I flashed Jedi X 6.1.2, followed all instruction, and somehow my rotational sensor was rendered useless, everything else worked, sweet rom btw, I actually turn rotation off normally, but it was the pea under the matress i guess, tried CleanROM, same, so Im flashing back to stock, see what that does
Anybody else with this issue?
Any other crafty thoughts?
did a forum search and some people having trouble with proximity sensors,
will go attempt to answer my own question now
Indeed flashing Stock Root I317MVLALJ2 (rogers) did the trick, rotation and everything is working fine
Im wondering if the particular Canadian-ness of my phone makes it not like the att or international based roms?
further research is required
For me had to do a couple reboots, clearing cache, then permission. But what did was removed the battery!
I don't know if this helps

I will have to give it another try, I'll remember the battery trick

I have a galaxy s3 with rooted stock t-mobile rom. I wasn't paying attention until today and found out that the auto rotate function is making my screen rotate in the wrong direction. Let say if I turn the phone clockwise, the screen will rotate counter clockwise, making it upside down. Does anyone have any idea what might went wrong?
One side note, it was working normally when I first got the phone before rooting but I don't think rooting the phone will create the problem.

Same exact problem as me. I really need to find a fix to this as it's quite annoying.

Strange which carrier s3 are you on? I noticed some user that are on a different carrier s3 flashing T-Mobile Rom can cause auto rotate to be wacky
hit thanks if I helped
I'm actually on AT&T. I replied to this thread so I wouldn't have to make another one. I am rooted with the latest CWM recovery, but have this issue. I tried going back to stock and factory reset. I need a solution badly.

Same thing happened to mine. Posted a thread about it like 4 days ago and still don't know what the problem is.
I backed up my data in TB, factory reset, cleared both caches, intalled stock LG1 AT&T rom with root injected through ODIN. Problem solved!

Happened to me when flashing a sprint Rom awhile back, flashing a kernel from our device fixed it. So..try flashing a kernel. Might help, that or what the above user did.. for your version of the phone, obviously...

Back form the dead. has anyone figured this out?
I rooted my Sprint GS3, and bam...upside down landscape view. Fkn great.
Wifi tether doesnt work either...but thats the least of my concerns right now.
Did you read the thread? Some fixed it by flashing a kernel for their device. If that doesn't fix it flash back to odin for your specific device.

I did, it as pretty vague on the kernel info. I already flashed and reset to stock, however the problem persists. Pretty dang bummed out.

Did you wipe? I'm almost positive if you just wipe system and then install a custom kernel specific to your device you'll get your phone back to normal.

Sorry for the rookie question, but does wipe mean factory reset from the settings menus?
EDIT: Think I need a new thread for help, i have a myriad of problems now. I cant boot in recovery mode, phone just turns on as normal plus, can not turn wifi on. Holy Moses.

[SOLVED] I flashed synergy ROM r443 and was havinf same issue but found a fix
I used the previous kernel fix for the synergy ROM and worked like a charm for the screen rotating upside down it may work for others as well. you can refer to the Post I made with the mediafire link. I am new so I can put the links in directly yet.

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster!! I love this site, you guys have helped me out with so many problems, except one I cant seem to find an answer for :/
I have a sgh-t989 or tmobile galaxy s2
I had rooted firmware on there. I then flashed ics on it. and thats when my problems hapened. My gyroscope or something does not work correctly anymore. If i turn my phone sideways it takes a minute for it auto rotate. If i turn it upright itll rotate after literraly 2 or 3 minutes. and most of the time if i have it upright,it will rotate to the side :/ i have flashed back and forth hoping it would solve the problem. have done the calibration. everything. im back on stock 2.3.6 now and still having problems.
Can anyone please help me I need help
Maybe it's a hardware defect? A faulty accelerometer?
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you, Man and Knife"
I believe you will get your question answered quicker if you ask it in a forum corresponding to your device.

I too am having the same issue since flashing to Jelly Bean. Auto rotate seems to have a mind of its own and rotates when I do not want it to or worse it is 90 degrees out so when I have the device in landscape the screen rotates to portrait
Any clues would be a great help...
Did u flash skyrocket rom?
I'm gonna go out and say unless you flashed something you shouldn't have then it sounds like a faulty accelerometer..

I remember having the same issue. I went to some AOSP rom, had this issue, and it was really annoying me, so I thought it was a ROM issue. I went back to ICS and still had the problem. I think I fixed it by wiping everything I could on my phone (Factory, cache, dalvik, internal, external) and then restored to ICS with ODIN, then calibrated it, and it worked.
My t999 lost autorotation after flashing custom roms, but I don't remember if I had it originally on tw. I've tried flashing latest Liquid Smooth, CM nightlies, PACman, Paranoid with full wipes between and nothing has worked. I even read through the flashing guide (even though I'm not new to android or rooting/flashing) and tried the triple wipe/double boot and that didn't help.
So I have been googling and searching xda and could only find one thread on the issue (I'd link but I'm new) but I tried everything listed and it didn't help.
Is anyone having the same problem or know how to fix it?
Go back to full stock and check if it broken or not. Otherwise you can replace by tmobile or samsung since its manufactures fault.
Odin latest firmware. Check stickies on development section.

Can Odin run on a mac? I've used it on my pc but its out for repair. I'm currently downloading a tw based rom but if that doesn't work I'll return to true stock.

