I found the silent camera for FI11 in the Potatoman thread but it doesn't seem to be working properly. Every time I open it, screen goes black, and I have to pull battery and restart my phone.
I already deleted the camera sounds, but as you know the focus sound is part of the actual apk.
Anyone know where I might be able to get another stock camera without sounds?

I might give your ROM a try. I've used various CM mods in the past and they're mostly stable but sometimes GPS messes up or volume doesn't go all the way up... I just had my phone replaced so I wasn't looking to flash it but I'm starting to get that itch again. Thanks for the info. I'll probably do it tonight.
You can modify a config file in /system/ to enable the mute feature inside the app. I forgot specifics, I'm sorry, but I think you might find it with a search. Hopefully someone will see this and post the details

agat was able to shut off the shutter but not the focus. calk was able to shut the whole thing up but only in deodexed ROM.
are there any devs able to completely shut the camera off on Stock ICS odex? i love sfhubs Stock ICS ROMs but need the camera to be completely silent for those times in the in the library and have to take pictures of notes.
intuitively i would just delete the sounds by going into the system/apps but apparently deleting the sounds renders the camera to FC.

Same here, renamed all the camera audio files to .bak..
However can't seem to get rid of the focus beep (or even find the sound) for that matter.
Hope someone can figure this out.
AOKP milestone 6 has a camera sound shutoff option in its ROM control. Its bare bones ICS with huge potential for mods.

A modified APK is required to eliminate the focus sound. I haven't come across one yet but if anyone does, please let me know. Would love to get rid of the sound also as I like to take photos of the chalkboard during lectures and the focus sound is very distracting.

You must replace a few .ogg files in /system/media/audio/ui/ and replace the Camera.apk/.odex in /system/app/. Need root privileges beforehand, flash sfhub's rooted FF18 ROM with ODIN (here). You can find a silent stock FF18 application here, the audio files are below the download link to the application.

If you are on an Odexed version you will have to delete the camer.apk AND the camera.odex files. Then replace with the other camera.apk. Also make sure you reboot and clear the cache too.
Ok so Ive flashed a few roms here and there. Including some of the Cm9 and aokp roms and also some darkside. I found a issue that kept reappearing in every flash, the LED lights at the bottom would not always work properly. They do not light up when you turn the phone on and only light up once unlocked or after 5-6 seconds.. are there any fixes? Ive trying wiping several ways and i always flash according to the OP.
Im now on xtremeperia and I gotta say its the most gorgeous ROM ever. But it still has that problem that will not go away! Ive Pm'd the Dev but they dont have a fix, wondering if anyone else does..
Also heres a question to the Developers. First and foremost I am amazed by the work you guys do! Its great!! Im wondering if one of you guys can design a new camera App, something with a sexier layout! The one found in AOkp and CM9 are just way too boring and makes the phone look cheap as well as the rest of the rom! The stock ones in GB are also a bit boring, wondering if someone can design one that looks like that of what we see on other phones/ as in a better layout. Also a shutter sound that sounds like a real shutter! not the silly nexus ones! lol Not trying to say or offend anyone but im sure lots of folks agree with me on this...
please dont tell me to download a camera app, it feels nice to have a awesome built in camera that is fully functional.
thanks!
First part - AOKP's LED's work perfect for me. Not sure why they at the very least, dont work with CM9.
Second part - Honestly, I doubt any redesigning will take place any time soon... However, you can download other stock apps? Try MIUI's it's nice, and has lots of features. However, it doesn't do video... Stock app for that? - Click here for the camera.

umm.. Isn't a built in camera app an app? Simply put you have to actually install one you download, which takes how long? If you are looking for one that installs with a rom, you could always bake up a rom in the kitchen that installs your 3rd party one of your choice..

Thanks so much for your help. I agree the AOKP july 15 self kang was successful in LED fix.
That miui camera really is nice thanks for the link you are the bomb!

thanks
I'm running CM10 nightlies for a while now my camera has been failing. Everytime I try to take a picture, after a couple of seconds, it just freezes. Has anyone had this and tried fixing it?
So turns out that Smart Stay is causing the problem because it is trying to access the camera the same time I am trying to use it. So to fix it I just added any app that uses the camera to the exception list option in smart stay. Finally an end to this annoying problem. (or is it? ...I really hope it is.)
I had the same problem until I switched to jelly bean jellybomb rom instead. Try it, u will love it

I'll definitely give it a try, but what about if I still want to use cm10? Has anyone had any progress fixing this problem or at least finding the source of it?
In the changelog for cm10 it says the next nightly will introduce a "Fix Ignore Keyevents", maybe, just maybe, that will help!
Many people do not have this problem. Are you sure its not something you installed?

