I had the same problem,I flashed stock recovery, but it was the wrong.I don't relock.I flashed backup of my stock Rom,then boot .img then stock recovery.I got the update but it don't install, same as you.I refashed stock recovery and then it worked, hope it helps
Sent from my EndeavorU using xda app-developers app

The OTA update can only be applied to a complete stock rom (either from a nandroid backup of your original stock rom or via ruu). You also need to have a stock recovery (not CWM) or else the update won't flash. The reason is that the OTA contains patches to certain files and if those files are not present the install will fail. The bootloader doesn't need to be locked for the OTA to install though but if your rom and recovery aren't stock it will not work.

thanks for trying people.. but most of you here are giving me answers that i already know, or you want me to try stuff....
i am sooper scared tht i might brick my phone and so i dont wanna experiment...
is there a solution that somebody is sure of.
also for my softwre no - 2.17.61.3, i dont see a RUU in the list.
lets also assume that i do not have a nandroid backup......
i am sure some expert would have an answer here... help plzzzz

Without RUU or backup, your only option is to go to the backups thread and look there.
You can't brick your phone without S-Off. Although you'd do well to keep charge in it.

Finally it is done.... all thnks to the expert ClydeB1!!!!
so basically i used a nandroid backup, flashed stock recovery 2.17, updated.. i m JB now

[SOLVED]update OTA without relocking the bootloader

dear XDA members ,,, as i got a lot of solutions in this form and i see the OTA updates are making problems for many users ,,, here is the solution for people who unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM recovery ......
ON STOCK ROM ...
1- you dont need to relock the bootloader ..
2- download voodoo rootkeeper .. (from market) and run the program and click protect root.
3- you will need your original recovery that you changed to CWM ..
example: if you had 1.28.415.9 and you installed CWM then you need recovery.img for 1.28.415.9 .
install the stock recovery from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24738635#post24738635
4-install recovery.img from fastboot ..
5-boot into phone and OTA update the one x to 1.29.xxx .
6-after update is done just open rootkeeper and click restore root ,,
7-DONE
a big thanks for xda members and im happy to help ...

Actually I never really had to relock the bootloader to apply an OTA... just flashing the stock recovery and keeping the unlocked bootloader + rooted custom ROM did the trick for me... Tho its not a really good idea to install an OTA patch on top of a custom ROM.
i added ( FOR STOCK ) what i know if you have custom rom you wont receive OTA ... will you ???!!!! ... my solution is about if you are still on Stock ...
if you search google youll see people talking about locking the bootloader and removing root and all kind of crap ...
...since the radio is part of the rom now and the only "advantage" of flashing a RUU is an hboot update.
So what is the "advantage" of an newer hboot? If someone finds an exploit on the 0.43 hboot which is fixed on newer hboots you gonna cry (-:
So my advice..stay on lowest hboot until we get S-OFF.
I also didn't have to relock my bootloader.
Just restored my default back up with cwm before root. Fastboot restore to original recovery (stock), update and done. Went back to fastboot and restored cwm, rooted the phone and done.

What i did was flashed stock recovery, downloaded and installed the update done, that's all i did and root was intact, that was like last month
I'm still haven't issues installing the OTA update.
I followed your instructions and I still get the red triangle error
EDIT:
just did some fishing, and it's because my stock rom is so heavily modified that the OTA won't update anything
hi, quick check, do i still need to flash back CWM or it will include back CWM?

the OTA will not include CWM, as CWM is not stock.

[Q] Quick unrooting for OTA question

Hi experts,
i know this is very simple for you.. please help....
i have an orange version of HOX, which i have rooted(only root, no cust roms).
now to get OTA, i know that i will have to lock the bootloader again.
but my question is... i have been reading a lot about RUU... so do i need to do anythng there??? or just lock the bootloader?
please give me specific link to download and follow...please...
BTW my speck -
HTC One X, it is the UK Orange version, and i live and use it in India.
android ver - 4.04
sense - 4.1
softwre no - 2.17.61.3
htc sdk api - 4.23

ENDEAVORU S-On RL

No you don't need to flash ruu
Only relock bootloader
Also if youve installed cmw or twrp so any other recovery ...you have to install stock recovery ...
And you have to temporarily unroot by using the app ota root keeper
1.flash stock recovery
2.backup root then delete it (nit the backup )
3.lock bootloader
4.install ota update
You dont need to lock the bootloader, just flash the stock recovery and unroot the rom. That's all