Idk about mac. There is thread for it in general section. I will prefer official firmware over any tw based roms to check phone function.

Lol
I dont think he is so stupid.
Well thinking back to when I got this phone, it's a refurb replacement for one that i broke the screen, I remembered that i tried the flip to mute music and it never worked. I believe that its a defective device and will contact T-Mobile but I will continue working with it.
I tried FrostyJB and no rotation.
Haha obviously I have checked Auto-rotation and I tried unchecking then pulling the battery and then booting and rechecking. I've tried unchecking, rebooting into recovery (through power menu and manually), wiping cache then booting and checking it. And also the thread I read at androd forums said to boot into download mode then pull the battery but that did nothing, others there said that they dropped their phones and that fixed it but I have never dropped my current phone ( I recieved it on sunday) so thought that that was not going to work so attempted it anyway. I slammed it on my couch and dropped it from a few inches onto my coffee table with no results.
I will need to return it to full stock anyway if I want to bring it in so I will do that through Odin and triangle-away, and if I still have no rotation I will report back and look into getting a replacement.
Some phones have their sensors messed up, I had a Mytouch 4G that had issues when calling. Would get a call the proximity sensor would turn off screen when I'm talking but when the call was over screen would not turn on. I had to reboot most of the time unfortunately it's not really fixable something so fragile,so eventually i just change the hex values so the screen wouldn't turn off during a call problem solved.

there is a sensor test on most of the stock roms
in the stock dialer:
Quick Test Menu
*#7353#
select the Accelerometer test and tilt the phone whatever way you want.
If the arrows don't change, then the sensor isn't working. If the Arrows do change, then all good, problem in rom setup.......
Good Luck
Aloha
Defective phone, T-Mobile is replacing for free.
Hey guys im not sure if its been covered anywhere else but im having an issue with the back button working at all on the newest release of the jedi mind trick rom, it sometimes responds and othertimes goes into vibrating spasms and i have to reboot to get it to stop. I have wiped, factory reset, reflashed the rom with no avail, the rom works amazing otherwise. Please let me know if anyone knows how to fix this.
Thanks
do you mess with your kernel settings ?? it might be you have you gov. to low that when you try to use it it does not have enough juice to pick up the pace try picking on-demand and noop if available never really heard of that prob..
I hadn't thought of that, ill see if that helps and let you know, thank you for the suggestion

no problem sometimes when using a slower gov/sio can cause some lag that will make your keys unresponsive because its not waking up fast enough good luck glad to help
I am running this ROM with no issues what so ever, so if the above info does not fix your problem, I can at least tell you exactly how I flashed it anyway.
I used twrp 2.5. I clicked wipe...advance wipe...checked dalvik, data, system, and cache. Swipe to wipe then flashed ROM and reboot.
Good luck.
I'm beginning to think this is possibly a hardware issue, I have gone back and forth between slimbean and Jedi mind trick with a slew of different kernels with no avail, thanks for the suggestions guys

I've had this issue for quite a while now.. at first I figured it was just a bug as my screen would no longer rotate but I've flashed and tried several different roms (Probam jelly bean, KitKat, and now on Temasek V28 KitKat) and have tried a few different Kernels such as Devil 2.3.2 and currently using the stock Temasek kernel.
I've downloaded some sensor apps and they list my sensors, but whenever I go to test them such as the accelerom3534, gyroscope, compass.. they don't work at all.. They just say "waiting for data"
The Proximity sensor still appears to be working though.
Anyone had this issue? My phone I don't think is damaged.. I've dropped it on some small falls in the past but it's been in a nice cover as well.
Small update:
Went back to a rooted stock 4.1.2 AT&T ROM, stock kernel, stock modem.. no change. Must be the hardware being broken

None of the apps will rotate, or say a picture in "gallery". Home screen I know was never designed to rotate.
Also just tried the 1-Click ODIN restore to unrooted stock rom, no difference Screen still does not rotate in any apps.
Sounding like a hardware issue...
Sorry to hear that ...g

the only other option I can suggest is to check and make sure all of your settings that effect screen rotation of cleared. Make sure you don't have smart stay on and you have screen rotation enabled in your settings. You may also want to turn them on if they are off and reboot your phone. Then turn them back off and reboot your phone again. If that doesn't fix it I would assume its a hardware issue.
Did you drop your phone recently or get it wet or damp. That's the only thing I have heard can cause the hardware issue.
bringing this thread back to life sense I couldn't do the same for my sensors
Hello there! So I have had a similar experience with the Note 2. It is not hardware related as far as I can determine because I swapped out the prox sensor on mine and it did not help. I feel that it is kernel related. On my previous Note 2, I flashed some kernel, prox sensor stopped working. I flashed back to stock AT&T and it worked for one call before quitting again. That's when I tried a new sensor and camera unit. The phone was under warranty so I triangled away and traded it. With the current Note 2, I flashed Sky note 9.3 and then after a while the prox sensor stopped working, I just thought okay with whatever maybe it's the kernel I'm using. I wanted to upgrade to Sky note Air, so I did. Got all settled in and decided to see if their provided kernel fixed my call sensor, no cigar. So I went into *#0*# and realized that none of my sensors were working. Tried using Devil Kernel, stock, stock ROM, all sorts of configurations and I can't revive any of them. Feeling very defeated.
