I was thinking is it Possible to run a Chrome OS on Rhodium,
What are the compatibility issues might Come Across,
I heard that there will be Chrome based smartphone being developed by HTC.
And Chrome will be more suitable for Hand held devices and Netbooks.
Is there any Hope for a Concept of "Chrodium"
maybe. but it doesnt run well as developed as it is anyways. its only a web browser os. i think there would be more driver issues than anything. though maybe you just want it for the name.
I don't know about a Chrome OS port to the Rhodium. The thing about the Android project is that it also is porting the full Linux kernel, so in theory any Linux based operating system should work. However, Chrome OS isn't that practical to begin with. As someone once said:
It's like a real OS but without all those pesky FEATURES and PROGRAMS that we hate so much! I mean, why would you need a computer that runs your browser, IM program, syncs up your iPod, downloads torrents and burns DVDs when you could have a computer that JUST BROWSES!

That quote sums it up for me, so it seems kind of pointless IMO. The Rhodium Android project covers the phone OS niche, while the Rhobuntu project covers the desktop Linux niche. I don't really see why we need another Linux OS port when those two areas are already covered. Just my 2 cents.

The idea itself is cool but as Dave said, we already have the other ports and Chrome OS isnt even at a retail release so im thinking we should put that idea back in the hat for a while...
Good to Know . . thanks Davs

One more thing I still Like the Name "Chrodium"b

Uhm what? This really isn't the right thread or sub-section to post in. If you want WinMo information, please go to that section.
Not trying to be a jerk, this is a sincere question. I really like my Tilt2 and don't want to get a newer phone with Droid on it. My phone is really, imo, built solid and has almost never failed to perform. I know it's a little heavy, but that doesn't bother me. I really would love to have a fully functional Droid that I could use. Mainly because I really don't like Apple and won't get an Iphone, even though I think the I-4 is a cool phone. Is there anything I can do as a forum member to help get this project further along? I was wondering if we could all maybe tackle 1 thing each and help out. Might not be anything I can do, but I'm willing to help if I can.

I don't think anyone can be sure that Android will ever be finished. The developers have done much for this device, but with the HD2 finally able to boot the Linux kernel, I think most of the support we had will move towards getting Android on better, newer, and more capable devices like the HD2. In addition, most of the remaining problems with getting Android completely working are the ones that were very difficult to begin with. Things like initializing hardware correctly, and figuring out how to get the various parts of the device to talk to each other. I'm honestly kind of doubtful that we will see more development with Android on the Pro2, since AFAIK only one person is working on it (though I hope I'm wrong).
it seemed at first that android for the touch pro would never work but now the only thing that doesnt work is the camera. maybe the touch pro 2 will get to that level some day. who knows.
So from what I gathered, the Tilt 2 won't be having any further development to work with Android? I also still have my Fuze. Is that development continuing? If so, maybe I will keep my Fuze instead of selling it and use it to test with Android?
By the way, what is the real name for the Tilt 2? Is it Rhodium or ?
Thanks guys, this place really ROXS!
I await your replies!

I'm not sure what you mean by complete. New builds are released all the time, etc. If you mean all hardware functioning, here is the list from Reefer's thread:
NOT WORKING IN THIS BUILD:
BT
Sound (in call mic and earpiece work, no ringtones or music)
Camera
Opengles: using software rendering for the time being.
Battery Meter
For sound, look here: http://www.ppcgeeks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121743
One guy has made an NDISwrapper for Android...amazing.
For HW3D, look here: http://www.ppcgeeks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125379
Battery Meter is working very well. It's not accurate (seems like it's 10-15% off) but it shows low, which means you can get charged up in time with no problems. I also recall phhusson saying this WILL be 100% some day, it's just very tedious and time consuming, and everyone is more concerned with making things run better and on more hardware.
In other words, development is still very much active and some very smart people are working on these problems. I believe Mr. Steve Ballmer said it best here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zEQhhaJsU4
If you're patient, more of the pieces will come together soon enough and Android for our device will be more complete (relatively speaking). For the record, I'm very content with the state of things. All development from here is just icing on the cake
Mods, if I'm not supposed to link to outside forums, just delete them and/or let me know. That's just where the more technical info is.
i thought sound was fixed already today there was a new build for rhodium?.
i think sound just got added but not for music. I think they upgraded the sound in the earpiece and speaker works now.