I have odined back to stock, and wiped&&formatted everything possible. I did come across a thread (the link I have since lost) that mentioned something about possibly gapps causing the problem. Just know I had the idea that maybe because I am using JustinBean's inverted gapps there is a problem. I will investigate and see if that helps.
I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. So even after the update, no change.. still freezing - GREAT! So then I started getting really aggrivated and started to uninstall apps that "Pimp My Rom" included, and I thought flash might be the culprit. And then it hit me, this is a camera problem right? Well then what app uses the camera? SMART STAY of course, and it made even more sense because it takes a sample at a certain interval and that explains that I am able to use the camera only for the short amount of time (always the same amount of time). So to fix the problem I just set in the exception list in smart stay an exception for any app that uses the camera. I really hope this is the fix I need. Thanks for your input guys!!
Hi,
I've created a flashable zip based on the files extracted by dmmarck (it's all his doing! I'm just packaging it). Just flash from CWM or TWRP.
Everything should work: regular pics, photosphere, gallery and editor. On my device, it all coexists nicely with my existing camera and gallery.
Edit: just noticed that garner had updated his own thread with more things working. It seems his archive contains fewer files, which is great if you want to save space. If it's not working for you, though, try this version.
Thanks cyansmoker!
For me garner's zip didnt work. Yours did!
Trying this out now! Thanks!

Anyone having heat issues with the new cam?
I've heard claims that, yes, it can run your phone pretty hot.
Not sure what it's doing.

Is there any way to get JB 4.1.2 camera for an second camera without another gallery app? ICS camera ("+" version from play store) does not have good features what JB 4.1.2 camera has! :/
Does HDR work

Thanks a lot, I was trying to download the zip from another thread but it just keep disconnecting and restarting. this is working perfectly.
Currently using dark paranoid 2.25.1 tablet mode and this camera app working much better and faster than the stock 4.1.2 camera. Loved that photosphere shots.

the ONLY problem I am having with the photosphere is that it seems to snap pictures when the blue dot isnt directly center of the target. Its close to but not directly center which leads to most of my pictures being "off" from one another.. I wonder if theres a way to slow down the speed or pause it for a second so the blue dot lines up correctly

In my case, I found out that actually slowing down while panning with my phone made things better. I guess my phone was having a hard time figuring out what I was aiming it at.
i've tried to slow it down also (this isnt the panorama selection but the photosphere), but once the blue dot to line up the next shot gets close to the target recticle center where it should be(might be a better word), it snaps the next picture before even getting in the center if that makes sense
I get force close when opening both camera and gallery app. Hmm.. not sure what's wrong though.
I have a cwm backup, but is there other way to restore old camera back? maybe someone has the original apk for camera and gallery?
if not I'll just do a full restore.

I believe that as long as you delete /system/app/GalleryGoogle.apk and reboot your phone, you should have access to your old camera.
Of course it is different from ROM to ROM...

rename the gallery2.apk to gallery.bak, then try to install. I dont see a gallery4 on mine (current Bamf), just a GALAXY4, which is a lwp and googlegallery is what the new one is (I think).
Will it work in Galaxy s3?

Does anyone know if there is a working app mod or hack to enable the incredible2 to have nexus-like on-screen buttons and disabling the lights and functions of the hardware buttons like on ParanoidAndroid has it?

This is the main reason I stick with PA. If someone can mod the framework of the rom you are using, it may be option, but most of the roms don't have that built in. You might mention it in the thread of the rom you use and see if someone can hook you up.
Yeah, I'm wondering if maybe you can copy and paste the frameworks folder from PA rom to the other rom and if that would activate the on screen buttons.
I doubt that would be a good idea, but I'm not the one to answer that one.

@Phantom: according to this thread it's just a matter of decompiling framework-res.apk, making some changes and then recompiling the whole thing, which is why I'm thinking maybe it is as simple as copying/pasting the apk.
@Tricsuit: Yeah, I know. I already learned my lesson and before attempting stupid ideas like this one, I run a full back up of the rim, settings, apparently and data, and then make sure to save the back up file in my box to be able to retrieve it from my computer just in case something else hiccups.

Thanks for the share m8, I will try to look into this one more over the weekend. If you decide to give it a go with a copy and past let me know how it works out.
Yeah, I'm on call for the next couple of days so I won't be able to play with the rom, but if I'm able to make it work I'll post it here.
Welp, I began to toiler around with this, succeed in decompiling res-framework.apk, changing the bools, arrays and dimens values and added the menu images, basically all the way down to step 5, but I can't seem to recompile it back into .apk... uhm... a little help guys? ^^;
