Hey everyone. My Mother-in-Law has the Sprint SGSII and.....she hates it! She needs the capabilities the phone offers for her business, but she is extremely frustrated with the UI of Android. She is currently running the most recent ICS update. I am curious to know, from experienced users of this phone, what the most user-friendly ROM is - considering the end user.

I recommend the Blu Kuban Rom, its pretty much drama free. Use Odin to install a rooted version of ICS, then install CWM Recovery. Once that is installed slap the Blu Kuban ROM onto your SD card. Boot into recovery and install the ROM.
You will want to read some FAQs and guides if you haven't done it before.
Probably miui

My vote goes for stock with Apex launcher, the feature to lock the desktop is amazing for newbie android users, grouping shortcuts, customize the bottom icons, slight theming, working good so far.
I've rooted my SGS3 & am running StrongSteve's Odexed Blue, but this is my first Android phone & rooting experience. I will definately read the stickies & FAQs before I do anything. Hopefully the Epic 4G Touch isn't too different from my SGS3.

Stock, let the mother in law deal with Sprint especially if she uses her phone for business. Next thing ya know you get blamed if she misses a call or gets a late text.
Try a different launcher like apex or nova first. Lots of ppl also like go launcher, many themes
I have Nova launcher and I like it. Or go to settings, apps, select all, go to twlauncher and clear defaults then hit the home key to switch to twlauncher and you can make it your default for a straight Android look.

Go gingerbread and run stock or a stock ROM with tweaks. I'd say go with either blazers 4.1 calks 3.0 or unofficial ICS gingerbread ROM. ICS is just poo.

Why GB over ICS? I'm new to Android and have only experienced ICS, so I am unaware of the differences in ease-of-use/system UI.

HA! She's already missing calls, butt-dialing china, mass deleting contacts, opening every installed app on her phone, etc. That's why I started his thread!

I got my tech retarded dad an evo 3d and put an AOSP ICS rom on it for him.It seems to be working well enough. As such I cannot recommend an AOSP rom enough for simplicity and ease of use. Google is like pretty good at what they do and IMHO AOSP is the cleanest, simplest to use option available. Keep the stock launcher and just put phone, browser, text and email in it...

No ROM is going to fix stupidity. No offense to your in laws.
That being said blu Kuban is a good choice for customizing to her specific needs. I usually refer to it as the "build your own ROM" ROM. However she may be a little daunted by the frequent updates and large amount of options. If you do choose that ROM I would highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the faq in my sig so you can send to any issues she may have with it. Also any ROM by team VeNuM, especially m'ICS or blue BOA would be a good choice as far as stability is concerned.

Hehe, none taken. She's not stupid, just "technologically challenged."
I can't remember where I saw the screen shot, perhaps an article on Android Authority, but I seem to recall seeing an initial setup screen shot from a GNex w/JB - shortly after Google launch party. That screen shot allowed two options, basically beginner or advanced mode. I believe I came away with the impression that was geared towards the UI too, not the setup method.
Now, I know JB ROMs are in alpha stage for the e4gt. Do you think I should wait for, what looks to be, an official JB release for the SGSII from Samsung?
Thoughts? Has anyone else seen, read, heard, or experienced this "beginner mode" on JB - or were the paint fumes at my office gettin' to me more than I thought they were that day?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
JB roms are not quite ready yet. There was some type of easy setup thing though. Honestly your best bet would probably be a simple launcher and lockscreen.
Keep it stock. Use a different launcher and remove all but one screen. Put the things she uses most on it as shortcuts, then lock it so she can't accidentally mess it up. Did that for my wife and it really helped!

no rom will fix this try Mihome miui launcher its as simple as it can get good luck
Ive been using the TeAm VeNuM cRaCk StOck[FH23] for the past couple of days and you cant get much more simple than that. Only change I made was switch to the Apex Launcher. The battery life is incredible!!!!

I find GB more stable then most ICS ROMs. Great battery life awesome signal and great GPS locks. Most GB ROMs are complete and done with updates due to ICS coming out. Currently ICS is still being updated and has many flaws. A lot of the devs like ruj and mijjz got their stuff in order but they update a lot and may irritate your mother in law.