Or a quick search here on xda is enough ! Don't be lazy now !!!
not tht he is lazy.. i think we noobs are just scared tht we dun scre* up the phone...
i will try to find it and post a link here....
but just 1 question.... can i just install any stock recovery tht i find for HTC one X, or it need to be somethng specific to my model... for ex version, CID etc..
You need to flash the stock recovery from the right base. Like the 2.17 or 1.29 base.
And the lazy part was just a little hint that everything is really easy to find here on xda. There are enough guides to follow....check the stickies in the android dev section and you will see that everything has been covered there !
i really.. really did search for recovery img for ENDEAVORU, softwre no - 2.17.61.3, HBOOT - 1.12.0000
Radio - 2.1204.135.20
CID - ORANG001
i seriously dont seem to find it... i do find 2.17.XXX.xx though
please give me a link if someone has it.
also i will be using the ALL in One tool and i am hoping thts the best method.

You need the 2.17 recovery ..the rest of the numbers are not important.

i googled but didnt find an answer... is there a site or specific thread?

hey experts...
i am gonna unroot my HOX today....
so i have the 2.17 recovery...
which i can flash....
i have been reading a lot of tutorials whr thy finally flash RUU, but i dont need that as i already have stock.
i just need to unroot...
so what exactly do i do here?
1 - Flash Stock recovery
2 - Fastboot oem lock
Then what... what is the step that gets it unrooted??
is locking the boot loader enough???
i hope you understand what exactly i need here.....
i am doing all this just so that i get OTA!
Thanks in advance
BTW.. i also have SU installed.. do i need to uninstall it,
also as per MarcelHofs, i dont need to lock bootloader... so just flash stock recovery, and unroot...
so hows the unroot process exactly?
Flash recovery.img
Erase cache
Reboot remove supersu app(actually just to do this step before flashing the recovery)
Reboot and you are done.

[Q] need latest ruu for my one x [help] !!

Hey Guys,
I'm in a bit of a pickle! + I'm a newbie (with some background knowledge - i know how to flash, use cmd etc.)
I want to unroot my One X back to the original stock rom, how it was like when i got it out of the box!
Now i have currently CWM + Insertcoin
I installed a nandroid backup, but it failed, as in (No Wifi+No Mobile Network)
So thats why i went on to install a custom rom so my phone could work for now.
MY PHONE
S-ON
CID: OPTUS001
HBOOT: 1.36
Radio: 5.1204.162.29
Main Ver: 3.14.980.27
Now the issue.....
So as i said before, i want to go back to stock, so i can receive the OTA updates.
The real problem is that the latest RUU i can find for my One X is:
" RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_Optus_AU_1.29.980.11_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260560_signed "
So since my version is updated to JB 3.14 i need that RUU, so the real question is does any have
HTC ONE X OPTUS JB 3.14 RUU ??????
COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!
Also....
>I have also tried running the customRUU to install the ICS RUU but.... NO LUCK! I got an invalid Error [156]
Anybody know how to fix that?? if that is the only way?
>Nandroid - FAIL
I would just like to be back at original stock rom, with no root, no nandroid, anything!! PLEASE HELP :'(
Another panic button...
You have no wifi/mobile network because you have a kernel on device that does not match the modules included on your ROM.
Use this untouched nandroid to get back to stock, make sure your flash boot.img 3 times for my favor.

In case, recovery is the same across Official ROM despite vary CIDs.

O2 OTA 4.2.2 Hboot?

Hello guys already running 4.2.2 with Hboot 1.36 I see o2 have now released this update. Is the Hboot changed to 1.72?? and if so is they any change worth updating from 1.36 to 1.72??
thanks
Anyone?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes the hboot is changed to 1.72. I couldt install the OTA wia the recovery it gave me Red triangle during the process so I manually updated the hboot. I advise you not to do that if you want to make ypur phone full stock because after upgrading the hboot to 1.72, lower firmwares like 3.14.206.X > wouldt work, to be more precise the touch would`t work on them. So as for me I`m waiting for some one to make a backup of 4.18.206.X or to find the RUU.
Anyway I have the OTA but dont know how to upload it.
Hope this helped you a bit.

Btw root acces does not interfere with an ota update. You loose it after the update.

you don't to be locked to receive ota, you need stock rom, stock boot.img and stock recovery and also to be unrooted as you already know. so unlock bootloader again and flash the 3.14 stock recovery then make sure there are no su files left in your system/bin or system/xbin folders

No need RUU.I think your in stock rom, if so just flash this stock recovery via fastboot (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) then check update OTA & install it.

And you don't need to unroot either. It will be lost in process. Reroot after updates
