocked the bootloader, booted to TWRP Recovery without flashing it and flashed the tether zip. Keeps your phone stock and unlocks the built in tether. You don't even have to root.
What program do you use to unlock the boot loader or flash the roms?

How in the world did you boot into TWRP without flashing it? That might not be rooted but seems like you have to flash a rom.

Do what everyone else does....
Root it (you really need to to install any decent app).
Install wireless tether from http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Always install the newest one posted (yes it's beta, but it's rock solid stable).
Which program do you use to flash things? Qdl tool or is that old school? I know there is a power house program for the Nexus but I forgot what it is its on my home computer am I out of town.
So you are saying you have to at least flash the recovery but not the from so its still a little more than FoxFi.
What's a quick step by step process because its been a while since I have flashed things. I use to flash my dell streak all the time until I got my Nexus which I love.
Why did you decide to flash? Is not FoxFi good enough and simple enough?

You just have to be rooted and then install wireless tether.
It will prompt you to allow super user access on first start, allow it and tick the "always allow this action" box.
It's bomb proof....been using it for years on numerous different phones....and numerous different carriers (sprint included).
clockworkmod tether is another no root required tether app.

So the title says it all!
This is aimed at us GS3 owners who are fortunate enough to be running Jelly Bean thanks to Freeza...Well one of the down sides of the LJ7 JB update is that WiFi Tether no longer works for us! What a shame!!
Well I may just have a solution that will make you and your phone very very happy.
Follow the steps below:
1) Download WiFi Tether app from Play Store
2) Open app, and hit Menu, then tap Settings
3) There should be an option in Settings to configure your device with the app, in that option change Galaxy SIII to Galaxy Nexus! This worked for me and I am now enjoying the pro's of LJ7 JB while tethering like a boss! haha
If this worked, please hit that thanks button, it helps me greatly

So this whole wifi tether issue. It seems fixable at some point and time. I had the hotspot working for like 2 days but never paid anything extra for it. It no longer works so I guess sprint is paying attention to something. LOL. I love the Jellybean though.

Does anybody know if it's possible to do USB tethering on Jelly Bean?
USB tethering works fine for me, using the 'easytether lite' app. Let's hope the wifi team solves the JB issue soon.

Even as an employee with tmobile, I am 'forced' to pay 14.99 per month for hotspot access on my galaxy note 2 (even though I rooted the device)
On the other hand, when I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S 2, I was able to bypass having to pay the monthly fee
I have found a couple of solutions in the forum on bypassing this feature, but have had no success
Does anyone have another solution or link I can try to bypass having to pay this charge every month
Cheers

2) I have backed up my device with NANDROID as described, but, can i just flash Jedi using my app Rom Toolbox?

I'm pretty new to this so someone more knowledgable might contradict my answer later. If so, go with what they say.
1 I believe the preferred method when going from one custom rom to another is to wipe the old one out by clearing all with whatever custom recovery tool you use. I believe doing so does not unroot your phoe so you cna then install the next rom without having to root again. Rooting is a one time thing.
2 I have no idea about this one.
You used to be able to do it through titanium back up with a stock rom when i had my Galaxy S2. I'm trying to keep things stock and not flash any custom roms. Hopefully someone finds a way
Okay so I put a custom rom in.. Pacman jb 4.2.2 and added the cerux kernel with it... Reboot the phone and use the default, built-in tether (Settings -> More -> Tethering & portable hotspot). You might want to give it a few seconds/1 minute for devices to properly connect. The app WiFi Tether for Root Users does not play well with 4.2.2.

I'm assuming that once the stock wifi tether is engaged, you switch to the WIFI Tether for Root users. I mean, what would be the point of using it if Tmo is gonna charge us for it. And when I start the stock tether, tmo takes over my browser and tells me I need to upgrade my plan to one that has wifi tethering. So i'm not following you. There is a way to spoof the browsers to use android browser, but by doing so, i'm unable to watch netflix. Let me know exactly what you are meaning. I'm having the same problem on Avatar 4.2.2

just so everyone knows, I'm not a total noob at this. I've had a Samsung nexus S 4g forever, had it rooted for almost 2 years. great phone, moved up to the optimus for its hardware capabilities, but have had some issues with configurations on certain apps. great phone so far, the lg firmware makes it a little difficult to play around with. I've tried wiping davlik, pulling data from my other rom and everything. I went from a 4.1.2 rom to a 4.3.1 rom. i'm wondering if the 4.3 doesn't support the wifi tether? I use the crap out of it and haven't ever been billed for it. its awful handy, and sucks not to have it. tried the trevE mod version too, with the exact settings off my other rom it always starts with errors. if I turn it to NetD it works properly but doesn't show up when I scan to find it. not sure whats going on here?