You can just keep stock and go dead simple with i launcher. It will obviously have no bugs (its stock). its just an iphone launcher
So I'm currently running the newest Jedi rom. But for Christmas my sister and I bought my father the Xperia TL and through setting it up and getting it ready to give it to him on Christmas Day I realized how seriously awesome and fluid the ui is. The lock screen is super smooth and notifications come on it looking clean, the messaging app is great and the overall look and feel makes me feel like, when looking at my note's tw ui and even using nova launcher, like I'm using a kid's toy and the real deal is over on the xperia.
So tl;dr does anyone know of a way to get the xperia interface or look running on a note 2?
I realize one option would need a whole rom and a lot of work to get it working with S Pen functionality and etc, but are there any options that I haven't thought of? I'm nothing more than a guy who learned to flash roms so me taking on a project like that is little more than impossible. Just wondering if anyone else feels the same way or has accomplished what I'm setting up for.

Hey guys. New to the note 2 forums. I've been using a nexus for the last 4 years and one thing I really dislike about the note is the way touch wiz looks. However I would rather not go to cm10 and lose out on the s pen functionality.
Is there a middle ground somewhere?

I found a great combination of Frosty JB and Foreverloco's AOSP theme work great. It truly gets rid of all the things annoying about the TW Theme. Links are below.

Thanks! I don't seem to see that rom listed under the list. Is there a specific version of the theme I should download?

Not trying to be that guy... But what do you use it for? I can swype a note faster and more readable with my finger. With Carbon I get AOSP 4.2.2, Voodoo sound, 2GHZ over clock. I can still use the stupid pen just not the Spen app.

The first link is for the rom, the second link is for the theme to be flashed on top of the rom. Make sure you follow the directions to a T.
I love airview, had an Ascend with a trackball and used it religiously viewing webpages, making selections (if you think our phone is to big for one handed use, try comjng from a scroll ball phone where my hand was usually always near the bottom of the screen), and correcting text, etc.
Im currently in the process of retraining myself just to use screen taps for full functionality, but airview is nice

You can also flash jelly beans 9 that's found ink the Verizon section then flash the T Mobile modem back after. Works like a charm!

I don't use the pen very much, but I found the touchwiz camera app so much better than stock android that I had to stick with tw.
Hey guys, I am not from around here. But I need your help. My friend has a Galaxy Note 2 with Android Revolution HD 11.2. I am the one who does all the mods for him. He is happy with it, but after seeing PA Halo he really wants it. But a note 2 without touchwiz s pen features is no good. So what I need help with is, is there any touchwiz based ROM that has Halo already implemented or planning to be implemented soon. Also, can it or will it ever be implemented? The threads are too confusing for me as I am not used to bring in the Galaxy Note 2 thread. Please help me.
Thanks in advance.

If he really needs the SPen features, but really wants to use PA, then you can install GMD SPen control and Papyrus. GMD allows you to set up triggers for pen out/in actions as well as SPen gestures and floating quicklaunch bars for common SPen apps and actions. Papyrus is, IMO, the best SPen app on the market. Both apps will cost a couple dollars, but well worth it for gaining back 90% of the SPen functionality on an AOSP ROM.
Also, with PA, you can add permanent apps to HALO that you find convenient for opening in a floating window.
The only feature I haven't found a suitable replacement for is the cut/copy feature of the SPen's side button.
Unrelated sidebar, speaking of cut/copy, Cut Copy is a great band. You should check them out.

Thank you jallenhayslett, I'll look into that. But, I am from India and debit card support here is a hit an miss in Google play store. Most of can't pay in the play store and credit cards are rather rare. I also refuse to download cracked stuff. No piracy policy.
Do any of the touchwiz based ROM developers plan to add Halo? I am willing to wait a few weeks.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I doubt its going to happen. Halo is a PA development, AOSP, and beta at that. The closest thing I've seen that exists for TouchWiz is an app/service called Floating Notifications. It's in the Play Store, but I'm quite certain its a paid app.
---------- Post added at 06:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:12 PM ----------
You could also consider something I saw on XDA's front page a couple weeks ago. Its called Bubble Launcher. I haven't messed with it, but it looks capable and promising.
Floating Notification is pretty similar to PA Halo
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I agree that Halo is a PA feature. But from what I got to know off of the nexus 4 thread, its now open source and all are allowed to implement it. That's why I asked if any developers are planning on it
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
It might be possible, but based on my limited knowledge of the systems, implementing it into Samsungs system would be more trouble than most devs are willing to tackle. That doesn't mean its impossible, though. Stock Sammy ROMs are now implementing floating windows and such. So, given enough time, and a curious enough dev, it could happen.
Hopefully that curious developer doesn't have to be me. I already have enough coding work at college as it is.

I been playing around with Galaxy S4's dual window feature and to me its one of those must-have features for any device.
Closest you can get to that is Qslide. Installing the systemui.apk from the G Pro let's you use more apps with Qslide.
