Rooting Probelm - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
i recently rooted my phine and it was easy, i gave my phone in for repair and they flashed the stock rom on it, just totest it even tohugh it was already on stock.
Anyways now i cant seem to root my phone. I have tried the Toolkit method multiple times and the method on note2root.com.
I can see the SuperSU is installed, apps ask for permission grant but then say device is not rooted.
I am out of idea, Help please

Perform a factory reset, and then follow this link-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1930418
Hope it helps
Oh, and just so you have to give it for repairs again, do use triangle away first. Instructions are in the link.

Rooting Problems

I had my phone rooted and decided to unroot to get the OTA update which I did, but I tried rooting the phone again and I can't no longer root the phone.
Has any one experience this before?
Can I use unrevoked?
i dont know about unrevoked. if you do the factory reset and reroot using toasts method, there is a stock rom you can flash that has the OTA update biult in that will allow you to keep the root. all of the info is on the first page where toast describes the rooting process. hope this helps.
I guess there is no way to revoked so I can root my phone again. I like to learn if this is possible I guess, I will miss the tether app that I enjoy so much.
Please any one
I am still trying to root my evo after installing the OTA and have not been able to root it again.
Can anyone help if possible?
I will appreciate any suggestions at this point
Thanks in advance
how to unroot
i tried rooting my phone last night and it messed up, i think.. i know the root didnt work. how can i get my phone back to stock? I am new with androids and not sure what im really doin
You can use the unrevoked method if you are just mainly using it for the tether app.
http://unrevoked.com/m/
then click the image to install it.
un root
i just would like to get my phone back to stock, i did the unrevoked root, then tried to do a ROM, and the rom part did take all the way. I still have the ROM Manager app still on my phone.. should i delete that
Just use this and it will bring u back to stock - remember google search is your friend

[Q] Optimus s unrooted

I have the Optimus S, a few days ago there was an update to the phone that seemed to overwrite many files, as well as made changes.
It also unrooted the phone in the progress.
So when I went to re-root the phone using Z4root it hangs or fails.
Tried installing and re-installing and still fails.
When booting app Z4root it says temp root, perm root and unroot options.
Also mentions that device already has SU binary.
Any ideas on a fix for this.
Thanks for any help.
Just something that I noticed.
Super user is still installed on phone, but thinking maybe an uninstall of that and reroot may work.
Not really sure.
Also I am not sure how to uninstall it.
Go under apps and remove from there. Should let you. Also most updates I've had on my multiple android phones took root off or in the case of my current Galaxy S Vibrant it soft bricked my phone. Always good to take off root before updating as a precaution but that's up to you. Try removing then reapplying one click root and if that doesn't work you can maybe find a one click root from PC or get the update.zip file for root and install manually on phone like I did for galaxy. Can Google it. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

Its listed under apps but uninstall is unavailable, only thing that is available is clear data.
I uninstalled Z4root from phone and reinstalled VIA SD card , because its off the android market. and no luck, gives me a option to temp root, perm root, and unroot. Every time it looks for the exploit it lags out .
Did this before posting here,
havent tried trying a different root option, but my guess is if they patched the exploit it just simply will not work atm.
Yeah I read last galaxy s vibrant T-Mobile 2.2 update gave ppl probs with the z4 app as well. Ill try looking up alternative method for optimus s and if I find something before sleep I will post it.

I know that the Galaxy S and the Optimus seem to end up with same problems a lot, from what I have searched for , and seen with rooting and modifying.
So if you come across anything for the Galaxy it will probably work with the Optimus.
I will keep searching as well, and post if I find anything.
Search these boards for superoneclick says it works on basically all froyo phones. Need windows pc with. Net framework installed. Instructions were all in the thread tho. Xda forum app wouldn't let me post link to thread or I dunno how in app. Try that and let me know.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Tried superoneclick and it failed, everything looked good on install but when going back to phone , and trying Titanium backup. it says could not get root privileges.
Did Rageagainstthecage exploit.
One thing I notice is superuser cannot uninstall, thought maybe redoing that may do the trick. Uninstall is greyed out on app listing
Was gonna say look up terminal adb commands but you need su. Id just odin flash it stock or rom it personally but that's your call.
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA App
Seems as though the problem is the last update actually "fixed" so it unroots the Optimus, no way to re-root atm.
Waiting now, I am sure someone will find a way to re-root.
VC has to be downgraded to V8 then upgraded to V9 then upgraded to the VC using LG's software update (NOT the OTA variant). There are details here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...-guide-rooting-software-version-ls670zvc.html
Just something that I noticed.
hey i just figured it out that when we use apps like z4root to root mobiles n then something happens in middle or afterwards(like updates) when phone is rooted
It kills n overwrite those rooted files ... now those files are left in memory n u can not get rid of it until u format ur cell phone