This is also incorrect. TP2 development is moving along faster now than it has been in a while. Not everyone wants a HD2 just beacuse it can boot android. Sure it has a fancy screen but no hardware keyboard, so i'm not even considering it as an option for a new device. Also, for future reference there are quite a few more than just one person working on this...
Also, define finished? The OS itself is in constant development. Will Android itself ever be finished? I hope not.

ok, point taken. When will Android ever be fully functional on the Tilt 2 phone?
Now! Then! No, Then! When it's done. This isn't a native OS, don't go in expecting perfection. Go in expecting nothing and be amazed with every update. The alternative is to port it yourself. Good luck with that.

My initial question was pretty point blank. Don't expect perfection, just would like full functionality on my phone because I like the AnDroid OS. The question was never meant to be a gripe, not sure why it struck a chord with you. I don't know how to port it, so luck is not needed. Thanks anyway

Are you serious?!?! What you are asking is very disrespectful because You obviously haven't even read the FAQ/WIKI because it states:
5) When will the next release be out? I can't wait to get more features on my phone!
The next release will be out when the developers are able to get it ready. They are contributing their time for free and can't work on it full time. If you want to help speed development, make a donation to one of the main developers to help encourage them, don't pester them by asking a million times when the next release will be out when they won't know until it is ready.
hope this helps clear things up.

You might as well wait a few months, there will be a bigger, better, brighter android (as we have seen the last few months) - if you can't wait, the HD2 is very nice.

you didn't have a clue mmh ? what where you thinking ? that those people are well paid for doing it, and because of that your in position to come here and whine ?
and it's nothing about wearing hearts on sleeves, since it's only repeating the obvious like breaking in open doors.
however, I have some question :
Is it possible to have a feedback from some developer if it is a question of money to make things go further. if yes, what would it be approximately.
because, it is nice to encourage people to donate, but I didn't read anywhere from some person actually working on the project that it is indeed a question of money.
maybe this would be the first thing to find out ? from the developers side, is there anything that "non-aware" people can make to get things go further ?

I know Android is better (I am running the CM7 nightly), but I thought it might be nice if we could get some sort of actual ROM for the D. Inc. that was WP7.
Not a dev, but I don't think that is possible. You can get home replacements that replicate it, but you're pretty much stuck with android on your incredible. There was a project to port webOS over to the desire, but that had pretty much hit a dead end the last time that I checked.
I would love to see how wp7 works on our device too. Just read hd2 has dual boot android and wp7 roms running. Port maybe? If nothing, to satisfy curiosities and to have another rom to show off?
P. S. My sig is indicative of how I look at roms...
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
I know a poster from another forum who has a HD2 running android. Would be nice if we could run wp7.
I know. I'm kind of a ROM whore too, but I tend to end up with CM7 nightlies simply because it's the fastest unskinned gingerbread build out there for the Inc.

The reason that they have Android running on Windows devices is because they know that Android kicks ass. They all want to be like us. I'm going to get an iPhone...when they get Android running on it. LOL

Even though what you are asking my require "development", it is in fact, not development in itself and therefore it belongs in "q and a". I mean think about it, you even put [q] in your thread title.
It is much easier to get android running on a non-Android native phone because Android's code is open sourced whereas WP7 or webOS is not. Thus making it much more difficult if not impossible to port to our devices.
you know what i find funny?? we all say that our phone and XX OS is so much better than all others (Ios, Android, WP7...) but then we go and try to make our Android look like WP7 with home replacements, or ROMs like MIUI for the IPhone crowd...
I had Anroid eclair running on my HTC Touch Pro so I to am guilty of it, I just think it is funny.

#1 This is in the wrong section, and don't try to play dumb about it, you have a Q in your thread title, stating its a question.
To the above quote, they already have android running on the iPhone - http://linuxoniphone.blogspot.com/2010/04/ive-been-working-on-this-quietly-in.html
i was so harsh because the OP didnt even try a search to read the other 20 threads about putting WP7 on our device
I do believe putting windows on a non windows phone is a violation on some law.. yadda yadda
android is open source thats why its so widley available
The HD2 was MEANT for WP7 but Microsoft didnt release in time and The HD2 is windows native so thats why they could port it
Seems like W7 is a few steps behind Android anyways, so....wouldn't touch it, unless it was just from curiosity.
Since the HD2 carries pretty much the same specs as our phone in terms of processor and it can run Android as well as WP7 then what I am trying to ask is what's the limitation on our phone? Besides our radio being CDMA instead of GSM.
Wait til verizon has the htc trophy (wp7. Soon.) Party with colored blocks. Return for android again.Buy a zune. Be thankful.

Been a long time android user. Love the customization of the OS, but its always fun to try something new! I know there have been a lot of people asking this on other device threads. Honestly, the E4GT could run WP7 like a champ. Plus, it would be great to have the option and be free to run what you want. Thats what XDA is for isn't it? Anyone give this a shot yet?

