[Q] MMS Thread Message Count - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello all. I have a very non important and picky question. Is there a way to get rid of the message count in the MMS app near each of the contacts names? I know I can get 3rd party apps but just wondering if any editing would make this go away. Maybe editing the color even just to blend with the background?

New message icon does not go away

Hi folks. I've got my Evo rooted with the latest damagecontrol ROM.
Everything was working fine until yesterday but for some reason now every time I get a text message, I get a notification from the original Messaging application in the notification bar. It does not go away even after I've read and/or deleted all messages. For each text message I have to hit clear on the notification bar otherwise it does not go away. I've searched online but haven't find a resolution on this yet. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I figured it out. It was the stupid "Beautiful SMS" widget set to show bar notifications and integrate self to Handcent.

[Q] Developer request.....

I was a Inc 1 user and asked a few times for this but it was like no one understood what i was asking for. i was wondering if its possible or if a developer would take the challenge of altering the stock sms/mms apk so that a preview of the message doesnt show up in the notification bar. I know Go SMS and Handcent have the option of showing "new message recieved" instead of showing the text contents in a privacy setting but i would like to keep the stock messaging app. puhlease someone. it would be greatly appreciated....

not so sure what u mean, or if it's possible, why not try handcent or go sms? I know u want stock, but may be the only way,
If you go under Settings>Privacy, it gives you 1 or 2 options. I'm not so sure since I'm using newtoroot's Sense 3.5 ROM and that may or may not be different from what you're using. (yes, I'm advertising a Rom, and yes, you should totally go for this rom.)
Handcent SMS does this. You can disable the preview per contact or just in general. You would disable the notifications in your normal SMS app and then set it so that Handcent is the only app that does notifications for SMS and if you disable the preview feature, it will just say "XXX-XXX-XXXX text you" or something like that
I've used handcent and am currently go sms. Was just curious if there was a way to do it for the stock. Guess it cant be done.

GO SMS Issue

Anyone else's GO SMS not showing the sender's name for text messages, just the #? No issues until ICS.
To add to that ive got a gosms notification in my top bar to say ive got a new message. I can see the first few words of the message but when i click on it i cant see the text (i just get the text box to reply) and it doesnt exist in the stock sms app either.
I have this problem as well, also custom themes do not work at all. I've abandoned gosms for handcent for now at least. It's too bad the ICS theme for gosms looks so great too!
i have this aswell, i thought it was just me. Hopefully it will be updated soon.
Yeah - I had the same problem. I've switched to stock Messaging app and SMS Popup out of necessity, but now that I know Handcent works I might try that.
Newbie question, but what advantages do 3rd party SMS apps over the stock app.

Different themes, pop-up notifications with the ability to reply, just far more control in general.

Think iPhone vs. Android in terms of the amount of control one has.

The big feature is SMS pop up - it's super nice. SMS pop up doesn't remove the text from the notification bar, but it does mark it read, which is annoying. Handcent works alright.

the private folder is also extremely useful.

Also sometimes having unkown failure trying to send mail, after closing Go contacts...
An update may come soon...

yea... and themes dont work for me... period...
no themes, no pictures and names, no fun ...
GO SMS
Developer is working on update for GO SMS to be compatible with ICS - I have found Chomp to work the best in the mean time
GO SMS for ICS released this morning! Fixed...kind of.
Some of the messages have been linked to the contact, but not all. Can't see the pattern either. Again, only occurs within the app. Quick Reply is fine.
Edit: Just did a clear data. Will see what happens.
Edit: Just received a few SMS. Some are finding the name, some arent'. No pattern that I can see.

Notification bar tweaks?

One thing I dearly wish for is for my notification windowshade to show me individual emails and text messages. I don't receive massive amounts of email/sms, maybe 50 a day in total. But if I don't immediately check my email or sms before another one comes in then all the windowshade does is tell me I have 2 new sms or 3 new emails. YOU DON'T SAY!! I knew that as soon as I turned the screen on cos of the icons on the notification bar.
Is there a way to have the OS separate out all the messages individually, so I can read the first few lines (just the way I can if I just have one message)?
Ideally I would also like a way to delete (not just dismiss) emails directly from the windowshade, without having to go into the GMail app. And no, I don't want to use a widget.
Any suggestions?
I'm still running Gingerbread, btw. I gave up on testing ICS roms a couple weeks ago (will probably just wait until there's a fully functional CM9 ready).
I don't think this is possible without modifying the specific Google apps, and even then it is something Google specifically wants to avoid... see here, ICS Design http://developer.android.com/design/patterns/notifications.html
scroll down to "Stack your notifications"
If your app creates a notification while another of the same type is still pending, avoid creating an altogether new notification object. Instead, stack the notification.

Well that's a real bummer
So theoretically a dev could implement notifications that don't stack. I wonder if someone would be interested in modding the GMail app in this way?

Is it possible to do these things on the Galaxy Nexus?

I'm a new GNex owner, and having used other Android overlays such as HTC's Sense, I was wondering if it's possible (if there are any mods possibly?) to do:
- Link Facebook status updates with contacts
- Link Facebook pictures with contacts
If the two above are not possible:
- When setting a 256x256 picture that is good quality as a contact picture, is there a way to have it remain good quality? Every picture I assign contacts looks like crap and pixelated
Adding on:
- Is it possible to create folders in the app drawer?
- Is it possible to change the color of a new message in the text messaging application? When you get a new text it's white instead of light grey, and it's hardly noticeable which conversation is the new one.. is there a way to set the new conversation (in the message inbox overview) to say a light blue that matches the rest of the UI? Or even have a notification beside the message (where it displays all the messages) to let you know which one if the new message?
Thanks.

**I believe there is an app called hacksync or haxsync (not sure on the spelling) that lets you link up contact pics through facebook. having never used it I can't tell you if it is in the store or here on XDA. I would do a search and I'm sure you'll find it.

**Unfortunately this is a problem on Google's end. The servers they use to store contact information on have very low picture resolution. like 96x96 low. Solution: in the account settings, turn off sync google pics or use hacksync

**Neither one of these options are possible unless your rooted. even then I haven't seen a mod for adding folders to the app drawer. It could be out there but I doubt it. There are mods for changing the apperance of the stock msg app but you are limited to whatever the themer wants it to look. (I actually feel the same way about the calender ut so far I haven't seen a good replacement theme for it yet). however, if you want full control to customize your SMS the way you want, you can either download GO SMS or Handcent SMS from the store. Both offer full customization for all aspects of the application.
I hope this helps

HaxSync (and others) will link photos to contacts from FB.

Not to my knowledge. Definitely not in stock.

Alternate SMS apps can surely configure colors.
Thanks for the responses.
I downloaded HaxSync and it's awesome! The pictures are good quality and it shows recent activity from my contacts.
I'm going to try an alternative messaging application. If I have two messaging applications open though at the same time (does the stock messaging app run as a background process all the time?), will it slow my phone down?

It will run, and is required to fetch the messages. It won't slow anything down.
Go launcher EX allows you to make folders in the app drawer i believe.
I havent used it for a while but its a really good replacement launcher and has tons of features.
You might like that.

It'll be fine mate, just remember to turn off the notifications in the stock messaging app.

Not at all. Just disable notifications in the stock app and you're good to go with the replacement.
I'm on stock yakju 4.04 and yes, I'm able to create a folder and drag it to my app tray.

And how exactly do you do that?