[ROOT] TowelRoot - 4.3 & 4.4.2

Hey everyone! Most of you have probably already heard about this, but for those who have not, I thought I would post up the information.
XDA Recognized Developer @geohot has developed a new root method that so far is working for many, many devices....Including ours!!! And believe me, it just does not get any easier than this!
Check out geohot's original thread here on XDA: I'm throwing a party and you should come **GS5 ROOT THREAD**
Don't forget to at least click his Thanks button, and consider donating to him if you can. There was a bounty started for rooting the Verizon and AT&T S5's, and they finally got their wish! And geohot gets to claim a nearly $19,000 bounty!!! Amazing stuff! For those who may not be familiar with his previous work, he was the first to jailbreak the iPhone/iPod, and if I am not mistaken he did the same with the PS3!
So anyway, you are here to root your device, no? I guess we should get on with it then!
This is confirmed to work on 4.3, NC2 firmware for the T999, as well as 4.3 and 4.4.2 KK firmware for the I747! It should work for the T999V firmware released this morning, and for the upcoming KK updates to the T999/T999L/T999N!
HOW TO ROOT WITH TOWELROOT
Developed By: geohot
Go to http://towelroot.com
Click on the red Lambda symbol to download the towelroot.apk
Install towelroot.apk on your device
Open the app
"make it ra1n"
You are now rooted! But need to follow a couple more steps.
Install Chainfire's SuperSU from the Play Store
Open SuperSu and let it update the su binary
When it asks if you would like to disable Knox, SAY YES!
Note: I tested this on stock unrooted 4.3 firmware. Build NC2. When I told SuperSu to disable Knox it just hung with the spinner going. I just had to close SuperSu, reopen and when prompted again, said yes and it worked just fine.
There you have it! The easiest root method we have ever had for our S3's! Enjoy!
Recently many have reported problems with root after installing SuperSU. Mostly they are issues with updating the binary breaking root. Chainfire knows about this and is working on it, but until he fixes it do not install via the Play Store.
Instead, download and install (as a normal app) SuperSU 2.00 from here.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712471997
This should get you guys by until he finds a fix. Sorry for the trouble some of you have had.
CONFIRMED .. this worked on My Videotron SGH-T999V with latest stock 4.4.2 firmware (NF1) ... altho with the following notes ...
at first I tried to use the same procedure I used to root 4.3 (twrp 2.7.1.0 recovery, de-knox script, and superSu 1.65) ... but su binary would either fail to update or not survive boot
used latest towel root apk (version 2), but su binary failed to update until after a reboot
now I'm in the process of using root and Titanium to debloat KitKat .. thanks samsung, lol
so far, I don't really notice much difference between kitkat and 4.3 which is kinda odd for a "major" release .. it's actually a letdown
mucho thanks for bringing this to our forum, Doc ... merci bien
thank you for this method, unfortunately i only found out about this now and rooted with cf-auto-root last night. Are there are advantages using towelroot instead of cf-auto-root besides that you dont need odin?
In the end, root is root. So no real advantages once you've already done so. This just makes the process extra quick and super easy!
I consider it to be the safest method at this point as well. If for no other reason than it limits the potential for human errors. But it also requires no flashing, which which always carries some risk of its own.
If anyone who has never tripped the warranty bit tries this method, please confirm it does not trip it.
Its been reported not to already on other devices, and I see no reason it would, but its better to have confirmation on each device nonetheless.
And fyi, after flashing stock then running Towelroot, the device status remained "Official" and I could still check for updates until I rebooted. After rebooting it re-runs its check and sets the status to "Custom".
can verify that it works
WAY TO GO
Can confirm this works on At&t stock 4.3:good:
This is a wonderful, wonderful thing & may actually get me off my lazy a$$ & get me to finally root...
Many props to @geohot!
Lol! Kinda hard to make excuses to not root now, huh?
Thanks worked great on my sgh-t999v running stock 4.4.2, it got hung up on disabling knox but after a reset and opening supersu again the message popped up and disabled knox. This is aMAZing
So I tried Towelroot yesterday with both mine and my wifes S3, I can confirm that it works and didn't have any problems. I've included screenshots from Download Mode and Device Status...All Official!....And most important....DeBloated!!!!
Thanks for the advise Doc:victory:
After completing this, is it as easy as getting goo manager or rom manager from playstore, and installing a custom recovery?
Been out of the loop for a while now...lol