Back to the topic. Is there any way to install Windows Phone 7 onto the Epic Touch? I know for a fact that the E4GT can easily run it with the specs it has. Why not try and pull WP7 off of another Samsung WP7 device. Maybe that could be a starting point? I'm not a developer, but theres gotta be more people out there who want this to happen or are at least interested.

Like someone already said.. this would be considered illegal since WP7 is not opensource like Android.. It would also be extremely difficult (don't want to say impossible), considering the source is not available and the drivers most likely being incompatible.
This is the closest you'll get to it:
https://market.android.com/details?id=info.tikuwarez.launcher3&hl=en
Ah. Makes sense. It is like Microsoft to screw up something with great potential by locking it down. Oh well... I'll just ask this since theres already a few people in here to seem to know their stuff. What rom would you recommend for the E4GT?

Now that you can go back to full stock, give them all a try. Everything is done exactly the same as on the Epic so it should be easy for you. Which is best is impossible to say. As you probably know from the Epic, some ROMs just work better on one phone than they may on another even though they are the same. That's part of the mystery of these Sammy phones

you mean wont be jailed if we install it on our android phones ???
Maybe, it is possible?
Guess it can be done. Not at this moment though. Few years ago when Steve Jobs introduced Intel processors in macs, a new unofficial project was started known as Hackintosh. What it does is it simply asks the user to make a prototype of a certain version of a Mac and then installs Mac OS X using some custom bootloaders. I have done it in my machine.
Well, if we can find a phone exactly same as that of any WP phone, then it MAYBE possible, 'cause that'll (maybe ) discard the need for new drivers. Plus, its the world of piracy   unless, you want to go sell your device or patent it, it should be perfectly alright to pirate WP (On your own risk though, IT'S NOT RECOMMENDED )

I should have a disclaimer that I am not a full developer really and anything I say can and should be corrected by a real dev but I tend to know a good deal more than the average end user so therefore I try and help where I can
That said, from what I've seen from other devs getting the ROM on the device isn't that hard once you know how and assuming it's not some tricky ROM meant for a specific device (that said, MIUI is the kind of ROM that to me seems like it should be easy to get on a wide number of devices). So, if you want MIUI, it's probably best to ask for someone to port it and if it isn't too hard (I don't think it is) it's just a matter of the dev being nice enough
Teaching you to compile the ROM on your own though, may actually take a lot more time and effort. If you want to learn to make ROMs, which actually is rather easy compared to other parts of developing if you're not making your own from scratch, you could learn to do that, but it's probably better to learn the basics and go to a thread for it.
If you just want MIUI for your KF2, it's probably easiest to ask a dev to do it for you.
As always, any dev feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Also what device does para run on? Easiest way to port a ROM is make sure its one that already works on a similar device ( porting miui for kindle fire to the kindle fire 2) also the ROM your trying to port should have the same screen density. The three links up top seem to be excellent sources of information

Once I get some help with the update script and have someone take a look at the files to see if they can see any major issues I'll upload it and send you a link. However basic disclaimer around here applies.... If the world ends etc I take no responsibility. Ie don't sue me lol. But that being said can't wait to finish this.

Thanks
So far I'm stuck until I can either a figure out update scripts myself or I get some help. Everything seems OK but till I can try to boot this myself I can't really tell. Also once the HD codec issue is fixed I'll be merging that, I'll also be taking suggestions for fixes.

Update script should be fairly easy just compare the base and port I guess?
I got Ubuntu set-up and I'm going to begin porting paranoid. Also don't worry I have a few test devices

Oh I forgot about HD....hmmm. I am not sure how difficult patching things from other ROMs in is, but it seems like the next hascode release should fix most if not everything majorly wrong and I think that would be a better base point for building ROMs. It could be easy though and the thing is pretty damn stable. I've only ever had one issue beyond HD and re-flashing fix it so, possibly this is a good build to work off of
Yeah, it seems no one is really on right now but later they may be able to help, especially in IRC

One would assume but with semi limited knowledge on them I come to two assumptions, first off is the simple fact that I know the partition tables are different. So if the script tries to send something somewhere it doesn't belong it could be bad, second I see some differences in the scripts that I don't understand and there for do not want to mess with them until I do or someone who does will explain.
My goal is to not brick any testers kfires just seems bad for business

After looking more in depth at the update script I saw one major difference...
Which is to do with the dev/block
So I went with the previous ROMs update script and I'm making the zip for initial testing now.
Fingers crossed