From whats around it seems that flashing a custom recovery will lead to a increased warranty counter...But if you don't care...flash away.
That was the easiest root ever. Just followed your instructions and only had an "issue" with SuperSU. I just rebooted and all is working fine. Thanks.

I can confirm that the warranty bit does not get tripped with this rooting method. The status is custom now however but warranty but remains at 0.

If I remember correctly, the AT&T S5's bootloader was locked and you guys couldn't gain root, right? Be careful on your next updates because as I understand it, Towelroot makes use of a kernel exploit which I believe has been patched in all kernels dated after June 6. This means Towelroot most likely will not work on future updates for you guys.
I could be wrong, and hope I am, but just use caution when you update again.
I have a wind mobile S3. It was running 4.3 and rooted. I upgraded to 4.4.2 via odin and none of the methods including this one are working for me.

I am on Wind, upated to the latest 4.4.2 via Odin, went to the website, downloaded the app, ran it, install SuperSU, rebooted and was rooted. I had to do the "knox disable" thing twice, but that's it. I rooted fine.

[Q] Root didnt work, want to unroot and lose custom status

Tried to root my Galaxy Note 2 following this site galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-2-easiest-method. Everything went fine. But when the phone rebooted, I was immediately greeted with a security warning. "Unauthorized access to a secured area has been blocked" Also informed that SuperSU is missing its binary, and cannot be installed by SuperSU. So, I rooted it, but I don't have root access. Everything I've found to try and fix this requires root access, that I don't have. I've given up on trying to root this phone, but I can't unroot it without root access. I would like to unroot it so I can try to update the software. How can I fix my SuperSU binary issue? Please, explain this to me like I'm a retarded noob, since I am in fact a retarded noob

Download Odin. Download the factory image from sammobile.com. Odin the stock image. Problem solved
Or if you still want root, download the Mr robinson T-Mobile prerooted Odin image and flash that.
Fyi i accidently hit the thanks button. I guess you got a free one on me

[Q] Help Please? Rom but no root? Newly purchased on swappa

Newly purchased at&t note II from swappa. All is well, phone in great shape... But seller believes the device to be rooted, but I can't seem to verify that. In settings it states running ezKat rom.... But superuser says no binary. But an app from playstore requested superuser access? Im confused. Downloaded terminal emulator shows $, not #.
Is it possible to have custom rom but not be rooted? Thanks!
Flash supersu via recovery and you should be good...
http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/
Once booted....superuser may request a binary update...
If it does...just install it under the "normal" option...
Happy flashing....g
Thanks.... But...
Unfortunately, it didn't work. I flashed. Tried root checker. No root. Reflashed. Nope. The original owner sent me the file he flashed, that didn't work either. Im guessing at this point I should start from scratch? Full factory reset? . Ive never reset a phone that wasnt stock before? . The phone has twrp installed? Showing ezKat in the about phone section? At a loss... Dont want to brick it, I don't need a paperweight. Just want root
Any advice for me?
And THANK YOU!! I. Can't seem to find the thanks function here...
Yeh...
I'd probably go back and start fresh with an Odin back to stock 4.1.1...
Then root again...g
